The Academy of Management Journal (AMJ) provides a broad platform for empirical management research that encompasses diverse topics, methodologies, and data types. Despite the wide array of studies published, successful research projects share key elements, such as an intriguing research question, a structured theoretical foundation, and a suitable research setting. This From the Editors piece introduces the AMJ Management Research Canvas, a guide for scholars to systematically address these core elements. By helping researchers align their studies with essential design and theoretical criteria, the canvas aims to improve the quality and coherence of submissions, benefiting both novice and experienced scholars in management and organizational research.

For the past 70 years, researchers and experimental musicians have been working with computersynthesized music, forming a collaborative relationship with generative artificial intelligences known as human--AI co-creation. The last several years have shown that musical artists are quickly adopting AI tools to produce music for AI music competitions and for commercial production of songs and albums. The United States Copyright Office, in response to this trend, has released its latest policy revisions to clearly define what is eligible for copyright registration. Soon after, the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) also released new guidelines, providing recommendations for how library catalogers should address AI-generated materials. In both cases, they reject the notion of considering AI as a contributor. The language in each of these policies, however, is self-contradicting, showing that they are ill equipped to address generative AI. This study leverages critical textual analysis and qualitative content analysis and uses case examples to probe the manner in which these policies regard generative AI. Recommendations are made for addressing shortcomings in the PCC's policies, and moral philosophical frameworks such as virtue ethics and consequentialism support arguments for supplementing catalog item records with information from authoritative external sources, deviating from this policy for the sake of truth-seeking. Background: This article evaluates the evolution of physical activity and health research in China through a bibliometric analysis focused on number of publications, study areas, and sex balance in authorship. Methods: A systematic review was conducted by the Global Observatory for Physical Activity for "physical activity and health" publications between 1950 and 2019. Here, we focus on the 610 Chinese publications identified, defined as those in which data collection took place in China. We assessed the number of publications, classified them into 5 areas (1) surveillance, (2) correlates and determinants, (3) health consequences, (4) interventions, and (5) policy, and analyzed female participation in authorship. Results: The first Chinese publication identified in the review was in 1990. Since, the average number of physical activity and health publications increased from one per year in the 1990s to 7.6 per year in the 2000s, and to 47 per year in the 2010s. Most publications focused on the correlates and determinants (38.7%) and the health consequences of physical activity (35.9%). Physical activity policy accounted for 2.3% of the publications. In the 1990s, 64% of the publications included at least one female author; this proportion increased to 90% in the 2010s. Conclusion: Despite a slow start, China's research on physical activity and health has grown rapidly since 2000. The distribution of publications by study areas and female participation in authorship is similar to that observed globally, with fewer publications focused on interventions and policy as compared with other topics. This article from the editors of the "Academy of Management Review" states that a rejection of a theory-only paper doesn't imply that the effort was in vain, as the content can be repurposed into other publication formats including literature reviews, structured theory articles, inductive and abductive studies, or deductive and hypothesis-testing research. These alternative formats address common challenges faced by theory paper authors, potentially increasing the impact and preserving core ideas of the original work. Authors are encouraged to utilize developmental feedback and resources to improve their manuscripts and explore different formats to advance their theoretical contributions, whether their initial submissions are successful or not.

Authorship and dissemination policies vary across NIH research consortia. We aimed to describe elements of real-life policies in use by eligible U01 clinical research consortia. Principal investigators of eligible, active U01 clinical research projects identified in the NIH Research Portfolio Online Reporting Tools database shared relevant policies. The characteristics of key policy elements, determined a priori, were reviewed and quantified, when appropriate. Twenty one of 81 research projects met search criteria and provided policies. K elements (e.g., in quotations): manuscript proposals reviewed and approved by committee (90%); guidelines for acknowledgements (86%); writing team formation (71%); process for final manuscript review and approval (71%), responsibilities for lead author (67%), guidelines for other types of publications (67%); draft manuscript review and approval (62%); recommendation for number of members per consortium site (57%); and requirement to identify individual contributions in the manuscript (19%). Authorship/dissemination policies for large team science research projects are highly variable. Creation of an NIH policies repository and accompanying toolkit with model language and recommended key elements could improve comprehensiveness, ethical integrity, and efficiency in team science work while reducing burden and cost on newly funded consortia and directing time and resources to scientific endeavors.

