The present study analyzed the listed rare and endangered plants on List of National Key Protected Wild Plants in China (2021) and List of Key Protected Wild Plants in Zhejiang Province (2023) (to be announced), which are known to occur in Zhejiang Province and their patterns of distribution. Using the coefficients of endangerment, genetic value, and species value, priority protection of rare and endangered plants in the province was quantitatively analyzed. The results were as follows: (1) A total of 333 rare and endangered species belonging 229 genera in 101 families had been documented as occurring in Zhejiang, of which 311 species (accounting for 93.39%) were seed plants. The family Orchidaceae had the greatest species richness with 56 species in 32 genera. (2) At the regional level, the highest densities of rare and endangered plants in Zhejiang were mainly concentrated in the Tianmu Mountain area (including 147 species) in Northwest Zhejiang and the Donggong Mountain area (including 164 species) in Southwest Zhejiang, whereas fewer rare and endangered plant species were distributed in the plains of North Zhejiang. (3) Based on elevation, the distribution of rare and endangered species revealed a reversed “U”-shaped pattern of firstly increasing with increasing elevation and then decreasing as the elevation continued to increase. The largest number of rare and endangered species (144 in 113 genera of 60 families) was found at elevations 601 to 800 m above sea level (a.s.l) . (4) According to the quantitative analysis of priority protection, 82 species (24.62%) were classified as requiring the first level of priority protection (I), and 144 (43.24%), 85 (25.53%), and 22 (6.61%) species were classified as levels Ⅱ, Ⅲ, and Ⅳ, respectively. It is a species richness of rare and endangered plants in Zhejiang Province, and this analysis provides a more intuitive reflection of urgent need for a specific degree of protection for various species. The current status of each species is roughly consistent with the results, and it is necessary to strengthen monitoring for proposing dynamically adjustments of the priority protection order for rare and endangered plants. Extreme precipitation events often present significant risks to human life and property, making their accurate prediction an essential focus of current research. Recent studies have primarily concentrated on exploring the formation mechanisms of extreme precipitation. Existing prediction methods do not adequately account for the combined terrain and atmospheric effects, resulting in shortcomings in extreme precipitation forecasting accuracy. Additionally, the satellite data resolution used in prior studies fails to precisely capture nuanced details of abrupt changes in extreme precipitation. To address these shortcomings, this study introduces an innovative approach for accurately predicting extreme precipitation: the multimodal attention ConvLSTM-GAN for extreme rainfall nowcasting (ER-MACG). This model employs high-resolution Fengyun-4A(FY4A) satellite precipitation products, as well as terrain and atmospheric datasets as inputs. The ER-MACG model enhances the ConvLSTM-GAN framework by optimizing the generator structure with an attention module to improve the focus on critical areas and time steps. This model can alleviate the problem of information loss in the spatial–temporal convolutional long short-term memory network (ConvLSTM) and, compared with the standard ConvLSTM-GAN model, can better handle the detailed changes in time and space in extreme precipitation events to achieve more refined predictions. The main findings include the following: (a) The ER-MACG model demonstrated significantly greater predictive accuracy and overall performance than other existing approaches. (b) The exclusive consideration of DEM and LPW data did not significantly enhance the ability to predict extreme precipitation events in Zhejiang Province. (c) The ER-MACG model significantly improved in identifying and predicting extreme precipitation events of different intensity levels. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To study, practice, and interpret Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, it is essential to accurately grasp its historical status, essence, and practical requirements, as well as scientifically analyze its theoretical origins and development trends. Xi Jinping's extensive practice, profound thinking, and continuing exploration of ecological civilization construction at the local level have demonstrated a consistent, deepening, expanding, and constantly sublimating development trajectory and ideological logic that began before and continued after the formal establishment of his ecological civilization thought since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). This thought exhibits a high degree of intrinsic inheritance and consistency in practical foundations, ideological origins, spiritual qualities, language styles, and other aspects. During his tenure in Zhejiang from October 2002 to March 2007, Xi Jinping made a series of forward-looking, strategic, fundamental, and far-reaching statements, ideas, and remarks regarding ecological civilization construction and the economic and social development of Zhejiang. These statements are highly consistent with the new concepts, ideas, and strategies for governance in the field of ecological civilization construction established by the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core since the 18th National Congress of the CPC. This article proposes through a literature comparison that it was in Zhejiang that the idea that 'lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets' (or the 'Two Mountains' theory) originated. As the Secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial CPC Committee, Xi Jinping introduced the term 'ecological civilization' and produced a significant landmark document entitled 'Zhijiang New Language.' He also made a major decision regarding the '8-8 Strategy' and fully implemented the strategy of establishing an 'ecological province,' among other initiatives. This series of iconic and strategic concepts and practices further developed and improved Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization in Zhejiang, following its incubation and birth in Fujian, thereby positioning Zhejiang as a strategic highland for the development and improvement of Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization. Establishing this position holds significant strategic guidance for carrying out the project to trace the origins of Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization. By fully, accurately, systematically, and comprehensively studying and interpreting the evolution of Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization at the local level, we can better appreciate that this important thought is rooted in Chinese soil, aligns with China's realities, and embodies a scientific theory with Chinese characteristics. This understanding will ultimately contribute to the construction of an independent knowledge system of ecological civilization in China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Quantifying green transformation level of 26 mountainous counties is crucial for the construction of a demonstration zone for common prosperity in Zhejiang. Based on the perspective of "green ecology-green production-green life" three-dimensional space, a green transformation indicator system was constructed; the temporal and spatial differentiation characteristics and driving factors of green transformation in 26 mountainous counties of Zhejiang from 2010 to 2021 were studied using vertical and horizontal pull-off grade method, gravity center-standard deviation ellipse, and geographically and temporally weighted regression (GTWR) model. The results show that from 2010 to 2021, the overall green transformation of 26 mountainous counties showes an increasing trend, with an average annual increase of 2. 