1. Edge-Detected 4DSTEM -- effective low-dose diffraction data acquisition method for nanopowder samples in a SEM instrument

Abstract: The appearance of direct electron detectors marked a new era for electron diffraction. Their high sensitivity and low noise opens the possibility to extend electron diffraction from transmission electron microscopes (TEM) to lower energies such as those found in commercial scanning electron microscopes (SEM).The lower acceleration voltage does however put constraints on the maximum sample thickness and it is a-priori unclear how useful such a diffraction setup could be. On the other hand, nanoparticles are increasingly appearing in consumer products and could form an attractive class of naturally thin samples to investigate with this setup.In this work we present such a diffraction setup and discuss methods to effectively collect and process diffraction data from dispersed crystalline nanoparticles in a commercial SEM instrument. We discuss ways to drastically reduce acquisition time while at the same time lowering beam damage and contamination issues as well as providing significant data reduction leading to fast processing and modest data storage needs. These approaches are also amenable to TEM and could be especially useful in the case of beam-sensitive objects., Comment: 16 pages, 9 figures

2. Study of the influence of instability wave scattering on the efficiency of jet noise shielding within the geometric theory of diffraction

Abstract: The paper presents the results of a theoretical study of the noise shielding effect of a subsonic turbulent jet located near a rigid screen. The developed theoretical model, based on the methods of the Geometrical Theory of Diffraction (GTD), takes into account the effects of scattering of the hydrodynamic fluctuations of the jet near field at the edges of the screen and diffraction of acoustic perturbations generated by small-scale turbulence. Small-scale turbulent noise radiating pulsations are described within the framework of the correlation theory of jet noise in the form of compact quadrupole sources distributed along the jet axis. Hydrodynamic near-field fluctuations are approximated as a superposition of Kelvin-Helmholtz instability wave packets of different azimuthal numbers. Typical parameters of both types of fluctuations are adjusted using experimental data on the near and far fields of a free jet issuing from a profiled nozzle with a diameter of 0.04 m at a velocity of 181 m/s. The result of the jet noise shielding efficiency calculation, using the developed model, is in good agreement with the experimental data obtained for the jet-plate configuration, including correct reproduction of the low-frequency noise amplification (jet-plate installation noise) and the effect of high-frequency noise decrease (shielding itself)., Comment: 19 pages, 10 figures

4. Terahertz Spin-Light Coupling in Proximitized Dirac Materials

Abstract: The two-dimensional (2D) materials are highly susceptible to the influence of their neighbors, thereby enabling the design by proximity phenomena. We reveal a remarkable terahertz (THz) spin-light interaction in 2D Dirac materials that arises from magnetic and spin-orbital proximity effects. The dynamical realization of the spin-charge conversion, the electric dipole spin resonance (EDSR), of Dirac electrons displays distinctive THz features, upon emerging spin-pseudospin proximity terms in the Hamiltonian. To capture the effect of fast pseudospin dynamics on the electron spin, we develop a mean-field theory and complement it with a quantum-mechanical treatment. As a specific example, we investigate the THz response of a single graphene layer proximitized by a magnetic substrate. Our analysis demonstrates a strong enhancement and anomalous polarization structure of the THz-light absorption which can enable THz detection and efficient generation and control of spins in spin-based quantum devices. 5. Anisotropic spin dynamics in antiferromagnets with a nonrelativistic spin splitting

Abstract: Antiferromagnets (AFM) with a nonrelativistic spin splitting (NSS) of electronic bands expand the range of spin-dependent phenomena and their applications. A crucial understanding for both of them pertains to the inherent spin dynamics. We demonstrate that the $d$-wave NSS gives rise to extremely anisotropic spin dynamics of carriers driven by the relaxation induced by motional narrowing. In contrast to the no relaxation of the spin polarization along the Neel vector, the dynamics of perpendicular spin components greatly varies from a long relaxation for a weak NSS to the fast-decaying oscillations for a strong NSS, a regime relevant to AFM with the $d$-wave NSS. The extreme anisotropy of the spin relaxation is transformed by the external magnetic field, which triggers the relaxation of the parallel spin component and also suppresses all the relaxation rates at larger magnitudes. The predicted spin dynamics of the $d$-wave NSS, known also from altermagnets, can be used as their experimental fingerprints and guide future applications., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures

