Simulations of photochemical reaction dynamics have been a challenge to the theoretical chemistry community for some time. In an effort to determine the predictive character of current approaches, we predict the results of an upcoming ultrafast diffraction experiment on the photodynamics of cyclobutanone after excitation to the lowest lying Rydberg state (S2). A picosecond of nonadiabatic dynamics is described with ab initio multiple spawning. We use both time dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) and equation-of-motion coupled cluster singles and doubles (EOM-CCSD) theory for the underlying electronic structure theory. We find that the lifetime of the S2 state is more than a picosecond (with both TDDFT and EOM-CCSD). The predicted ultrafast electron diffraction spectrum exhibits numerous structural features, but weak time dependence over the course of the simulations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The concept of physical literacy (PL) has witnessed enormous popularity in recent years and has undergone substantial theoretical evolvement during the last 2 decades. However, the research field pertaining to PL has not yet initiated discussions around the challenges of climate change and the alignment with conceptualizations of planetary health. Therefore, we argue that the consideration of an "ecological domain" for individual physical activity, in the form of ecological awareness, would further evolve the concept. We illustrate how to potentially integrate adjustments within the most frequent PL definitions of the field (eg, those in Australia, Canada, England, Ireland, the United States, or by the International Physical Literacy Association) without questioning the entire integrity of these elaborate conceptualizations. An ecological domain of PL would not only interact with the postulated physical, cognitive, psychological/affective, and social domains of PL but also have important implications for the (re)design of interventions and practices in physical activity contexts. Water ubiquitously exists with dissolved salt in both natural and engineered porous media, such as soil, rock, concrete, and tissue; therefore, its freezing temperature depression behavior is of particular interest to various scientific communities tackling with mechanics and physics of porous media. To date, it remains elusive which physical mechanism accounts for its freezing temperature depression and how dissolved ions affect it. Herein, a series of pore-scale experiments were designated to investigate the freezing temperature of salt solutions in tubes with varying pore diameters, pore solution volumes, solid–liquid interfacial areas, ion concentrations, and ion types. The results reveal two main findings: (i) the freezing temperature depression of pore solutions is governed by the heterogeneous ice nucleation (HIN) at the water–solid interface, as evidenced by the observation that the freezing temperature decreases with the decreasing solid–liquid interfacial areas, regardless of pore diameter and pore solution volume; (ii) the dissolved salts alter HIN processes via changing the osmotic potential across the ice embryo–liquid water interface, as indicated by the observation that the freezing temperature is mainly determined by the salt concentration irrespective of salt types. Furthermore, the classical nucleation theory model is adapted for the freezing behavior of pore solutions by including an osmotic potential term. The model shows excellent performance in capturing experimental data with various pore solution concentrations, further substantiating the HIN as the physical mechanism governing pore solution freezing. Data-driven interatomic potentials (IPs) trained on large collections of first principles calculations are rapidly becoming essential tools in the fields of computational materials science and chemistry for performing atomic-scale simulations. Despite this, apart from a few notable exceptions, there is a distinct lack of well-organized, public datasets in common formats available for use with IP development. This deficiency precludes the research community from implementing widespread benchmarking, which is essential for gaining insight into model performance and transferability, and also limits the development of more general, or even universal, IPs. To address this issue, we introduce the ColabFit Exchange, the first database providing open access to a large collection of systematically organized datasets from multiple domains that is especially designed for IP development. The ColabFit Exchange is publicly available at https://colabfit.org, providing a web-based interface for exploring, downloading, and contributing datasets. Composed of data collected from the literature or provided by community researchers, the ColabFit Exchange currently (September 2023) consists of 139 datasets spanning nearly 70 000 unique chemistries, and is intended to continuously grow. In addition to outlining the software framework used for constructing and accessing the ColabFit Exchange, we also provide analyses of the data, quantifying the diversity of the database and proposing metrics for assessing the relative diversity of multiple datasets. Finally, we demonstrate an end-to-end IP development pipeline, utilizing datasets from the ColabFit Exchange, fitting tools from the KLIFF software package, and validation tests provided by the OpenKIM framework. In the all-optical domain, the reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA) creates due attention in the research community because the RSOA has high gain, low-power consumption, high-speed signal processing ability as well as low noise performance. In this work, we have proposed dibit-based OR and NOR gates using RSOA. Dibit-based logic is utilized in this design to get the reduced bit-error problems and high degree of parallelism. Multimodal sentiment analysis has received widespread attention from the research community in recent years; it aims to use information from different modalities to predict sentiment polarity. However, the model architecture of most existing methods is fixed, and data can only flow along an established path, which leads to poor generalization of the model to