Background: The objective of this study was to investigate gender differences in authorship in physical activity and health research. Methods: A bibliometric study including 23,399 articles from 105 countries was conducted to estimate the participation of female researchers in physical activity publications from 1950 to 2019. The frequency of female researchers was analyzed and classified by first and last authors and the overall percentage of female authors by region and country. Results: The proportion of female first authors increased from <10% in the 50s and 80s to 55% in the last decade. On the other hand, the proportion of last authors increased from 8.7% to 41.1% in the same period. Most publications with female researchers were from the United States, Canada, Australia, Brazil, the Netherlands, Spain, England, Germany, Sweden, and China. Nine of these countries had over 50% of the articles published by female first authors. However, in all 10 countries, <50% of the articles were published by female last authors. Conclusions: The proportion of female researchers increased over time. However, regional differences exist and should be addressed in gender equity policies. There is a gap in the participation of female researchers as last authors. By actively addressing the gender gap in research, the global society can harness the full potential of all talented individuals, regardless of gender, leading to more inclusive and impactful scientific advancements. Over the past decade, the journal has experienced significant growth in readership, impact factor, citations, and submissions. While the majority of accepted papers come from the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and Germany, the journal aims to bridge the gap between academia and practice in the field of market research. In order to enhance its relevance and accessibility, IJMR will transition to an online-only format, adopt an interdisciplinary focus, provide guidelines for more user-friendly article formats, and publish a list of research priorities based on the perspectives of leading practitioners. Abstract: With the advent of ChatGPT and other large language models, the number of artificial texts we encounter on a daily basis is about to increase substantially. This essay asks how this new textual situation may influence what one can call the “standard expectation of unknown texts,” which has always included the assumption that any text is the work of a human being. As more and more artificial writing begins to circulate, the essay argues, this standard expectation will shift—first, from the immediate assumption of human authorship to, second, a creeping doubt: did a machine write this? In the wake of what Matthew Kirschenbaum has called the “textpocalypse,” however, this state cannot be permanent. The author suggests that after this second transitional period, one may suspend the question of origins and, third, take on a post-artificial stance. One would then focus only on what a text says, not on who wrote it; post-artificial writing would be read with an agnostic attitude about its origins. This essay explores the implications of such post-artificiality by looking back to the early days of text synthesis, considering the limitations of aesthetic Turing tests, and indulging in reasoned speculation about the future of literary and nonliterary text generation.

The academic publishing process is fraught with challenges, inconsistencies, and the absence of clearly articulated guidelines and recommendations, particularly for doctoral students and other newcomers. Our goal is to overview key information that authors may consider and decisions they will need to make when determining authorship and preparing manuscripts for submission. Specifically, we discuss how authors can consider (a) the ongoing discussion of authorship, (b) identifying a target journal, and (c) submitting a manuscript for review. We draw influence from how processes are conducted relative to the Journal of Teaching in Physical Education in approaching our commentary as a point of reference. Nevertheless, while acknowledging differences in journal style and submission formats, many of the considerations discussed are relevant across publication outlets. Common threads across the discussion impress the importance of being intentional, proactive, and adaptive when engaging in authorship conversations and identifying target journals for submission. The question of authorship and legal ownership in AI-generated creative materials has become a contentious issue on an international level. This paper investigates the complexity of attribution of legal copyrights within the framework of the U.S. Copyright Law system and explores potential solutions to this evolving dilemma. The U.S. Copyright Law, rooted in the protection of inventors' exclusive rights, extends to both authors and owners, intending to safeguard intellectual property in the judicial field. AI-generated works, however, present a unique issue as they blur the lines of authorship in presented works. The U.S. Copyright Office, while expressing interest in addressing these issues, currently rejects applications attributing AI as the primary creator due to historical legal precedents, marking uncertainty with both creators and the general public about the future of commercialized AI-generated works. This paper highlights the intricate legal and philosophical questions surrounding AI and copyright law, emphasizing the need to carefully consider the roles and responsibilities of both AI and its users in the creative process. As AI technology continues to evolve, these debates will shape the future of copyright law's application to AI-generated works. The current application of AI in the creative process does fit within the U.S. Copyright Law, but with further evolution, the scope of human involvement could be reduced.