Abstract: The multiplicities of positive and negative pions, kaons and unidentified hadrons produced in deep-inelastic scattering are measured in bins of the Bjorken scaling variable $x$, the relative virtual-photon energy $y$ and the fraction of the virtual-photon energy transferred to the final-state hadron $z$. Data were obtained by the COMPASS Collaboration using a 160 GeV muon beam of both electric charges and a liquid hydrogen target. These measurements cover the kinematic domain with photon virtuality $Q^2 > 1$ (GeV/$c)^2$, $0.004 < x < 0.4$, $0.1 < y < 0.7$ and $0.2 < z < 0.85$, in accordance with the kinematic domain used in earlier published COMPASS multiplicity measurements with an isoscalar target. The calculation of radiative corrections was improved by using the Monte Carlo generator DJANGOH, which results in up to 12\% larger corrections in the low-$x$ region., Comment: 19 pages, 29 figures

Abstract: This paper presents a comprehensive overview of the data preparation pipeline developed for the OpenGPT-X project, a large-scale initiative aimed at creating open and high-performance multilingual large language models (LLMs). The project goal is to deliver models that cover all major European languages, with a particular focus on real-world applications within the European Union. We explain all data processing steps, starting with the data selection and requirement definition to the preparation of the final datasets for model training. We distinguish between curated data and web data, as each of these categories is handled by distinct pipelines, with curated data undergoing minimal filtering and web data requiring extensive filtering and deduplication. This distinction guided the development of specialized algorithmic solutions for both pipelines. In addition to describing the processing methodologies, we provide an in-depth analysis of the datasets, increasing transparency and alignment with European data regulations. Finally, we share key insights and challenges faced during the project, offering recommendations for future endeavors in large-scale multilingual data preparation for LLMs.

8. Experimental detection of vortices in magic-angle graphene

Abstract: The tunability of superconducting magic-angle twisted-layer graphene films elevates this material system to a promising candidate for superconducting electronics. We implement a gate-tuned Josephson junction in a magic-angle twisted four-layer graphene film. Field-dependent measurements of the critical current show a Fraunhofer-like pattern that differs from the standard pattern with characteristics typical for a weak transverse screener. We observe sudden shifts associated with vortices jumping into and out of the leads. By tuning the leads to the edge of the superconducting dome, we observe fast switching between superconducting and normal states, an effect associated with vortex dynamics. Time-dependent measurements provide us with the vortex energy scale and an estimate for the London penetration depth, in agreement with recent kinetic inductance measurements on twisted graphene films. Our results prove the utility of our junction as a sensor for vortex detection, allowing us to extract fundamental properties of the 2D superconductor., Comment: 21 pages, 4 figures

Abstract: We present two multilingual LLMs designed to embrace Europe's linguistic diversity by supporting all 24 official languages of the European Union. Trained on a dataset comprising around 60% non-English data and utilizing a custom multilingual tokenizer, our models address the limitations of existing LLMs that predominantly focus on English or a few high-resource languages. We detail the models' development principles, i.e., data composition, tokenizer optimization, and training methodologies. The models demonstrate competitive performance across multilingual benchmarks, as evidenced by their performance on European versions of ARC, HellaSwag, MMLU, and TruthfulQA.

10. Stable random walks in cones

Abstract: In this paper we consider a multidimensional random walk killed on leaving a right circular cone with a distribution of increments belonging to the normal domain of attraction of an $\alpha$-stable and rotationally-invariant law with $\alpha \in (0,2)\setminus \{1\}$. Based on Bogdan et al. (2018) describing the tail behaviour of the exit time of $\alpha$-stable process from a cone and using some properties of Martin kernel of the isotropic $\alpha$-stable process, in this paper we construct a positive harmonic function of the discrete time random walk under consideration. Then we find the asymptotic tail of the distribution of the exit time of this random walk from the cone. We also prove the corresponding conditional functional limit theorem.