different types of data. Furthermore, most methods explore only intra- or intermodal interactions and do not combine the two. In this paper, we propose the SmartRouting Attention Network (SmartRAN). SmartRAN can smartly select the data flow path on the basis of the smart routing attention module, effectively avoiding the disadvantages of poor adaptability and generalizability caused by a fixed model architecture. In addition, SmartRAN includes the learning process of both intra- and intermodal information, which can enhance the semantic consistency of comprehensive information and improve the learning ability of the model for complex relationships. Neuroimaging technologies such as brain–computer interfaces and neurofeedback have evolved rapidly as new tools for cognitive neuroscience and as potential clinical interventions. However, along with these developments, concern has grown based on the fear of the potential misuse of neurotechnology. In October 2021, Chile became the first country to include neurorights in its Constitution. The present article is divided into two parts. In the first section, we describe the path followed by neurorights that led to its inclusion in the Chilean Constitution, and the neurotechnologies usually involved in neurorights discussions. In the second part, we discuss two potential problems of neurorights. We begin by pointing out some epistemological concerns regarding neurorights, mainly referring to the ambiguity of the concepts used in neurolegislations, the difficult relationship between neuroscience and politics and the weak reasons for urgency in legislating. We then describe the dangers of overprotective laws in medical research, based on the detrimental effect of recent legislation in Chile and the potential risk posed by neurorights to the benefits of neuroscience development. This article aims to engage with the scientific community interested in neurotechnology and neurorights in an interdisciplinary reflection of the potential consequences of neurorights. I identify two versions of the scientific anti-realist's selectionist explanation for the success of science: Bas van Fraassen's original and K. Brad Wray's newer interpretation. In Wray's version, psycho-social factors internal to the scientific community – viz. scientists' interests, goals, and preferences – explain the theory-selection practices that explain theory-success. I argue that, if Wray's version were correct, then science should resemble art. In art, the artwork-selection practices that explain artwork-success appear faddish. They are prone to radical change over time. Theory-selection practices that explain theory-success in science are however not faddish. They are mostly stable; that is, long-lived and consistent over time. This is because scientists (explicitly or implicitly) subscribe to what I will call the testability norm: scientific theories must make falsifiable claims about the external physical world. The testability norm and not psycho-sociology explains the theory-selection practices that explain theory-success in science. Out-of-distribution (OOD) detection is critical to ensuring the reliability and safety of machine learning systems. For instance, in autonomous driving, we would like the driving system to issue an alert and hand over the control to humans when it detects unusual scenes or objects that it has never seen during training time and cannot make a safe decision. The term, OOD detection, first emerged in 2017 and since then has received increasing attention from the research community, leading to a plethora of methods developed, ranging from classification-based to density-based to distance-based ones. Meanwhile, several other problems, including anomaly detection (AD), novelty detection (ND), open set recognition (OSR), and outlier detection (OD), are closely related to OOD detection in terms of motivation and methodology. Despite common goals, these topics develop in isolation, and their subtle differences in definition and problem setting often confuse readers and practitioners. In this survey, we first present a unified framework called generalized OOD detection, which encompasses the five aforementioned problems, i.e.,AD, ND, OSR, OOD detection, and OD. Under our framework, these five problems can be seen as special cases or sub-tasks, and are easier to distinguish. Despite comprehensive surveys of related fields, the summarization of OOD detection methods remains incomplete and requires further advancement. This paper specifically addresses the gap in recent technical developments in the field of OOD detection. It also provides a comprehensive discussion of representative methods from other sub-tasks and how they relate to and inspire the development of OOD detection methods. PURPOSE: Over the past decade, significant surges in cancer data of all types have happened. To promote sharing and use of these rich data, the National Cancer Institute's Cancer Research Data Commons (CRDC) was developed as a cloud-based infrastructure that provides a large, comprehensive, and expanding collection of cancer data with tools for analysis. We conducted this scoping review of articles to provide an overview of how CRDC resources are being used by cancer researchers. METHODS: A thorough literature search was conducted to identify all relevant publications. We included publications that directly cited CRDC resources to specifically examine the impact and contributions of CRDC by itself. We summarized the distributions and trends of how CRDC components were used by the research community and discussed current research gaps and future opportunities. RESULTS: In terms of CRDC resources used by the research community, encouraging trends in utilization were observed, suggesting that CRDC has become an important building block for fostering a wide range of cancer research. We also noted a few areas where current applications are rather lacking and provided insights on how improvements can be made by CRDC and research community. CONCLUSION: CRDC, as the foundation of a National Cancer Data Ecosystem, will continue empowering the research community to effectively leverage cancer-related data, uncover novel strategies, and address the needs of patients