428%, indicating that there is still considerable room for improvement; the variation coefficient of green transformation decreases year by year, and the characteristic of the regional differences gradually changes from "large gap and low level" to "small gap and high level". From 2010 to 2021, green transformation of 26 mountainous counties gradually showes a spatial distribution pattern with "Yongjia-Jinyun-Qingtian" as the core; the gravity center of green transformation gradually expands to the north, and the northern region of 26 mountainous counties have a significant improvement in green transformation during the study period; the spatial distribution of green transformation in 26 mountainous counties generally follows a northwest-southeast trend, and the distribution pattern is relatively stable; the distribution range of the standard deviation ellipse gradually narrows, and the spatial agglomeration continues to increase, indicating that the problem of regional development imbalance has improved. Each influencing factor shows strong temporal and spatial heterogeneity. Economic development, urbanization, government regulation and human capital quality have always been the main driving factors for green transformation of 26 mountainous counties; the driving forces of financial development, scientific, technological level and openness to the outside world have gradually increased; the driving effect of industrial structure is still unstable, and the driving ability for green transformation of 26 mountainous counties is limited. New discovery of the early Silurian fossil fish Changxingaspis (Xiushuiaspidae, Galeaspida), Changxingaspis nianzhongi sp. nov. and C. gui, are described from the Tataertag Formation in Tarim Basin and the Kangshan Formation in Zhejiang Province, respectively. C. nianzhongi mainly differs from C. gui in the shape of the median dorsal opening that is transverse elliptic with a width/length ratio of about 3.0, the long lateral transverse canals extending to the lateral margin of the headshield, and the second lateral transverse canal with dichotomous branchings. Discovery of C. nianzhongi from the Tataertag Formation and C. gui from the Kangshan Formation provide direct evidence on the specific level for the correlation between these two formations, which further supports the Silurian fish‐bearing red beds in northwest Zhejiang belonging to the Silurian Lower Red Beds (LRBs) rather than the Upper Red Beds (URBs). Additionally, as the first record of the Changxingaspis in Tarim Basin, it extends the paleogeographical distribution of this genus from the South China Block to the Tarim Block, providing new evidence to support faunal exchanges between these two blocks and the hypothesis of a united Tarim–South China Block during the early Silurian. - Abstract
Rainfall is one of the key inducements of geological hazards. Continuous rainfall coupled with the geological environment elements will lead to the deformation and failure of the slope, which in turn causes the continuous changes in the weighting system of the various influence factors of geological hazards. Therefore, it is of great significance for accurate hazard warning and forecast to fully consider the temporal variability of the influence factors' weights of geological hazards in the research of rainfall threshold. This paper selected nine influence factors(lithology, slope, etc.)for four types of geological hazards including landslides, collapses, slope debris flows and gully debris flows to analyze the changes in the weighting system of ten rainfall periods(1 h,3 h,6 h etc.)in Ningbo, and finally put forward three levels (red, orange and yellow) of warning and forecasting value for different geo-hazard risk prevention zones. The results show that the weights of the nine influence factors of the four types of geological hazards change apparently within 24 hours after rainfall. The weights of the six influence factors, including the slope and soil layer thickness of landslides, the slope and elevation difference of collapses, the slope and lithology of slope debris flows, and the slope and elevation of the gully debris flows, change more obviously in the process of rainfall. The weights of slopes are generally positively correlated with time, while the weights of the other factors are negatively correlated with time. Comparing the rainfall thresholds calculated by the method considering the time-varying weights and the I-D logarithmic method, the result indicates that the rainfall thresholds calculated by the former method can reflect more real warning values. CARBON emissions , *EMISSION inventories , *NUCLEAR reactors , *ENERGY consumption - Abstract
All provinces of China respond to the central government, predict future carbon dioxide emissions, and formulate action plans detailing how the province intends to fulfill its target of carbon emission peaking before 2030. Based on the bottom‐up energy consumption prediction and top‐down goal verification, this paper constructs a set of regional carbon dioxide emission prediction methods. Compared to the traditional bottom‐up prediction method, this method could simplify the parameters while improving the prediction accuracy. This model is used to predict and analyze the process of carbon dioxide emission peaking in Zhejiang. The results show that the mean absolute percentage error of the retrospective prediction value is only 1.56%. Zhejiang will reach carbon dioxide emission peaking around 2029–2030, and the peak value will be 569.7 million tons. Different factors have different effects on the process of carbon dioxide emission peaking. There is a strong correlation between the peak time of carbon dioxide emission and the production time of major energy‐consuming projects in Zhejiang. Meanwhile, if the 16 nuclear reactors are not put into operation, Zhejiang will not be able to achieve the goal of carbon dioxide emission peaking. Besides, the basic data used in this model is mainly from the local statistical departments of the region. Thus, it can be applied to other provinces and regions conveniently. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Silk is a distinct element in the Belt and Road Initiative and is an important carrier of Chinese civilization and national industry. However with the industrial transformation technological upgrading and the development of times the characteristics of the silk industry as a traditional industry have become increasingly obvious and the industry is facing development bottlenecks such as market shrinkage and undiversified products. Digital dissemination based on the increasingly mature network environment and digital technology is of great benefit in promoting traditional industries to adapt to the new stage creating new growth drivers building new business forms and reshaping new impressions. Nevertheless it can be found through the investigation of the application status of digital dissemination in the silk industry in Zhejiang province that silk enterprises have "different degrees of cognition" of digital dissemination "uneven" practice of digital dissemination and "differently positioned" value of digital dissemination. In general Zhejiang silk industry has explored digital dissemination to some extent but no consistent views and actions have been formed in cognitive depth application heat and thinking direction. Especially the explicit characteristics of using digital dissemination to develop the silk industry from the