Objective Methodology Results Conclusions Conference abstracts and peer‐reviewed publications form the basis for research dissemination. We evaluated the abstract publication rates following their presentation at the Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery of Great Britain and Ireland (AUGIS) meetings between 2013 and 2019.A systematic search and analysis was conducted in 2021 and 2023. Using abstract titles, keywords, and first and senior authors, AUGIS abstracts were queried on PubMed, Science Direct, Google Scholar, and Google. Abstract, authors, journal, and time of publication were extracted and analysed.A total of 1220 abstracts were presented over 6 years of conferences, 388 of which were subsequently published. The overall publication rate was 32%, with 47% of oral publications and 29% of posters being published. Oral presentations were significantly more likely than posters to be published (P <.001). Publications spanned 134 journals, with mean and median publication times of 14 and 15 months, respectively.The publication of AUGIS meeting abstracts was comparable to other surgical scientific meetings. These can serve as judging standards for projects worthy of presentations as conferences remain a crucial forum for learning and collaboration. Purpose: Academic conferences play a crucial role in fostering scholarly exchanges and discussions among core members, thereby shaping the core performance of these events. Understanding the contributions of scholars in academic conferences is essential for advancing the goals and development of such events. This paper aims to discuss the aforementioned idea. Design/methodology/approach: This paper proposes a comprehensive measurement method for measuring scholars' academic activeness in academic conferences. Based on the essence of academic activeness, a measurement model is constructed, comprising the breadth of academic activeness using the RFM model and the depth of academic activeness using the ATM model. Additionally, effective categories of scholars are derived from the model, facilitating the identification of valuable scholars in academic conferences. Findings: Empirical evidence from ASIS&T conference records over the past 20 years demonstrates that the proposed measurement indicators have better coverage compared to traditional evaluation indicators, thus complementing existing scholar evaluation indictators. Furthermore, the academic activeness measurement model presented in this paper exhibits good efficacy in identifying important value and active scholars. Context.--Social media is a powerful tool in pathology education and professional networking that connects pathologists and pathology trainees from around the world. Twitter (X) appears to be the most popular social media platform pathologists use to share pathology-related content and connect with other pathologists. Although there has been some published research on pathology-related activity on Twitter during short time frames, to date there has not been published research examining pathology-related Twitter activity in totality from its earliest days of activity to recently. Objective.--To comprehensively evaluate the use of pathology on Twitter (X) during the last 10 years. Design.--Pathology-related tweets were systematically scraped from Twitter from January 2012 to January 2023 using pathology hashtags as a surrogate measure for all pathology content on Twitter. COVID-related tweets were approximated by tweets containing the term "COVID." Results.--There were 591 812 unique pathology-related tweets identified during the time period, with #pathology being the most common hashtag used and #PathTwitter becoming more popular since 2020. There has been positive annual growth of pathology Twitter, with peaks in use during major pathology conferences. During the initial phases of the COVID-19 pandemic, a sustained increase in pathology tweets was observed. Conclusions.--Pathology Twitter has grown during the last 10 years and has become increasingly popular for pathology education and networking. With the changing landscape of social media platforms, this study provides an understanding of how pathology medical education and professional networking uses of social media happen and evolve over time. The data presented at the 9th International Murnau Conference on September 18–21, 2024, the largest recurring structural biology meeting in Central Europe, illustrated the thriving state of the structural biology community. Conferences can be sites for learning about contemporary research, socializing, and developing projects. However, they can also orbit around already established forms of knowledge-making, dividing the academic dialogue along sociocultural, racial, gendered, and national lines. Through the concept of conference climate, this article explores the International Rhetoric Workshop (IRW)—an alternative conference site that has sought to empower international and early-career scholars. IRW is designed to address not only the intellectual, but also the social, emotional, and physical dimensions of the conference environment. Conventionally, bovine in vitro -produced (IVP) embryos for transfer are morphologically evaluated at day 7–8 of embryo culture, as recommended by the International Embryo Technology Society (IETS). However, this method is subjective, relying on the percentage of degenerated cells and developmental stage, leading to variability depending on the operator. In contrast, we have implemented a novel selection system for bovine IVP blastocysts using time-lapse monitoring in specially developed microwell culture dishes (LinKID micro25). This approach allows for continuous tracking of individual embryo development. Additionally, we have advanced live-cell imaging technology to observe nuclear and chromosomal dynamics during early embryogenesis, identifying prognostic factors indicative of viability post-transfer. Integrating these factors has significantly improved conception rates compared to conventional morphological evaluation. This