Abstract

The article presents a study on the genetic diversity of oropharyngeal tularemia in Turkey from December 2009 until January 2011. The zoonotic disease is caused by Francisella tularensis subspecie holarctica from contaminated water. Samples from 14 patients were taken for fine-needle lymph node aspiration, DNA extraction and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). It is suggested that the disease expands the known geographic range of these phylogenetic groups.
