Background: Vibration platforms have demonstrated systemic effects generated by the use of mechanical vibrations, which are similar to those of any physical activity. The effect that whole body vibration (WBV) generates on the organism could be recommended in Diabetes Mellitus 2 (DM 2) patients. Objective: To systematically review and meta-analyze the available evidence on the effects of WBV on glycemic control in patients with DM 2 Material and methods: Exhaustive bibliographic searches were carried out until October 2023 in different biomedical portals and databases: Public Medline (PubMed), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), VHL Regional Portal, Cochrane Central and Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS). Randomized clinical trials based on the effects of Whole Body Vibration on glycosylated hemoglobin levels, with control group and participants were non-insulin dependent were the inclusion criteria. Two reviewers extracted data independently. A third reviewer was available for discrepancies. Results: Six articles with 223 participants met the criteria and were included in the systematic review; only four of them met the criteria to be part of the metaanalysis. This meta-analysis reveals a positive and significant effect size (m ê =0.5731), indicating a substantial difference between the groups studied. Although there is some variability between studies (heterogeneity of 30.05%), the overall direction of the effects is consistent. These findings conclusively suggest the presence of a significant influence of the variable evaluated, underscoring the robustness and consistency of the relationship observed in the literature reviewed. Conclusion: There are no conclusive results due to the lack of data for some variables, which prevents comparison; but WBV may be an effective therapy to improve glycemic control in DM 2 patients. Minimising opposing forces is a matter of interest to most cyclists. These forces arise from passage through air ('drag') and interaction with the road surface ('resistance'). Recent work recognises that resistance forces arise not only from the deformation of the tyre ('rolling resistance') but also from irregularities in the road surface ('roughness resistance'), which lead to power dissipation in the body of the rider through vibration. The latter effect may also have an adverse impact on human health. In this work we offer a quantitative theory of roughness resistance and vibration that links these effects to a surface characterisation in terms of the International Roughness Index (IRI). We show that the roughness resistance and the Vibration Dose Value (or VDV, the usual vibration dosage metric) can be expressed in terms of elementary formulae. The roughness resistance depends only on the vertical stiffness of the bicycle and the roughness index. Surprisingly, other apparently relevant parameters, such as physiological characteristics of the bicycle rider and other features of the bicycle, do not enter. For roads of moderate roughness, roughness resistance is larger than rolling resistance. For very rough roads, roughness resistance is larger than aerodynamic drag. So only on roads of high quality (in most jurisdictions, accounting for less than 10% of the total) can roughness resistance be ignored. Roughness resistance can be mitigated by reducing the vertical stiffness of the bicycle. BACKGROUND: Professional driving requires long hours of work, uncomfortable seats, negotiating rough terrain and highways, and possibly minor repairs and other auxiliary transportation duties. Heavy vehicle drivers driving vehicles such as trucks, bulldozers, etc. due to such working structures are more prone to various musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and pain, which is of great concern. OBJECTIVES: In the present study, it is planned to investigate possible ergonomic risk factors such as age, weight, driving exposure, seat suspension systems, lifting heavy weights causing MSDs in drivers of various heavy vehicles. The results of the study are expected to help drivers reduce the risk of MSDs. METHODS: For the present study, the Nordic questionnaire on musculoskeletal disorders was modified and standardized and was administered to the 48 heavy vehicle drivers randomly selected to collect the data. RESULTS: The analysis divulged that over the past 12 months, lower back pain (LBP) emerged as the most dominant pain experienced by 56% of drivers, followed by knee pain (KP) (43%) and neck pain (NP) (39%) respectively. The prevalence of shoulder pain (SP) was observed to be much lower than in previous literature. The logistic regression model further revealed that increasing age, poor suspension system and poor body posture were significantly associated with lower back pain. Additionally, a poor suspension system and lifting heavy weights had significant effect on the drivers' knee pain. CONCLUSION: The results demonstrated the evident necessity for ergonomic consideration in vehicle designing and ergonomic training for heavy vehicle drivers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) often lead sedentary lives, contributing to cardiovascular disease and muscular atrophy, requiring innovative therapeutic exercise approaches. Whole-body vibration (WBV) exercise training offers a unique option for those with limited motor control. This six-week pilot study aimed to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of WBV training in individuals with ASD. Methods: Six participants (age: 22.17 ± 2.14 years) underwent twice-weekly WBV sessions (10–24 min, 5–25 Hz). Cardiovascular biomarkers, including body composition, leg strength, blood pressure, waist/hip ratio, and body mass index (BMI), were measured. Qualitative outcomes on exercise tolerance, protocol completion, and perceived exertion were collected at each session. Data analyses, including measures of central tendencies and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, evaluated the intervention's effectiveness. Results: WBV training was safe and well-tolerated in adults with ASD. Despite no statistically significant improvements in cardiovascular and muscular strength indices, participants showed good adherence and tolerance to the protocol. Conclusion: Although WBV training had no significant impact on measured outcomes, it emerged as a feasible and well-tolerated exercise for individuals with ASD. It shows promise for addressing cardiovascular risk factors and reducing sedentary behaviors, suggesting the need for longer interventions to fully uncover its therapeutic potential. Exposure to Whole Body Vibration can affect the individual's cognition, and different frequencies and magnitude of vibration cause different effects, which can have either an improvement or deteriorate the individual's cognitive abilities. The present work aims to correlate seat-to-hand vibration transmissibility with the cognitive performance, simulating the working condition of a bus fare collectors. For this purpose, tests with 20 volunteers on a vibrating platform with sinusoidal vibration applied in the vertical direction were performed. The vibration amplitudes of 0.2 and 0.7 m/s2, and frequencies of 5 and 30 Hz were used. A daily routine of a bus fare collectors was simulated, based on data from the public transport system in the Belo Horizonte city. Vibration signals were collected on the platform chair and on the volunteer's hands, and were post-processed. Cognitive performance was assessed using a Brain Training App, and three indicators were considered: score, accuracy and reaction time to respond. The results showed that the frequencies adopted were beneficial to the score and accuracy, with