Abstract

The island of Cyprus had been conquested by the Ottomans from the Venetian rullers in 1571. Later the Island had been annexed by the British Empire since the Ottomans had allaiance with Germans during the First World War in 1914.. In 1930s the rebellion movement which had started against English was failed. After 1950, the events in Cyprus island had continued by the opposition of the Turkish to Rum (Greek of Turkish citizenship)/Greek couple. By the Cyprus Peace Operation in 1974, the independent Turkish Republic was established. The Mith/ saga texts which have an important role in Cyprus Turkish literature; can be easily seperated from the other folk narrations as they are religious, persuasive and prose. The sagas told in relation to Cyprus island are being primarily fed from verbal resources and 58 types of them are determined. The equivalent texts of 58 types are also added in our study from time to time. Thus the existence of different narrations of a saga type has been presented to the reader. The sagas have attracted our attention with their single motive. Each mith has only one motive diverse from others. These motives can be generally classified under the titles of magic, wondrousness, religion, etc. The number of sagas determined in relation to Cyprus is 58 and being classified under 16 titles, they have been examined due to historicalgeographic Finnish method. By the help of this study, the 58 types of sagas and their equivalents in the international motives index have been depermined. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
