Measuring the Power of State Legislative Leaders.

A conference paper on understanding the power of state legislative leaders and approaches to measure their power is to be presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Political Science Association. Topics discussed include influence of leaders for state legislatures and Congress, use of Bayesian hierarchical model for estimating the influence of majority party leaders, and analysis on the linkages between formal institutional powers and perceived power.
