To elucidate the progression of COPD, we performed a cluster analysis using the following DPM parameters: normal (DPMNormal), gas-trapping (DPMGasTrap), and emphysematous lesions (DPMEmph). Our findings revealed the characteristics of each cluster and the 3-year disease progression using imaging parameters.Patients and Methods: Inspiratory and expiratory chest computed tomography (CT) images of 131 patients with COPD were examined, of which 84 were followed up for 3 years. The percentage of low attenuation volume (LAV%) and the square root of the wall area of a hypothetical airway with an internal perimeter of 10 mm (√Aaw at Pi10) were quantitatively measured using inspiratory chest CT. A hierarchical cluster analysis was performed using the DPM parameters at baseline. Five clusters were named according to the dominant DPM parameters: normal (NL), normal-GasTrap (NL-GT), GasTrap (GT), GasTrap-Emphysema (GT-EM), and Emphysema (EM).Results: Women were predominantly diagnosed with GT. Forced expiratory volume in 1 s gradually decreased in the following order: NL, NL-GT, GT, GT-EM, and EM. DPMEmph correlated well with LAV%. Four clusters other than NL showed significantly higher values of √Aaw at Pi10 than NL; however, no significant differences were observed among them. In all clusters, DPMEmph increased after 3 years. DPMNormal only increased in the GT cluster.Conclusion: Clusters using DPM parameters may reflect the characteristics of COPD and help understand the pathophysiology of the disease.Keywords: cluster analysis, computed tomography, COPD, DPM, gas-trapping, emphysema

A major goal of the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) is to make accurate images with resolutions of tens of milliarcseconds, which at submillimeter (submm) wavelengths requires baselines up to ~15 km. To develop and test this capability, a Long Baseline Campaign (LBC) was carried out from September to late November 2014, culminating in end-to-end observations, calibrations, and imaging of selected Science Verification (SV) targets. This paper presents an overview of the campaign and its main results, including an investigation of the short-term coherence properties and systematic phase errors over the long baselines at the ALMA site, a summary of the SV targets and observations, and recommendations for science observing strategies at long baselines. Deep ALMA images of the quasar 3C138 at 97 and 241 GHz are also compared to VLA 43 GHz results, demonstrating an agreement at a level of a few percent. As a result of the extensive program of LBC testing, the highly successful SV imaging at long baselines achieved angular resolutions as fine as 19 mas at ~350 GHz. Objectives ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) can affect all age groups. We aimed to show that differences in disease presentation and 6 month outcome between younger- and older-onset patients are still incompletely understood. Methods We included patients enrolled in the Diagnostic and Classification Criteria for Primary Systemic Vasculitis (DCVAS) study between October 2010 and January 2017 with a diagnosis of AAV. We divided the population according to age at diagnosis: Results A total of 1338 patients with AAV were included: 66% had disease onset at Conclusion Within 6 months of diagnosis of AAV, patients >65 years of age display a different pattern of organ involvement and an increased risk of significant damage and mortality compared with younger patients.

3 Sn superconducting wires are under consideration for producing high field accelerator magnets for the proposed Future Circular Collider (FCC) due to their high critical field. R&D studies are ongoing worldwide with a target non-Cu critical current density (Jc ) of 1500 A/mm2 at 4.2 K, 16 T. As an accomplishment of this R&D, one of the conductor manufacturers, JASTEC, has developed Nb3 Sn wires with non-Cu Jc higher than 1100 A/mm2 at 16 T, 4.2 K by a distributed-tin (DT) method. In high field Nb3 Sn magnets, degradation of performance has been frequently reported due to the brittleness of Nb3 Sn and the high electromagnetic force. To realize more robust Nb3 Sn accelerator magnets, electro-mechanical properties of the conductors should be deeply understood. In this study, the variation of the critical current with mechanical loading is evaluated for a DT Nb3 Sn wire in two configurations, i.e., under axial strain and under transverse compression.- Published

Chemical modifications of histones, such as lysine acetylation and ubiquitination, play pivotal roles in epigenetic regulation of gene expression. Methods to alter the epigenome thus hold promise as tools for elucidating epigenetic mechanisms and as therapeutics. However, an entirely chemical method to introduce histone modifications in living cells without genetic manipulation is unprecedented. Here, we developed a chemical catalyst, PEG-LANA-DSSMe 11, that binds with nucleosome’s acidic patch and promotes regioselective, synthetic histone acetylation at H2BK120 in living cells. The size of polyethylene glycol in the catalyst was a critical determinant for its in-cell metabolic stability, binding affinity to histones, and high activity. The synthetic acetylation promoted by 11 without genetic manipulation competed with and suppressed physiological H2B ubiquitination, a mark regulating chromatin functions, such as transcription and DNA damage response. Thus, the chemical catalyst will be a useful tool to manipulate epigenome for unraveling epigenetic mechanisms in living cells.