perspective of the Belt and Road are not distinct enough. The crux of the problem lies in three aspects. Firstly the matching degree between enterprise management thinking and the essence of international dissemination is poor. Secondly the integration degree of factor expression and diversified media is still low. Finally the matching degree between content design and development and high quality creation requirements is too low. To promote the in-depth application of digital dissemination in Zhejiang silk industry the article put forward the fourin-one digital dissemination development mode of "government guidance industry guidance market guidance and enterprise guidance" from the perspective of the Belt and Road. Firstly it is necessary for the government to strengthen the dissemination consciousness optimize the policy environment and enhance talent support and boost the confidence and ability of the silk industry to focus on digital dissemination. Secondly it is necessary to play the guiding role of Zhejiang silk industry in coordination dissemination and cooperation and enhance the conscious motivation of silk enterprises to apply digital dissemination. Thirdly it is necessary to highlight the market demand orientation and integrate digital technology digital personnel and digital content into the online information platform and offline information scene. Finally it is necessary to strengthen the cultural guiding function and construct physical and virtual cultural scenes to form the emotional resonance and cultural identity of the audience. Starting from the two dimensions of the Belt and Road perspective and digital dissemination context this paper investigates and analyzes the shortcomings of Zhejiang silk industry's application of digital dissemination and puts forward structural development countermeasures so as to shape the industrial image matching the silk industry and the core meaning of the Belt and Road Initiative and boost the organic integration of Zhejiang silk industry into the domestic and international double cycle. The 10-year history of the initiative is enough to prove that openness inclusiveness connectivity and common development are still the inner call of all countries in the world and promoting exchanges and mutual understanding is the driving force and foundation. The symbiotic form that "you have me I have you" calls for the reshaping of the relationship of information dissemination which is also the meaning of why digital dissemination is on the stage of history. The results of the research help the silk industry to examine the development opportunities and the mission of the times of the industry from the perspective of the Belt and Road face the reality that digital technology not only changes the way people socialize but provides new opportunities for industrial development and establish the belief of industrial internationalization and digitalization so as to enhance the competitiveness and vitality of the silk industry facing the world stage. CARBON emissions ,URBANIZATION ,GLOBAL warming ,FULLERENES ,PATH analysis (Statistics) ,LIVING conditions - Abstract
Significant carbon emissions, a key contributor to global climate warming, pose risks to ecosystems and human living conditions. It is crucial to monitor the spatial and temporal patterns of carbon emissions at the county level to reach the goals of carbon peak and neutrality. This study examines carbon emissions and economic and social problems data from 89 counties in Zhejiang Province. It employs analytical techniques such as LISA time path, spatio-temporal transition, and standard deviational ellipse to investigate the trends of carbon emissions from 2002 to 2022. Furthermore, it utilizes the GTWR model to evaluate the factors that influence these emissions on a county scale. The findings reveal the following: (1) The LISA time path analysis indicates a pronounced local spatial structure in the distribution of carbon emissions in Zhejiang Province from 2002 to 2022, characterized by increasing stability, notable path dependency, and some degree of spatial integration, albeit with a diminishing trend in overall integration. (2) The LISA spatio-temporal transition analysis indicates significant path dependency or lock-in effects in the county-level spatial clustering of carbon emissions. (3) Over the period 2002–2022, the centroid of carbon emissions in Zhejiang's counties mainly oscillated between 120°55′15″ E and 120°57′01″ E and between 29°55′52″ N and 29°59′11″ N, with a general northeastward shift forming a "V" pattern. This shift resulted in a stable "northeast–southwest" spatial distribution. (4) Factors such as population size, urbanization rate, and economic development level predominantly accelerate carbon emissions, whereas industrial structure tends to curb them. It is crucial to customize carbon mitigation plans to suit the circumstances of each county. This study provides insight into the spatial and temporal patterns of carbon emissions at the county level in Zhejiang Province. It offers crucial guidance for developing targeted and practical strategies to reduce carbon emissions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The construction of specialty towns is positioned as an important breakthrough and down-to-the-ground path in the implementation of China's new-type urbanization strategy. It highlights the roles of place-based industrial specialization and agglomeration economics. In this process, the Chinese government plays a supportive and guiding role in enabling and aligning multiple actors to engage with to build new platforms for innovation and entrepreneurial activities that integrate the functions of production, living, and ecology. The specialty towns construction strategy is aimed at promoting people-based urbanization and the regional ability of endogenous development. Given the "top-down" and standardization-led nature of the specialty towns policy program, implementation and practices at the local level are both challenging and problematic. This paper adopts perspectives and concepts from evolutionary economic geography and agglomeration economics to explore the antecedents and mechanisms of urbanization. It emphasizes the geographical spatiality of the program in local implementation. Taking 134 provincial specialty towns of Zhejiang province as research cases, the paper refers to a mixed set of methodologies of on-site, interview-based fieldwork; an online survey; and a document analysis to identify the historical foundations, industry attributes, and development objectives of the specialty towns. It also generates a typology of the 134 specialty towns, as well as a typological guideline regarding policy intervention for the broader implementation of specialty towns in China. Three main types of specialty towns are identified in our study: The first type is built on the basis of state-led, sci-tech industrial parks/new towns, whose development aims are oriented toward the development of new industrial paths. The second type is based on firm-led specialized markets located in small administrative towns that support the upgrading and renewal of existing local traditional industries. The third type is featured by the local presence of place-specific natural or sociocultural resources, and it is based on scenic spots. It is oriented to the development of the tourism economy. In conclusion, this study promotes the incorporation of evolutionary economic geography perspectives into the policy implementation of specialty towns and calls for taking the concepts of history, space, and place into account for a better understanding of these towns. By so doing, future policy methods will not be standardized, quota-based, and top-down.

