Abstract

In the article, the authors discuss the regulations on the issue of who is responsible in securing informed consent and parental permission for conducting clinical trial in extremely premature infants in the U.S. as of April 2015. According to two local institutional review boards (IRB), attending physicians could secure parental permission. Protocol, however, disqualifies attending physician of record from securing approval. Also cited are the rule of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