Disseminating research or evidence-based practice is not straightforward. As more clinical nurses, executive nurse leaders, nurse scientists, and faculty contribute to new knowledge, there is an increasing need to support the processes to publish and disseminate manuscripts to advance healthcare. Nurse administrators and leaders are key influencers and supporters to bolster expertise and resources to publish. Article content and author characteristics were analysed in the articles published in the British Journal of Guidance and Counselling (BJGC) from 2000–2019 to determine trends over time. The BJGC publishes more total articles and guidance and counselling research articles annually than any other guidance and counselling journal except the Journal of Counseling & Development. The University of Leeds was the leading institutional contributor. The proportion of UK and non-university-affiliated lead authors declined, while the proportion of women authors and collaboration increased. More research-based articles are being published, about 55% of which use qualitative approaches, and 12% of which evaluate guidance and counselling interventions. In this study, we conducted a bibliometric and altmetric analysis of the top 100 most-cited articles on religion from 2010 to 2023. The data were sourced from the Web of Science Core Collection database. VOSviewer was utilized to create visualization knowledge maps such as co-authorship, co-citation, and keywords co-occurrence analysis, and the Spearman correlation analysis was performed to determine the relationships between the variables. The results indicate that these articles were published in 22 journals by 231 authors in 158 institutions across 24 countries. Most of the articles were published from the USA. Kenneth I. Pargament and Harold G. Koenig were identified as two of the most prominent scholars, while the Journal of Religion and Health and the Psychology of Religion and Spirituality emerged as the most productive and influential journals. The citations for these articles span a range of 45 to 828, whereas the altmetric attention scores (AAS) vary from 1 to 797. The Spearman correlation analysis revealed that the AAS is weakly positively correlated with the article influence score (AIS) ( r = 0.285 ) and weakly negatively correlated with the number of years since publication (NYsP) ( r = - 0.233 ), but is not significantly correlated with other bibliometric indicators; however, it is posited that the importance of the AAS may increase over time as the influence of social media continues to expand. Citizen science (CS) is an umbrella term for research with a significant amount of contributions from volunteers. Those volunteers can occupy a hybrid role, being both ‘researcher’ and ‘subject’ at the same time. This has repercussions for questions about responsibility and credit, e.g. pertaining to the issue of authorship. In this paper, we first review some existing guidelines for authorship and their applicability to CS. Second, we assess the claim that the guidelines from the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), known as ‘the Vancouver guidelines’, may lead to exclusion of deserving citizen scientists as authors. We maintain that the idea of including citizen scientists as authors is supported by at least two arguments: transparency and fairness. Third, we argue that it might be plausible to include groups as authors in CS. Fourth and finally, we offer a heuristic list of seven recommendations to be considered when deciding about whom to include as an author of a CS publication. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This investigation of four biographical narratives on the same person, all published since 2018 and inspired by the same epistolary corpus, demonstrates differences in authorial purpose and reader expectation across the ‘speculative spectrum’ of biographical interpretation. The subject, Elizabeth Macarthur, arrived in New South Wales in 1790. Two of the texts are works of historical scholarship, with apublishers’ classification non-fiction biography. The other two are published as novels. The authors’ differing purposes, their interpretations and their stylistic treatments of the same source material, provide an illustrative demonstration of the narrative functions of biography and biofiction. This essay examines the depiction of Elizabeth Macarthur’s life in the four texts to highlight the differences between scholarly biographies and biofictions from the perspective of their writing practices. It examines their use of speculation and literary devices and how these are signposted to the reader by evaluating the authors’ engagement with archival sources, their use of empathy and projection and their narrative techniques. While the concept of Bildung has acquired international currency in educational and philosophical studies, its moral implications have been obscured by existing educational accounts. I present the moral implications inherent in the term through specific reference to the early works of Wilhelm von Humboldt. In contrast to previous scholarships, where Humboldt's theory of Bildung has been deployed for drawing on the account of the true end of the human being and the inner process of interaction between the self and the world, I draw on Bildung as a moral conception of promoting a good life for others. To illustrate this conception, I (a) demonstrate the basic structure of Humboldt's theory of Bildung by examining its four core components, (b) reconstruct Humboldt's notion of virtue balanced state of various faculties as a moral ideal (c) consider Humboldt's philosophical historiography to illustrate how Bildung can be mediated at individual and collective levels, and (d) present the concrete forms