with cancer, ultimately combatting this disease more effectively. As a leading global cause of musculoskeletal‐related disability, osteoarthritis (OA) represents a public health urgency. Understanding of disease pathogenesis has advanced substantially in the past decade, yet no disease‐modifying therapeutics have advanced to the clinic. To address this challenge, the CARE‐AP (Cartilage Repair strategies to alleviate Arthritis Pain) collaborative research team was convened to bring together relevant multidisciplinary expertise and perspectives from across the VA research community nationwide. The first CARE‐AP Annual Research Symposium took place (virtually) in February 2022 with roughly 90 participants. A number of innovative and therapeutic strategies were discussed, including siRNA approaches coupled with novel nanoparticle‐based delivery systems, cellular engineering approaches to develop reparative cells that can probe the joint environment and respond to disease‐specific cues, and novel biofabrication techniques to improve tissue engineering and effect "biological joint replacement." In addition, challenges and advances in rehabilitation approaches, imaging outcomes, and clinical studies were presented, which were integrated into a framework of recommendations for running "preclinical trials" to improve successful clinical translation. This study adopts a robust systematic literature review (SLR) to investigate the use of mobile devices to support learning (mobile learning) in university science education. It analyses 24 high quality studies over the past decade to generate insights into contemporary mobile learning developments in relation to settings, applications and pedagogical approaches, as well as trends in research methodologies and outcomes. The results show that the use of mobile devices is providing university science learners with peer learning opportunities and supporting their networked interactions with the science community and resources. However, the study also uncovers more constrained use of mobile devices associated with traditional didactic approaches, often in formal settings. The study identifies key differences from other SLR findings on mobile learning in school science education, most notably with respect to adopted pedagogies. The idea of scouting the sky in search of extra-terrestrial signals (SETI) was first proposed in the late 1950s; soon afterwards, its scope was formalised in the so-called Drake Equation, a probabilistic argument to gauge the number of 'civilisations' capable of radio communication on the basis of astronomical, biological and cultural factors. Since then, radio telescopes around the world have been searching for an artificial signal from elsewhere in the universe, a sign of extraterrestrial communication. How have SETI practitioners claimed scientific legitimacy and epistemic authority over the search for extra-terrestrial life, a matter often regarded to be at the very periphery of science? And how have they succeeded (or failed) in maintaining them over time? The historical trajectory of SETI offers the opportunity to investigate how, over time, an interdisciplinary community coalesced around a research repertoire and navigated ebbs and flows of interest by rearticulating the methods and scope of their research. The 'probability repertoire' around which the SETI community coalesced is an evolving entity, entailing significant boundary work. As with every successful repertoire, it is a flexible but always entailing a recognisable alignment of material, social and epistemic components instrumental for a research community in gaining recognition and negotiating its epistemic positioning within the always shifting boundaries of science. Introduction In the era of scientific digitalization, online media platforms gain increasing popularity to accomplish research output awareness. The Altmetric Attention Score AAS weights these online mentions based on a privy algorithm. We aimed to characterize the top 100 articles with the highest (AAS) published in pediatric surgery journals. Materials and Methods Publications from six core pediatric surgery journals were retrieved from in January 2023 and ranked by their AAS. The top 101 publications were analyzed for their bibliometric measures, study design, and quality as well as online media mentions. Results The top 101 AAS articles were published between 1974 and 2022, preferentially from the United States (64%) and mainly in Journal of Pediatric Surgery (73%), followed by Journal of Pediatric Surgery Case Report s, Pediatric Surgery International , Seminars in Pediatric Surgery , and European Journal of Pediatric Surgery. Their AAS ranged between 21 and 389 (median: 33), with Twitter/X being mostly responsible for online mentions (n = 2,189; 75%). The number of citations in peer-reviewed journals ranged between 0 and 358 (median: 16) and did not correlate to AAS. Retrospective study design (33%) with low evidence level IV (43%) dominated. Conclusion The Journal of Pediatric Surgery is the main source of high-profile AAS publications in pediatric surgery. The altmetric popularity of articles is predominantly achieved by their propagation via X, irrespective of the study quality and recognition in the scientific community. Now in its 25th year, the Mutant Mouse Resource and Research Center (MMRRC) consortium continues to serve the United States and international biomedical scientific community as a public repository and distribution archive of laboratory mouse models of human disease for research. Supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the MMRRC consists of 4 regionally distributed and dedicated vivaria, offices, and specialized laboratory facilities and an Informatics Coordination and Service Center (ICSC). The overarching purpose of the MMRRC is to facilitate groundbreaking biomedical research by offering an extensive repertoire of mutant mice that are essential for advancing the understanding of human physiology and disease. The function of the MMRRC is to identify, acquire, evaluate, characterize, cryopreserve, and distribute mutant mouse strains to qualified biomedical investigators around the nation and the globe. Mouse strains accepted from the