the frequency of 5 Hz having better results, and the reaction was negatively affected for both frequencies. The vibration transmissibility showed that both frequencies presented the characteristic of attenuation, that is, the vibration amplitudes decreases from the platform chair to the volunteer's hands. Furthermore, there was a correlation (direct or inverse correlation) between the transmissibility with the reaction, accuracy and score when exposed to whole body vibration, and the type of correlation varied for each frequency and amplitude tested. BACKGROUND: Vibration is one of the harmful factors for forklift drivers. The use of non- standard seats and not paying attention to how the seats are maintained can be affected by the amount of vibration transmitted to the person. OBJECTIVE: This study investigates the amount of vibration transmitted from the forklift and the effect of different types of polyurethane foam in reducing the vibration transmitted from the forklift seat. METHODS: This descriptive-analytical study was performed on 38 forklifts in 4 diesel models with the same weight class. The amount of vibration transmitted from forklift seats according to ISO2631 standard, taking into account the effect of various factors such as foam type (hot and cold), thickness (6–12 cm), load and year Function was measured. The amount of vibration caused by the forklift on the seat and under the seat was evaluated using ISO7096 standard. RESULTS: The average total vibration of the whole body in all foams in no-load mode is more than with load. The transmission vibration of cold polyurethane foam is less than that of hot polyurethane foam. With increasing thickness, the efficiency of cold polyurethane foam increases by 12 cm and in the loaded state 40.63% and in the unloaded state 49.58% in reducing the vibration transmitted to drivers. CONCLUSION: The results of this study show that cold foam has better effectiveness and efficiency than hot polyurethane foam. Background and Objectives: Compared to other subjects, obese people have inferior trunk muscle endurance and balance. A modern method of neuro-muscular training called whole body vibration (WBV) may improve trunk muscle endurance and balance. This study evaluates the impact of a 4-week WBV program on trunk endurance and balance in obese female students. Materials and Methods: Sixty participants from 18 to 25 years of age and with BMI values ≥ 30 were randomly distributed into two equal groups: Group A (WBV group), who received 4 min of WBV, and Group B (sham WBV group), who received WBV with a turn-off device. The training was conducted two days/week for six weeks. Trunk endurance was evaluated using the Sorensen Test (ST) and Trunk Flexor Endurance Test (TFET). The Single-Leg Test (SLT) was used to assess static balance, while the Biodex Stability System measured dynamic balance. Results: The current study demonstrated no significant differences (p > 0.05) in pre-treatment variables between Groups A and B. Post-treatment, Group A showed a significantly higher duration of the Sorensen test, TFET and SLS than Group B (p < 0.001). Moreover, Group A showed significantly lower dynamic balance (p < 0.001) than Group B. Conclusions: WBV has a short-term effect on trunk endurance and balance in obese female students. Objectives: We examined the effects of whole-body vibration (WBV) on bone properties in type 2 diabetes (T2DM) model rats. Methods: Twenty male Hos:ZFDM-Leprfa, fa/fa rats (divided into DM and WBV groups, N = 10 each) and 10 Hos:ZFDM-Leprfa, fa/+ rats (as the control (CON) group) were used. The WBV group underwent WBV at 45 Hz frequency, with 0.5 g acceleration (15 min/day, 5 days/week) for 8 weeks. Trabecular and cortical bone mass, trabecular bone microstructure (TBMS), and cortical bone geometry (CBG) were analyzed via micro-computed tomography. Bone mechanical strength (maximum load, break point, and stiffness) was also measured. Additionally, bone metabolic and DM-related markers were determined. Results: The bone mechanical strength of the femur improved in the WBV group, although muscle atrophy and bone deterioration were observed in the DM and WBV groups. The serum levels of bone-specific alkaline phosphatase and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase-5b were significantly higher in the DM and WBV groups than in the CON group. Serum glucose and blood urea nitrogen levels were significantly lower in the WBV group than in the DM group. Conclusions: This study suggests that WBV potentially improves the decrease in the bone mechanical strength of the femur, although it does not prevent the deterioration of bone mineral content, TBMS, and CBG parameters. Further studies are needed to investigate the effective timing and duration of WBV and the conditions that prevent T2DM and deterioration of bone properties and clarify the mechanism underlying WBV effects on bone properties in DM animals.

This cross-sectional study was done aiming at determining the exposure of taxi drivers to vibration on 35 safe taxis (19 cars with engine volume of 1.325 L, 9 cars with engine volume of 1.645 L, and 7 cars with engine volume of 1.761 L). Measurements were based on 'ISO 2631-1' on seats' pans, by Castel GA2005 vibrometer. The results through two different evaluative methods indicated moderate exposure levels, corresponding to suggestive Health Guidance Caution Zone (HGCZ) in 'ISO 2631-1'. Evaluation of exposure to the WBV among taxi drivers, in the taxis with low and high mean acceleration values, using the VDV method is preferred over the R.M.S method. In lower accelerations, in all conditions, the mean of the reckoned values in the VDV method was less than the R.M.S method, and in higher accelerations, where there are more differences, and the CF values were higher (PAIK 1761 cars), again the assessed mean duration in the VDV method is less than R.M.S method. In the mining industry, dumper operators are exposed to combined noise and vibration, leading to discomfort. Dumpers are heavy earth-moving machines that are used for carrying bulky material in mining industries. Dumper operators are exposed to physical hazards such as vibration, noise, heat, and humidity, throughout their lifetime of work. Fifty-four dumper operators working in mines were selected for this study. Noise was measured as per the guidelines of the Directorate General Mining Safety, India, and whole-body vibration was measured as per the guidelines of ISO 2631-1::1997. Noise Pro DLX, Type 2 noise dosimeters were used for the measurement of personal noise exposure while SV-106 six channels vibration meters were used for whole body vibration (WBV) exposure measurement. Discomfort was calculated using the regression equation developed by Huang and Griffin (2014). The total discomfort level of mine operators was about 192. A predictive equation was derived by using a regression model to determine the contribution of individual variables causing discomfort. It was observed that for every unit increase in noise (LAeq), discomfort increased by 10.20 units, a one-unit increase in vibration (A (8)) led to a 51.7-unit increase in discomfort, while an increase of one unit of exposure time increased the discomfort level by 5.24 units. Background: Current research has demonstrated that Simvastatin (SIM) and Whole Body Vibration (WBV) actively contributes to the repair of osteoporotic bones. However, there is still limited knowledge regarding the impact of this combined therapy on osseointegration in elderly individuals. Objective: The objective of this study was to verify the influence of WBV and SIM combination treatment on Titanium implants' fixation strength in aged rats. Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley rats at 24 months old were utilized for this investigation. Titanium rods were surgically inserted into the distal femoral canal on their left side. Subsequently, all animals were randomly assigned to one of four groups: Control group; WBV group; SIM group; and WBV + SIM group. Each group received Saline, Whole Body Vibration, Simvastatin, or a combination of Whole Body Vibration plus Simvastatin treatment until they reached their natural death after 12 weeks. Objective To provide reference for the subsequent clinical application of WBV, based on the impacts of whole body vibration (WBV) with different frequencies on gross motor function and walking function in children with dyskinetic cerebral palsy. Methods 60 children aged 6 - 12 with dyskinetic cerebral palsy, who had been treated at the department of rehabilitation medicine in the Affiliated Southwest Medical University from October 2021 to November 2022, were selected. They were randomly divided into a control group (n = 20), (25 ± 5) Hz group (n = 20), and (35 ± 5) Hz group (n = 20). All the three groups received conventional rehabilitation, while the (25 ± 5) Hz group received additional WBV with (25 ± 5) Hz and the (35 ± 5) Hz group received WBV with (35 ± 5 ) Hz. They were treated for eight weeks. The scores on D and E domains of GMFM-88, TUGT, the score on Berg Balance Scale, and footprint analysis were used for assessment of the efficacy after treatment. Results As compared with the baselines, the scores were improved in the three groups after treatment (P < 0.001). BBS (F = 12.502), TUGT (F = 8.211), scores on D and E domains of GMFM-88 (F = 12.802 and 8.505), stride length (F = 12.279), 1MWT distance (F = 12.619), and step width (F = 13.582) were better in the (35 ± 5) Hz group than in the (25 ± 5) Hz group and the control group (P < 0.05 and P < 0.01) ; and the efficacy was better in the (25 ± 5) Hz group than in the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05 and P < 0.01). Conclusion WBV can improve trunk control, lower limb gross motor function, and walking function in children with involuntary motor type cerebral palsy. Objective：To explore the synchronization effect of whole-body vibration therapy combined with squat-up training on ambulation of patients with stroke. Method：40 stroke survivors who could walk independently with supervision or assistive devices, were recruited from the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Huashan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University (Pudong Campus) and were randomly divided into the WBVT group and the control group. Both groups received conventional rehabilitation treatment for 40 minutes per day. The WBVT group was given additional whole-body vibration therapy while squat-up training for another 20 minutes a day. The control group added sham stimulation of standing on the vibration platform with no vibration for the same amount of time per day. At the beginning of enrollment and after 4 weeks intervention, participants received two times evaluation by the wearable three-dimensional gait assessment instrument for the function of walking, and the electromyographic signals of the rectus femoris and long head of the biceps femoris were collected by surface electromyography instrument and statistical analysis on the data before and after the intervention. Result：After 4 weeks intervention, the stride speed and stride length of both groups improved siginificanlty (P<0.05), while the WBVT group was better than the control group (P<0.05). The swing angle of knee (flexion or extention)in the WBVT group improved significantly after intervention compared with the control group. At the single leg support phase (SS) of affected side, the differences were found in the synergistic contraction rate of the rectus femoris and biceps femoris in the bilateral lower extremity of the WBVT group after the intervention (P<0.05). At the swing phase (SW) of affected side, the differences were found in the synergistic contraction rate of the rectus femoris and biceps femoris in the bilateral lower extremity between the two groups before and after the intervention (P<0.05), but the affected side of the WBVT group was better than that the control group after intervention (P<0.05). Conclusion：Whole-body vibration therapy combined with rhythmic squat-up synchronous training can improve the stride speed, stride length and synergistic contraction rate of lower limb muscles for better ambulation of patients with stroke. The aims of this study were to determine the feasibility of the injury prevention program (IPP), to examine the reliability of perceptual response to an IPP and to analyze the acute effects of both external and internal demands of in-court training sessions in the IPP. Twelve young basketball players participated in a national team (NT) training camp (120 total individual samples). While players only completed five exclusive in-court training sessions, the IPP was always performed before such in-court practices in the rest of the sessions. The rating of perceived exertion (RPE) was determined at the completion of each IPP. Training load (TL) measures during in-court practices were collected using indoor tracking system, and individual heart rate monitors. Independent t -tests and analysis of variance were used to compare between-sessions TL measures and to test the main effect of RPE in TL. The mean RPE of all IPP sessions was 14.7 ± 0.86. Moreover, there was moderate reliability (ICC = 0.69) between IPP sessions for the RPE and an acceptable coefficient of variation (CV = 4.45%). Furthermore, after IPP, subjects significantly covered more distance per minute (total, ≤ 6 km/h and 6.1–12 km/h) and performed a higher number of body impacts per minute (total, very light and moderate do heavy). Also, the main effect of RPE during IPP sessions was significantly observed in distance covered per minute (total and 12.1–18 km/h) during in-court training sessions. Limited research exists regarding the effects of resistance exercise (RE) combined with whole body vibration (WBV), blood flow restriction (BFR), or both on the neuropsychological performance of working memory (WM) in late-middle-aged and older adults and regarding the physiological mechanisms underlying this effect. This study thus explored the acute molecular and neurophysiological mechanisms underlying WM performance following RE combined with WBV, BFR, or both. Sixty-six participants were randomly assigned into a WBV, BFR, or WBV + BFR group. Before and after the participants engaged in a single bout of isometric RE combined with WBV, BFR, or both, this study gathered data on several neurocognitive measures of WM performance, namely, accuracy rate (AR), reaction time (RT), and brain event-related potential (specifically P3 latency and amplitude), and data on biochemical indices, such as the levels of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), norepinephrine (NE), and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). Although none of the RE modalities significantly affected RTs and P3 latencies, ARs and P3 amplitudes significantly improved in the WBV and WBV + BFR groups. The WBV + BFR group exhibited greater improvements than the WBV group did. Following acute RE combined with WBV, BFR, or both, IGF-1 and NE levels significantly increased in all groups, whereas BDNF levels did not change. Crucially, only the changes in NE levels were significantly correlated with improvements in ARs in the WBV + BFR and WBV groups. The findings suggest that combining acute RE with WBV, BFR, or both could distinctively mitigate neurocognitive decline in late-middle-aged and older adults.

