[Objective] As an innovative way of regulating territorial space, the planning of flexible space is of great significance for improving the scientific quality and effectiveness of spatial planning, and reducing the disturbance and impact of uncertain factors. This study aimed to explore the delineation of land use layout flexible space under uncertain conditions. [Methods] The study took Xuzhou City, a typical resource-based city, as an example. First, an interval optimization model was used to obtain the flexible quantity interval of various land use types. Then, the upper and lower limits of the interval served as the quantity demand to import the PLUS model to simulate the spatial layout of various land use types, and the difference between the two simulated layouts was designated as flexible space. [Results] The results show that: (1) There are differences in the size of the flexible quantity interval of each land use type, among which land use types that contribute more to addressing future uncertainty are rural residential land, farmland, water, urban industrial and mining land, while the smaller ones are grassland and bare land. (2) The flexible space distribution of various land use types shows a certain pattern, and the flexible space of farmland is concentrated in the hotspots of land use change around urban and rural areas, the flexible space of garden plot and woodland is distributed in suitable growth areas such as river banks and low hills, and the flexible space of urban industrial and mining land and rural residential land is mainly distributed in the outer edge areas of their original scope. (3) Based on the flexible space of each land use type, the land types were merged according to the zoning function of the planning, and the conflicting parts of the flexible space were processed according to the suitability to obtain the flexible space of different spatial planning zones. Among them, the flexible space areas of agricultural production zones, ecological protection zones, urban construction zones, and rural development zones account for 1.74%, 0.20%, 1.09%, and 3.31% of the total area, respectively. [Conclusion] The probability distribution of possible conflicts in land use space is the prerequisite for the delineation of flexible space. It is necessary to delineate flexible space of land use layout from an uncertain perspective. Based on interval optimization and PLUS model, the delineation method of flexible space proposed in this study seems feasible, which can provide support for planning decisions.

Building a carbon ecological security (CES) framework helps to scientifically evaluate and manage the regional carbon cycle and eco-environment and support regional ecological security patterns. This paper adopted the pressure-state-response-immune (PSRI) model and the carbon balance index method to evaluate the ecological quality and carbon balance pressure. Then, based on the decoupling model and the improved four-quadrant model, the CES framework was constructed to evaluate the changing trend of the CES of Xuzhou City from 2005 to 2020. The results showed that the carbon balance pressure of Xuzhou City showed a pattern of "low-high-low" from east to west, and most areas tended to have a carbon balance and surplus in 2020. The ecological quality showed an overall upward trend during the study period. Protection and restoration drove the response and immune index growth from 2010 to 2020. In the Thirteenth Five-Year Plan stage, the nine districts of Xuzhou City were in a stable decoupling state, and the overall decoupling process was ideal. The CES of districts showed individual differences in the general upward trend. The carbon balance pressure of Gulou and Quanshan Districts was the main factor restricting the districts' CES. Therefore, based on the empirical results, this research proposes relevant suggestions to enhance carbon ecological security to achieve regional green and low-carbon development. In recent years, the issue of air pollution has garnered significant public attention globally, with a particular emphasis on the challenge of atmospheric fine particulate matter (PM2.5) pollution. The efficient and precise simulation of changes in pollutant concentrations, as well as their spatial and temporal distribution, is essential for effectively addressing the air pollution issue. In this paper, the WRF-Chem model is used to simulate the meteorological elements including temperature (T), relative humidity (RH), wind speed (WS), and pressure (P), and the concentrations of PM2.5 and PM10 atmospheric pollutants in December 2020 in Xuzhou City. Simultaneously, the ADMS-Urban model was employed to conduct a higher spatial resolution study of PM2.5 concentrations during the heavy pollution days of 11–12 December 2020 in Xuzhou City. The study shows that the WRF-Chem model can simulate the meteorological conditions of the study time period better, and