of the obligation to promote the good lives of others in his anthropological writings. Neural networks are an indispensable model class for many complex learning tasks. Despite the popularity and importance of neural networks and many different established techniques from literature for stabilization and robustification of the training, the classical concepts from robust statistics have rarely been considered so far in the context of neural networks. Therefore, we adapt the notion of the regression breakdown point to regression neural networks and compute the breakdown point for different feed-forward network configurations and contamination settings. In an extensive simulation study, we compare the performance, measured by the out-of-sample loss, by a proxy of the breakdown rate and by the training steps, of non-robust and robust regression feed-forward neural networks in a plethora of different configurations. Subvertising is a communication phenomenon aimed at eliciting a response from citizens to advertising messages, and provides tools to fight back on a symbolic battleground. Within the current communication paradigm, subvertising stands as a form of empowerment for a better informed and more participatory active audience. Subvertising practices provide a communication response to a corporate discourse that is considered by many collectives to be manipulative and excessive in its omnipresence. Given that subvertising is such a practical phenomenon, it seems relevant to review what theoretical contributions have been made and determine the current state of research into the subject. This article presents a scoping review of publications on subvertising from 1980 through to March 2020, the main objective being to determine the intellectual output and evolution of existing research, with in-depth analysis of the texts and studies identified. The review process was carried out by searching 11 national and international databases, using 19 keywords selected in a preliminary narrative phase. The results show the evolution of existing literature by country of publication, language, document type, journal, authorship and document features. The conclusions reached indicate that the number of publications on the phenomenon of subvertising is on the rise, attracting interest from a wide range of disciplines, not solely those relating to communication. Introduction: Many papers reporting on QI projects are not publishable for a variety of reasons. We compared manuscripts submitted as QI reports between June 2014 and June 2016 (prior to publication of the revised Standards for Quality Improvement Reporting Excellence (SQUIRE 2.0) with papers submitted to the American Journal of Nursing between July 2016 and December 2022). The aim was to evaluate any changes in the quality of manuscripts and identify problems that led to rejection; we also compared the quality of students with non‐student submissions. Methods: We conducted a non‐randomized descriptive study to evaluate 349 papers submitted as QI project reports between June 2014 and December 2022 using screening templates based on the SQUIRE 2.0 checklist and findings of the INANE Working Group on Student Papers. Results: Manuscripts designated as QI reports accepted for publication increased from 4% during 2014–2016 (T1) to 14% during 2016–2022 (T2); one student submission was accepted. There was a slight decrease in submissions designated as QI that were not QI: 36% of student submissions during T1 and 31% of student submissions during T2. Among clinician submissions, 44% in T1 designated as QI reports were not QI versus 31% submitted during T2. There was a decrease in student submissions that followed the SQUIRE guidelines (36% during T1 to 24% during T2). Conclusions: Findings demonstrate that by following the SQUIRE 2.0 guidelines, authors submit more complete manuscripts with fewer missing components. However, there are still misconceptions about what constitutes QI versus research and how to report QI initiatives. After comparing the findings from both periods, it is noteworthy that there is essentially the same level of inaccuracy and lack of acceptable manuscripts. Clinical Relevance: Sharing findings from QI activities through presentations and publications is a vital way of helping spread the learnings from these projects and improve health care for a wider audience. Clinicians, academicians, and students must understand the elements of the SQUIRE guidelines and ensure that this framework is used for both designing and submitting QI projects for publication. Given the recent upsurge in publications investigating authentic leadership in education since 1997, this study was carried out to review scholarly publications on authentic leadership in educational research, drawing on a database of 91 studies published between 1997 and 2021. Descriptive methods were employed to identify the features of the related literature with respect to the volume of publication, journal and geographic distribution of the literature, types of studies, authorship trends, citation impact, measurement instruments, research methods, identified antecedents, mediators, moderators, and outcomes of authentic leadership in educational research. The results revealed that the published research consisted mostly of empirical studies. The analysis also revealed that more qualitative methods have been employed in recent years. Significant relationships were also found between authentic leadership and different outcomes (e.g. performance, satisfaction, trust in the leader). French screenwriters' precarity has been highlighted in a number of different ways in recent years, not least by their efforts to organise and publicise professional abuses. This article will consider the situation of