research community are held to the highest scientific standards to optimize reproducibility and enhance scientific rigor and transparency. All submitted strains are thoroughly reviewed, documented, and validated using extensive scientific quality control measures. In addition, the MMRRC conducts resource-related research on cryopreservation, mouse genetics, environmental conditions, and other topics that enhance operations of the MMRRC. Today, the MMRRC maintains an archive of mice, cryopreserved embryos and sperm, embryonic stem (ES) cell lines, and murine hybridomas for nearly 65,000 alleles. Since its inception, the MMRRC has fulfilled more than 20,000 orders from 13,651 scientists at 8441 institutions worldwide. The MMRRC also provides numerous services to assist researchers, including scientific consultation, technical assistance, genetic assays, microbiome analysis, analytical phenotyping, pathology, cryorecovery, husbandry, breeding and colony management, infectious disease surveillance, and disease modeling. Since the inception of volunteered geographic information in 2007, this area of study has seen a proliferation of terms and concepts representing diverse forms of user-generated geographic data and systems. Despite the rich development of VGI (volunteered geographic information) in geography, recent trends indicate a disjointed research field. This progress report critically examines the trajectory of VGI, mapping its journey from an emergent set of practices to a fragmented research domain. Wireless Sensor Networks have become an integral part of our lives with the advancement in the field of Internet of Technology. Multiple sensors operate together in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) to collect data and communicate wirelessly with one another. For each sensor node's data collection to be useful, it is essential to explore precise localization technology for WSNs. DV-Hop, as an easily implementable range-free localization algorithm, has gained significant popularity in the research community. As a result, many enhanced DV-Hop variations have been put out in the literature. However, the challenges of poor location accuracy associated with DV-Hop continue to spark interest among researchers, leading to further investigations and making it a preferred area for research in localization algorithms. Research in this paper proposes an improved version of three-dimensional DV-Hop algorithm based on improved adaptive differential evolution (3D-IADE DV-Hop). The proposed method optimizes the estimated coordinates using an improved version of adaptive differential evolution by controlling offspring generation behaviour. Moreover, we have demonstrated the superiority of 3D-IADE DV-Hop compared to other algorithms under consideration. The black gram is a traditional pulse crop and is a source of different nutritional components. Due to the scientific community's preference for yield and its components, the area of nutritional composition remains unexplored. Therefore, the evaluation of various quality traits such as proximate composition, cooking quality, texture profile, and association between them is keen important for the identification of the traits influencing the selection of the genotypes. This research aimed at the evaluation of the 25 black gram genotypes for their proximate composition, the effect of different cooking methods (conventional and microwave) on cooking quality parameters, and texture profile analysis. The genotypes were screened on 17 parameters, mean and replicated value of each variable were subjected to statistical analysis. The results for proximate composition showed the range from 11.2–11.7%, 24.24–28.22%, 1.25–1.85%, 3.10–4.45%, 5.35–6.60%, 60.23–64.86% and 368.35-372.75 Kcal/100 g for moisture, protein, fat, dietary fiber, ash, utilizable carbohydrate, and gross energy respectively. Cooking time ranged from 33 to 55.5 min (traditional) to 29.5–48.5 min (microwave), L: B ratio from 1.35 to 1.85, WUR from 1.85 to 2.60, and GSL from 0.25 to 11.30%. TPA's cohesiveness, gumminess, and chewiness ranged from 0.19 to 1.44 N, 0.14–1.30 N, 0.58–3.67 N, 1.14–10.81 N, and 0.58–5.29; 1.16–10.50 N in traditional and microwave cooking. Chewiness, gumminess, protein, ash, and cooking time were positively correlated. The first seven PCs have ≥ 1 eigenvalues, accounting for 23.30, 18.00, 13.50, 9.50, 7.40, 6.70%, and 6.40% of total variability. Mandi-2, Kinnour-1, Kirmour-1, Kangra-2, Bilaspur-1, Kangra-3, Kullu-1, Kullu-4, Chamba-3, and Chamba-7 to PCs 1–2 contributed the most to diversity, indicating good selection for subsequent upgrading initiatives. One such transformative concept, the digital thread, has emerged as an important paradigm. While the digital thread has garnered increasing attention within both the research community and industrial enterprises, there remains a notable lack of standardization concerning its utilization and applications. This comprehensive literature review aims to explore the role of the digital thread in manufacturing within the context of the product lifecycle. As a result, this review synthesizes insights into the technologies, roles, and functions of the digital thread throughout the product lifecycle. Furthermore, it proposes a structured framework designed to impart a standardized perspective of the digital thread's relevance within the manufacturing product lifecycle. Many new opportunities surround rare pediatric disease drug development, thanks to key advances in regulatory thinking and in the scientific community. As rare disease drug development brings challenges to the developers in terms of limited understanding of natural history, heterogeneity in drug response, as well as difficulty recruiting patients in pivotal trials, there has never been a greater need for quantitative integration. To understand how International Consortium for Innovation and Quality in Pharmaceutical Development (IQ) member companies approach pediatric rare disease drug development, the rare pediatric subteam of the Clinical Pharmacology Leadership Group (CPLG) sponsored Pediatrics Working Group conducted a baseline survey to assess the four main pillars of this quantitative innovation, namely, biomarkers