the correlation coefficients (R) of pressure, temperature, wind speed, and relative humidity are 0.99, 0.87, 0.75, and 0.70, respectively. The WRF-Chem model can accurately simulate the PM2.5 concentration on clean days (R of 0.66), but the simulation of polluted days is not satisfactory. Therefore, the ADMS-Urban model was chosen to simulate the PM2.5 concentration on polluted days in the center of Xuzhou City. The ADMS-Urban model can simulate the distribution characteristics and concentration changes of PM2.5 around roads and buildings in the center of Xuzhou City. Comparing the simulation results of the two models, it was found that the two models have their own advantages in PM2.5 concentration simulation, and how to better couple the two models is the next research direction. Urban development boundary (UDB) has always served as a crucial aspect of urban sprawl research. The objective of this paper is to investigate boundary delineation and carbon emission effects. Firstly, we examined the patterns of land use changes. Additionally, this paper utilized the FLUS model and land use carbon emission calculation model to delineate UDB and calculate carbon emission effects within UDB under typical scenarios. The research results are as follows: (1) Xuzhou city witnessed a significant increase in both forest land and construction land from 2010 to 2020. (2) Under the CPS, the area of cultivated land increased by 217.05 km2 compared to the NDS. The UDB area under the NDS and CPS was 971.50 km2 and 968.99 km2, respectively. (3) Compared to the NDS, the CPS led to a net carbon emission increase of 4759.93 t within the UDB. Therefore, we should enhance the carbon sequestration and emission reduction capacity of the agricultural system. Water resources, as an essential natural resource, plays an irreplaceable role in the ecological environment, social economy, and human survival. Water resource carrying capacity (WRCC), as an important indicator of sustainable development, has been widely used to assess the capacity of water resources to support economic and social development. Using Xuzhou City as a case study, the sustainable capacity of water resources in the current (from 2012 to 2020) and future (projected scenarios in 2025 and 2030) stages were investigated by constructing a multi-level fuzzy-based evaluation model. The results indicated that the average WRCC score is 0.4388 in Xuzhou City, ranging from 0.2908 to 0.6330, with a significant decline in the score value of 0.4644 in 2019 but an apparent improvement in WRCC from 2012 to 2020. However, the continued pressure on water resources sustainable development is unchanged in Xuzhou, according to the projected assessment of WRCC in 2025 and 2030. Overall, the WRCC in Xuzhou City will be overloaded under future development scenarios, i.e., sustainable development mode (Scenario A), water conservation mode (Scenario B), rapid socioeconomic development mode (Scenario C), and adjustment of industrial structure mode (Scenario D). Thus, several measures, such as industrial restructuring and water conservation and utilization, should be conducted to enhance the carrying capacity of regional water resources and ensure the quality and sustainability of regional social and economic development. The results can provide a reference for the rational utilization of water resources in Xuzhou and are of some significance in promoting the city's coordinated socioeconomic growth. Mining minerals plays a fundamental role in promoting social-economic progress. Intensive mining operations. However, it also brings huge ecological risks, and may lead to significant changes in land use/land cover (LULC), further affecting the urban landscape and ecological environment. Based on changes in LULC from 2000 to 2020 in the Jiawang district, a resource-based city, this study uses an ecological risk assessment as the theoretical basis for evaluating regional landscape ecological risk. The results show that: (1) From 2000 to 2020 significant changes in LULC were the increase the areas of built-up land and those covered with water, and decreases occurred in the cultivated, industrial, and mining land areas. The conversion of industrial and mining lands to areas of water is a noteworthy ecological compensation area. (2) Over the past two decades, the average ecological risk in the study area was 0.19, 0.21, and 0.14, in 2000, 2010 and 2020, respectively, first increasing and then decreasing. The area ratio of the lowest-risk ecological risk areas dropped from 31.60% to 4.00%. (3) The global Moran's I values in 2000, 2010, and 2020 were 0.6047, 0.6280, and 0.6392, respectively. The positive values indicate that the autocorrelation and spatial aggregation of ecological risks in Jiawang district gradually increased. This study can provide a basis for other resource-based cities to rationally allocate land resources and manage urban ecological risks.