writers and how these are often framed in relation to a cinematic culture rooted in what Jonathan Buchsbaum calls 'a certain idea of film [as] the art form of the twentieth century', an idea that engages with debates on quality as well as authorship. As will emerge, this is also an idea of cinema that many of the screenwriters in question contribute to and defend, even if its emphasis on the director-auteur has implications for their own position and visibility. The article will then turn to recent efforts on the part of French screenwriters working in different sectors of audio-visual and cinematic production to stand up against precarious employment conditions, inadequate remuneration, and what they have described as a systematic downplaying of their role and their work, which have successfully attracted attention from the media but also from professional bodies, notably the CNC. Background: Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a condition that affects many males. Physical therapy (PT) is the one potential treatment for ED that may improve blood flow, muscle strength, and other factors that may contribute to the issue. Data on the prevalence and trends of research on PT for ED are lacking. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the literature trends in PT for ED via bibliometric and visualized analysis. Methods: Data on publications were collected from Scopus covering the period between 1989 and 2022. To refine the data, bibliometric analyses were conducted using Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, an online visualization platform, and BiblioAnalytics. Power BI and Bibliomaster were used to generate figures and tables, while Biblioshiny and VOSviewer were used for visualization. Results: A total of 494 documents were identified. The year 2019 generated the largest number of publications, with a total of 54. These studies have received 12,917 citations related to PT for ED. The most common document type was the original article with 283 publications. The University of California, USA, was the most productive institution on this topic, with 21 publications and 2,035 citations. The USA led all countries with 114 publications on the topic. The Journal of Sexual Medicine secured the top ranking with an h‐index of 18. The main topics studied were erectile dysfunction, shockwave therapy, and physiotherapy. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the recurrence rate of cholesteatoma in patients who have undergone exclusive endoscopic tympanoplasty at our tertiary referral institution. A secondary objective is to analyze different clinical aspects that could be considered risk factors for recurrence to establish if it is possible to determine when a second-look procedure is indicated instead of a clinical follow-up. Methods: A retrospective study was performed on patients who had undergone exclusive endoscopic tympanoplasty for cholesteatoma in the last eight years and who were followed up for at least one year. The efficacy of the treatment performed only with the exclusive endoscopic technique was analyzed. Then, the anamnestic and intraoperative data were studied to identify possible factors that could increase the risk of recurrence. Results: The recurrence rate (14.5%) in patients (164) who underwent primary surgery with the exclusive endoscopic technique between January 2014 and January 2022 was similar to that in patients who underwent the microscopic technique with mastoidectomy in literature. In addition, we analyzed several clinical factors such as age, ossicular chain erosion, extension and localization of the cholesteatoma finding that only the last one could potentially be a risk factor for recurrence in this selected population. Conclusion: Exclusive endoscopic tympanoplasty has been shown to be effective in removing cholesteatoma in patients without evidence of mastoid involvement, with recurrence rates comparable to traditional microscopic technique and a minimally invasive approach, even considering the patient's age, ossicular chain erosion and extension of the disease. This special issue brings together several essays that celebrate the quadricentennial anniversary of the publication of Shakespeare's First Folio in 1623. Following on from the 2023 Law and Humanities roundtable, the articles in this special issue adopt an interdisciplinary stance and lie at the crossroads of law, literature, history, and performative arts, with the First Folio acting as a crucial driver. Objective To evaluate the reliability of three artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots (ChatGPT, Google Bard, and Chatsonic) in generating accurate references from existing obstetric literature. Study Design Between mid-March and late April 2023, ChatGPT, Google Bard, and Chatsonic were prompted to provide references for specific obstetrical randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published in 2020. RCTs were considered for inclusion if they were mentioned in a previous article that primarily evaluated RCTs published by the top medical and obstetrics and gynecology journals with the highest impact factors in 2020 as well as RCTs published in a new journal focused on publishing obstetric RCTs. The selection of the three AI models was based on their popularity, performance in natural language processing, and public availability. Data collection involved prompting the AI chatbots to provide references according to a standardized protocol. The primary evaluation metric was the accuracy of each AI model in correctly citing references, including authors, publication title, journal name, and digital object identifier (DOI). Statistical analysis was performed using a permutation test to compare the performance of the AI models. Results Among the 44 