Abstract

The article looks at the life and legacy of intellectual and Leftist revolutionary Omar Blondin Diop, who died in detention on Gorée Island in 1973. Topics mentioned include an homage held on May 10, 2014 for Diop at the Université Cheikh Anta Diop in Senegal, Gorée as a United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization World Heritage Site in 1978, and the three-part structure of Gorée's memorial discourse.