and surrogate end points, statistical methodologies, model‐informed drug development, as well as public–private partnerships. The survey was administered by IQ and yielded 13 evaluable responders from represented companies. This article presents the key findings from this baseline identifying survey, highlighting the key blind spots, and providing insightful expert opinions to address those gaps. In summary, we call an urgent attention to the community on the opportunities to enhance integration and within‐industry learnings from this analysis on aspects related to platform studies, end‐to‐end quantitative integration, and sharing of trial‐level placebo data for better understanding of disease progression and more efficient trial designs. We collectively hope that these findings will stimulate discussion and debate around cross‐industry sharing and collaboration to better delineate principles and further enhance the efficiency of rare pediatric disease drug development. Multiprincipal Element Alloys (MPEAs) represent a new category of metallic alloys that stand out for exclusively containing solute elements in equiatomic/nearly equiatomic proportions in their composition. Due to their remarkable mechanical properties, these alloys have garnered significant interest within the scientific community. However, one of the major challenges associated with these alloys is their industrial-scale production. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate production and processing routes for obtaining MPEAs on an upscale, i.e., with masses on the order of several kilograms. To achieve this goal, we produced the Cr40Co30Ni30 alloy (at. pct) using a vacuum induction furnace (VIM), resulting in ~ 50-kg ingots. Subsequently, the samples underwent hot forging and rolling processes, followed by analyses of composition and inclusion formation. The presence of Cr and Al oxide inclusions in the samples was observed in both samples. The composition remained homogeneous throughout the ingot's cross-section. However, the forging process proved ineffective and resulted in several cracks during the procedure. On the other hand, hot rolling proved a more viable process, also promoting dynamic recrystallization, although crack formations also occurred. The article highlights the issue of classification of the concepts of state sovereignty, which is of key importance in ensuring peaceful and equal coexistence of states. It has been established that the most expedient is the classification of ideas about state sovereignty precisely at the stage of its formation and formation in the political life of European states in the late Middle Ages and Modern Age according to the criterion of its absoluteness and relativity. It is found that even given the widespread prevalence of these competing ideas, unity on the main provisions of each of them has not been achieved. Based on the idea of the possibility of limiting the state’s sovereignty, which has long been very popular, it was found that representatives of the scientific community within the period under study were divided according to this criterion into: supporters of the concept of absolute sovereignty, who denied any possibility of limiting sovereignty, considering it unacceptable; supporters of the concept of absolute sovereignty, who allowed certain restrictions; supporters of the concept of relative sovereignty, who declared certain restrictions on sovereignty; supporters of the concept of relative sovereignty, who stated the existence of the possibility of transferring part of sovereignty to interstate entities. In general, the essence of the idea of absolute sovereignty is seen in the unlimited or almost unlimited power of the sovereign, who is not responsible for his or her actions. It is stated that such ideas are the basis for the interpretation of the content of sovereignty by authoritarian and totalitarian states. At the same time, the evidence that the category of sovereignty is viewed through the prism of democracy is the promotion of the ideas of the European space unity, consolidation of the concepts of external and internal limitations of the state, which emphasizes the readiness of states to sacrifice for the common good – peaceful coexistence on the basis of equality, justice and humanism. Thus, this classification helps to establish the historical foundations of different interpretations of the content of sovereignty by the states of competing legal systems and allows to form a conceptual framework for the idea of state sovereignty at the stage of its approval in the international legal system. Herein, we report a novel and powerful approach developed to lower the manufacturing costs of PSCs and make them powerful and cost-effective technology through identifying more efficient and low-cost dopant-free hole-transport materials (HTMs) for PSCs by avoiding the shotgun approach of synthesizing hundreds or thousands of HTMs, fabricate devices and characterize them to identify the best performing candidate(s). With these in mind, the primary objective of this study is to develop a machine learning model extracted from automated-quantitative structure–property relationship (autoQSPR) models that could accurately predict various photovoltaic properties, including power conversion efficiency (PCE), open-circuit photovoltage (VOC), and short-circuit photocurrent (JSC), of dopant-free HTM-based PSCs. High-efficacy AutoQSPR models capable of accurately predicting photovoltaic properties were developed by considering experimental photovoltaic property data sets from dopant-free HTMs used in the fabrication of PSCs with different architectures, e.g., conventional (n–i–p) and inverted (p–i–n), which are fabricated using methyl ammonium lead halides (MALHs) or mixed cation lead halides, were used to develop high efficacy autoQSPR models capable of accurate predictions of photovoltaic properties. The Schrodinger Suite was utilized to build autoQSPR models to predict PCE, VOC, and JSC utilizing different kinds of molecular descriptors such as 2D binary fingerprints, one dimensional (1D), two dimensional (2D), and three dimensional (3D). Notably, 2D binary fingerprint descriptors generate models that outperform 1D, 2D, and 3D molecular