The atmospheric low-level vortex is an important weather system that causes rainstorm and flood in southern China. The vortex induced rainstorm is sudden and local, and its occurence time, intensity and falling area have always been difficult for meteorological forecasting. In order to improve the accuracy of rainstorm prediction in Zhejiang Province and improve the localization application of the prediction model, based on daily precipitation data of Zhejiang Province from 1979 to 2020 and reanalysis dataset from the National Centers for Environmental Prediction Climate Forecast System, climatic characteristics of the heavy rain in Zhejiang Province induced by low-level vortex is studied, the vortex induced rainstorm in Zhejiang mostly occurs in the rainy season and has obvious interannual variation characteristics. Then, the 850 hPa vertical velocity, water vapor flux divergence, velocity divergence, low-level jet, shear line and 700 hPa vertical velocity are used as ingredient factors, and the potential falling area forecast for heavy rain induced by vortex is constructed by using logistic regression algorithm. Finally, the forecast products of the European Medium-Range Weather Prediction Center are used to forecast the rainstorm falling area based on this model, and the actual data of the same period are used for systematic test and weather process test. Results show that the overall performance of the model is good, and the rainstorm prediction ability of 24 h and 12 h ahead is improved, which can increase from 12% accuracy and 20% to around 14% and 40% respectively, and the omission rate drops from more than 75% to around 60%, but there is a certain degree of empty report. The forecast model of Zhejiang Province based on logistic regression method has a good indicator for the prediction of such rainstorm areas, and is of great significance for meteorological disaster prevention and mitigation.

AGRICULTURE , *SUSTAINABLE development , *PROFITABILITY , *NITROGEN - Abstract
Chinese agriculture is dominated by smallholder farms. To solve the problems of low agricultural profitability, low utilization efficiency of agricultural resources, and serious non-point source pollution in Zhejiang Province, this study analyzed the distribution of Zhejiang farmland, quantified the potential and spatial optimization path of large-scale farming, and combined farmland nitrogen balance and cost -benefit analysis to assess the impact of large-scale farming on agricultural production and environmental effects. The results showed that the average size of cropland in Zhejiang is 0.4 hm², and 70% of cropland is <0.6 hm² . Through land consolidation, 73% of the arable land reaches a contiguous area >16 hm² . Large-scale farming can reduce the nitrogen input by 53% and increase the nitrogen utilization efficiency from 38% to 56%. Agricultural labor demand can be reduced from 4 to 1 person per hectare, agricultural costs can be reduced by 77%, and the average agricultural labor productivity can be increased by approximately 9 457 yuan. Zhejiang has ideal resource conditions for the promotion of large-scale farming, and its implementation in the entire province can help improve the quality and efficiency of agricultural production and protect environmental resources. The government should strengthen policy guidance, increase financial support, and promote agricultural transformation, so that large-scale farming can improve the potential for sustainable agricultural development. - Abstract
The global decline in rural areas has made rural transformational development a subject of significant interest. The Characteristic Town (CT) strategy, a prominent aspect of China's recent urbanization efforts, focuses on innovative development methods to promote coordinated urban-rural growth and enhance capacity and quality. However, the mechanisms through which this strategy facilitates potential rural transformational development have not yet been investigated. This study addresses this gap by employing a case study approach, using desk research, participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and questionnaires. The findings indicate that environmental transformation, achieved through targeted planning, design, and construction, is a prerequisite for the CT strategy to stimulate rural transformational development. Subsequently, economic transformation is a crucial step, which includes establishing a sustainable and systematic economic industrial system, local marketing and promotion, and facilitating private sector participation. The strategy also generates social effects, such as a modest improvement in living standards, a lack of public participation, changes in residents' self-identity, and potential social estrangement between residents and newcomers. The rural transformational development driven by the CT strategy represents a process of creative destruction that progresses quickly, necessitating the consideration of various countermeasures. Taking Zhejiang province as an example, based on county-level economic and social statistics, we established an index system for main factors driving the development of the digital economy. We used entropy, spatial autocorrelation, a Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) model, and cluster analysis to explore the spatial differences between the development level and driving factors of the digital economy in Zhejiang. First, we observed spatial differences in the development of the digital economy in Zhejiang, with the level being high in the northeast and low in the southwest. Second, the influence of each driving factor represents strong spatial characteristics, and industrial innovation was the most important factor, with a distribution pattern of high in the east and low in the west. As a secondary driving factor, government input is consistent with the spatial layout of the economic factors. Commercial culture is strong in the south and weak in the north. Third, we observed multiple combinations of characteristics in the spatial differences of the four driving factors to establish the mechanism that drives the development of the digital economy in Zhejiang: the local digital economy/new business type is driven by the coupling of industrial innovation atmosphere and consumer demand, formed by developed market advantages. The three main bodies of consumers, government, and enterprises have formed a virtuous circle, promoting each other through the digitization of traditional industries and emerging digital industries, leading the development in the surrounding counties. Fourth, under the action of the four factors, three types of regional development types and 13 subcategories have generally been formed in Zhejiang: enterprise-consumer-led, business-government-led, government-consumer-led. Certain places, such as Hangzhou and Ningbo, are leading the implementation of the concept of digital development, creating the core of the digital economy in Zhejiang; Jiaxing and Jinhua are relying on transportation hub cities or global wholesale centers to rapidly develop intelligent logistics and transportation. In addition, with the support of the government, the later-developing areas are improving their infrastructure and developing the digital industry represented by ecology and tourism. For this reason, in the process of empowering digital economy development, complete attention should be paid to the development path of ecology, tourism, and other suitable digital industries in underdeveloped areas under the leadership of the government. We observed that enterprises and consumers create emerging digital industries in the leading areas of the digital economy in Zhejiang and then promote the digital transformation and upgrading of industries and governments. However, in the later-developing areas dominated by policy investment, the development of the digital economy is mostly oriented toward meeting the needs of industries and consumers, and the force driving emerging digital industries is weak.