review discusses morphokinetics relevant to viability and our innovative selection system, which enable accurate prediction of embryo viability after transfer in cattle. Conventionally, the quality of bovine IVP embryos is evaluated around day 7–8, and the process is subjective and operator-dependent. A new approach using time-lapse monitoring in specialized culture dishes improves accuracy by continuously tracking individual embryo development. Aim: The aim of this study was to present the third position statement from the International Learning Collaborative (ILC). The ILC is the foremost global organization dedicated to transforming fundamental care. Internationally, fundamental care is reported to be poorly delivered, delayed or missed, negatively impacting patients, their families/carers and healthcare staff and systems. Overcoming this global challenge requires profound transformation in how our healthcare systems value, deliver and evaluate fundamental care. This transformation will take both evolutionary and revolutionary guises. In this position statement, we argue how this [r]evolutionary transformation for fundamental care can and must be created within clinical practice. Design: Position paper. Methods: This position statement stems from the ILC's annual conference and Leadership Program held in Portland, Maine, USA, in June 2023. The statement draws on the discussions between participants and the authors' subsequent reflections and synthesis of these discussions and ideas. The conference and Leadership Program involved participants (n = 209) from 13 countries working primarily within clinical practice. Results: The statement focuses on what must occur to transform how fundamental care is valued, prioritized and delivered within clinical practice settings globally. To ensure demonstrable change, the statement comprises four action‐oriented strategies that must be systematically owned by healthcare staff and leaders and embedded in our healthcare organizations and systems: Address non‐nursing tasks: reclaim and protect time to provide high‐value fundamental care.Accentuate the positive: change from deficit‐based to affirmative language when describing fundamental care.Access evidence and assess impact: demonstrate transformation in fundamental care by generating relevant indicators and impact measures and rigorously synthesizing existing research.Advocate for interprofessional collaboration: support high‐quality, transdisciplinary fundamental care delivery via strong nursing leadership. Conclusion: The ILC Maine Statement calls for ongoing action – [r]evolution – from healthcare leaders and staff within clinical practice to prioritize fundamental care throughout healthcare systems globally. The Issues in Political Economy (IPE) journal and related conference sessions were established in the early 1990s as outlets for undergraduates to present and publish peer-reviewed research in economics. By providing opportunities to attend and present at professional conferences, referee papers, and edit journal issues, IPE reflects authentic practices within the profession. In this article, the authors describe the benefits that accrue to students who participate in the public dissemination of research, explain how IPE operates, offer some descriptive evidence of its success over the years, and conclude by describing how several departments have leveraged IPE to complement their curricula and build sustainable cultures of undergraduate research at their institutions. Many peer-review processes involve reviewers submitting their independent reviews, followed by a discussion between the reviewers of each paper. A common question among policymakers is whether the reviewers of a paper should be anonymous to each other during the discussion. We shed light on this question by conducting a randomized controlled trial at the Conference on Uncertainty in Artificial Intelligence (UAI) 2022 conference where reviewer discussions were conducted over a typed forum. We randomly split the reviewers and papers into two conditions–one with anonymous discussions and the other with non-anonymous discussions. We also conduct an anonymous survey of all reviewers to understand their experience and opinions. We compare the two conditions in terms of the amount of discussion, influence of seniority on the final decisions, politeness, reviewers' self-reported experiences and preferences. Overall, this experiment finds small, significant differences favoring the anonymous discussion setup based on the evaluation criteria considered in this work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to examine the factors contributing to motivation and loyalty among scholars attending international academic conferences. Specifically, the study aims to understand what motivates scholars to participate actively in these events by investigating the interaction between academic skills, academic self-concept, support, motivation, and loyalty. Data were collected from 238 respondents to a structured questionnaire distributed at three international conferences in Indonesia, South Korea, and India. As a result of these findings, academic skills (β = 0.453, t -value = 5.128) and self-concept (β = 0.358, t -value = 3.963) significantly influence perceived support, which encourages motivation and fosters loyalty toward these conferences. Furthermore, motivation serves as a critical mediator, bringing together academic skills and self-esteem with loyalty, suggesting that nurturing these elements has a significant impact on scholars' engagement and commitment to the academic community. The 2023 World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) Open Science Conference underscored the critical need for increased climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts, along with enhanced climate knowledge and decision-making systems. This Perspective discusses climate intervention (CI) within WCRP's research framework, emphasizing three main approaches: terrestrial carbon dioxide removal (CDR), marine CDR, and solar