Search

The mini proceedings of the "Fourth International Workshop on the Extension Project for the J-PARC Hadron Experimental Facility (HEF-ex 2024) [https://kds.kek.jp/event/46965]" held at J-PARC, February 19-21, 2024, are presented. The workshop was devoted to discussing the physics case that connects both the present and the future Hadron Experimental Facility at J-PARC, covering a wide range of topics in flavor, hadron, and nuclear physics related to both experimental and theoretical activities being conducted at the facility.

The strength distributions of the Isoscalar Giant Monopole Resonance (ISGMR) and Isoscalar Giant Quadrupole Resonance (ISGQR) in 142,146-150Nd have been determined via inelastic alpha-particle scattering with the Grand Raiden (GR) Spectrometer at the Research Center for Nuclear Physics (RCNP), Japan. In the deformed nuclei 146-150Nd, the ISGMR strength distributions exhibit a splitting into two components, while the nearly spherical nucleus 142Nd displays a single peak in the ISGMR strength distribution. A noteworthy achievement in this study is the first-time detection of overtones in the Isoscalar Giant Quadrupole Resonance (ISGQR) strength distributions within Nd isotopes at an excitation energy around 25 MeV obtained through Multipole Decomposition Analysis (MDA)., Comment: Accepted for publication in Physics Letters B

A new way to study the spin-isospin dependence of the $\Xi N$ interaction is explored through the energy levels of $\Xi N\alpha$ and $\Xi N\alpha \alpha$ systems with $\alpha$ being a spectator to attract the $ \Xi N$ pair without changing its spin-isospin structure. By using the Gaussian expansion method (GEM) with the state-of-the-art $\Xi N$ potential obtained from lattice QCD calculations, it is found that $\Xi N\alpha \alpha$ has spin-doublet bound states with $J^{\pi}={1^-}$ and $2^-$ in both isospin triplet and singlet channels. The inversion of the $1^-$-$2^-$ spin-doublet between the iso-triplet and the iso-singlet is found to be strongly correlated with the relative strengths of the $\Xi N$ interaction in the $^{11}{\rm S}_0, ^{13}{\rm S}_1,^{31}{\rm S}_0$ and $^{33}{\rm S}_1$ channels. The $(K^-, K^+)$ and $(K^-,K^0)$ reactions on the $^{10}$B target are proposed to produce those bound states., Comment: 5pages, 5figures

We conducted the coincidence measurement of $\alpha$ particles inelastically scattered from ${}^{20}$Ne at $0^{\circ}$ and decay charged particles in order to search for the alpha-particle condensed state. We compared the measured excitation-energy spectrum and decay branching ratio with the statistical-decay-model calculations, and found that the newly observed states at $E_x$ = 23.6, 21.8, and 21.2 MeV in ${}^{20}$Ne are strongly coupled to a candidate for the 4$\alpha$ condensed state in ${}^{16}$O. This result presents the first strong evidence that these states are the candidates for the 5$\alpha$ condensed state., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures. Experimental evidence exists that the $\Xi$-nucleus interaction is attractive. We search for $NN\Xi$ and $NNN\Xi$ bound systems on the basis of the AV8 $NN$ potential combined with either a phenomenological Nijmegen $\Xi N$ potential or a first principles HAL QCD $\Xi N$ potential. The binding energies of the three-body and four-body systems (below the $d+\Xi$ and $^3{\rm H}$/$^3{\rm He}+\Xi$ thresholds, respectively) are calculated by a high precision variational approach, the Gaussian Expansion Method. Although the two $\Xi N$ potentials have significantly different isospin ($T$) and spin ($S$) dependence, the $NNN\Xi$ system with quantum numbers $(T=0, J^{\pi}=1^+$) appears to be bound (one deep for Nijmegen and one shallow for HAL QCD) below the $^3{\rm H}$/$^3{\rm He}+\Xi$ threshold. Statistical dependencies among features of coronal mass ejections (CMEs), solar flares, and sigmoidal structures in soft-X-ray images were investigated. We applied analysis methods to all the features in the same way in order to investigate the reproducibility of the correlations among them, which may be found from the combination of previous statistical studies. The samples of 211 M-class and X-class flares, which were observed between 2006 and 2015 by Hinode/X-ray telescope, Solar and Heliospheric