Abstract
- We propose a detection scheme for localized magnetostatic surface (LMS) resonant spheres using a near-field probe. The detection is facilitated by an electrically very small probe that is highly susceptible to magnetic energy in its surroundings. In the presence of a magnetic dispersive sphere, the probe's reflection coefficient S11 demonstrates an open circuit behavior at LMS resonance along with resonance splitting. A circuit model is presented to predict the LMS resonance, and full-wave simulation of the probe is provided to demonstrate the phenomenon and validate the circuit model. The detection mechanism can be generalized to detect LMS resonance in nonspherical shapes having low magnetic loss in low microwave frequencies. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
