Abstract

In this study, the activity of an organic antibacterial agent on subclinical mastitis treatment was investigated. Ninety mammary lobes with subclinical mastitis were divided into three groups. Oxytocin was applied five minutes before milking Groups I, II and III. After milking, intramammary antibiotic combination of amoxicillin, clavulanic acid and prednizolon Group II and Aloe vera were applied to Group III, respectively. Milk samples were taken for Somatic cell count at day 0. 4 and 31. In addition, microbiological examinations were performed for samples taken at day 31. There were no differences between groups for SCC at day 0. Somatic cell count was found the highest in Group I and the lowest in Group III in at day 31. The best improvement for bacteriological recovery rate was in the day 31 in Grup II and was found significant. The difference between Group I and Group III was statiscally significant. As a result, we concluded that Aloe vera can be useful for the treatment of subclinical mastitis but, further research done on this issue is needed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