PURPOSE This study aimed to observe whether applying jogging, WBV, and PWU as warm-up exercises positively affected the neuro-physiological responses and physical fitness measurements in elite indoor and winter sports athletes. METHODS Elite bobsleigh (n=4, height; 180.2±2.93, weight; 93.5±2.41) and squash (n=5, height; 177.8±2.86, weight; 77.8±4.21) athletes were recruited. To verify the effect of the treatment, the whole body vibration (WBV), plyometric (PWU), and jogging treatment were performed for 10 minutes each week. Lactic acid, nerve conduction velocity (pre, post, 3 minutes, 5 minutes), and isokinetic test of three velocity (60, 180, 240°/sec) were measured. RESULTS There were significant differences between control, WBV, and PWU in lactic acid after the 3 min test (χ2 =9.036, p=.021), and WBV and PWU showed higher lactic acid than control. Nerve conduction velocity was different between control and PWU after the 3 min test (χ2 =8.242, p=.041), and PWU showed faster conduction velocity than control. Isokinetic strength was found to be different between control and PWU (χ2 =8.799, p=.032), and PWU showed higher average power than control. CONCLUSIONS It is considered that plyometric is a suitable warm-up exercise that can be easily applied according to harsh space and weather changes. Additionally, the test should be conducted in more sports.

The training was conducted two days/week for six weeks. Trunk endurance was evaluated using the Sorensen Test (ST) and Trunk Flexor Endurance Test (TFET). The Single-Leg Test (SLT) was used to assess static balance, while the Biodex Stability System measured dynamic balance. Results: The current study demonstrated no significant differences (p > 0.05) in pre-treatment variables between Groups A and B. Post-treatment, Group A showed a significantly higher duration of the Sorensen test, TFET and SLS than Group B (p < 0.001). Moreover, Group A showed significantly lower dynamic balance (p < 0.001) than Group B. Conclusions: WBV has a short-term effect on trunk endurance and balance in obese female students. WBV can be added to the rehabilitation program for obese subjects with deficits in trunk endurance and balance.

An uncertain mathematical model is developed to reproduce the human-body responses to a simulated flight-induced vibration. The objective is to create a predictive model based on the anthropometric characteristics of a seated human body that can turn useful for human-centered design considerations and for the integration of liveware into digital twin models. To this end, the human body is seen as an advanced vibrating structure represented as a dynamic stochastic 4DOF model with random anthropometric values. Parkinson’s disease is an incurable neurological disease. Only the symptoms can be treated with medication or exercise therapy. The present analysis is intended to show how whole-body vibration training affects the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, distinguishing between acute and long-term effects. Methods: online databases (EMBASE, PubMed, PEDro) were searched for reviews, meta-analyses and new studies since the previous most recent review/meta-analysis. Studies with at least a medium methodological quality (PEDro score at least 5 points) were selected. Results were presented as forest plots that indicated standardized mean differences with 95% confidence interval. Results: Sixteen studies were found with a PEDro-score of at least 5 points. Of these, three studies were excluded from the qualitative analysis because the necessary data, such as standard deviation or control group results, were missing. The effect sizes are very mixed. In some parameters there is no effect, in others a very strong effect. The effects in the comparison between single and multiple treatments are similar. Discussion: The different effects may be partly due to the different vibration frequencies or sentence durations, as well as to different valid test procedures. Conclusions: Since the study situation still does not show clear results, further studies must follow that compare different frequencies, sentence durations and vibration types with each other, so that training recommendations can be given on this basis.

Results: SWS of the MG at rest was enhanced in response to 5 min of 24 Hz WBV (p = 0.025), while a small reduction in SOL SWS was found during contraction (p = 0.005) in the longitudinal view. Subjective stiffness rating was increased following 12 Hz intervention. After 24 Hz WBV, pennation angle for MG was decreased (p = 0.011) during contraction. As a secondary finding, plantar flexor strength was significantly increased with each visit, which, however, did not affect the study's main outcome because of balanced sequence allocation. Conclusion: SWS effects were solely limited to 24 Hz mechanical vibration and in the longitudinal projection. The observed effects are compatible with an interpretation by post-activation potentiation, warm-up, and force-distribution within the triceps surae muscles following 5 min WBV. The paper also presents technical solutions in the form of numerous devices enabling human functioning in microgravity conditions, without significant decrease in physical capacity, as well as muscle and bone atrophy. The chief purpose of this paper is to propose an innovative piece of equipment that applies two pneumatic actuators for training of lower bodily parts of astronauts in a space station. The equipment recommended in the article is of the authors’ own patent. Additionally, the authors put forward a proposition of how to control the patented device in a novel way.

Whole Body Vibration has been found to induce physiological changes in human subjects, improving their neuromuscular, respiratory and cardiovascular functions. Evidence from animal research prove that whole-body vibration appears to induce changes in molecular and cellular levels to alter cognitive functions in mice. There is evolving evidence for a potential value of whole body vibration in improving cognition and preventing the development of age-related cognitive disorders in humans. However, literature on the biological consequences of whole-body vibration on the human brain is scanty. If so, gathering the available evidences would help decide the possibility of designing appropriate whole-body vibration protocols to extend its application to induce neurocognitive enhancement and optimize its effects. Therefore, a systematic review of the literature was performed, consulting the ProQuest, MEDLINE and Scopus bibliographic databases, to summarize the available scientific evidence on the effects of whole-body vibration on cognitive functions in adults. Results of the review suggest that whole-body vibration therapy enhances a wide spectrum of cognitive functions in adults although there isn't enough evidence available yet to be able to design a standardized protocol to achieve optimum cognitive enhancement.

