An overview of the conceptual and functional evolution of the University Library since its inception, when the conservation of books was its most important task, until nowadays, when it is characterized by the rise of resource centers for learning and research. Some comments about the development, related services and current challenges of the latter are provided, as well as some considerations about the need for a CRAI model at the Cuban university.