radiation modification (SRM). As global anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise, CI strategies are increasingly recognized as potentially critical supplements to traditional mitigation methods. We call for WCRP to take a leadership role in CI research, highlighting the need for inclusivity and collaboration, especially with researchers from the Global South, to establish a firm scientific foundation for an equitable and comprehensive assessment of the benefits and risks of CI approaches relative to the risks of anthropogenic climate change. We determine the quadratic Chabauty set for integral points on elliptic curves of rank 2 defined over imaginary quadratic fields. This builds on the work of Bianchi ( Q (- 3) -Integral points on a Mordell curve, International Congress on Mathematical Software, Springer, 2020) and Balakrishnan et al. (Israel J. Math. 243(1):185–232, 2021). We give the first instance of the implementation of anticyclotomic heights for curves which are not base changes, along with an implementation of a certain sieve for elliptic curves introduced by Balakrishnan et al. (Math. Comput. 86(305):1403–1434, 2017) and used by Bianchi ( Q (- 3) -Integral points on a Mordell curve, International Congress on Mathematical Software, Springer, 2020) to determine integral points of rank 2. We give the first example of the determination of the integral points of an elliptic curve of rank 2 defined over an imaginary quadratic field, which is not a base change via quadratic Chabauty. The Fourth International Last Aid Conference was held from 4th to 6th September 2024 in Cologne, Germany. Seventy-three participants from 16 different countries and nationalities participated in the Fourth International Last Aid conference in the Mildred Scheel Academy and the Department of Palliative Medicine at the University Hospital of Cologne, Germany. The main topics of the conference were experiences with Last Aid Courses, research on public palliative care education (PPCE) and networks in community palliative care from different countries. The speakers from different countries around the world presented experiences with networking in community care, PPCE and lessons learned from the implementation of Last Aid Courses and different course formats in different countries. The contribution of research and the past and future work of the Last Aid International Research Group (LARGI) for the development of Last Aid was presented and discussed. The International Journal of Sports Physical Therapy is pleased to publish abstracts from the fourteenth Orthopaedic Summit (OSET) taking place in Las Vegas, September 13-18, 2024. The IJSPT hosted the third annual research forum and reception at OSET, sponsored by ATI Physical Therapy and Hyperice. The abstracts presented in the following pages were selected by the OSET Research Committee and editorial staff of the International Journal of Sports Physical Therapy. After careful review, a total of 18 research abstracts were accepted and presented at OSET 2024. Awards for outstanding abstracts were presented on September 14. The 2024 abstracts include contemporary orthopaedic and rehabilitation topics across various research designs. Each abstract presents only a brief summary of a research project / presentation and does not permit full assessment of the scientific rigor with which the work was conducted. While the abstracts offer only preliminary results that may require further refinement and future validation, they do serve an important role in sharing new research ideas and rehabilitation advancements. This sharing of ideas helps to encourage dialogue among researchers, clinicians, and educators that will ultimately contribute to the orthopaedic and rehabilitation body of knowledge. Featured Application: Imaging in stratified media and imaging of buried cavities. This contribution deals with the focusing and time–depth conversion of GPR data in a two-layer scenario. In a layered scenario, the different propagation velocities of the electromagnetic waves in different layers can induce distortion in the reconstruction. In particular, it is not possible, with common data processing, to achieve the focusing of both the targets embedded in the upper and deeper layers at the same time. We will present a strategy for mitigating this problem. The strength points of this strategy are its simplicity and the fact that it only requires a commercial code for the GPR data processing plus some steps easily implementable through a homemade code. This work extends a contribution of the same authors at the 20th International GPR conference held in Chanchung, China, in June 2024, and the conclusions are updated with three-dimensional numerical results, including depth slices determined directly in the spatial domain. Searches for pairs of Higgs bosons are the best tools to precisely measure the Higgs boson self-coupling λhhh in future colliders. We study various strategies for the hh→bb̄bb̄ search in the HL-LHC era with focus on constraining λhhh. We implement a machine-learning-based approach to separate signal and background and apply recent advances in machine learning interpretability, compare the traditional 4 b-jet reconstruction to final states with 1 or 2 large-radius jets, and test scenarios with different top-quark Yukawa couplings, among other factors. AbstractThe study utilizes an analytical quality-by-design (AQbD) approach to establish a robust and efficient HPTLC method for plumbagin quantification in plumbago species. The highest-risk critical method parameters (CMP; concentration of plumbago and composition of mobile phase) and most appropriate critical analytical attributes (CAA; Peak area and retention factor [Rf]) were employed in the AQbD methodology. These CMP were tuned for higher plumbagin recovery using the central composite design (CCD) experiment. The created approach was validated by the requirements outlined in the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) Q2 (R2). Every plate involved in the proposed method validation has been subjected to the passing requirements of the system suitability test (SST). The low LOD (16.93 ng/mL) and LOQ (49.68 ng/mL) values and the minimal divergence in intra- and inter-day studies validate the developed method’s high precision and sensitivity. Further experiments employing the proposed method to determine the amount of plumbagin from the two distinct plant sources harvested under two different climate conditions determined the highest plumbagin content in P. indica, which is in line with the results. To summarize, the AQbD method may be used in other plant systems to optimize various factors and get a greater concentration of the desired plant metabolite. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Hague Conference on Private International Law (hereinafter - "Conference") has played a pivotal role in the development and unification of jurisdictional rules in private international law. This paper examines the outcomes of the Conference various conventions, focusing on their impact on harmonizing jurisdictional frameworks among member states. By analyzing key conventions, such as the 1965 Hague Convention on Service Abroad of Judicial and Extrajudicial Documents, the 1970 Hague Convention on the Taking of Evidence Abroad in Civil or Commercial Matters, and the 2005 Hague Convention on Choice of Court Agreements, this research highlights how these instruments address conflicts of laws and jurisdictional disputes in cross-border cases. The paper further explores the challenges faced in implementing these conventions, including differing national interpretations and the influence of domestic legal systems on international agreements. Through comparative analysis, it evaluates the effectiveness of these conventions in reducing forum shopping and ensuring more predictable outcomes for parties involved in international disputes. Moreover, this study reflects on the future prospects for further unification of jurisdiction rules, considering emerging trends such as globalization, digitalization, and the increasing complexity of cross-border legal issues. The research aims to contribute to the discourse on private international law by providing insights into the Conference achievements and identifying areas where further efforts are needed to enhance the coherence and effectiveness of jurisdictional rules. Ultimately, the findings underscore the significance of international cooperation in resolving jurisdictional challenges and advancing the uniform application of private international law principles. The success of the Hague Conference, however, hinges not only on the adoption of conventions but also on the degree to which states integrate these instruments into their domestic legal frameworks. Inconsistencies in ratification and divergent national practices often dilute the intended harmonization, creating gaps in enforcement and legal uncertainty. Some major economies have yet to ratify key conventions, limiting their global reach and diminishing the benefits of predictability and uniformity. These obstacles highlight the need for stronger mechanisms to monitor and encourage compliance, along with the development of flexible frameworks that can accommodate diverse legal traditions while still promoting convergence. Enhanced dialogue among member states and targeted technical assistance could foster broader participation, ensuring that the potential of the Conference's conventions is fully realized. AbstractInternational Relations (IR) long reproduced a mythical account of how the discipline was born out of a “first great debate” in the 1930s between a dominant group of naïve appeasing idealists versus a group of firm scientific realists. Thorough revisionist historical work has since challenged the mythical narrative and introduced two major revisions to disciplinary history: Interwar IR was not dominated by idealism and the first great debate never happened. We contend that a ­realism-idealism debate did take place but took different forms and included a different cast than in the mythical account. We conceptualize debates as fractal position-taking, rather than clashes between two or more self-identified camps of scholars. We explore how realism-idealism was used for position-taking in the oral debates at the International Studies Conference during the 1930s. Our post-revisionist story has surprising implications for the discipline, especially for the self-­understanding of realists, since we find pro-fascist scholars as central advocates for realism. The first great debate was a decisive, formative moment that structured IR with enduring effects, including exclusionary ones that suppressed alternative origin stories. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To present the first Brazilian real-world results with galcanezumab and provide a consensus expert opinion on the prophylactic treatment of cluster headache (CH) in Brazil. Methods: The first part of the study (real-world results) was observational, prospective, uncontrolled, and descriptive. A sample of 44 consecutive patients with episodic or chronic CH were evaluated and treated in a traditional tertiary clinic from March 2020 to June 2024. The second part (consensus expert opinion) consisted of a survey completed by ten Brazilian headache clinicians with at least 25 years of clinical experience, who published at least 15 headache papers and attended at least 15 national or international headache conferences. Results: Forty-four patients (86.4% men, 13.6% women) were included. The average age was 45.9 ± 14.2 years. The diagnosis was made 27.3 ± 13.6 years after the onset of headache bouts. In 84.1% of the patients, CH was classified as episodic. Verapamil, lithium, or verapamil plus lithium were prescribed to respectively, 25%, 9.1%, and 6.8% of patients. Galcanezumab was prescribed to all and the majority (65.9%) used a dose of 300 mg once. There was a reduction in headache frequency of ≥ 50% at 3 weeks in 65.9% of patients for all doses of galcanezumab, and in 72.4% of those using galcanezumab 300 mg.