RCTs analyzed, Google Bard demonstrated the highest accuracy, correctly citing 13.6% of the requested RCTs, whereas ChatGPT and Chatsonic exhibited lower accuracy rates of 2.4 and 0%, respectively. Google Bard often substantially outperformed Chatsonic and ChatGPT in correctly citing the studied reference components. The majority of references from all AI models studied were noted to provide DOIs for unrelated studies or DOIs that do not exist. Conclusion To ensure the reliability of scientific information being disseminated, authors must exercise caution when utilizing AI for scientific writing and literature search. However, despite their limitations, collaborative partnerships between AI systems and researchers have the potential to drive synergistic advancements, leading to improved patient care and outcomes. Throughout her illustrious creative and scholarly career, which spanned over five decades, French-Guadeloupean writer Maryse Condé (1934-2024) earned a reputation as an iconoclast, a rebel disdainful of conventions and averse to simplistic formulas. A habitual provocateur, Condé reveled in her role as a rule-breaker, who challenged Negritude's masculinist discursive norms, and ushered in a paradigm shift in the prevailing vision of Africa as central to Caribbean cultural formation. This study examines the place of African diasporic literary traditions in La vie sans fards (2012). A confessional tale delivered in a taut, propulsive narrative brimming with equal amounts of tragic intensity and dramatic energy, the memoir traces Condé's eventful life in Africa in the turbulent decade of the sixties. I am especially interested in Condé's evocation of a vast array of African diasporic writers as inspirational in her own artistic development, and as crucial to the awakening of her diasporic vision. It is my contention that Condé's bold, radical departure from her earlier reactions vis-à-vis the African literary landscape demands attention. Purpose: The diversity of authors in orthopaedic literature is fundamental to the distribution of unique discoveries, innovations, and advancements. The purpose of the current study was to create and validate a comprehensive Author Diversity Scoring System (ADSS) to quantify authorship diversity in orthopaedic manuscripts. Methods: Six items were included in the initial ADSS. The ADSS and associated survey were sent to 120 experts to evaluate the clarity, simplicity, and relevancy its components. Responses were used to validate the ADSS using Content Validity Ratio (CVR) and Content Validity Index (CVI). Results: The initial ADSS contained author gender, ethnicity, academic rank/title, country of origin of the article, affiliated institution, and the publication history of the senior/corresponding author as representative items. Subsequently, 21 experts completed the survey (response rate 17.5%). Following validation, the final ADSS included author gender, ethnicity, and region of article origin, scored cumulatively on a 0–30 point scale with increasing scores indicating greater author diversity. Purpose: In this study, STEM resources reviewed in Goodreads were investigated to determine their authorship, linguistic characteristics and impact. The analysis reveals gender disparity favoring titles with male authors. Design/methodology/approach: This paper applies theoretical concepts of knowledge commons to understand how individuals leverage the affordances of the Goodreads platform to share their perceptions of STEM-related books. Findings: The analysis reveals gender disparity favoring titles with male authors. Female-authored STEM publications represent popular science nonfiction and juvenile genres. Analysis of the scholarly impact of the reviewed titles revealed that Google Scholar provides broader and more diverse coverage than Web of Science. Linguistic analysis of the reviews revealed the relatively low aesthetic disposition of reviewers with an emphasis on embodied experiences that emerged from the reading. Purpose: In this article, we explore how student authorship may be enhanced among learners in mathematics classrooms in a Hong Kong primary school through rich dialogue discourse. Design/Approach/Methods: Using qualitative methods, that is, coding and discourse analysis, we examine the relationship between student authorship and personal latitude through a case study of two Grade 4 mathematics lessons taught by two primary mathematics teachers, respectively. Findings: We discuss the study's findings in relation to how teachers can engage themselves and their students in dialogic discourse to offer student choices and opportunities and generate original voices. Originality/Value: Personal latitude was found when the students were given the choice to use their original voices. The Monsanto company – now acquired by Bayer – has been accused of ghostwriting articles within peer review literature, with the goal of using influential names to front its content in defence of the herbicide Roundup. Here, I conduct a detailed analysis of three Monsanto review articles and a five-article journal supplement for which detailed information from company emails is publicly available following litigation over Roundup. All the articles had external, but not Monsanto authors, and ghostly practices including ghost authorship, corporate ghost authorship and ghost management were evident in their development. There was clear evidence of ghostwriting – that is, drafting of the manuscript by non-authors – in only two cases. I found no evidence of undeserving authorship among the external authors. The articles complied with the disclosure requirements of their journals, save for the journal supplement. While crude ghostwriting did occur, much of the literature involved subtler practices