Abstract: Breakdown of air tightness due to a variation in load is possible in detachable airtight joints as the temperature of their constituent elements varies. Methods of assuring the constancy of the load independently of any variation in temperature for the flange connection and a stuffing box seal with soft stuffing and calculations of the parameters necessary to achieve this objective are presented.