11. Predicting Expert Evaluations in Software Code Reviews

Abstract: Manual code reviews are an essential but time-consuming part of software development, often leading reviewers to prioritize technical issues while skipping valuable assessments. This paper presents an algorithmic model that automates aspects of code review typically avoided due to their complexity or subjectivity, such as assessing coding time, implementation time, and code complexity. Instead of replacing manual reviews, our model adds insights that help reviewers focus on more impactful tasks. Calibrated using expert evaluations, the model predicts key metrics from code commits with strong correlations to human judgments (r = 0.82 for coding time, r = 0.86 for implementation time). By automating these assessments, we reduce the burden on human reviewers and ensure consistent analysis of time-consuming areas, offering a scalable solution alongside manual reviews. This research shows how automated tools can enhance code reviews by addressing overlooked tasks, supporting data-driven decisions and improving the review process.

Abstract: We report the first measurement of the azimuthal anisotropy of J$/\psi$ at forward rapidity ($1.2<|\eta|<2.2$) in Au$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The data were collected by the PHENIX experiment in 2014 and 2016 with integrated luminosity of 14.5~nb$^{-1}$. The second Fourier coefficient ($v_2$) of the azimuthal distribution of $J/\psi$ is determined as a function of the transverse momentum ($p_T$) using the event-plane method. The measurements were performed for several selections of collision centrality: 0\%--50\%, 10\%--60\%, and 10\%-40\%. We find that in all cases the values of $v_2(p_T)$, which quantify the elliptic flow of J$/\psi$, are consistent with zero. The results are consistent with measurements at midrapidity, indicating no significant elliptic flow of the J$/\psi$ within the quark-gluon-plasma medium at collision energies of $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV., Comment: 369 authors from 72 institutions, 12 pages, 7 figures, 5 tables. v1 is version submitted to Physical Review C. 14. Advancing Topic Segmentation of Broadcasted Speech with Multilingual Semantic Embeddings

Abstract: Recent advancements in speech-based topic segmentation have highlighted the potential of pretrained speech encoders to capture semantic representations directly from speech. Traditionally, topic segmentation has relied on a pipeline approach in which transcripts of the automatic speech recognition systems are generated, followed by text-based segmentation algorithms. In this paper, we introduce an end-to-end scheme that bypasses this conventional two-step process by directly employing semantic speech encoders for segmentation. Focused on the broadcasted news domain, which poses unique challenges due to the diversity of speakers and topics within single recordings, we address the challenge of accessing topic change points efficiently in an end-to-end manner. Furthermore, we propose a new benchmark for spoken news topic segmentation by utilizing a dataset featuring approximately 1000 hours of publicly available recordings across six European languages and including an evaluation set in Hindi to test the model's cross-domain performance in a cross-lingual, zero-shot scenario. This setup reflects real-world diversity and the need for models adapting to various linguistic settings. Our results demonstrate that while the traditional pipeline approach achieves a state-of-the-art $P_k$ score of 0.2431 for English, our end-to-end model delivers a competitive $P_k$ score of 0.2564. When trained multilingually, these scores further improve to 0.1988 and 0.2370, respectively. To support further research, we release our model along with data preparation scripts, facilitating open research on multilingual spoken news topic segmentation.

Abstract: The $J/\psi$ and $\psi(2S)$ charmonium states, composed of $c\bar{c}$ quark pairs and known since the 1970s, are widely believed to serve as ideal probes to test quantum chromodynamics in high-energy hadronic interactions. However, there is not yet a complete understanding of the charmonium-production mechanism. Recent measurements of $J/\psi$ production as a function of event charged-particle multiplicity at the collision energies of both the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) show enhanced $J/\psi$ production yields with increasing multiplicity. One potential explanation for this type of dependence is multiparton interactions (MPI). We carry out the first measurements of self-normalized $J/\psi$ yields and the $\psi(2S)$ to $J/\psi$ ratio at both forward and backward rapidities as a function of self-normalized charged-particle multiplicity in $p$$+$$p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV. In addition, detailed {\sc pythia} studies tuned to RHIC energies were performed to investigate the MPI impacts. We find that the PHENIX data at RHIC are consistent with recent LHC measurements and can only be described by {\sc pythia} calculations that include MPI effects. The forward and backward $\psi(2S)$ to $J/\psi$ ratio, which serves as a unique and powerful approach to study final-state effects on charmonium production, is found to be less dependent on the charged-particle multiplicity., Comment: 301 authors from 69 institutions, 8 pages, 3 figures. v1 is version submitted to Physical Review D Letters. 16. Provable Imbalanced Point Clustering