Observatory/Large Angle and Spectrometric Coronagraph, and GOES, were examined statistically. Five kinds of analysis were performed: Occurrence rate analysis, linear-correlation analysis, association analysis, the Kolmogorov--Smirnov test, and Anderson-Darling test. The analyses show three main results. First, the sigmoidal structure and long duration events (LDEs) has stronger dependency on the CME occurrence than large X-ray class events in on-disk events. Second, for the limb events, the significant dependency exists between LDEs and CME occurrence, and between X-ray class and CME occurrence. Third, there existed 32.4% of on-disk flare events, which had sigmoidal structure and were not accompanied by CMEs. However, the occurrence probability of CMEs without sigmoidal structures is very small, 8.8 %, in on-disk events. While the first and second results are consistent with previous studies, we newly provided the difference between the on-disk events and limb events. The third result that non-sigmoidal regions produce less eruptive events is also different from previous results. We suggest that sigmoidal structures in soft X-ray images will be a helpful feature for CME prediction regarding on-disk flare events., Comment: 37 pages, 11 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

We perform ab initio self-consistent Green's function calculations of the closed shell nuclei $^{\rm 4}$He, $^{\rm 16}$O and $^{\rm 40}$Ca, based on two-nucleon potentials derived from Lattice QCD simulations, in the flavor SU(3) limit and at the pseudo-scalar meson mass of 469~MeV/c$^{\rm 2}$. The nucleon-nucleon interaction is obtained using the HAL QCD method and its short-distance repulsion is treated by means of ladder resummations outside the model space. Our results show that this approach diagonalises ultraviolet degrees of freedom correctly. Therefore, ground state energies can be obtained from infrared extrapolations even for the relatively hard potentials of HAL QCD. Comparing to previous Brueckner Hartree-Fock calculations, the total binding energies are sensibly improved by the full account of many-body correlations. The results suggest an interesting possible behaviour in which nuclei are unbound at very large pion masses and islands of stability appear at first around the traditional doubly-magic numbers when the pion mass is lowered toward its physical value. The Human Space Technology Initiative was launched in 2010 within the framework of the United Nations Programme on Space Applications implemented by the Office for Outer Space Affairs of the United Nations. It aims to involve more countries in activities related to human spaceflight and space exploration and to increase the benefits from the outcome of such activities through international cooperation, to make space exploration a truly international effort. The role of the Initiative in these efforts is to provide a platform to exchange information, foster collaboration between partners from spacefaring and non-spacefaring countries, and encourage emerging and developing countries to take part in space research and benefit from space applications. The Initiative organizes expert meetings and workshops annually to raise awareness of the current status of space exploration activities as well as of the benefits of utilizing human space technology and its applications. We report a complete calculation of the quark and glue momenta and angular momenta in the proton. These include the quark contributions from both the connected and disconnected insertions. The quark disconnected insertion loops are computed with $Z_4$ noise, and the signal-to-noise is improved with unbiased subtractions. The glue operator is comprised of gauge-field tensors constructed from the overlap operator. The calculation is carried out on a $16^3 \times 24$ quenched lattice at $\beta = 6.0$ for Wilson fermions with $\kappa=0.154, 0.155$, and $0.1555$ which correspond to pion masses at $650, 538$, and $478$~MeV, respectively. The chirally extrapolated $u$ and $d$ quark momentum/angular momentum fraction is found to be $0.64(5)/0.70(5)$, the strange momentum/angular momentum fraction is $0.024(6)/0.023(7)$, and that of the glue is $0.33(6)/0.28(8)$. The previous study of quark spin on the same lattice revealed