Background: Despite growing interest in the experiences and social barriers experienced by people with intellectual disabilities from ethnic minorities, the specific challenges associated with migration from abroad faced by these individuals and their families have been overlooked. This research focuses on narratives told by Turkish-speaking families about migrating to the UK with a family member with intellectual disabilities. Method: Semi-structured interviews were carried out with five Turkish-speaking families who have a son or daughter with an intellectual disability and had migrated to the UK. Interviews were analysed using narrative analysis. Results: Seeking help for the person with intellectual disabilities in a new country was a central part of migration narratives. The family member with intellectual disabilities was described as being caught up in wider geo-political conflicts. Families continued to face challenges within their own communities and with accessing local services. Conclusions: Eliciting narratives about families' migration to their new homes can provide professionals with important information about family experiences of trauma and clarify hopes and expectations regarding service provision.

Harmful sexual behaviour that occurs between siblings (HSB-S) is thought to be one of the most common forms of intrafamilial abuse. Despite an increase in academic papers, and acknowledgement of the prevalence of the problem, there is still a lack of specific assessment and intervention models. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview on the Assessment, Intervention and Moving On (AIM) HSB-S Practice Guidance. The framework draws on the literature and evidence-based models, as well as clinical practice illustrated by the four-case series summarised. Of the four-case series illustrated in the paper positive outcomes were observed. In addition, the intervention includes the practitioner guiding the family to write a structured narrative which supports them to restore family relationships and find a way of moving forward. This guidance will strengthen practitioner's skills and confidence in working with families impacted by HSB-S and provide hope for them that they can heal from this crisis. This paper provides a preview for the AIM HSB-S Practice Guidance illustrated by a case series. Some suggest the ethos of the Tree of Life (ToL) group aligns with the concept of "personal-recovery" promoted in mental health policy. Thus, it is claimed that the group could be a useful approach within UK mental health services. This review collated 14 papers to explore whether existing literature regarding the ToL group supports this assertion. The papers were synthesized using the thematic analysis method and three broad themes were identified, which support the argument for its utility within services. These were recovery-aligned themes, the inclusivity of the model, and group processes relevant to mental health contexts. The papers are critically appraised, key concerns regarding the wider literature discussed, and clinical implications summarized. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study explores an innovative pilot group combining cognitive behavioral therapy and narrative therapy specifically utilizing the Tree of Life tool. Six participants with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder took part in this pilot group, which met over eight weekly sessions. Qualitative data were obtained through a focus group. Four themes were identified using thematic analysis from the focus group: social support and hope, the tree of life, understanding and coping for all, and group processes. Background: Borderline personality disorder has repeatedly been associated with a history of maltreatment in childhood; however, research on maltreatment and its link to borderline features in children is limited. Method: The aim of this review is to synthesise the existing data on the association between maltreatment and borderline features in childhood. In total, 10 studies were included in this systematic review. Results: Studies indicated that children with borderline features were more likely to have a history of maltreatment, and that children who had been maltreated were more likely to present with borderline features. Other risk factors such as cognitive and executive functioning deficits, parental dysfunction and genetic vulnerability were also identified across studies. Conclusion: This review adds to the literature by highlighting maltreatment as a risk factor for borderline features in childhood. Longitudinal research is required to establish the link between childhood borderline features and adult borderline features. The aim of this study was to develop and evaluate a pilot group using the Tree of Life model for individuals with a diagnosis of anorexia nervosa. Qualitative feedback from patients was collected in a focus group and analyzed using thematic analysis. Four themes were identified: (1) an image to remember, share, and change, (2) constructing an alternative perspective, (3) hope, and (4) creating a sense of community.