Abstract: We suggest efficient and provable methods to compute an approximation for imbalanced point clustering, that is, fitting $k$-centers to a set of points in $\mathbb{R}^d$, for any $d,k\geq 1$. To this end, we utilize \emph{coresets}, which, in the context of the paper, are essentially weighted sets of points in $\mathbb{R}^d$ that approximate the fitting loss for every model in a given set, up to a multiplicative factor of $1\pm\varepsilon$. We provide [Section 3 and Section E in the appendix] experiments that show the empirical contribution of our suggested methods for real images (novel and reference), synthetic data, and real-world data. We also propose choice clustering, which by combining clustering algorithms yields better performance than each one separately.

18. Elastic electron scattering and localization in a chain with isotopic disorder

Abstract: We study elastic electron scattering and localization by ubiquitous isotopic disorder in one-dimensional systems appearing due to interaction with phonon modes localized at isotope impurities. By using a tight-binding model with intersite hopping matrix element dependent on the interatomic distance, we find mass-dependent backscattering probability by single and pairs of isotopic impurities. For the pairs, in addition to the mass, the distance between the isotopes plays the critical role. Single impurities effectively attract electrons and can produce localized weakly bound electron states. In the presence of disorder, the electron free path at positive energies becomes finite and the corresponding Anderson localization at the spatial scale greatly exceeding the distance between the impurities becomes possible., Comment: 11 figues

Abstract: The International Muon Collider Collaboration (IMCC) [1] was established in 2020 following the recommendations of the European Strategy for Particle Physics (ESPP) and the implementation of the European Strategy for Particle Physics-Accelerator R&D Roadmap by the Laboratory Directors Group [2], hereinafter referred to as the the European LDG roadmap. The Muon Collider Study (MuC) covers the accelerator complex, detectors and physics for a future muon collider. In 2023, European Commission support was obtained for a design study of a muon collider (MuCol) [3]. This project started on 1st March 2023, with work-packages aligned with the overall muon collider studies. In preparation of and during the 2021-22 U.S. Snowmass process, the muon collider project parameters, technical studies and physics performance studies were performed and presented in great detail. Recently, the P5 panel [4] in the U.S. recommended a muon collider R&D, proposed to join the IMCC and envisages that the U.S. should prepare to host a muon collider, calling this their "muon shot". Abstract: The PHENIX experiment measured the centrality dependence of two-pion Bose-Einstein correlation functions in $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$~GeV Au$+$Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The data are well represented by L\'evy-stable source distributions. The extracted source parameters are the correlation-strength parameter $\lambda$, the L\'evy index of stability $\alpha$, and the L\'evy-scale parameter $R$ as a function of transverse mass $m_T$ and centrality. The $\lambda(m_T)$ parameter is constant at larger values of $m_T$, but decreases as $m_T$ decreases. The L\'evy scale parameter $R(m_T)$ decreases with $m_T$ and exhibits proportionality to the length scale of the nuclear overlap region. The L\'evy exponent $\alpha(m_T)$ is independent of $m_T$ within uncertainties in each investigated centrality bin, but shows a clear centrality dependence. At all centralities, the L\'evy exponent $\alpha$ is significantly different from that of Gaussian ($\alpha=2$) or Cauchy ($\alpha=1$) source distributions. Comparisons to the predictions of Monte-Carlo simulations of resonance-decay chains show that in all but the most peripheral centrality class (50%-60%), the obtained results are inconsistent with the measurements, unless a significant reduction of the in-medium mass of the $\eta'$ meson is included. In each centrality class, the best value of the in-medium $\eta'$ mass is compared to the mass of the $\eta$ meson, as well as to several theoretical predictions that consider restoration of $U_A(1)$ symmetry in hot hadronic matter., Comment: 401 authors from 75 institutions, 20 pages, 15 figures, 2 tables. v1 is version submitted to Physical Review C. Abstract: A long-term measurement was conducted to search for $\alpha$, double-$\alpha$ and double-$\beta$ decays with $\gamma$ quanta emission in naturally occurring osmium isotopes. This study took advantage of two ultra-low background HPGe detectors and one ultra-low background BEGe detector at the Gran Sasso National Laboratory (LNGS) of the INFN. Over almost 5 years of data were taken using high-purity osmium samples of approximately 173 g. The half-life limits set for a decays of $^{184}$Os to the first $2^+$ 103.6 keV excited level of $^{180}$W ($T_{1/2} > 9.3 \times 10^{15}$ yr) and of $^{186}$Os to the first $2^+$ 100.1 keV of $^{182}$W ($T_{1/2} > 4.8 \times 10^{17}$ yr) exceed substantially the present theoretical predictions that are at level of $T_{1/2} \sim (0.6 - 3) \times 10^{15}$ yr for $^{184}$Os and $T_{1/2} \sim (0.3 - 2) \times 10^{17}$ yr for $^{186}$Os. New half-life limits on the 2EC and EC$\beta^+$ decay of $^{184}$Os to the ground and excited levels of $^{184}$W were set at level of $T_{1/2} > 10^{16} - 10^{17}$ yr; a lower limit on the $2\beta^-$ decay of $^{192}$Os to the $2^+$ 316.5 keV excited level of $^{192}$Pt was estimated as $T_{1/2} > 6.1 \times 10^{20}$ yr. Abstract: High-momentum two-particle correlations are a useful tool for studying jet-quenching effects in the quark-gluon plasma. Angular correlations between neutral-pion triggers and charged hadrons with transverse momenta in the range 4--12~GeV/$c$ and 0.5--7~GeV/$c$, respectively, have been measured by the PHENIX experiment in 2014 for Au$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$~GeV. Suppression is observed in the yield of high-momentum jet fragments opposite the trigger particle, which indicates jet suppression stemming from in-medium partonic energy loss, while enhancement is observed for low-momentum particles. The ratio and differences between the yield in Au$+$Au collisions and $p$$+$$p$ collisions, $I_{AA}$ and $\Delta_{AA}$, as a function of the trigger-hadron azimuthal separation, $\Delta\phi$, are measured for the first time at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. 24. Universal spectra of noisy parameterized quantum circuits