The multi-functionality and the finiteness of land resources collectively determine the inevitable space conflicts among urban construction space (SUC), grain production space (SGP), and ecological protection space (SEP) in planning. Moreover, the increasing urban expansion is expected to further exacerbate these conflicts. However, there is a lack of research on solving space conflicts in planning under the multi-objective. Given this, taking Xuzhou City as an example, using planning data, we analyzed the patterns of space conflicts. Then we proposed a novel method to extract the urban moderate boundary (UMB) based on the principle of value equilibrium. Finally, using UMB as the space boundary to solve the conflicts. The results show that we detected three types of space conflicts, namely construction-production conflicts (CPC), construction-ecological conflicts (CEC), and production-ecological conflicts (PEC), with an area of 17.31 km2, 14.13 km2, and 3.24 km2 of each conflicting area respectively. The land value corresponding to the UMB is 941.90 yuan / km2. The CPC and CEC within the UMB should be reserved as SUC, those outer parts of the boundary should be reserved as SGP and SEP. The PEC should be reserved as SEP according to the principle of ecological priority. After conflict resolution, the new layout of urban functional space was obtained, showing an area of 240.18 km2, 42.56 km2, and 55.35 km2 for SUC, SGP, and SEP, respectively. The new perspective and method proposed in this paper can provide a reference for urban planning and urban functional space layout optimization.

The urban heat island (UHI) effect is an important issue in urban planning. In this study, the framework of the land surface temperature (LST) and UHIindex for urban development land (UDL) based on urban planning in China was proposed to examine the spatiotemporal evolution of the LST and the UHIindex for the whole city as well as the LST and the UHIindex of UDL at four node stages (1995, 2003, 2014 and 2019), reflecting the process of urbanization. The results demonstrate that the UHIindex showed an overall trend of first decreasing and then increasing in the process of urbanization over 2 decades. The UHI is characterized by the evolution of spatial distribution from a local point-like aggregation (1995) to a linear expansion along the urban construction land (2003), then to patchy areas tending towards overall homogeneous coverage gradually expanding (2019). The LST increased yearly, but the UHIindex first decreased and then increased, while the average UHIindex and the LST of UDL in the overall relationship maintained good consistency each year. The industrial and logistics concentration area with railway marshalling yard as the core area is the most important patch to maintain the urban thermal pattern. The results provide a quantitative basis for the thermal environmental planning of UDL and a reference for research on UHI under different land planning and management systems in other countries and regions of the world. In this paper, The ecotourism environmental capacity model was established from ecological capacity, spatial capacity, facility capacity and psychological capacity to estimate the ecotourism environmental capacity of YunLong Lake, DaLong Lake and JiuLi Lake in Xuzhou city. The results showed that: (1) The ecotourism environment capacity of YunLong lake, DaLong lake and JiuLi lake was respectively 15022-24072 thousand persons/year, 5646-8096 thousand persons/year, and 2517-3634 thousand persons/year. An early warning mechanism for the peak season human flow should be put forward according that the current annual statistics of the three wetland parks had exceeded the minimum limit and not reached the maximum limit; (2) The restriction factors of water environmental capacity of the three wetland parks were different, so different treatment plans should be put forward according to the situation of pollutants, so as to improve the water environment quality and environment capacity of ecotourism. Watching-bird capacity was the limiting factor of the ecological capacity of the three wetland parks; (3) The limiting factor of facility capacity of each wetland park was mainly parking space. Increasing the number of parking space without destroying the environment was the key factor to improve the facility capacity and even the environmental capacity of the three wetland parks. Electric bicycles (e-bicycles) are a primary means of commuting in China because of their light weight, speed, and low maintenance costs. Owing to short service life and environmental pollution hazards, recycling and reuse of e-bicycle batteries has always been a focus of industry and academia. As a typical case of both production and use of large electric bicycles, 113 major sellers, 378 corporate and individual buyers, 147 large e-bicycle repair centers, and 1317 e-bicycle owners in Xuzhou