Background Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is the main cause of gastric cancer, but with the increase of H. pylori antibiotic resistance, the eradication rate has not substantially improved in many areas. Objective To understand the H. pylori antibiotic resistance situation in Wenzhou from 2013—2020, and analyse the difference of H. pylori antibiotic resistance with time period, age and gender. Methods From 2013-01-01 to 2020-12-31, a total of 47 658 patients undergoing gastroscopy in Wenzhou Central Hospital were selected. Gastric mucosa specimens were collected for H. pylori isolation and culture, and the isolated H. pylori strains obtained from the culture were analyzed for drug susceptibility to six antibiotics, including levofloxacin, clarithromycin, amoxicillin, metronidazole, tetracycline and furazolidone. A chi-square test was used to compare H. pylori antibiotic resistance rate between years, age groups and sexes. Results Multiple antibiotic resistance existed in 16 847 H. pylori strains isolated in Wenzhou from 2013—2020. Separate statistics on the resistance rates of H. pylori to the six commonly used antibiotics revealed that the resistance rates to levofloxacin, clarithromycin and metronidazole were high in the region, respectively 32.81% (5 536/16 874) 、26.02% (4 390/16 874) 、95.67% (16 144/16 874) . The resistance rate to amoxicillin was low, only 0.28% (47/16 874) , and 1.36% (25/1 844) in 2017. No strains were found with resistance to tetracycline hydrochloride and furazolidone. From 2013 to 2020, there were statistically significant differences in H. pylori resistance rates to levofloxacin, clarithromycin and amoxicillin (P88.00%) with no statistical difference (P>0.05) . There was statistically significant difference in the H. pylori resistance rate for evofloxacin, clarithromycin and metronidazole between female and male (P0.05) . There was statistically significant difference in the H. pylori resistance rate for levofloxacin or clarithromycin among different age groups in the region (P0.05) . Conclusion The H. pylori antibiotic resistance rate differed by year, and varied across different age and sex groups of H. pylori-positive cases in Wenzhou during the period. The overall H. pylori resistance rate was high. The eradication regimens based on metronidazole, clarithromycin or levofloxacin are difficult to achieve satisfactory results, so clinical H. pylori eradication treatment based on drug sensitivity test results should be encouraged.

Urban land use/land cover (LULC) monitoring and prediction are vital for understanding the spatiotemporal change dynamics of future land uses. They provide the necessary data for effectively planning and managing natural land resources. In this study, we analyzed and simulated the changes in urban LULC within Zhejiang Province, a region in China experiencing rapid urbanization. By exploring the historical change dynamics of the region, we observed substantial transformations in the extent of built-up areas, forests, and agricultural land from 1995 to 2020. Specifically, the study area witnessed the expansion in urban built-up areas by approximately 6126.93 km
2 , while forests and agricultural land witnessed decreases of 3252.47 km2 and 2885.13 km2 , respectively. To predict the study area's future LULC, a cellular automata (CA) model was utilized in combination with an advanced patch-generating land use simulation (PLUS) model. This integrated approach allowed for multiple land use predictions based on different scenarios. Under the baseline scenario (BLS), it was projected that the area of urban expansion in Zhejiang Province would be approximately 4501.62 km2 . However, under the scenario of cultivated land and ecological protection, i.e., CLPS and EPS, urban growth was observed to be 538.64 km2 and 1776.16 km2 , respectively. These findings indicate that the extent of built-up area development in Zhejiang Province is significantly reduced when the CLPS and EPS are implemented in comparison to the BLS. Therefore, policy interventions are crucial to protect agricultural land and conserve ecological areas. This research provides the scientific data needed for proper planning and serves as reference data for other regions with similar rapid urbanization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

Two new species of Ochlodes Scudder, 1872, Ochlodes pseudochraceus Zhu, Fan & Wang, sp. nov. and Ochlodes cryptochraceus Zhu, Fan & Chiba, sp. nov., are found in China and described, and Ochlodes rikuchina (Butler, 1878) stat. rev. is restored. A lectotype is designated for Pamphila ochracea Bremer, 1861, and a neotype is designated for Pamphila rikuchina Butler, 1878. Overall, the two new species are similar to Ochlodes ochraceus (Bremer, 1861). They, however, can be distinguished from the latter and other species in the genus: O. pseudochraceus has long radial spots in spaces R3-5, and the lateral process of the phallus gradually widens at the distal half in male genitalia; O. cryptochraceus has the lateral process of the phallus enlarged only at the distal tip. Based on the phylogenetic analyses of the mitochondrial COI gene, members of currently defined O. ochraceus are grouped into four clades. The genetic distances between O. pseudochraceus and O. ochraceus, O. cryptochraceus and O. ochraceus, O. rikuchina and O. ochraceus, and O. pseudochraceus and O. cryptochraceus are 3.2%, 2.1%, 1.9%, and 2.7%, respectively. Based on the molecular and morphological evidence, O. pseudochraceus, O. cryptochraceus, and O. rikuchina are treated to be distinct species. The adult habitus and male and female genitalia of the new species are illustrated as well as those of O. ochraceus and O. rikuchina. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

(3) Over the period 2002–2022, the centroid of carbon emissions in Zhejiang’s counties mainly oscillated between 120°55′15″ E and 120°57′01″ E and between 29°55′52″ N and 29°59′11″ N, with a general northeastward shift forming a “V” pattern. This shift resulted in a stable “northeast–southwest” spatial distribution.

Cholera caused by Vibrio cholerae O139 was first reported in Bangladesh and India in 1992. To determine the genomic epidemiology and origins of O139 in China, we sequenced 104 O139 isolates collected from Zhejiang Province, China, during 1994–2018 and compared them with 57 O139 genomes from other countries in Asia. Most Zhejiang isolates fell into 3 clusters (C1–C3), which probably originated in India (C1) and Thailand (C2 and C3) during the early 1990s. Different clusters harbored different antimicrobial resistance genes and IncA/C plasmids. The integrative and conjugative elements carried by Zhejiang isolates were of a new type, differing from ICEVchInd4 and SXTMO10 by single-nucleotide polymorphisms and presence of genes. Quinolone resistance–conferring mutations S85L in parC and S83I in gyrA occurred in 71.2% of the Zhejiang isolates. The ctxB copy number differed among the 3 clusters. Our findings provided new insights for prevention and control of O139 cholera .

