Abstract

Background: Calyxes of Hibiscus sabdariffa (Hs) contain anthocyanins, that normalize blood glucose levels (BGL) in diabetic patients. Diabetes also causes memory alterations, which could hypothetically decrease with the consumption of Hs. Objectives: To investigate the effect of dietary supplementation with a Hs extract on working memory and BGL in rats. Methods: Diabetic hyperglycemia (DHG) was induced with streptozotocin (STZ, 55 mg/kg i.p.) in Wistar rats. After 72 h DHG was confirmed, and the consumption of Hs extract began (50 mg/Kg/day). BGL and body weight (BW) were measured at 10, 20 and 30 days after DHG induction in controls and treated animals. Learning and short-term memory were evaluated after 30 days with Novel Object Recognition Test (NOR) and Barnes Maze (BM). The gross hippocampal structure was histologically analyzed. Results: STZ-treated animals presented low BW and persistent DHG (BGL <300 mg/dL). Diabetic animals consuming the Hs extract had a dual response: some showed BGL comparable to controls, while others had levels comparable to diabetic animals not consuming extract. Diabetic animals that consumed the Hs extract had a better performance in NOR and BM than the diabetic animals not consuming the extract. At the histological level, hippocampal morphological differences were observed between diabetic animals that consumed the extract and those that did not. Discussion: The Hs extract used here could be a good co-adjuvant in the treatment of DHG, aimed at mitigating memory deficits and high BGL. Abstract

Objective　To explore the effectiveness of mindfulness yoga training on sleep quality in college students， so as to provide references for the intervention of sleep problems in college students. Methods　From March 28， 2021 to April 20， 2021， A sample of 45 college students with Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index （PSQI） score ≥8 was recruited. After intervention， the PSQI total score of the study group was lower than that before intervention （F=69. 898， P<0. 01）， and the response time of N-back training task was shorter than that before intervention （F=27. 939， P<0. 01）， the differences were statistically significant. Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of a selected balance training program under dual and single-task conditions on working memory of children with developmental coordination disorder. The research method was semi-experimental and a pre-test-post-test- follow-up design with a control group. In this study, 39 boys with DCD were selected by the available sampling method and randomly assigned to three groups: Dual-task training (n=13), single-task training (n=13), and control (n=13). The two experimental groups performed a selected training program with two different conditions for 8 weeks. All subjects were evaluated in three stages of pre-test, post-test and follow-up test (two months after post-test) by the Corsi block-tapping test (working memory test). Abstract

Introdução: É hoje sabido que a promoção do adequado desenvolvimento da memória de trabalho (MT) deve ocorrer precocemente, iniciando-se no pré-escolar, de forma a impulsionar esta capacidade ainda antes de a criança ingressar na escolaridade formal. Objetivo: Com esse propósito foi desenvolvido de raiz um programa com foco na promoção da MT no pré-escolar, designado “Brincar e Pensar para Aprender a Memorizar”, para ser implementado em pequeno grupo e em contexto de sala de aula. Materiais e Métodos: Para o processo de validação por especialistas utilizou-se um guião de apreciação do programa, com vários parâmetros que incluíram, por exemplo, a reflexão sobre a sua pertinência, a sua exequibilidade, interesse e pontos a melhorar. Relativamente à avaliação sobre a implementação fez-se recurso a uma grelha de registo, preenchida no final de cada sessão, na qual as aplicadoras assinalaram o interesse e participação do grupo, as principais dificuldades sentidas e colocaram sugestões ou pontos a melhorar. Foram envolvidos quatro especialistas das áreas da neuropsicologia e da educação no processo de validação e oito profissionais de educação na implementação do programa em duas escolas, uma pública e outra privada. Resultados: O presente artigo apresenta sumariamente o desenvolvimento da construção deste programa e as fases do seu processo de validação, até à fase de teste de implementação do mesmo e respetiva apreciação pelos educadores, elencando os pontos fortes e dificuldades encontradas. Conclusão: Tanto o painel de especialistas como a avaliação feita pelos profissionais de educação encontraram interesse no programa e exequibilidade na sua aplicação., Introduction: It is now well known that the promotion of the adequate working memory (WM), must occur early, starting in the preschool, in order to boost this ability even before the child enters formal schooling. Aim: With this purpose, a program for the stimulation of WM in preschool (“Brincar e Pensar para Aprender a Memorizar”) was developed from scratch, specifically designed to be implemented in small groups, in the context of the classroom. The present article summarizes the development of the program and the phases of its validation process, until the test phase with the appreciation by the educators involved. Materials and Methods: For the process of validation by experts, a guide was used to assess the program with various parameters, including, for example, reflection on its relevance, feasibility, interest and points for improvement. For the evaluation on the implementation of the program a registration grid was used, filled in at the end of each session, in which the applicators pointed out the interest and participation of the group, the main difficulties felt and registered suggestions or points for improvement. Four experts from the fields of neuropsychology and education were involved in the validation process and eight professionals in the implementation of the program in two schools, one public and one private. Results: This article summarises the development of the construction of this programme, and the phases of its validation process, up to the test phase of its implementation and its appreciation by educators, listing the strengths and difficulties encountered. Conclusion: Both the panel of experts and the evaluation made by education professionals found interest in the program and feasibility in its implementation.

Abstract

Mounted police units around the world have entered social media, with the aim of bringing the police closer to the public. In this paper, I analyze the Facebook page of the mounted police in the city of Helsinki, the capital of Finland. I ask how equine agency, animal work, interspecies care, and the relational networks of memory are interpreted, communicated, and performed on social media, contributing to the co-production of urban imaginaries. I approach the material as performances of animality and human–animal relations, concentrating on shared interpretations and representations of the horses and their agency. To be able to analyze human–animal encounters and interaction in urban space as they are experienced, imagined, remembered, and collectively shared, I suggest a novel concept of multispecies urban imaginary. Developing the concept widens the focus of understanding the multispecies nature of urban environments and includes animals in the experiences and perceptions of city space – where they belong.
