Abstract
- The purpose of this essay is to analyze issues raised in the film The Piano Teacher: "perversion", "the austerity of serious music" and its "decadence" in mass societies, "commercial pornography", the discrepancy between "sublimation and perversion" and/or "erudite and worldly". The reference for such analysis is the critical theory of society through its authors: Adorno, Horkheimer, and Marcuse. The Freudian concepts are used as theoretical tools for the critique of culture. With the purpose of shedding light on the so-called anthropological suppositions of the administered world, we discuss the problem of the neutralization of the great art, as well as the subjects' mutilated experiences that are seated in the sadomasochistic and fetishistic pleasure with others and with cultural objects, having Haneke's film as the background.
