Abstract

The author reflects on the risk of sepsis after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). He considers sepsis and sepsis-related complications such as multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) and acute lung injury or acute respiratory distress syndrome as the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in critically ill patients worldwide. He also discusses a study on the development sepsis after HSCT.