Abstract: Random unitaries are an important resource for quantum information processing. While their universal properties have been thoroughly analyzed, it is not known what happens to these properties when the unitaries are sampled on the present-day noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) computers. We implement parameterized circuits, which have been proposed as a means to generate random unitaries, on a transmon platform and model these implementations as quantum maps. To retrieve the maps, a machine-learning assisted tomography is used. We find the spectrum of a map to be either an annulus or a disk depending on the circuit depth and detect an annulus-disk transition. By their spectral properties, the retrieved maps appear to be very similar to a recently introduced ensemble of random maps, for which spectral densities can be analytically evaluated., Comment: 4 figures plus SM

Abstract: Magic-Angle Twisted Bilayer Graphene shows a wide range of correlated phases which are electrostatically tunable. Despite a growing knowledge of the material, there is yet no consensus on the microscopic mechanisms driving its superconducting phase. In particular, elucidating the symmetry and formation mechanism of the superconducting phase may provide key insights for the understanding of unconventional, strongly coupled and topological superconductivity. A major obstacle to progress in this direction is that key thermodynamic properties, such as specific heat, electron-phonon coupling and superfluid stiffness, are extremely challenging to measure due to the 2D nature of the material and its relatively low energy scales. Here, we use a gate-defined, radio frequency-biased, Josephson junction to probe the electronic dynamics of magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene (MATBG). We reveal both the electronic quasiparticle dynamics, driven by their thermalization through phonon scattering, as well as the condensate dynamics, driven by the inertia of Cooper pairs. From these properties we recover the evolution of thermalization rates, and the superfluid stiffness across the phase diagram. Abstract: A detailed understanding of the material properties that affect the splitting between the two low-lying valley states in Si/SiGe heterostructures will be increasingly important as the number of spin qubits is increased. Scanning gate microscopy has been proposed as a method to measure the spatial variation of the valley splitting as a tip-induced dot is moved around in the plane of the Si quantum well. We develop a simulation using an electrostatic model of the scanning gate microscope tip and the overlapping gate structure combined with an approximate solution to the three-dimensional Schr\"odinger-Poisson equation in the device stack. Using this simulation, we show that a tip-induced quantum dot formed near source and drain electrodes can be adiabatically moved to a region far from the gate electrodes. We argue that by spatially translating the tip-induced dot across a defect in the Si/SiGe interface, changes in valley splitting can be detected.

