Abstract
- A simple, rapid and selective colorimetric technique for the determination of low level concentration of uranium in nuclear waste streams is described. The proposed method is based on the intensity of U-Br-PADAP (Uranium-2-(5-Bromo-2-pyridylazo)-5-diethyl-aminophenol) colour formed on strip indicator paper. The effect of pH, concentration of chromogenic reagent, stability of the colour, volume of buffer solution and interference of metal ions were studied. The detection limit is 1 mg/L. Various uranium samples have been tested for the validation of the proposed method. The results obtained are reproducible and good agreement with those obtained by the standard technique.