that it carries a fraction of $0.25(12)$ of proton spin. The orbital angular momenta of the quarks are then obtained from subtracting the spin from their corresponding angular momentum components. We find that the quark orbital angular momentum constitutes $0.47(13)$ of the proton spin with almost all of it coming from the disconnected insertions., Comment: Renormalization section is expanded to include more details. We present a lattice QCD study of the phase shift of $I{=}2$ $\pi\pi$ scattering on the basis of two different approaches: the standard finite volume approach by Luscher and the recently introduced HAL QCD potential method. Quenched QCD simulations are performed on lattices with extents $N_s{=}16,24,32,48$ and $N_t{=}128$ as well as lattice spacing $a{\sim}0.115\,\mathrm{fm}$ and a pion mass of $m_\pi{\sim}940\,\mathrm{MeV}$. The phase shift and the scattering length are calculated in these two methods. In the potential method, the error is dominated by the systematic uncertainty associated with the violation of rotational symmetry due to finite lattice spacing. In Luscher's approach, such systematic uncertainty is difficult to be evaluated and thus is not included in this work. A systematic uncertainty attributed to the quenched approximation, however, is not evaluated in both methods. In case of the potential method, the phase shift can be calculated for arbitrary energies below the inelastic threshold. The energy dependence of the phase shift is also obtained from Luscher's method using different volumes and/or nonrest-frame extension of it. We present a first attempt to determine nucleon-nucleon potentials in the parity-odd sector, which appear in 1P1, 3P0, 3P1, 3P2-3F2 channels, in Nf=2 lattice QCD simulations. These potentials are constructed from the Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter wave functions for J^P=0^-, 1^- and 2^-, which correspond to A1^-, T1^- and T2^- + E^- representation of the cubic group, respectively. We have found a large and attractive spin-orbit potential VLS(r) in the isospin-triplet channel, which is qualitatively consistent with the phenomenological determination from the experimental scattering phase shifts. The potentials obtained from lattice QCD are used to calculate the scattering phase shifts in 1P1, 3P0, 3P1 and 3P2-3F2 channels. The strong attractive spin-orbit force and a weak repulsive central force in spin-triplet P-wave channels lead to an attraction in the 3P2 channel, which is related to the P-wave neutron paring in neutron stars., Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures, Physics Letters B published version

We present a calculation of the strangeness and charmness contents and of the nucleon from dynamical lattice QCD with 2+1 flavors. The calculation is performed with overlap valence quarks on 2+1-flavor domain-wall fermion gauge configurations. The configurations are generated by the RBC collaboration on a 24^3*64 lattice with sea quark mass am_l=0.005, am_s=0.04, and inverse lattice spacing a^{-1}=1.73GeV. Both actions have chiral symmetry which is essential in avoiding contamination due to the operator mixing with other flavors. Nucleon propagator and the quark loops are both computed with stochastic grid sources, while low-mode substitution and low-mode averaging methods are used respectively which substantially improve the signal to noise ratio. We obtain the strangeness matrix element f_{T_{s}} = m_s / M_N = 0.0334(62), and the charmness content f_{T_{c}} = m_c / M_N = 0.094(31) which is resolved from zero by 3\sigma precision for the first time., Comment: 34 pages, 18 figures; correct typos and minor updates; Figures updated, final version published in Phys. We review recent investigations on the short distance behaviors of potentials among baryons, which are formulated through the Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter (NBS) wave function. After explaining the method to define the potentials, we analyze the short distance behavior of the NBS wave functions and the corresponding potentials by combining the operator product expansion and a renormalization group analysis in the perturbation theory of QCD. The United Nations Human Space Technology Initiative (HSTI) aims at promoting international cooperation in human