Carbon abatement efforts in China are penetrating to sub-national level. Zhejiang province, as the 4th wealthy region in China and important player in global market (e.g., textiles, cloth, petroleum, and chemical products), lacks in-depth study of its climate change mitigation efforts, especially after China's accession to the WTO in 2001. This paper analyzed carbon emissions and intensity in Zhejiang province using most comprehensive and time-series dataset available to date since 2002. Its carbon emissions were growing at a declining speed, and carbon intensity was almost halved. The leading emitters largely agglomerate around Hangzhou Bay, close to Zhoushan Port and Shanghai Port. The growth in absolute emissions primarily arose from higher investment (323.1 Mt) and exports (280.6 Mt), while the slower growth was mainly due to efficiency improvements (− 245.7 Mt) stemming from energy and carbon abatement policies and inflows of emission-intensive products from the rest of China. Similarly, declined carbon intensity was mainly attributed to efficiency improvement. Major contributors were sector S13-Non-metallic minerals, S12-Chemicals, S26-Transport, storage and post, S07-Textiles, and S10-Paper. Economic restructuring played different roles on emissions and intensity during various development stages. Policy implications of the findings are discussed for future developments. Geological events and landscape features, as well as changes in the climate during the Pliocene period, have shaped the distribution of genetic diversity and demographic history of freshwater fish in mainland China. In this study, we investigated the phylogeny and population genetic structure of Acrossocheilus species (A. fasciatus, A. kreyenbergii and A. wenchowensis) in the Zhejiang region by the mitochondrial cytochrome b (cyt-b) and control (D-loop) region s. Mitochondrial phylogenetic analysis revealed three major lineages (lineages A, B and C), which may represent A. fasciatus, A. wenchowensis and A. kreyenbergii, respectively. Our results revealed that A. fasciatus and A. wenchowensis diverged from A. kreyenbergii in the Zhejiang region. The uplift of the Wuyi Mountains and the Xianxia Mountains served as an important geographic barrier in the diversification of the three Acrossocheilus species. The most recent common ancestors (TMRCAs) of the three lineages and lineages A + B were dated to 1.859 and 1.614 myr, respectively. Our results indicate that the effective population sizes of A. fasciatus and A. wenchowensis remained constant from the past to the present, as supported by ABC analysis. For conservation and protection, a strategy is required because of their genetic uniqueness, and we suggest that the two regions divided by the Xianxia Mountains be regarded as different management units (Mus), conforming to the major zoological regions of the Zhejiang region. Background: This study aims to investigate the serum fat-soluble vitamins A, D, and E levels of children in Zhejiang Province, and to provide a reference range of fat-soluble vitamins for children in Zhejiang Province. Methods: Between May 2019 and December 2019, 871 children who sent peripheral blood samples to Hangzhou Biozon Medical Institute Co., Ltd. for fat-soluble vitamin A, D, and E analysis were selected, including 432 boys and 439 girls. After the peripheral blood was collected, the serum A, D, and E levels were measured, and the differences in age, gender, season, and region were compared. Results: With age, the level of vitamin A gradually increased (p < 0.01), and vitamin D2, D3, and total vitamin D all increased first and then decreased. Vitamin A (131.79 ± 47.05 ng/mL vs. 121.96 ± 41.01 ng/mL) and E (5.87 ± 2.23 μg/mL vs. 5.56 ± 2.13 μg/mL) levels of girls were higher than boys (p < 0.01), and vitamin D3 (15.25 ± 6.16 ng/mL vs.15.17 ± 7.26 ng/mL) and total vitamin D (18.09 ± 7.01 ng/mL vs. 17.03 ± 8.79 ng/mL) levels of boys were higher than girls (p < 0.01). From the perspective of regional distribution, the levels of vitamin A, D2, and E in Ningbo were higher than those in Hangzhou and other regions. The seasonal distribution of vitamin A and E levels were highest in summer, while vitamin D3 and D levels were highest in fall. The average vitamin concentrations were as follows: vitamin A was (126.81 ± 44.42) ng/mL; vitamin D2 was (1.84 ± 3.16) ng/mL, vitamin D3 was (15.71 ± 6.75) ng/mL, total vitamin D was (17.55 ± 7.91) ng/mL, and vitamin E was (5.72 ± 2.19) μg/mL. The reference value ranges of vitamin A, D2, D3, D, and E were (52.44 - 222.27) ng/mL, (0.01 - 11.66) ng/mL, (4.92 - 30.96) ng/mL, (4.92 - 30.96) ng/mL, and (2.66 - 10.92) μg/mL, respectively. Conclusions: The childrens' fat soluble vitamin levels in Zhejiang province show significant differences in age, gender, season, and regional distribution. Corresponding reference standards should be formulated as soon as possible, and vitamin supplements should be targeted and reasonable to ensure the healthy development of children. This study investigates the characteristics of tropical cyclones (TCs) that cause extreme hourly precipitation (EXHP) in Zhejiang, China, using datasets from 67 national stations (Con-ST) and 1551 surface stations (All-ST), spanning 1973–2020 and 2011–2020, respectively. Our analysis revealed notable variations in the EXHP caused by individual TCs. The top 10 % of TCs contributed 37.2–38 % of the total TC-induced EXHP amount, while the bottom 50 % only accounted for 5.8–22.7 %. Using sparse stations may overestimate the impact of TCs causing EXHP in the lower to middle rankings. Long-term trend analysis suggested a consistent increase in TC-induced EXHP despite a decreasing trend in the number of TCs affecting Zhejiang. High-value EXHP centers tended to be concentrated in mountainous areas within 0–50 km from the coastline, where Con-ST stations are sparse and can significantly underestimate EXHP. The maximum amount of EXHP per TC increased logarithmically with the number of observation stations. In Zhejiang, EXHP predominantly occurred northeast of the TC centers (50.4–61.7 %) and within 500 km from the TC center (69.5–81.5 %). High-frequency EXHP centers exhibited a clockwise rotation with increasing distance from the TC center–a pattern resembling a "spiral rainband." A key area where most EXHP in Zhejiang occurred when TC centers remained within this area was identified. The TC intensity within the key area was a key factor influencing EXHP occurrence in Zhejiang, whereas the duration of TC center residence within the key area and the distance of its movement were crucial predictors of significant EXHP occurrence. The analysis of large-scale environmental fields revealed that high-EXHP TCs are characterized by strong upper-level divergence, intense upward motion, and an expanded subtropical high. The southeasterly steering airflow drives these TCs