The purpose of this report is to remind providers of the potential risks of Whole Body Vibration Therapy (WBVT) for children with disabilities. We reviewed the current state of knowledge and learned that WBVT may have potential risk of injury for some children. To the best of our knowledge this review is the first to clarify WBVT risks. We believe WBVT may have therapeutic value but we recommend caution and offer suggestions for future research.

The most important clinical problem in myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) is trigger points (TrPs). The aim of the present study was to investigate the comparison of immediate effect of deep transverse friction massage (DTFM), high-power pain threshold ultrasound (HPPTUS), and whole body vibration (WBV) on treatment of active myofascial trigger points (MTrPs). Materials and Methods: sixty six men with active TrPs of upper trapezius muscle were randomly divided into three equal groups: DTFM, HPPT US, and WBV. Pain intensity based on the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), pressure pain threshold (PPT) and active contralateral lateral flexion range of motion (CLF ROM) of the neck were evaluated before and immediately after the interventions. The VAS, PPT and the active CLF ROM were substantially improved after intervention in all groups (P < 0.01). When the three groups were compared regarding VAS, participants in the WBV group reported significantly more reduction in pain (P < 0.01). On comparing the interventions, there were no significant differences in PPT values (P > 0.05). The CLF ROM value in HPPTUS and WBV groups have significant increase in comparison to the DTFM group. All three interventions can improve neck pain, PPT and ROM in participants with active TrPs in upper trapezius muscle, but due to the fact that the DTFM has more pressure on therapist fingers, and the HPPTUS technique requires proper interaction with the participants, WBV can be used as one of the effective intervention on active MTrPs of upper trapezius. Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are an important public health problem, representing about 45% of deaths in the world. Its management is linked to medications, changes in lifestyle, and physical exercise, with the whole-body vibration exercises (WBV) being a promising therapeutic resource. This study aims to investigate the effects of WBV in isolation or associated with other types of exercises in the management of CVDs. A systematic review following the PRISMA guidelines and registered on the PROSPERO platform was carried out. The search took place in the databases PubMed, Cochrane, PEDro, Lilacs, and Science Direct, from the beginning of the databases until January 2021. Descriptors related to WBV and CVD were used. The selected studies were assessed for quality, risk of bias, and level of evidence. In all, 84 studies were identified, and of these, three were included. The intervention protocols used were analyzed, in addition to the effects of WBV on hemodynamic, cardiovascular, vascular/arterial, and muscle parameters. Whole body vibration is one of the main causes of musculoskeletal disorders of drivers. The purpose of this study was to investigate the allowable exposer time, care limit, and driver response to the vibrations of the seat of tractor. A three-way accelerometer was used to measure the vibration of the seat of a four-wheel drive ITM 475 Tractor based on the ISO 2631-1 international vibration standard. The studied factors were evaluated engine rotational speed, gear ratio, and road. The obtained data were analyzed through a factorial experiment based on completely randomized design. The results showed that effects of the main factors and those of their interactions on the total vibration emitted from the tractor seat were significant at 1% probability level. The minimum allowable exposure time and care limit were 1.16 and 0.14 h, respectively, that was in very uncomfortable range. The effect of engine rotational speed on the driver allowable exposure time to vibration is more than that of shifting gear. The present study contains an experimental analysis of the vibratory response in a low-cylinder engine motorcycle at varying suspension preloads. Three different speed bumps of varying heights were used to subject the motorcycle to different vibrations. The analysis was carried out in three domains: time, frequency, and time-frequency. A triaxial accelerometer was used to measure the vibrations at the seat of the vehicle. The results indicated that the suspension system became more differentiated as the height of the bumps increased. However, for lower bumps, the action of the three spring preloads studied was quite similar. Quantitatively, only the higher bump showed a significant difference between the set preloads. The spectral distribution revealed that the frequency of interest was below 20 Hz for all the studied cases, which is in the same range of human body natural frequencies. The findings of this research can be utilized to enhance the design of low-cost motorcycles, thereby improving the safety and comfort of their drivers and passengers. This study constitutes a significant step towards developing an affordable system capable of gathering sufficient data to support the creation of evidence-based public health policies and propose new transport industry standards based on field measurements. Osteoporosis is the most common metabolic bone disease, and various factors such as low body mass index and lack of physical activity are involved in the occurrence of this disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of circular resistance exercises, whole body vibration and their combination on 25-hydroxyvitamin D, bone mineral density and functional factors in elderly people with osteoporosis. In a randomized controlled experiment with a pre-test-post-test design, 60 elderly men with osteoporosis with an age range of 65-78 years were randomly divided into four exercise groups: Circular resistance training (CRT, n=15), whole body vibration training (WBVT, n=15), combined (CRT + WBVT, n=15), and control (n=15). CRT with an intensity of 30 to 60% of the maximum repetition strength (1RM) was performed 3 times a week for 12 weeks. WBVT were performed in the form of 10 combined lower body and upper body movements with a frequency intensity between 25 to 45 Hz, an amplitude of 5 to 8 mm, and a time of each movement of 60 to 100 seconds, While the control group maintained their usual lifestyle. Body composition variables include; Fat-free weight (LBM), soft tissue weight (SLM) and skeletal muscle weight (SMM) using Body Composition Analyzer, bone density measurement using DEXA test and 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 before and after the last training sessions. Data analysis was done by using paired sample t-test and analyze of covariance (ANCOVA) at a level less than 0.05. After 12 weeks of intervention, a significant improvement in BMD, balance, coordination, muscle strength, lean weight and skeletal muscle weight was observed after CRT and CRT + WBVT exercises in comparison with the control group. However, no significant differences were observed between the groups in the variables of weight, body mass index, lean weight, soft tissue weight, skeletal muscle weight (SMM), BMD, balance, hydroxyvitamin D3 (p> 0.05). The findings of the current research show that performing CRT, WBVT and CRT + WBV exercises as a non-pharmacological treatment method can cause a significant increase in bone density and functional indicators of elderly men and has no effect on the hormonal indicators of elderly men with osteoporosis. Purpose: To compare the effects of whole-body vibration training (WBVT) with different frequencies on the balance ability of older adults. Methods: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the WBVT interventions on balance ability in older adults were searched through PubMed, Web of Science, The Cochrane Library, ProQuest, Embase, Opengrey, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang, and