spaceflight and space exploration-related activities; creating awareness among countries on the benefits of utilizing human space technology and its applications; and building capacity in microgravity education and research. HSTI has been conducting various scientific activities to promote microgravity education and research. The primary science activity is called 'Zero-gravity Instrument Distribution Project', in which one-axis clinostats will be distributed worldwide. The International Space Station (ISS), being operational with a permanent crew of six (6), is an unprecedented facility for research on science and technology and can be regarded as one of the greatest resources for humankind to explore space. The HSTI seeks to promote human space technology and to expand ISS utilization. This report describes the background, objectives, and current three-year work plan of HSTI which is composed of organizing expert meetings, seminars, and workshops as well as building capacity by distributing educational materials and zero-gravity experiment instruments., Comment: 7 pages

We report meson spectra obtained by using valence overlap fermion propagators generated on a background of 2+1 flavor domain wall fermion gauge configurations on 16^3 X 32, 24^3 X 64 and 32^3 X 64 lattices. We use many-to-all correlators with Z3 grid source and low eigenmode substitution which is efficient in reducing errors for the hadron correlators. We study the three nucleon force in the triton channel using dynamical clover fermion lattice QCD. The Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter wave function is utilized to obtain the potentials among three nucleons. Since the straightforward calculation is prohibitively expensive, two different frameworks are developed to meet the challenge. In the first method, we study the effective two nucleon potentials in the three nucleon system, where the differences between the effective two nucleon potentials and the genuine two nucleon potentials correspond to the three nucleon system effect, part of which is originated from the three nucleon force. The calculation is performed using Nf=2 clover fermion at m(\pi)= 1.13GeV generated by CP-PACS Collaboration, and Nf=2+1 clover fermion at m(\pi)= 0.70, 0.57GeV generated by PACS-CS Collaboration. In the second method, we study the three nucleon system with 3D-configuration of nucleons fixed. This enables us to extract the three nucleon force directly, if both of parity-even and parity-odd two nucleon potentials are provided. Since parity-odd two nucleon potentials are not available in lattice QCD at this moment, we propose a new general procedure to identify the three nucleon force using only parity-even two nucleon potentials. The calculation are performed with Nf=2 clover fermion at m(\pi)= 1.13GeV generated by CP-PACS Collaboration, employing the linear setup for the 3D-configuration. Results are presented for the electromagnetic mass splittings of the low lying hadrons. These are used to determine the non-degenerate light quark masses. It is found that m_u=2.24(10)(34), m_d=4.65(15)(32), and $m_s=97.6(2.9)(5.5)$ MeV (MSbar scheme, 2 GeV scale). The first error is statistical and the second systematic. We find the lowest order electromagnetic splitting (m_pi+-m_pi0)_QED=3.38(23) MeV, the splittings including next-to-leading order, (m_pi+-m_pi0)_QED=4.50(23) MeV, (m_K+-m_K0)_QED=1.87(10) MeV, and the m_u != m_d contribution to the kaon mass difference, (m_K+-m_K0)_(m_u-m_d)=-5.840(96) MeV. All errors are statistical only, and the next-to-leading order pion splitting is only approximate; it does not contain all next-to-leading order contributions. We also computed the proton-neutron mass difference, including for the first time, QED interactions in a realistic 2+1 flavor calculation. We find $(m_p-m_n)_{\rm QED}=0.383(68)$ MeV, (m_p-m_n)_(m_u-m_d)=-2.51(14) MeV, and the total m_p-m_n=-2.13(16)(70) MeV, where the first error is statistical, and the second, part of the systematic error. We use domain wall fermions and the Iwasaki gauge action (gauge coupling beta=2.13). We use two lattice sizes, 16^3 and 24^3, to address finite volume effects. Non-compact QED is treated in the quenched approximation. We present new results for the electromagnetic low energy