27. Isotope effect in the Morse approximation of the ground state term of hydrogen molecule nH2, n = 1-7. Herzberg anomaly and anharmonicity

Abstract: The influence of the reduced mass on the results of the approximation by the Morse function of the ground electronic state term potential U(r) of hydrogen molecule nH2 for seven symmetrical isotopologues n = 1-7 is investigated. For each isotopologue, two alternative model solutions of the Schroedinger equation are obtained, namely, M1(r) and M2(r) functions, which differ by the selection of the primary fitting parameters in the Morse approximation. The U(r) - M(r) functions are shown to clearly visualize the differences between the shapes of the potential at its approximation. The concept of systematic deviation of Morse functions from the real potential is introduced. This deviation is always present in the approximation of simple terms, for which U(r) curve lies between M1(r) and M2(r) without crossings. In case of nH2, for M1(r) the systematic monotonous deviation increases, reaching 1700-2770 cm-1 (for 7H2-1H2) at the level of the asymptote. For M2(r) the systematic deviation decreases at larger distances: it is dome-shaped with a maximum of ca. 1500 cm-1 in the upper part of the term, after which it falls to zero. The M2(r) curves for different isotopologues diverge by less than 20 cm-1. There are also anomalies, where M1(r) and M2(r) cross U(r), called "Herzberg anomaly". For example, at around r = 1.08 A the U(r) - M2(r) function shows anomalous negative values ranging from -125 cm-1 (for 1H2) to -142 cm-1 (for 7H2). The diagnostic value of Herzberg anomaly and anharmonicities for various isotopologues is discussed.

Abstract: Recent advancements in language modeling have led to the emergence of Large Language Models (LLMs) capable of various natural language processing tasks. Despite their success in text-based tasks, applying LLMs to the speech domain remains limited and challenging. This paper presents BLOOMZMMS, a novel model that integrates a multilingual LLM with a multilingual speech encoder, aiming to harness the capabilities of LLMs for speech recognition and beyond. Utilizing a multi-instructional training approach, we demonstrate the transferability of linguistic knowledge from the text to the speech modality. Our experiments, conducted on 1900 hours of transcribed data from 139 languages, establish that a multilingual speech representation can be effectively learned and aligned with a multilingual LLM. While this learned representation initially shows limitations in task generalization, we address this issue by generating synthetic targets in a multi-instructional style. Our zero-shot evaluation results confirm the robustness of our approach across multiple tasks, including speech translation and multilingual spoken language understanding, thereby opening new avenues for applying LLMs in the speech domain., Comment: NAACL Findings 2024

Abstract: The Spin Physics Detector collaboration proposes to install a universal detector in the second interaction point of the NICA collider under construction (JINR, Dubna) to study the spin structure of the proton and deuteron and other spin-related phenomena using a unique possibility to operate with polarized proton and deuteron beams at a collision energy up to 27 GeV and a luminosity up to $10^{32}$ cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$. As the main goal, the experiment aims to provide access to the gluon TMD PDFs in the proton and deuteron, as well as the gluon transversity distribution and tensor PDFs in the deuteron, via the measurement of specific single and double spin asymmetries using different complementary probes such as charmonia, open charm, and prompt photon production processes. Other polarized and unpolarized physics is possible, especially at the first stage of NICA operation with reduced luminosity and collision energy of the proton and ion beams. This document is dedicated exclusively to technical issues of the SPD setup construction.

31. Approximation of the electronic terms of diatomic molecules by the Morse function. The role of anharmonicity. II. Simple terms

Abstract: This article continues the series of works by the authors on the approximation of the electronic terms of diatomic molecules by the Morse formula, which is the simplest anharmonic approximation of the real term U(r). Depending on the choice of parameters, the approximation has two alternative solutions M1(r) and M2(r), with different patterns of deviations from the real term and its vibrational structure. The difference {\delta}(r)=U(r)-M(r) quantitatively shows the changes in the shape of the terms during approximation. We introduced an empirical anharmonicity function -2{\omega}_e x(v), which characterizes the positions of vibrational levels in the potential well; it demonstrates the distortion of the vibrational structure of the term U(r) during the approximation. Based on the data from literature, the functions {\delta}(r) and -2{\omega}_e x(v) were constructed for more than 20 molecules. Here we present a group of simple terms with minimal deviations from the Morse shape.