China Science and Technology Journal Database (CSTJ) databases from the establishment of the database to August 2022, and all literature that met the PICOS (Participants, Intervention, Comparison, Outcomes, Study design) criteria were enrolled. Two reviewers screened and assessed the methodological quality of the included literature according to the physiotherapy evidence database (PEDro) scale criteria. Statistical analysis was performed using Stata 14.0 software after data extraction.Results: Twenty-five RCTs with a total of 1267 subjects were finally included. The results of the pairwise comparison of the Network Meta-analysis showed that the Timed Up and Go Test (TUGT) values of Low-frequency whole-body vibration training (LF-WBVT) was lower than the placebo and traditional rehabilitation groups, and the difference was statistically significant [WMD = −1.37, 95% CI (−2.53, −0.20)] [WMD = −1.84, 95% CI(-3.17,-0.51)]. The Five-repetition Sit-to-Stand Test (5STS) values of LF-WBVT, Medium-frequency whole-body vibration training (MF-WBVT), and High-frequency whole-body vibration training (HF-WBVT) were lower than the placebo and traditional rehabilitation groups, but none of them were statistically significant. In addition, the TUGT and 5STS values of HF-WBVT had a tendency to be lower than those of LF-WBVT and MF-WBVT, but neither of them was statistically different. The cumulative probability ranking results of both TUGT and 5STS showed that HF-WBVT was the best protocol.Conclusion: Current evidence shows that HF-WBVT may be the best protocol for improving balance in older adults. According to the WHO, overweight and obesity, defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation, are a major risk factor for many diseases. The bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) is a commonly used method of assessing body composition in clinical practice and medical research. When the BIA reveals abnormalities, the recommended therapeutic procedure is to modify the diet and implement physical activity. One method that can reinforce or support physical activity is whole-body vibration (WBV). Vibrating devices with stochastic resonance (SR) generate vibrations of variable amplitude and frequency. For people with unhealthy body composition who cannot undertake physical activity for various reasons, procedures with stochastic resonance seems to be a good solution. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of stochastic resonance whole-body vibration (SR-WBV) on the body composition of women. Measured BC parameters included fat mass (FM, kg), percent body fat (PBF, %), visceral fat area (VFA, cm2), soft lean mass (SLM, kg), fat-free mass (FFM, kg), skeletal muscle mass (SMM, kg), body cell mass (BCM, kg), protein (kg), minerals (kg), bone mineral contents (BMC, kg), intracellular water (IW, l), extracellular water (EW, l), total body water (TBW, l), extracellular water/total body water (EW/TBW). The study involved 240 healthy young women with normal body composition (BC) and low or moderate physical activity levels. Two groups were randomly formed from among all participants: the V group included 134 women participating in 12 SR-WBV procedure sessions over 6 weeks; the C group included 106 women not participating in SR-WBV procedure sessions over 6 weeks. The stochastic procedure consisted of 12 sessions over 6 weeks. One session lasted 15 min, consisting of nine active series of vibrations lasting 45 s each with 40 s breaks between series. The vibration frequency was 2–8 Hz and the amplitude ranged 0.5–3.5 mm. While observing the effect of SR-WBV vibrations on body composition in the group of women, no statistically significant changes were found. Hence, we conclude that the stochastic resonance vibration procedure cannot be recommended as a way to modify body composition in healthy young women characterized by normal body composition and low or moderate physical activity levels. A whole body vibration platform using vertical oscillation has been shown to be efficacious in reducing vocal fatigue in adults. This study aimed to investigate whether this platform-generated whole body vibration was unique in reducing vocal fatigue by comparing it with self-generated whole body vibration. Twenty-four female adults (mean age = 23.96 years) were randomly assigned to one of the following three groups: a machine-generated whole body vibration group (N = 8), a self-generated whole body vibration group (N = 8), and a placebo vocal resting group (N = 8). All participants performed a karaoke singing task for at least 95 minutes. Each participant received 10 minutes of platform-generated vibration, self-vibration, or sham localised vibration (placebo group with basically voice rest only), according to their group allocation. Vocal function ability, measured by the highest fundamental frequency produced, and a self-reported vocal fatigue score were evaluated at three time points: baseline (prefatigue), after the singing task (post-fatigue) and post-vibration. The study revealed that machine-generated whole body vibration was significantly better at improving vocal fatigue than self-generated whole body vibration or voice rest. The findings support previous research that machine-generated whole body vibration is effective in reducing vocal fatigue. The non-significant results of self-generated whole body vibration in terms of relieving vocal fatigue suggest that inadequate vibration frequency or amplitude together with leg muscle fatigue may have been the main factor of ineffectiveness. Objective To investigate the biomechanics of transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) with interspinous process device (IPD) or pedicle screw fixation under both static and vibration conditions by the finite element (FE) method. Method A validated FE model of the L1‐5 lumbar spine was used in this study. This FE model derived from computed tomography images of a healthy female adult volunteer of appropriate age. Then the model was modified to simulate L3‐4 TLIF. Four conditions were compared: (i) intact; (ii) TLIF combined with bilateral pedicle screw fixation (BPSF); (iii) TLIF combined with U‐shaped IPD Coflex‐F (CF); and (iv) TLIF combined with unilateral pedicle screw fixation (UPSF). The intact and surgical FE models were analyzed under static and vibration loading conditions respectively. For static loading conditions, four motion modes (flexion, extension, lateral bending, and axial rotation) were simulated. For vibration loading conditions, the dynamic responses of lumbar spine under sinusoidal vertical load were simulated. Result Under static loading conditions, compared with intact case, BPSF decreased range of motion (ROM) by 92%, 95%, 89% and 92% in flexion, extension, lateral bending and axial rotation, respectively. While CF decreased ROM by 87%, 90%, 69% and 80%, and UPSF decreased ROM by 84%, 89%, 66% and 82%, respectively. Compared with CF, UPSF increased the endplate stress by 5%–8% in flexion, 7%–10% in extension, 2%–4% in lateral bending, and decreased the endplate stress by 16%–19% in axial rotation. Compared with CF, UPSF increased the cage stress by 9% in flexion, 10% in extension, and decreased the cage stress by 3% in lateral bending, and 13% in axial rotation. BPSF decreased the stress responses of endplates and cage compared with CF and UPSF. Compared BPSF, CF decreased the facet joint force (FJF) by 6%–13%, and UPSF decreased the FJF by 4%–12%. During vibration loading conditions, compared with BPSF, CF reduced maximum values of the FJF by 16%–32%, and vibration amplitudes by 22%–35%, while UPSF reduced maximum values by 20%–40%, and vibration amplitudes by 31%–45%. Conclusion Compared with other surgical models, BPSF increased the stability of lumbar spine, and also showed advantages in cage stress and endplate stress. CF showed advantages in IDP and FJF especially during vertical vibration, which may lead to lower risk of adjacent segment degeneration. CF may be an effective alternative to pedicle screw fixation in TLIF procedures.