constants in SU(3) and SU(2) partially-quenched chiral perturbation theory to the next-to-leading order, obtained from fits to our data. Detailed analysis of systematic errors in our results and methods for improving them are discussed. Finally, new analytic results for SU(2)_L x SU(2)_R-plus-kaon chiral perturbation theory, including the one-loop logs proportional to alpha_em*m, are given., Comment: Significant additions: finite volume analysis of kaon mass (Sec. II and the Appendix) which is used to obtain new central values, extended discussion of the breaking of Dashen's theorem (VII), additional phenomenological results (VII), and a new section (VIII) on isospin breaking effects on the kaon decay constant. The overlap fermion propagator is calculated on 2+1 flavor domain wall fermion gauge configurations on 16^3 x 32, 24^3 x 64 and 32^3 x 64 lattices. With HYP smearing and low eigenmode deflation, it is shown that the inversion of the overlap operator can be expedited by ~ 20 times for the 16^3 x 32 lattice and ~ 80 times for the 32^3 x 64 lattice. Through the study of hyperfine splitting, we found that the O(m^2a^2) error is small and these dynamical fermion lattices can adequately accommodate quark mass up to the charm quark. The low energy constant \Delta_{mix} which characterizes the discretization error of the pion made up of a pair of sea and valence quarks in this mixed action approach is calculated via the scalar correlator with periodic and anti-periodic boundary conditions. It is found to be small which shifts a 300 MeV pion mass by ~ 10 to 19 MeV on these sets of lattices. We have studied the signal-to-noise issue of the noise source for the meson and baryon. It is found that the many-to-all meson and baryon correlators with Z_3 grid source and low eigenmode substitution is efficient in reducing errors for the correlators of both mesons and baryons. With 64-point Z_3 grid source and low-mode substitution, it can reduce the statistical errors of the light quark (m_{\pi} ~ 200 - 300 MeV) meson and nucleon correlators by a factor of ~ 3-4 as compared to the point source. The Z_3 grid source itself can reduce the errors of the charmonium correlators by a factor of ~ 3., Comment: 30 pages, 18 figures, replaced with the version to be published in PRD

We study the KN interactions in the I(J^{\pi})=0(1/2^-) and 1(1/2^-) channels and associated exotic state \Theta^+ from 2+1 flavor full lattice QCD simulation for relatively heavy quark mass corresponding to m_{\pi}=871 MeV. The s-wave KN potentials are obtained from the Bethe-Salpeter wave function by using the method recently developed by HAL QCD (Hadrons to Atomic nuclei from Lattice QCD) Collaboration. Potentials in both channels reveal short range repulsions: Strength of the repulsion is stronger in the I=1 potential, which is consistent with the prediction of the Tomozawa-Weinberg term. The I=0 potential is found to have attractive well at mid range. We extend the study of lowest moments, $$ and $$, of the parton distribution function of the nucleon to include those of the sea quarks; this entails a disconnected insertion calculation in lattice QCD. This is carried out on a $16^3 \times 24$ quenched lattice with Wilson fermion. The quark loops are calculated with $Z_2$ noise vectors and unbiased subtractions, and multiple nucleon sources are employed to reduce the statistical errors. We obtain 5$\sigma$ signals for $$ for the $u,d,$ and $s$ quarks, but $$ is consistent with zero within errors. We provide results for both the connected and disconnected insertions. The perturbatively renormalized $$ for the strange quark at $\mu = 2$ GeV is $_{s+\bar{s}} = 0.027 \pm 0.006$ which is consistent with the experimental result. The ratio of $$ for $s$ vs. $u/d$ in the disconnected insertion with quark loops is calculated to be $0.88 \pm 0.07$. This is about twice as large as the phenomenologically fitted $\displaystyle\frac{< x>_{s+\bar{s}}}{< x>_{\bar{u}}+< x>_{\bar{d}}}$ from experiments where $\bar{u}$ and $\bar{d}$ include both the connected and disconnected insertion parts. We find a strong evidence for the survival of $J/\Psi$ and $\eta_c$ as spatially-localized $c\bar c$ (quasi-)bound states above the QCD critical temperature $T_c$, by investigating the boundary-condition