Abstract

Teaching a foreign language and learning a foreign language establish a dialogue between the source culture and the target culture or cultures. The concept of interculturalism is part of a broader field; culture is naturally embedded in it, as it derives from our civilization. Languages differ from other academic subjects in that they are both the object of and the medium for learning. This distinctive status can have certain consequences on language lessons. Interactions with others are grounded in a complex intercultural framework. In the context of language teaching and learning, culturally rich teaching tools are language textbooks that go beyond their pedagogical purpose and reflect the culture associated with the language in question. The choice of materials is not neutral; it comes from a particular ideology and axiological position intentionally chosen by the authors and developers. Through the use of certain textbooks, we will study the representations of France with which a non-native learner might be confronted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