Abstract Whole body vibration (WBV) is a recognized occupational hazard for many workers such as drivers and operators of heavy and light machinery and exposure to it is accompanied by physical and mental repercussions. Only the limited studies have been done on the effects of vibration exposure on reproductive indices, however vibration exposure has been indicated as being a hazardous agents with the potential of being able to directly affect the reproductive system. Considering the importance of infertility, the present study was conducted with the aim of investigating semen quality among taxi drivers in Tehran and determine the effect of exposure to WBV on sperm parameters. The study population consisted of 70 taxi drivers and 70 office employee who attended infertility clinics for diagnostic purposes in the past year. The participants had to meet the entry criteria of the study while also being willing to recruit. Data was collected in the form of demographic questionnaires and general health questionnaires as well as sperm analysis conducted in an infertility clinic according to standard laboratory guidelines. The 8-hour time-weighted average (TWA) exposure to of WBV in automobile was measured as per ISO 2631-1. The TWA exposure to WBV among the taxi drivers and office employees were 0.697 ± 0.13 m/s2 and 0.068 ± 0.09 m/s2 respectively (P 0.05); moreover exposure to WBV resulted in the larger effect size (B) on sperm parameters than the demographic variables (P > 0.05). Being taxi drivers increase the chance of the decreased semen quality (P > 0.05). It is difficult to draw definitive conclusions regarding the effects of WBV while intervening factors exist, such as psychological stressors, quality of sleep, background issues as well as environmental factors such as chemical pollutants (heavy metals) or ergonomic factors (body posture and working while sitting down).

The Whole Body Vibration (WBV) levels, which are exposed at the Highway - Railroad Level Crossing (RLC) passes with a passenger car type vehicle and adversely affect human health, were investigated in the study. First of all, vibration measurements were made at different speeds on some road profiles with known geometries, and a dynamic model that could give the vehicle's responses in the digital environment was calibrated with the help of these data. Then, with the help of vibration data exposed in RLC transitions at Low (L), Medium (M) and High (H) severity levels at various ride speeds, the sections between and outside the rails are compared to the road profiles defined in the ISO 8608 standard. Using the vehicle dynamic model describing the WBV, vibration data that the human body is exposed to were produced in single-track and double-track RLC at L, M and H severity levels. In the simulation, the effects of the ride speed were also evaluated by changing the vehicle speeds in the range of 10 to 50 km/h by ten units. Vibration dose value (VDV), which is the vibration parameter defined in the ISO 2631 standard, the levels of general nuisance caused by vibration on human health, the equivalent static pressure stress (Se) parameter and the level of influence of the supporting skeleton system (lumbar spine) were investigated. The present research examines the impact of vibrations on seat-to-back transmissibility in tractor drivers. This study utilized a smart device for real-time data transmission to improve the experimentation by eliminating potential sources of error. Data was assessed using metrics such as weighted acceleration, daily exposure, power spectral density, and seat-to-back transmissibility. The seat pan and backrest were found to have high vibration levels on the vertical axis. Daily exposure response exceeded the exposure action limit of 0.5 m/s2, as specified in Directive 2002/44/EU. Power spectral densities at the seat pan and the backrest revealed dominant frequencies in the low-frequency range. Seat-to-back transmissibility demonstrated primary and secondary resonance within the 4.1-7.2 Hz and 8.2-11.8 Hz frequency ranges. Tractor manufacturers and designers could utilize the findings of this study to decrease the excessive vibration intensities and crucial resonating frequencies and thus enhance the operator's ride comfort. BACKGROUND: Reduced muscle strength is one symptom of Parkinson's disease (PD). Strength can be increased by strength training, which may cause exaggerated blood pressure (BP) rise. It is believed that exercises performed on vibrating platform can strengthen leg muscles without excessive BP increase. OBJECTIVE: To measure the pressor response to static exercises performed during whole body vibration in PD patients. METHODS: Twenty-four aged PD patients and twelve healthy young volunteers participated in the study. PD subjects performed six repetitions of deep-, semi-squat, and calves at vibration frequency of 30 Hz. Each 30 s exercise was followed by 30 s rest. The young volunteers performed two sessions of above-mentioned exercises with and without vibration. BP was measured continuously. RESULTS: In PD patients, the highest BP values were observed during deep squat; systolic blood pressure rose 10 mmHg in 'weak responders', and 50 mmHg in 'strong responders'. This difference correlated with the rise in pulse pressure suggesting indirectly the role of stoke volume in individual response. In healthy subjects pressor response was also individually differentiated and not influenced by vibration. CONCLUSION: Deep and semi squat can evoke a strong cardiovascular response in some PD and healthy subjects. Low-magnitude vibrations likely did not affect pressor response. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the mining industry, the dumper vehicle plays a vital role in material handling tasks. During the various operations, the dumper operators are subjected to whole-body vibrations (WBV) which also affects their physiological factors. The present study investigates the dumper operator discomfort during various dumper operations such as material-loading (ML), loaded-travel (LT), material-unloading (MU) and unloaded-travel (UT). As per ISO 2631:1 specified, limit during the ML and MU task, the measured crest factor value is greater than the recommended values. However, the measured aw(8) and VDV(8) magnitude are within the specified limit. In the LT, it is observed that the VDV is within the limit, although the measured value is 1.39 times greater than MU task. The maximum WBV is observed during the UT, and the measured value of VDV falls above the specified limit, and experience a greater amplification of source vibration at 1.6 Hz. Moreover, the demand for high number of operation cycle increases the risk of neck pain and back pain among the study population. Operator