The Battle to Belong.

An essay is presented in which the author reflects on the sense of lost identity that can be associated with immigration, citing his own experiences born to South African Jewish parents in London, England before moving to South Africa and then Israel. He comments on his parents' efforts to suppress their Jewish identity as well as his mother's struggles to adapt to life in England that led to depression and her eventual suicide.