through which Monsanto exercised control over content, while the attribution of the articles downplayed the company's role – and correspondingly aggrandized that of the external authors. Such practices are widespread within industry journal literature and are the responsibility of byline authors and journals as well as corporations. Background: While other otolaryngology subspecialties have established female authorship trends, there is no comprehensive study within head and neck surgery (HNS). Methods: Five researchers recorded the gender identity of first and senior authors from HNS subspecialty papers (head and neck oncology, endocrine surgery, salivary gland pathology, and microsurgery) derived from 10 journals in otolaryngology and oncology in the years 2013, 2016, 2019, and 2022. Results: From 3457 articles, 6901 unique author identities were analyzed. Female authors represented 32% (N = 1103) of first authors and 20% (N = 690) of senior authors. Female authors were less likely to publish in microvascular and reconstructive surgery. Senior female authors were more likely to publish in higher impact journals than male senior authors, and first female authors had an increased likelihood of funding compared to their male counterparts. Cryptanalysis of modern symmetric ciphers may be done by using linear equation systems with multiple right hand sides, which describe the encryption process. The tool was introduced by Raddum and Semaev (Des Codes Cryptogr 49(1):147–160, 2008) where several solving methods were developed. In this work, the probabilities are ascribed to the right hand sides and a statistical attack is then applied. The new approach is a multivariate generalisation of the correlation attack by Siegenthaler (IEEE Trans Comput C 49(1):81–85, 1985). A fast version of the attack is provided too. It may be viewed as an extension of the fast correlation attack in Meier and Staffelbach (J Cryptol 1(3):159–176, 1989), based on exploiting so called parity-checks for linear recurrences. Parity-checks are a particular case of the relations that we introduce in the present work. The notion of a relation is irrelevant to linear recurrences. We show how to apply the method to some LFSR-based stream ciphers including those from the Grain family. In forensic handwriting analysis, it is crucial to understand the relative frequencies of findings relevant to the specific author, especially when using statistical methods. However, if ad hoc writings are included in the comparison materials, the representation of a comparison writer's habits can be distorted. An overrepresentation of certain creation time points can be avoided by treating ad hoc series of comparison writing samples as internally homogeneous agglomerates, incorporating only a single value per series into the average relative frequency of a given finding for a comparison writer. Additionally, the proposed approach produces finding counts largely independent of the length of the handwriting sample, which has a positive impact on the efficiency and cost‐effectiveness of the expert evaluation. Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate global longitudinal publication trends in oncology in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR) from 2001-2020. Design: Retrospective bibliometric analysis. Primary and secondary outcome measures: The primary outcome measures were the numbers and percentages of women as first, last, and corresponding author across all CDSR oncology publications. Additional outcomes included authorship differences between countries and percentages of women authors over time compared using the Cochran-Armitage trend test. Results: In total, 548 articles were analyzed. Women were first authors in 52.26% (n=277) and corresponding authors in 50.75% (n=272), respectively. Women represented only 39.4% (n=210) of last authors, significantly less frequent than male counterparts (p < 0.001). The percentage of women last and corresponding authors has increased significantly in the past 20 years (p < 0.05). Countries such as the Netherlands and Australia consistently showed equitable representation in first, corresponding, and last authorship, while other countries such as Italy and China had uniformly low rates of female authorship. Coclusions: Our results highlight patterns of gender inequity in oncology publication authorship in the CDSR from 2001-2020 at a global level. Notably, women were less likely to serve in the last author position which, independent of assigned corresponding authorship, is generally assumed in academic oncology to designate the leader of a published study. Background: Depression is a common mental disorder in children and adolescents, with a global prevalence of approximately 33%, severely affecting their physical, mental health, and academic performance. This study aims to identify and assess the 100 most-cited articles (T100 articles) on depression in children and adolescents. Methods: The T100 articles in the field of depression were retrieved from the SCI-E and SSCI databases. A comprehensive analysis of the T100 articles was conducted, including the number of citations, countries, journals, keywords, authors, and topics. Results: Between 1981 and 2021, T100 articles in child and adolescent depression received 423 to 3949 citations. Most articles originated from the USA, with Kovacs M as the top-ranked author. The University of Pittsburgh and Columbia University published the top two T100 articles. The T100 articles were published in 36 journals, led by AMA Psychiatry. Co-occurrence keywords analyses reveal six key foci: Pathogenesis of Depression, Treatment of MDD in Children, Early Childhood Treatment, Adolescent Depression Manifestations, Gender and Depression, and Primary Care