City were investigated in order to understand the sales, use, recycling, and disposal of spent e-bicycle batteries. The findings show that the existing distempered recycling system is the main limitation of spent battery recovery, and the actual recovery rate of spent batteries is lower than the estimated output ( QW ) for the years 2011–2014. Electric bicycle sellers play a fundamental role in the collection of spent batteries in Xuzhou, accounting for 42.3 ± 8.3% of all batteries recovered. The widespread use of lithium batteries in recent years has resulted in a reduction in spent battery recycling because of lower battery prices. Furthermore, consumer preferences are another important factor affecting the actual recovery rate according to survey results evaluated using canonical correspondence analysis. In this paper, we suggest that a reverse logistics network system for spent battery recycling should be established in the future; in addition, enhancing producer responsibility, increasing publicity, raising of public awareness, developing green public transport, and reducing dependence on e-bicycles also should be pursued. This study reports a detailed examination of the magnetic mineralogy of street dust samples collected in Xuzhou, a heavily industrial city in China. Several different approaches have been utilized in the characterization, from standard mineral magnetic techniques such as magnetic hysteresis and microscopy to non-standard techniques such as Mössbauer spectroscopy. Magnetic properties and the concentrations of four metals including Cu, Zn, Ba and Pb were reported for each sample. The primary magnetic mineral was found to be multidomain magnetite-like material. Scanning electron microscope analyses of street dust revealed: spherule-shaped iron oxides and angular particles with complex chemical composition. The concentrations of Cu, Zn, Pb and Ba were 3, 4.8, 2.8 and 1.3 times higher, respectively, than the soil background values of this study area. Both Cu and Ba showed significant correlations with the magnetic concentration parameters χ ARM (susceptibility of anhysteretic remanent magnetization) and saturation isothermal remanent magnetization. This paper principally focuses on the morphological differences, spatial pattern and regional types of rural settlements in Xuzhou City of Jiangsu Province in China. Using satellite images of Xuzhou City taken in 2007 and 2008 and models of exploratory spatial data analysis (ESDA) and spatial metrics, the paper conducts a quantitative analysis of the morphological pattern of rural settlements, and finds significant characteristics. First, rural settlements in Xuzhou City are significantly agglomerated in terms of their spatial distribution; meanwhile, there is significant variation in the geographical density distribution. Second, the scale of rural settlements in Xuzhou City is larger than the average in Jiangsu Province, and the histogram of the scale data is more even and more like a gamma distribution. There are a significant high-value cluster in the scale distribution, and local negative correlation between the scale and density distribution of rural settlements in Xuzhou City. Third, the morphology of rural settlements in Xuzhou City shows relative regularity with good connection and integrity, but the spatial variation of the morphology is anisotropic. Finally, according to the characteristics of density, scale, and form of rural settlements, the rural settlements of Xuzhou City are divided into three types: A high-density and point-scattered type, a low-density and cluster-like type and a mass-like and sparse type. Highlights: • The sports services in urban parks are valued. • We demonstrated a new approach for estimating sports services based on social network data. • Evaluation models were constructed for the monetary valuation of sports services. • Massive social network data could be mined for calculating the sports services. Abstract Access to sports and fitness activities is vital for individual well-being in crowded and stressful modern cities, but there has been little research exploring the valuation of sports services within cultural ecosystem services. The availability of social network data from mobile personal training applications opens the door to a new basis for research. For this paper, we used 934 data samples collected by the Codoon fitness application from October 2016 to September 2017 to develop a model for the valuation of sports services at Yunlong Lake–Yunlong Mountain Park. This model utilized data regarding the duration of exercise and the average hourly fee charged by a gym, along with the efficiency coefficient, the sports preference coefficient, and the income reduction method. The results of our proposed model showed that the value of sports services for the 934 sampled users was 47,624.92 CNY (7,286.61 USD; 1 CNY = 0.153 USD). The average values for