32. Characteristics of the fission fragments in the three-body model of binary fission

Abstract: The evaluated nuclide yields, fragment mass and charge distributions, and averaged total kinetic energy of fission fragments for the neutron-induced fission of 30 actinide nuclei are well described in the new model, which considers the fissioning scission system consisting of two heavy fragments and an alpha-particle between them. The alpha-particle has its origin in the neck nucleons. The yield of fission fragments in the model is linked to the number of states over the barrier of the saddle point, which is between the contacting and well-separated fission fragments. The alpha-particle is fused with the nearest heavy fragment after passing the saddle point, therefore, two final fragments appear during fission. The quadrupole deformations of heavy fragments are taken into account in the model. Abstract: The intrinsic valley degree of freedom makes bilayer graphene a unique platform for emerging types of semiconducting qubits. The single-carrier quantum dot ground state exhibits a two-fold degeneracy where the two states have opposite spin and valley quantum numbers. By breaking the time-reversal symmetry of this ground state with an out-of-plane magnetic field, a novel type of qubit (Kramers qubit), encoded in the two-dimensional spin-valley subspace, becomes accessible. The Kramers qubit is robust against known spin- and valley-mixing mechanisms, as it requires a simultaneous change of both quantum numbers, potentially resulting in long relaxation and coherence times. We measure the relaxation time of a single carrier in the excited states of a bilayer graphene quantum dot at small ($\sim \mathrm{mT}$) and zero magnetic fields. We demonstrate ultra-long spin-valley relaxation times of the Kramers qubit exceeding $30~\mathrm{s}$, which is about two orders of magnitude longer than the spin relaxation time of $400~\mathrm{ms}$. The demonstrated high-fidelity single-shot readout and long relaxation times are the foundation for novel, long-lived semiconductor qubits.

41. Emergent bright excitons with Rashba spin-orbit coupling in atomic monolayers

Abstract: Optical properties in van der Waals heterostructures based on monolayer transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), are often dominated by excitonic transitions. While intrinsic spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and an isotropic band structure are typically studied in TMDs, in their heterostructures Rashba SOC and trigonal warping (TW), resulting in bands with threefold anisotropy, are also present. By considering a low-energy effective Hamiltonian and Bethe-Salpeter equation, we study the effect of Rashba SOC and TW on the band structure and absorption spectra. Rashba SOC is predicted to lead to emergent excitons, which are identified as an admixture between 1s and 2p symmetries. In contrast, for experimentally relevant values, TW has only a negligible effect on the absorption spectrum. Abstract: New results are presented on a high-statistics measurement of Collins and Sivers asymmetries of charged hadrons produced in deep inelastic scattering of muons on a transversely polarised $^6$LiD target. The data were taken in 2022 with the COMPASS spectrometer using the 160 \gevv\ muon beam at CERN, balancing the existing data on transversely polarised proton targets. The first results from about two-thirds of the new data have total uncertainties smaller by up to a factor of three compared to the previous deuteron measurements. Using all the COMPASS proton and deuteron results, both the transversity and the Sivers distribution functions of the $u$ and $d$ quark, as well as the tensor charge in the measured $x$-range are extracted. In particular, the accuracy of the $d$ quark results is significantly improved.

Abstract: The COMPASS Collaboration performed measurements of the Drell-Yan process in 2015 and 2018 using a 190 GeV/c $\pi^{-}$ beam impinging on a transversely polarised ammonia target. Combining the data of both years, we present final results on the amplitudes of the five azimuthal modulations in the dimuon production cross section. Three of these transverse-spin-dependent azimuthal asymmetries (TSAs) probe the nucleon leading-twist Sivers, transversity, and pretzelosity transverse-momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions (PDFs). The other two are induced by subleading effects. These TSAs provide unique new inputs for the study of the nucleon TMD PDFs and their universality properties. In particular, the Sivers TSA observed in this measurement is consistent with the fundamental QCD prediction of a sign change of naive time-reversal-odd TMD PDFs when comparing the Drell-Yan process with semi-inclusive measurements of deep inelastic scattering. Also, within the context of model predictions, the observed transversity TSA is consistent with the expectation of a sign change for the Boer-Mulders function.