northwestward, prolonging their impact on Zhejiang and resulting in significant moisture accumulation and EXHP. • From 1973 to 2020, 134 out of 208 tropical cyclones (TCs) affecting Zhejiang caused extreme hourly precipitation (EXHP) • Sparse station data can overestimate the impact of lower to middle-ranking TCs on EXHP in Zhejiang • High-value EXHP centers near coastlines (0–50 km) in mountainous areas are underestimated by sparse national stations • The maximum accumulated EXHP from TCs increased logarithmically with the number of observation stations • TC intensity and duration were crucial predictors of EXHP occurrence and magnitude, respectively [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective To establish a management information system (referred to as the system) for plasma collection stations in Zhejiang province, so as to explore the current situation of plasma donors and implement effective supervision in Zhejiang. Methods The system was developed and connected to four plasma collection stations that were officially operating in Zhejiang in terms of plasma station setting and approval, as well as the publicity, recruitment and management of plasma donors, information management of the whole process of plasma collection, management of deferral plasma donors, plasma quality management and administrative supervision etc. Relevant plasma donor information was uploaded to the system by each plasma station, and information before (January 2016 to December 2020) and after (January 8, 2021 to June 2021) the system was collected. Information included the number of plasma donors/donations, demographic information of eligible plasma donors in the past 5 years, the type of plasma donors, and the deferral donors after the system was activated. The online approval of Plasma Donation Certificate and the intelligent supervision of key points of plasma apheresis stations in Zhejiang were also conducted. The frequency and composition ratio were described, and chi-square test was used for statistical analysis. Results The system (V1.0) was established and was officially launched on January 8, 2021, realizing the interconnection of blood donation and plasma donation information as well as the unified management of 24 quality indicators. Since the system was applied (January 8, 2021-June 2021), the proportion of donors both donated blood and plasma over the province was 3.56 (832/23 389), and 352 deferred donors were masked by the system. And 30.11% (106/352) , who intended to donate plasma, were deferred due to insufficient interval after blood donation; 11.65% (41/352) due to permanent masking in blood donations; 23.86% (23.86%) , who intended to donate blood, were deferred due to insufficient interval after plasma donation ( 84/352); 34.38% (121/352) due to permanent masking in plasma donations. The median approval rate of four plasma stations applying for Plasma Donation Certificate before the system (January 1, 2016 to January 7, 2021) and after the system (January 8 to June 2021) were 93.38% (10 609/11 361) vs 99.50% (2 602/2 615). Before the system was put into launch, the ratio of male to female donors and the proportion of regular donors showed an overall upward trend, while the age decreased slightly. The median proportion of women in the past 5 years was 61.52 %, significantly higher than that in last 6 months after the launch(58.86%). Conclusion The application of the system can realize information interconnection between blood centers and plasma collection stations in Zhejiang as well as the real-time supervision of plasma collection process, which is helpful to overcome the shortcomings in plasma donor management.

The Characteristic Town (CT) program is one of the most notable strategies in China's urbanization process in recent years, responding to the drawbacks of the past decades of crude urbanization development model and maintaining and promoting capital accumulation and economic growth with innovative approach to space production. However, no studies have been conducted to examine whether residents actually benefit from it. Therefore, we combined desk research, participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and questionnaires to evaluate its influence on residents in two representative cases in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, where the program originated. The results show limited improvement in public benefits: a general but insignificant improvement in the living standard of the residents; residents' public participation is generally lacking; residents' cognition of self-identity has begun to appear deviation, and barriers between them and foreign workers have begun to emerge; residents' assessment of the new development strategy varies from case to case. Compared to other urban and rural redevelopment, renewal, and construction practices around the world, the CT program does not seem to appear to be overly special or advanced in terms of securing and enhancing public benefits. To this end, this study concluded that it is necessary to consider the need to adopt an official evaluation system that attaches equal importance to economic, environmental, and social factors, further strengthen the supervision of local financial expenditure, effectively strengthen the role of the public, improve infrastructure and public service facilities, and enhance the comprehensive training of indigenous people. - Abstract
Developed regions in China have experienced rapid urban expansion and have consequently induced a series of challenging environmental issues since its economic reform and opening-up. Taking Zhejiang as a case study area, the present paper explores the complex types of urban growth over the last four decades as well as land use efficiency. Moreover, it discusses the implications of the aforementioned on China national territorial spatial planning (TSP). The acquired results have shown that: 1) urban expansion has slowed down, exhibiting a three-stage trend of "slight increase (1980–1990)——dramatic growth (1990–2010)——slow growth (after 2010)"; 2) the complex types of urban growth reveal that the urban diffusion has been gradually controlled and the urban form tends to be more condensed; and 3) the mean values for pure technical efficiency (PTE) and scale efficiency (SE) of urban land use are 0.83 and 0.95 respectively, indicating PTE as the main factor restricting the improvement of urban land use. Based on these results, some beneficial policy implications and suggestions for TSP are provided. First, it is suggested that "Inventory Planning" will be the main direction of TSP other than "Incremental Planning". Secondly, we should pay more attention to the protection of cultivated land and ecological resources. Lastly, TSP should guide the economic growth away from simply relying on resource inputs and steer it toward technology and capital