descriptors calculated using the well-known PaDEL calculator. The developed autoQSPR models were improved when the PSC configurations were considered and a significant predictive ability (test set Q2 > 0.5) was achieved for all autoQSPR models that involved the use of 2D binary fingerprint descriptors. The model confidence was validated by the utilization of dopant-free HTMs that were not present in the original dataset used to build the models. Although a substantial proportion of psychological research focuses on the topic of ableism in schools, there is limited use of qualitative methodology, with no instances employing the story stem completion method. There is a scarcity of academic literature discussing best practice of research conducted (a) with children, (b) within school settings, or (c) addressing ableism and disability-based prejudice. This paper fills this gap via sharing insights gained from our research. We collected qualitative data through story stem completion tasks to explore perceptions and discourse surrounding disability among N = 195 children aged 5–11 years in the UK. We explain and critically assess our research decisions, including the creation of story stems, remote and indirect engagement with pupils and school staff, and our data collection methods. We highlight the array of choices available to researchers, emphasize the importance of further dialogue within the research community, and advocate for evidence-based best practices in this research area. The Water–Energy–Food (WEF) nexus is defined in modern societies through a complex interaction of trade, transportation of goods, energy generation technologies and many other parameters. However the dynamics of the WEF nexus are often ignored by technical and scientific communities. The systemic nature of the WEF nexus emphasizes the various interconnections between water, energy, and food, promoting the adoption of a holistic approach, in which the interlinkages highlight synergies and trade-offs and lead to more successful resource management. In contemporary times resources seem abundant as shortages are easily covered by trade and therefore land is often used without evaluating where it could be more productive and potential dangers to the stability of the WEF can be neglected. In this work, the dynamics of the WEF nexus are investigated, evaluating the efficiency of land in relation to the elements of the nexus. As a case study, we chose North Euboea, Greece, specifically focusing on the Municipality of Mantoudi-Limni-Agia Anna. Although the WEF nexus has been increasingly studied, few works have particularly focused on how ecosystem changes disrupt the interlinkages between the nexus components. This study addresses this gap by focusing on the effects of biodiversity alterations (specifically wild boars) on the WEF nexus in a rural Mediterranean context. We explored land use patterns, energy needs, and water requirements for inhabitants, agriculture and livestock for food production, under several assumptions. It is found that if land was used solely for energy production, the energy generated would suffice for the energy consumption of 200,000 inhabitants. The potential of land use for food production on the other hand is corresponding to the food needs of 200,000–300,000 inhabitants. Lastly, as an investigation of the sensitivity of the WEF nexus to environmental stresses, we create a model for the potential impact from the expansion of the local wild-boar population that has been identified as an emerging stress for the local agricultural sector, with potential of diminishing local agricultural production within a few years. Background: To identify and to summarize challenges related to the informed consent process for research completed during humanitarian emergencies. Methods: Using relevant search terms, a search of 5 databases was completed, without language, date, or study type restriction. Studies were screened for inclusion, with eligible studies being those that were relevant to the informed consent process for research studies completed in humanitarian emergencies. A Grounded Theory Analysis was completed to identify themes and subthemes. Results: Review identified 30 relevant studies. We identified 11 challenges (lack of trust, therapeutic misconception, reduced capacity, security and privacy concerns, harmful research, power differential, literacy, language/local and cultural context, researcher burden and re-evaluation of ongoing trials) and 7 strategies (engage local research communities, use alternative to standard written consent process, modify traditional process of research ethics board review, dynamic consent, training of research staff, mandating transparency of commercial interests, and mandating reporting of informed consent process in all publications) to confront the challenges. These challenges and strategies were unique to the informed consent process in research conducted during humanitarian emergencies. Conclusions: This scoping review identified an evidence-based guide for researchers and research ethics boards to perform ethical informed consent procedures in humanitarian emergencies. Extratropical cyclones (ETCs) are the focus of many open questions, spanning from weather to climate and from local to global scales. The relationship between moisture uptake and precipitation over different mesoscale ETC structures remains poorly understood. The availability of moisture parameters to the scientific community through tracer dispersion models benefits the representation of the processes involving moisture, the dynamics of ETCs and the understanding of the associated meteorological fields. In this study, we present a database for North Atlantic ETC tracks and a Lagrangian-Derived Moisture Uptake Dataset, both of which are derived from dynamically downscaled ERA5 reanalysis data. We provide moisture parameters such as the total moisture uptake and its vertical distribution by layer, and shapefiles of ETC structures, to facilitate further studies in this area. Our data have been thoroughly validated to ensure that the storm tracks and their characteristics are accurately represented in the model without distortion. Striving to build an exhaustive