the 839 running samples and 95 walking samples were 48.41 CNY (7.40 USD) and 73.81 CNY (11.29 USD), respectively. We estimated the annual benefits of the park's sports services as 108,504,761.6 CNY (16.6 million USD), indicating the value of the park's sports services to be about 7.23 billion CNY (1.1 billion USD). These results demonstrated that our proposed use of data from fitness-oriented mobile applications can provide a new approach to the appraisal of sports services within cultural ecosystem services. The changes of urban surface landscape will lead to damage, fragmentation, and losses of biodiversity, resulting in urban biodiversity decline. In order to explore the responses of urban plant diversity to the changes of landscape pattern, we chose the urban area surrounded by round-city highway as research object, set 36 plots in different directions with the Gupeng Square as the center, investigated the plant group in each of the plots through coverage rank method of Braun-Blanquet, and examined the features of plant species diversity in Xuzhou's greenlands. Meanwhile, we divided the landscape of the research area into seven categories: buildings, grasslands, forest lands, waste lands, water areas, roads and farmlands with the help of Erdas, GIS software and Landsat TM remote sensing images from 2005 to 2015 as basic data source. The features of landscape pattern in the research area were analyzed by Fragstats software. We set nine different buffer districts within each of the sample plot by applying the space analyzing function of GIS, calculated 39 landscape pattern metrics using Fragstats, and explored the features of how plant diversity responsed to landscape pattern. After that, the landscape pattern metrics with significant influence on the plant diversity of urban greenlands under different extents were selected by redundant analysis (RDA). The results showed that the plant diversity had obvious temporal and spatial scale effects in responses to landscape pattern and landscape elements. In 2005, the patch area and shape metrics of unused land and farmland could better explain plant diversity in 800 m buffer zone. The patch fragmentation and connectivity metrics of construction land had significant impacts on plant diversity within the extent of 800-2000 m. In 2015, grassland and forest landscapes better explained plant diversity in the 800 m buffer zone while construction sites and unused land had a remarkable impact on plant diversity in the extent of 1000-2000 m. The current plant diversity was more strongly influenced by the 2005 landscape type metrics, indicating that the plant diversity lagged in its response to the changes of landscape pattern. The pattern metrics of landscape level were more consistent with the landscape-class level metrics, indicating that the interaction between species and spatial scale was more dependent on the landscape type. This study would provide effective decision-making information for Xuzhou City planning and construction as well as effective protection of urban green space biodiversity.

Objective: To investigate the status of knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) of foodborne parasitic diseases among middle school students in Xuzhou City, so as to provide a reference to the health education., Methods: A total of four middle schools were selected and their students were investigated with the basic information questionnaire and questions of foodborne parasitic diseases., Results: The awareness rates of parasitic diseases, hazards and transmission were 56.50%, 66.33% and 70.50% respectively. The awareness rates of transmission of the diseases in the senior high school students and urban students were higher than those in the junior middle school students and rural students ( χ 2 = 8.684, 8.470, both P < 0.05). The formation rates of not drinking raw water and not eating raw food were higher among the female students than those among the male students ( χ 2 = 7.675, 15.230, both P < 0.05). The formation rate of not eating raw food was higher among the senior high school students than that among the junior middle school students ( χ 2 = 49.276, P < 0.001), and the formation rates of washing hands before meals and not keeping pets were higher among the urban students than those among the rural students ( χ 2 = 5.833, 13.443, both P < 0.05). Totally 64.83% of the students would not eat food that might be infected with foodborne parasites, and the proportion of girls was higher than that of the boys ( χ 2 = 11.690, P < 0.05), and 20.5% of the students would suggest others not eating food that might be infected with foodborne parasites, and 81% of the students would plan to get rid of bad habits., Conclusions: The cognition of foodborne parasitic diseases is poor among the middle school students in Xuzhou City. The health education work on foodborne parasitic diseases should be strengthened.
