Collection storage is one of the most complex collaborations a museum, library, or archive can undertake. A high-level initial assessment can help overcome the inertia and complexity that overwhelms larger organizations due to the number of stakeholders, spaces, and collections. Large institutions need to rise above room-level preservation issues and focus on global, values-based thinking. With support from the Sustaining Cultural Heritage Collections (SCHC) program of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), The Research Libraries of the New York Public Library (NYPL) designed a collaborative pre-planning exercise to inform long-range collection storage planning for over fifty storage areas within its Manhattan research centers. Pulling together experts in architecture, preservation environment, and sustainability to review NYPL's storage needs in collaboration with an internal team of stakeholders, the project established foundations for ongoing values-based collaborative planning. The goal of this research was to determine how competence functions as a mediator between performance, training, and motivation. This study performed a multivariate analysis with a descriptive and explanatory quantitative strategy. The research sample consisted of 80 respondents selected by employing a proportional sampling technique. Data were collected through an instrument questionnaire and analyzed using the partial least squares (PLS) approach of structural equation modeling (SEM). The results showed that: Motivation and training both have a substantial impact on performance; Motivation and training both have a substantial impact on performance; Competence has a significant role in performance as a mediator variable, competence has a considerable ability to mediate the influence of motivation and training on performance. The results of the calculation of the square value of multiple correlations (R2) of 0.274 and 0.572 respectively show the strength of the competence dependent variable and employee performance. They form a small proportion, no more than eleven manuscripts, of the romance manuscripts that survive. The article argues that when Chaucer asked Richard II for leave to appoint a proxy to perform his duties at the London wool quay in 1385, he wrote the petition in his own hand. The evidence is the informal nature of the petition itself, which is short, simply worded, and carelessly written; its form (as a "chamberlain's bill," it offered the simplest bureaucratic option for a member of the royal household); and the facts that it is an original, not a bureaucratic copy, and once bore Chaucer's personal seal; that its spelling of Chaucer's name as "Geffray" may reflect a personal preference; and that Chaucer was allowed no clerical staff and was expected to keep records in his own hand. Chaucer's contemporaries wrote more elaborate petitions than this one in their own hands, so the burden of proof lies with those who wish to claim that this petition is the work of a professional scribe. This qualitative case study explores the purchase motivations and collecting behavior of self-assessed Funko Pop collectors. It finds that the individual collector's self-identification influences individual purchase and collection decisions. It also finds that social collecting behaviors may influence individual collecting behavior, suggesting that collecting communities may establish collecting norms and experiences. This study maps out the collecting experience, provides a unique perspective on social collecting behaviors, explores the nuances of the collecting experience, and recommends potential direction for managers. This exploratory case study seeks to understand the purchase and collection motivations of an international co-branded limited-edition collectible. It also explores consumers’ perceptions of the brand collaboration between Philippine-based Jollibee and United States-based Funko. This study finds that consumers are motivated to purchase and collect products based on their willingness to identify with the brand, which stems from personal values, self-concept, and nostalgia. While most studies on cobranding use simulated alliances, this study provides a real example of an international branding collaboration, thereby providing a nuanced understanding of co-branding spillover effects and how a consumer’s willingness to identify with a brand motivates their purchase and collection decisions. Angela Carter, one of the greatest British post-war novelists, is already well known for her modern treatment of traditional folk and fairy tales. A new private archive, containing notebooks, LPs, books, and recordings, has recently come to light in Bristol which proves beyond doubt that Carter played an active role in the traditional folk scene in Bristol during the 1960s as a singer, a player, and a scholar, alongside her first husband, producer and field recordist Paul Carter. As part of a wider study of the influence of folk singing on Carter's literary works, this article examines how Carter the editor and curator learned from folk song collectors how to repurpose traditional material, and in particular from A. Te Papa Museum's International History Collection comprises about 6,000 collection items, around 1,000 of which are associated with South Africa. This article provides a brief overview of the development of the collection. The authors also present a small study of the collection, focusing on provenance details of acquisitions, objects and key historical events. The article traces important historical connections between South Africa and New Zealand in the 19th century to contextualise the objects held in Te Papa's collection. It introduces the 2021 project undertaken to increase public awareness of Te Papa's South Africa collection. Five significant donors and their contribution to the museum are explored, as well as a further two objects of unknown provenance to direct future aims of building international institutional relationships. In the Pălatca Commune (Cluj County), a prehistoric (probably elk) antler axe was discovered accidentally. It later came into the possession of a collector. The item is extremely rare, which is why we subjected it to analysis in the present paper. The best analogies found are among the Bronze Age items from the current space of Ukraine and Russia. We believe that the closest analogy is the famous sceptre-axe discovered in Dudarkov, which is particularly remarkable due to the numerous zoomorphic, phytoform and geometric motifs incised on its surface, attributed to the Mnogovalikovaja culture. Based on these correspondences, our assessment is that the axe from Pălatca can be interpreted as a sceptre, similar to other antler items already discovered in the Mid- and Late Bronze Age in Transylvania or neighbouring regions. Looking historically at cleanliness, care practices, and accessories, this article examines how a variety of actors—from record listeners and music journalists to inventors, advertisers, and corporations—grappled with the problem of cleaning vinyl records in the pursuit of "clean sound" in the period between the 1950s and 1970s. Detailing how washing and preserving records became a commercialized, scientific, and often gendered caretaking process for collectors, the piece makes the case for studying under-explored dimensions of music production/consumption related to housekeeping, preservation, and embodied practices. To this end, the article offers the concept of "media hygiene" as a tool for initiating broader discussions in media studies about fragility and the role of mess in everyday media interactions. The Rare Books department at the Free Library of Philadelphia owns a deluxe manuscript of Sa'di's Kulliyat , originally produced in mid-sixteenth century Shiraz and substantially modified in more modern times. Among the alterations was the insertion of a copy of the famous Timurid painting "Humay and Humayun in a garden", belonging to the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris. The Philadelphia version of the Paris painting was likely based on either a published reproduction or a photograph taken of the original composition when it was on view at the ground-breaking 1910 exhibition "Meisterwerke muhammedanischer Kunst" in Munich. That photographic reproductions could result in pictorial replicas reveals once again the market forces behind the great interest in, demand for, and production of classical Persian painting during the early twentieth century. I do not begin at the beginning, since whatever one wishes to speak of so often follows some significant precursor, but to make a start: F. R. Martin's The Miniature Painting and Painters of Persia, India and Turkey, from the 8th to the 18th Century was published in 1912. Martin describes his book as 'purely prefactory to a knowledge of a hitherto neglected section of art'. It is an éminence grise , a great slab of a book presumably intended mainly for collectors and so perhaps rather intimidating to students of later ages, but containing a great deal of information, a little of which we would now see as incorrect, and a large collection of illustrations in black-and-white that continue to be useful. There is considerable focus on the work of individual artists and, in particular, attributions to Bihzad abound. Already from the title it is clear that Martin sees the painting of Iran, of (Muslim) India, and of (Ottoman) Turkey as a continuum. The question of whether these areas can—or should—be considered together or severally continues to arise, and must, I think, be decided for each particular occasion. Two other monumental books that, between them, demonstrate this question of choice are Arménag Sakisian's La miniature persane du XIIe au XVIIe siècle and E. Blochet's Musulman Painting XIIth–XVIIth Century , both of 1929. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