guidebook of the types and properties of human cells, the Human Cell Atlas' (HCA) success relies on the sampling of diverse populations, developmental stages, and tissue types. Its open science philosophy preconizes the rapid, seamless sharing of data – as openly as possible. In light of the scope and ambition of such an international initiative, the HCA Ethics Working Group (EWG) has been working to build a solid foundation to address the complexities of data collection and sharing as part of Atlas development. Indeed, a particular challenge of the HCA is the diversity of sampling scenarios (e.g., living participants, deceased donors, pediatric populations, culturally diverse backgrounds, tissues from various developmental stages, etc.), and associated ethical and legal norms, which vary across countries contributing to the effort. Hence, to the extent possible, the EWG set out to provide harmonised, international and interoperable policies and tools, to guide its research community. This paper provides a high-level overview of the types of challenges and approaches proposed by the EWG. The human cell atlas (HCA) is intended as an exhaustive guidebook of human cell types and their properties. The Danish Reproducibility Network (DKRN) is a grassroots initiative for establishing a peer-supportive reproducibility-focused academic network in Denmark. We modelled our approach on already existing national Reproducibility Networks. We consulted with researchers and research support professionals to identify the needs of the research community. Three themes emerged around policy implementation, training and the appropriate application of reproducible practices. The network aims to address these three themes in a strategic plan, which harnesses the benefits of grassroots initiatives. The mission of the DKRN is therefore to facilitate communication, peer-support, and the exchange of ideas through a network of topic and geographical nodes. The network is open to researchers and research support professionals from all career stages and disciplines. Background: Family caregivers of people with dementia are a distinct group due to the particularly stressful and time-intensive care situation at home. Despite these challenges, involving them in research is crucial to better understand and address their specific needs. However, little evidence exists regarding a tailored approach for researchers for this group considering their situation at home. Methods: A scoping review will be conducted following the Joanna Briggs Institute methodological guidance, including the databases MEDLINE (PubMed), CINAHL, Scopus (Elsevier), and PsycINFO (EBSCO). The review will include family caregivers of people with dementia, regardless of age, gender, or ethnicity, who have been actively involved in research throughout the research process. Moreover, sources of evidence from any country in both English and German are eligible for inclusion. Sources will be screened by two independent reviewers. Results will be extracted using a tailored charting tool and presented in the final report according to the research questions and objectives. Discussion: Developing a tailored approach to involve family caregivers of people with dementia in research and development has profound importance to both the scientific community and the target group itself. The direct conversion of syngas into hydrocarbons, catalyzed by a combination of metal oxide and acidic zeolite, has garnered increasing attention in the scientific community. The remarkable hydrocarbon selectivity achieved in the OX‐ZEO process is a key factor in this growing interest. This process involves two distinct steps: CO activation over the oxide and subsequent C−C coupling within the zeolite pores, connected by an unidentified oxygenate intermediate. In this study, we explored three proposed oxygenates as potential intermediates and compared their conversion within the OX‐ZEO process. Using a bifunctional ZnCr2O4/H‐MOR catalyst in a syngas‐fed batch reactor, we found that methanol (MeOH) and dimethyl ether (DME) produced a hydrocarbon distribution similar to syngas conversion. However, the conversion of acetic acid (AcOH) resulted in a notably distinct range of hydrocarbons, including short olefins not detected with other reagents. Our findings suggest that methanol/DME might serve as active intermediates in the OX‐ZEO process over the ZnCr2O4/H‐MOR catalyst. This study provides a deeper insight into the transformation of proposed intermediates, contributing to the identification of the bridging intermediate that links the two catalytic functions. Following Moore's law, the performance of devices should double within a two‐year span, which can either be done by reducing the size of the individual components or adapting the working mechanism. In most cases the same mantra applies – pushing the size while keeping the quality. As manufacturing techniques are approaching the atomic scale, however, miniaturization reaches its intrinsic limit, shifting focus toward higher‐dimensional architectures realized by stacking planar layers or fabricating true, free‐standing nanostructures. A mask‐less, additive manufacturing technique with the capability to produce such 3D structures at the nanoscale is called Focused Electron Beam Induced Deposition (FEBID). Applying a focused electron beam in a conventional scanning electron microscope together with a gaseous metal‐precursor gives access to a vast library of complex, 3D nanostructures, which exhibit feature sizes down to the 10 nm‐range and can be printed in a single step on most substrates. This review aims at introducing the technique to a broader scientific community, breaking down the most important processing routes and highlighting disciplines explored so far ranging from nanooptics and nanomagnetism, over scanning probes and field emitters to sensing and particle trapping. AbstractThe study of olfaction in Drosophila melanogaster has greatly benefited from genetic reagents such as olfactory receptor mutant lines and GAL4 reporter lines. The CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing system has been increasingly used to create null receptor mutants or replace coding regions with GAL4 reporters. To