dependence of their energies and spectral functions. In a finite-volume box, there arises a boundary-condition dependence for spatially spread states, while no such dependence appears for spatially compact states. In lattice QCD, we find almost {\it no} spatial boundary-condition dependence for the energy of the $c\bar c$ system in $J/\Psi$ and $\eta_c$ channels for $T\simeq(1.11-2.07)T_c$. We also investigate the spectral function of charmonia above $T_c$ in lattice QCD using the maximum entropy method (MEM) in terms of the boundary-condition dependence. There is {\it no} spatial boundary-condition dependence for the low-lying peaks corresponding to $J/\Psi$ and $\eta_c$ around 3GeV at $1.62T_c$. These facts indicate the survival of $J/\Psi$ and $\eta_c$ as compact $c\bar c$ (quasi-)bound states for $T_c < T < 2T_c$., Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure

We present an atlas of three-dimensional (position-position-velocity) spectra of the Orion Nebula in optical emission lines from a variety of different ionization stages: [O I] 6300, [S II] 6716,6731, [N II] 6584, [S III] 6312, H alpha 6563, and [O III] 5007. These transitions provide point to point information about the physical structure and kinematics of the nebula at an effective resolution of 3'' x 2'' x 10 km/s, clearly showing the large scale behavior of the ionized gas and the presence of localized phenomena such as Herbig-Haro outflows. As an example application of the atlas, we present a statistical analysis of the widths of the H alpha, [O III], and [N II] lines that permits a determination of the mean electron temperature in the nebula of (9200 +/- 400) K. We also find, in contradiction to previous claims, that the non-thermal line broadening is not significantly different between recombination lines and collisional lines., Comment: 34 pages, 22 figures, RevMexAA in press. J/Psi and eta_c above the QCD critical temperature T_c are studied in anisotropic quenched lattice QCD, considering whether the c\bar c systems above T_c are spatially compact (quasi-)bound states or scattering states. We adopt the standard Wilson gauge action and O(a)-improved Wilson quark action with renormalized anisotropy a_s/a_t =4.0 at \beta=6.10 on 16^3\times (14-26) lattices, which correspond to the spatial lattice volume V\equiv L^3\simeq(1.55{\rm fm})^3 and temperatures T\simeq(1.11-2.07)T_c. We investigate the c\bar c system above T_c from the temporal correlators with spatially-extended operators, where the overlap with the ground state is enhanced. To clarify whether compact charmonia survive in the deconfinement phase, we investigate spatial boundary-condition dependence of the energy of c\bar c systems above T_c. In fact, for low-lying S-wave c \bar c scattering states, it is expected that there appears a significant energy difference \Delta E \equiv E{\rm (APBC)}-E{\rm (PBC)}\simeq2\sqrt{m_c^2+3\pi^2/L^2}-2m_c (m_c: charm quark mass) between periodic and anti-periodic boundary conditions on the finite-volume lattice. In contrast, for compact charmonia, there is no significant energy difference between periodic and anti-periodic boundary conditions. As a lattice QCD result, almost no spatial boundary-condition dependence is observed for the energy of the c\bar c system in J/\Psi and \eta_c channels for T\simeq(1.11-2.07)T_c. This fact indicates that J/\Psi and \eta_c would survive as spatially compact c\bar c (quasi-)bound states below 2T_c. We also investigate a $P$-wave channel at high temperature with maximally entropy method (MEM) and find no low-lying peak structure corresponding to \chi_{c1} at 1.62T_c., Comment: 13 pages, 11 figures

We perform the quenched lattice QCD analysis on the nuclear force (baryon-baryon interactions). We employ $20^3\times 24$ lattice at $\beta=5.7$ ($a\simeq 0.19$ fm) with the standard gauge action and the Wilson quark action with the hopping parameters $\kappa=0.1600, 0.1625, 0.1650$, and generate about 200 gauge configurations. We measure the temporal correlators of the two-baryon system which consists of heavy-light-light quarks. We extract the inter-baryon force as a function of the relative distance $r$. We also evaluate the contribution to the nuclear force from each ``Feynman diagram'' such as the quark-exchange diagram individually, and single out the roles of Pauli-blocking effects or quark exchanges in the inter-baryon interactions., Comment: Presented at Particles and Nuclei International Conference (PANIC05), Santa Fe, NM, Oct. 24-28, 2005; 3 pages, 2figures