44. Production of super-heavy nuclei in hot-fusion reactions

Abstract: A model for hot-fusion reactions leading to the synthesis of super-heavy nuclei is discussed. The values of the hot-fusion cross-sections obtained in the model agree with the available experimental data. The hot-fusion cross-sections are found for two different models of the fission barrier heights of super-heavy nuclei. The calculations of the cross-sections for the various hot-fusion reactions leading to the 119 and 120 elements are presented. Simple expressions useful for qualitative analysis of the cross-section for forming super-heavy nuclei are obtained. It is shown that the super-heavy nuclei production cross section is proportional to the transmission coefficient of the capture barrier, realization probability of the $xn$-evaporation channel, and exponentially depends on the quasi-elastic barrier, fusion reaction Q-value, compound nucleus formation barrier, neutron separation energies, and fission barrier heights., Comment: 16 pages, 12 figures, 1 table. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:2309.14995

45. Natural sinks and sources of CO2 and CH4 in the atmosphere of Russian regions and their contribution to climate change in the 21st century as calculated with CMIP6 model ensemble

Abstract: The natural fluxes of CO2 and CH4 into the atmosphere from the territory of Russia in the 21st century have been analyzed using the results of calculations with the ensemble of global climate models of the international project CMIP6. Estimates of natural CO2 fluxes for Russian regions differ greatly for different models. Their values for the beginning of the 21st century range from -1 to 1 GtC/yr. In the 21st century the differences in model estimates of fluxes grow and at the end of the 21st century under the scenario with the largest anthropogenic impacts SSP5-8.5 are in the range from -2.5 to 2.5 GtC/year. Estimates of natural methane emissions to the atmosphere from the territory of Russia also differ greatly for different models. Present-day methane emissions are estimated in the range from 10 to 35 MtCH4/year, while the growth in the 21st century may reach 300%. Ensemble model calculations show general trends for changes in natural greenhouse gas fluxes. Most CMIP6 ensemble models are characterized by a maximum of CO2 uptake by terrestrial ecosystems and its further reduction by the end of the 21st century, while natural methane emissions to the atmosphere for all models and scenarios of anthropogenic forcing grow throughout the 21st century. The cumulative temperature potential of natural CO2 fluxes on the territory of Russia in the 21st century is estimated, depending on the scenario of anthropogenic impacts, from -0.3 to 0.1 K, and the warming-accelerating impact of natural CH4 emissions is estimated in the range of 0.03-0.09 K., Comment: 15 pages, 7 figures

Abstract: The PHENIX experiment has performed a systematic study of identified charged-hadron ($\pi^\pm$, $K^\pm$, $p$, $\bar{p}$) production at midrapidity in $p$$+$Al, $^3$He$+$Au, Cu$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV and U$+$U collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=193$ GeV. Identified charged-hadron invariant transverse-momentum ($p_T$) and transverse-mass ($m_T$) spectra are presented and interpreted in terms of radially expanding thermalized systems. The particle ratios of $K/\pi$ and $p/\pi$ have been measured in different centrality ranges of large (Cu$+$Au, U$+$U) and small ($p$$+$Al, $^3$He$+$Au) collision systems. The values of $K/\pi$ ratios measured in all considered collision systems were found to be consistent with those measured in $p$$+$$p$ collisions. However the values of $p/\pi$ ratios measured in large collision systems reach the values of $\approx0.6$, which is $\approx2$ times larger than in $p$$+$$p$ collisions. These results can be qualitatively understood in terms of the baryon enhancement expected from hadronization by recombination. Identified charged-hadron nuclear-modification factors ($R_{AB}$) are also presented. Enhancement of proton $R_{AB}$ values over meson $R_{AB}$ values was observed in central $^3$He$+$Au, Cu$+$Au, and U$+$U collisions. The proton $R_{AB}$ values measured in $p$$+$Al collision system were found to be consistent with $R_{AB}$ values of $\phi$, $\pi^\pm$, $K^\pm$, and $\pi^0$ mesons, which may indicate that the size of the system produced in $p$$+$Al collisions is too small for recombination to cause a noticeable increase in proton production., Comment: 480 authors from 78 institutions, 18 pages, 6 tables, 16 figures. v2 is version accepted for publication in Physical Review C.