investment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Zhejiang province marine waters are a significant place of commercial fisheries in China as these resources are rich in fish fauna. However, decreased fish biomass catch has been observed during recent years, putting a big question about the ongoing stock status of commercial fisheries. Therefore, this paper strives to appraise the population dynamics of Trichiurus lepturus in Zhejiang, China which would help fishery managers. For this, authentic data, 1999 - 2018, collected from Fishery Yearbooks of China was statistically evaluated through depletion models (DMs). In principle, three models, viz., Fox (FM), Schaefer (SM), and Pella-Tomlinson (PTM) of surplus production models (SPMs), a specialized form of DMs, were used and compared for getting the better-fitted model to draw results. SPMs were applied with the help of computer-based fishery analysis software, i.e., catch and effort data analysis (CEDA) and a stock production model incorporating covariates (ASPIC). In the principle initial portion (IP = 0.9), CEDA output showed higher values of maximum sustainable yield (MSY) (480000 - 614000 t) as compared to ASPIC (468000 - 583000 t). Similarly, R2 values followed the pattern of estimation with MSY. Research findings signpost overexploitation of T. lepturus. Therefore, it is recommended to lower the catch quantity of T. lepturus to safeguard this fishery resource for the future. Besides, further analogous research is strongly advised prior to making or executing any administration strategy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BackgroundDue to repeated COVID-19 outbreaks worldwide, COVID-19 containment in China has become a routine social issue, entering a new phase of containment, and residents' health literacy about infection disease prevention and treatment has obtained increasing attentions.ObjectiveTo explore the health literacy about infection disease prevention and treatment in residents of Taizhou, Zhejiang during 2017—2020, and to analyze the trend of changes as well as influencing factors, providing scientific evidence for the precise implementation of actions for achieving "Healthy Taizhou 2030".MethodsThis study was implemented from 2017 to 2020 with Taizhou permanent residents aged between 15 and 69 selected using multistage random sampling, for investigating their demographics, socioeconomic features and health literacy about infection disease prevention and treatment using the National Residents' Health Literacy Monitoring Questionnaire developed by us. In January 2021, the data of health literacy about infection disease prevention and treatment of residents in Taizhou City in four years was analyzed. The health literacy data during 2017—2020 were comparatively analyzed after being processed with weight standardization, and the trend of changes during the period was analyzed using a Chi-squared test for linear trend. Binary logistic regression was used for identifying factors associated with relevant health literacy of these residents in 2020.ResultsThe number of respondents for the survey conducted in four consecutive years from 2017 to 2020, was 3 595, 5 389, 5 929, and 5 847, respectively. The samples in the four yearly surveys showed basically similar demographics, with those aged 45-54 (27.42%-30.46%) , education level was junior high school (27.78%-29.93%) , occupation was farmer (44.52%-58.03%) accounting for the largest proportion. The urban to rural population ratio for the sample of four consecutive yearly surveys was 0.50∶1, 0.55∶1, 0.54∶1 and 0.52∶1, respectively. And the male to female ratio was 1∶1, 0.95∶1, 0.99∶1 and 0.94∶1, respectively. The prevalence of having health literacy about infection disease prevention and treatment for 2017—2020 was 7.86% (642/3 595) , 19.00% (1 024/5 389) , 19.51% (1 157/5 929) , and 27.14% (1 587/5 847) , respectively. After the data were processed with weight standardization, the prevalence of health literacy regarding infectious disease prevention and treatment in 15-69-year-old residents in 2017—2020 was 22.25%, 24.72%, 25.34% and 33.14%, respectively. The health literary level regarding infectious disease prevention and treatment in the residents showed a successive linear increment during the study period regardless of living in rural or urban areas, sex, age (except for 65-69 year olds) , and education level (except for illiteracy/lower illiteracy) , and occupation (P

Water pollution is closely related to the development of water pollution-intensive industries, but there is a lack of relevant research, and few studies to verify the existence of “pollution heaven.” This paper aims to study the layout and the spatio-temporal evolution of water-polluting enterprises. Taking Zhejiang Province, China as an example, this study visualized the spatial distribution of water pollution enterprises under the “Five Water Treatment” regulations during 2018–2022. At the same time, based on the Mann-Whitney U test, this paper verifies the hypothesis of pollution paradise in Zhejiang Province. The results show that the distribution of water pollution enterprises in Zhejiang is clustered, and water pollution control has been realized to a certain extent. However, water pollution enterprises still tend to be located in areas with lower environmental standards and weak environmental regulations. In view of this, the government should optimize the industry structure, strengthen the supervision of suburban water pollution enterprises.

This paper focuses on the regional inequality of resident income in local China at the county or district level, and Zhejiang Province is set as the empirical case. It takes a geographic approach to detect the spatial distribution pattern of resident income, and explore the relationship with regional-specific socio-economic factors. The analytical framework proposed by us has been proved appropriate by the case study. Our study results show that in terms of the resident income level, there exists great regional gap in Zhejiang with the northeast wealthy cluster and much poorer cluster in the southwest. The disposable income of residents is mainly determined by commerce prosperity, urban intensity and technological capacity of local areas, while the effect of regional income, household deposits and industrial production are much less or no significant. Our findings for Zhejiang lead us to suggest that those local states seeking to improve people's livelihood and income should not solely rely on the industrial or manufacturing expansion, but pay more attention to business environment, urban construction and indigenous innovation. Also, to narrow the significant regional gap of resident income, extra efforts should be made to push the regional cooperation system in economic development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