Considerations, with pathogenesis as a future trend. Conclusions: Our research presents an exhaustive list of the most highly cited articles on depression in children and adolescents. Our findings not only underscore the significance of international cooperation but also reveal a pressing need to prioritize and bolster preventive research, particularly the development and refinement of early screening and intervention programs. An inequity persists between women and men in nearly all scientific fields. A clear indicator of this bias is the disparity between women and men in authorship of scientific papers, as publications are a critical part of a researcher's career. Our objective was to describe gender equity (sensu women, men) in wildlife‐related publishing in recent decades. We reviewed all research articles published in The Journal of Wildlife Management (JWM) from 1999 through 2020 and collected author names, affiliated institutions, and study species taxa from each paper. To help understand representation by gender in publishing, we classified the gender of each author using the online tool Genderize.io. We then calculated the women‐to‐men ratio in publishing as first‐ and co‐authors across time. We further investigated whether there were biases by country, institution, and taxon of study species. Our results revealed that authorships were dominated by men 22 years ago, with 14 and 12 women/100 men for first‐ and co‐authorships, respectively, in 1999. Since then, apart from year‐to‐year fluctuations, the overall gap between women and men gradually narrowed until the mid‐2010s, reaching approximately 60 and 30 women/100 men for first‐ and co‐authorship, respectively. The percentage of women increased across institutions, taxa, and countries during the study; however, the percentages of women associated with each institution type and most wildlife taxa were lower than the percentages of men. Although it is encouraging to see the improvement in equity in publishing since 1999, there are still substantially more men publishing than women, which indicates there is still a need to remedy known barriers and identify additional barriers that contribute to publication inequity. This study analyzes the authorship characteristics of carbon footprint research published from 1992 to 2022. A total number of 13,004 papers indexed in Web of Science were examined by using bibliometric data collection techniques. Our sample presents a very collaborative pattern with most of the papers written by two or more authors (92.42%). The mean number of authorships per paper in this dataset was 4.16. The maximum number of authors for a single paper was 69 in the year 2019. However, the frequency distribution of scientific productivity in the field of carbon footprint research does not comply with Lotka's law, with fewer authors writing more than one research article than expected. This article intends to shed new light on the well-trodden theme of Englishness in The Remains of the Day by situating it within a cosmopolitan context. This article argues that this novel is not confined to the static concept of Englishness featuring butlerdom, the landed aristocracy, and the rural landscape, but exhibits how individuals react to an altered cosmopolitan milieu where Englishness falters and struggles to survive. Stevens's motor tour is exactly a personal response to cosmopolitanism in the 1950s in the form of American cultural colonisation. His six-day expedition creates anti-cosmopolitan discourses by summoning up the national landscape ideology represented by the interwar automobile pilgrimage and Romantic pedestrianism. However, such an ideology is ironically dependent on cosmopolitan touristic mobility and subtly laced with cosmopolitan pressure. Stevens's mobility is thus paradoxical, as it simultaneously affirms anti-cosmopolitan narratives and recognises the ubiquitous presence of cosmopolitan burdens. This article considers the novelistic production of Yucatec Maya writer Marisol Ceh Moo and her process of authorial construction as a decolonizing Indigenous cultural intervention. By analyzing the content and impact of her novel X-Teya, u puksi'ik'al ko'olel/Teya, un corazón de mujer (Teya, a Woman's Heart, 2009), this article elucidates how the adoption of a modern literary genre such as the novel and Indigenous authorial formation create a specific locus of enunciation that aligns with the resistance to cultural coloniality embedded in the heterogeneous Abiayala movement. Moreover, this research reveals the need to rethink the analytical categories that are part of the author theory when it comes to the study of contemporary Indigenous literatures in Latin America. Polyphonic sound event detection refers to the task of automatically identifying sound events occurring simultaneously in an auditory scene. Due to the inherent complexity and variability of real-world auditory scenes, building robust detectors for polyphonic sound event detection poses a significant challenge. The task becomes furthermore challenging without sufficient annotated data to develop sound event detection systems under a supervised learning regime. In this article, we explore the recent developments in polyphonic sound event detection, with a particular emphasis on the application of Teacher-Student techniques within the semi-supervised learning paradigm. Unlike previous works, we have consolidated and organized the fragmented literature on Teacher-Student techniques for polyphonic sound event detection. By examining the latest research, categorizing Teacher-Student approaches, and conducting an empirical study to assess the performance of each approach, this survey offers valuable insights and practical guidance for researchers and practitioners in the field.