further expand this toolkit for manipulating fly olfactory receptor neurons (ORNs), we generated null alleles for 11 different olfactory receptors by using CRISPR/Cas9 to knock in LexA drivers, including multiple lines for receptors which have thus far lacked knock-in mutants. The targeted neuronal types represent a broad range of antennal ORNs from all four morphological sensillum classes. Additionally, we confirmed their loss-of-function phenotypes, assessed receptor haploinsufficiency, and evaluated the specificity of the LexA knock-in drivers. Fraud and sexual harassment have been haunting academia for years. While the scientific community proposed strategies to overcome misconduct in research, the problem of sexual harassment seems unresolved. One reason for this might be a difference between men and women in the perception of the moral character and competence of sexual harassers. Across four studies (N = 3776), in the UK and the US, men judged the sexual harasser as less immoral than women (Studies 1, 2, and 3a), even though sexual harassment was considered more harmful than fraud (Study 2). Consequently, men demanded less punishment for sexual harassers than women (Studies 1 and 2). This gender difference was not explained by moral rationalization (Study 3a). Further, a sexual harasser was judged as more competent than a fraudster but in an academic, not business, context (Studies 1 and 2). This effect was driven by the moral decoupling process, which participants used to separate competence judgments from moral judgments (Study 3b). Overall, these results suggest that in the academic context, gender interests most likely shape moral and punishment judgments towards sexual harassers, while the decoupling process allows both genders to perceive them as competent and immoral at the same time. Recently an extensive growth in the market for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs, drones) has been observed. Because of numerous advantages, their application in various areas is wide, starting with military, through civilian -- specialized up to amateur. The world market for civilian commercial drones in the year 2022 has achieved a value of more than USD 30 billion, and it is estimated that by 2032 it will have achieved USD 125 billion. Great expectations of reduction of world CO2 emissions and development of clean economy are linked with drones application in transportation and agriculture. Unfortunately, despite of the UAV -- related advantages mentioned above, the problem of their comprehensive recycling seems to remain unseen. Actions aimed at recycling lithium-ion batteries used in drones have been taken, whereas the challenge of recycling the construction materials applied in UAVs seems to be ignored, which, taking into consideration the estimated growth of the UAV market and a relatively short product lifecycle, may constitute a significant ecological problem in the near future. The aim of this article is to draw attention of scientific community to the crucial but unnoticed problem, which UAV recycling will become in the near future. The authors tried to assess the extent of drones recycling problem by review of UAVs market, emphasizing the most common construction materials applied in their production, and to outline the issues related to their recycling. Purpose: Business schools play a significant role in providing individuals with the ability to adapt to constantly changing environments. Such agile organizations require deans who, as leaders, possess the knowledge and attributes of astute and responsible executives. In this regard, the measurement of the attributes of leadership paves the way for evaluating a leader's options process. In this study, we measure the attributes of leadership to pave the way for evaluating a leader's decision-making process. Design/methodology/approach: The rich data included the opinions of 93 university professors from seven countries: Iran, India, China, France, the UK, Canada and the USA. In appraising the responses, the authors considered the nationality and the development level of each participant's country and continent. In this study, the authors developed an online questionnaire based on the best-worst method (BWM). By performing a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), the authors also determined the significant statistical differences of the scientific communities through the lenses of authentic leadership, leader-member exchange and social identity and leadership. Findings: The results provide evidence of transparency, measured as the most important criterion for leading a business school, i.e. knowledgeable deanship. Furthermore, the findings reveal a meaningful difference between developed and developing countries in the context of an authentic leadership pillar. Industrial chemical producers and formulators are increasingly conscious of their responsibility in stewarding planetary resources and minimizing harm to the environment. In 2019, the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) engaged an industry task force from across the value chain to drive technical research to classify a new class of polymer—polymers in liquid formulation (PLFs). Building on this, the task force called for step change in sustainability practices for PLFs and instigated a design and development process to identify research themes and priorities that could accelerate innovation in this area. However, a key challenge was that as a novel classification, PLFs were largely unknown outside the chemistry community and entirely absent from the mainstream research agenda. To establish the demand-pull requirements of the value chain for sustainable PLFs, the RSC used a 'mission-oriented' innovation framework to enable the taskforce to co-design an ideal-type portfolio of research and innovation projects, and to set out a realistic roadmap for transition. This perspective article presents a summary of the activities carried out by the task force in its pursuit of mission-oriented innovation for PLFs and describes the strategic design method used to enable cross-value chain consensus on action for PLF sustainability, build system-wide innovation ecosystems and explore common-good scenarios.