Anisotropic lattice QCD studies of penta-quarks(5Q) with J^P=1/2^\pm and 3/2^{\pm} are presented at the quenched level together with tetra-quarks(4Q). The standard gauge action at \beta=5.75 and O(a) improved quark (clover) action with \kappa=0.1410(0.010)0.1440 are employed on the anisotropic lattice with the renormalized anisotropy a_s/a_t = 4. The ``hybrid boundary condition(HBC)'' is adopted to discriminate a compact resonance state from scattering states. Only massive 5Q states are found for J^P=1/2^+ and 3/2^{\pm}, which cannot be identified as \Theta^+(1540). A low-lying 5Q state is found for J^P=1/2^- at m_{5Q}\simeq 1.75 GeV, which however turns out to be an NK scattering state through the HBC analysis. Motivated by the recent experimental discoveries of multi-quark candidates, e.g., the $\Theta^+(1540)$, we study multi-quark systems in lattice QCD. First, we perform accurate mass measurements of low-lying 5Q states with $J=1/2$ and I=0 in both positive- and negative-parity channels in anisotropic lattice QCD. The lowest positive-parity 5Q state is found to have a large mass of about 2.24GeV after the chiral extrapolation. To single out the compact 5Q state from $NK$ scattering states, we develop a new method with the hybrid-boundary condition (HBC), and find no evidence of the compact 5Q state below 1.75GeV in the negative-parity channel. Second, we perform the first study of the multi-quark potential in lattice QCD to clarify the inter-quark interaction in multi-quark systems. The 5Q potential $V_{\rm 5Q}$ for the QQ-${\rm \bar{Q}}$-QQ system is found to be well described by the ``OGE Coulomb plus multi-Y Ansatz": the sum of the one-gluon-exchange (OGE) Coulomb term and the multi-Y-type linear term based on the flux-tube picture. The 4Q potential $V_{\rm 4Q}$ for the QQ-${\rm \bar{Q}\bar{Q}}$ system is also described by the OGE Coulomb plus multi-Y Ansatz, when QQ and $\rm \bar Q \bar Q$ are well separated. The 4Q system is described as a "two-meson" state with disconnected flux tubes, when the nearest quark and antiquark pair is spatially close. We observe a lattice-QCD evidence for the ``flip-flop'', i.e., the flux-tube recombination between the connected 4Q state and the ``two-meson'' state. On the confinement mechanism, the lattice QCD results indicate the flux-tube-type linear confinement in multi-quark hadrons., Comment: 22 pages, 3 tables, 16 figures. A high-precision mass measurement for the pentaquark (5Q) Theta^+ in J^P=3/2^{\pm} channel is performed in anisotropic quenched lattice QCD using a large number of gauge configurations as N_{conf}=1000. We employ the standard Wilson gauge action at beta=5.75 and the O(a) improved Wilson (clover) quark action with kappa=0.1210(0.0010)0.1240 on a 12^3 \times 96 lattice with the renormalized anisotropy as a_s/a_t = 4. The Rarita-Schwinger formalism is adopted for the interpolating fields. Several types of the interpolating fields with isospin I=0 are examined such as (a) the NK^*-type, (b) the (color-)twisted NK^*-type, (c) a diquark-type. The chiral extrapolation leads to only massive states, i.e., m_{5Q} \simeq 2.1-2.2 GeV in J^P=3/2^- channel, and m_{5Q} = 2.4-2.6 GeV in J^P=3/2^+ channel. The analysis with the hybrid boundary condition(HBC) is performed to investigate whether these states are compact 5Q resonances or not. No low-lying compact 5Q resonance states are found below 2.1GeV., Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures, 4 tables

Penta-quark (5Q) baryons are studied using anisotropic lattice QCD for high-precision measurement of temporal correlators. A non-NK-type interpolating field is employed to study the 5Q states with J^P=1/2^{\pm} and I=0. In J^P=1/2^+ channel, the lowest-lying state is found at m_{5Q} \simeq 2.25 GeV, which is too massive to be identified as the Theta^+(1540). In J^P=1/2^- channel, the lowest-lying state is found at m_{5Q} \simeq 1.75 GeV. To distinguish a compact 5Q resonance state from an NK scattering state, a new method with ``hybrid boundary condition (HBC)'' is proposed.