physiological stress under WBV exposure showed a significant increase in heart rate by 2.04 bpm. Whereas, no significant influence on the increase in blood pressure (SYS/DIA: 1.56/0.76 mmHg) and a decrease in oxygen saturation level (SpO2) by 1% was observed. Therefore, to optimize the performance of seat design under different operation cycle using computational learning technique support vector machine classifier with quadratic preset model provides a best accuracy of 98.5% over the other machine learning algorithm. The study reveals that the prolonged sitting and constant experience of WBV could increase the job work stress, the computational learning technique warranted to prevent the operator from high WBV exposures. Background: Whole body vibration (WBV) has been used to treat various musculoskeletal diseases in recent years. However, there is limited knowledge about its effects on the lumbar segments in upright posture mice. This study was performed to investigate the effects of axial Whole body vibration on the intervertebral disc (IVD) and facet joint (FJ) in a novel bipedal mouse model.Methods: Six-week-old male mice were divided into control, bipedal, and bipedal + vibration groups. Taking advantage of the hydrophobia of mice, mice in the bipedal and bipedal + vibration groups were placed in a limited water container and were thus built standing posture for a long time. The standing posture was conducted twice a day for a total of 6 hours per day, 7 days per week. Whole body vibration was conducted during the first stage of bipedal building for 30 min per day (45 Hz with peak acceleration at 0.3 g). The mice of the control group were placed in a water-free container. At the 10th-week after experimentation, intervertebral disc and facet joint were examined by micro-computed tomography (micro-CT), histologic staining, and immunohistochemistry (IHC), and gene expression was quantified using real-time polymerase chain reaction. Further, a finite element (FE) model was built based on the micro-CT, and dynamic Whole body vibration was loaded on the spine model at 10, 20, and 45 Hz.Results: Following 10 weeks of model building, intervertebral disc showed histological markers of degeneration, such as disorders of annulus fibrosus and increased cell death. Catabolism genes’ expression, such as Mmp13, and Adamts 4/5, were enhanced in the bipedal groups, and Whole body vibration promoted these catabolism genes’ expression. Examination of the facet joint after 10 weeks of bipedal with/without Whole body vibration loading revealed rough surface and hypertrophic changes at the facet joint cartilage resembling osteoarthritis. Moreover, immunohistochemistry results demonstrated that the protein level of hypertrophic markers (Mmp13 and Collagen X) were increased by long-durationstanding posture, and Whole body vibration also accelerated the degenerative changes of facet joint induced by bipedal postures. No changes in the anabolism of intervertebral disc and facet joint were observed in the present study. Furthermore, finite element analysis revealed that a larger frequency of Whole body vibration loading conditions induced higher Von Mises stresses on intervertebral disc, contact force, and displacement on facet joint.Conclusion: The present study revealed significant damage effects of Whole body vibration on intervertebral disc and facet joint in a bipedal mouse model. These findings suggested the need for further studies of the effects of Whole body vibration on lumbar segments of humans.

Stone pavements are the historical, architectural, and cultural heritage of lots of cities in Italy and the world. Road managers should be able to make decisions on the global conditions to define the most suitable strategies and maintenance interventions for every type of pavement. There are no standard monitoring methods or criteria for evaluating stone pavement performance. These pavements have more uneven surfaces than traditional pavements, but this characteristic could be accepted if type of vehicles and relative travel conditions are considered. Therefore, it is useful to define criteria for assessing roughness considering the comfort experienced by users in different vehicles. In this research, both traditional and innovative methodologies for assessing irregularities have been investigated using true stone surface profiles. In this regard, traditional performance indicators such as the International Roughness Index (IRI) defined by the ASTM E1926, the ISO 8608 classification, and the frequency-weighted vertical acceleration (awz) provided by ISO 2631-1 for comfort assessment have been considered. In the case of comfort assessment, three dynamic vehicle models (bike, automobile, and bus) have been adopted. Finally, this two-part paper also proposes an innovative straightedge analysis for stone pavements (SASP) to evaluate the effect on traffic of both pavement profile roughness and localized irregularities. Background/Aims: Whole body vibration could benefit functional mobility in people with Parkinson's disease. A preliminary study was undertaken to analyse the acute effect of whole body vibration on unobstructed walking and obstacle circumvention in people with Parkinson's disease. Methods: People with Parkinson's disease and typically healthy individuals as matched controls were divided into four groups with nine individuals in each: experimental or placebo for people with Parkinson's disease and experimental or placebo for the control group. The participants were evaluated in two different gait conditions: unobstructed walking and obstacle circumvention. Then the participants undertook a session of whole body vibration on a KIKOS P201 lateral vibratory platform in two positions: feet shoulder-width apart, and feet shoulder-width apart with slightly flexed knees. The participants were re-evaluated after this session. Results: After whole body vibration, those in the experimental Parkinson's disease group had a reduced co-contraction of the tibialis anterior and the gastrocnemius lateralis muscles during unobstructed walking, whereas the co-contraction of the tibialis anterior and the gastrocnemius lateralis muscles increased in the experimental control group. In addition, those in the experimental control group had reduced stride duration in unobstructed walking and in obstacle circumvention. After the placebo intervention, the co-contraction of the tibialis anterior and the gastrocnemius lateralis muscles increased in all conditions and stride duration was reduced in unobstructed walking. Conclusions: Although whole body vibration had no acute efficiency on gait (unobstructed walking and obstacle circumvention), it can improve other components, such as strength, which could be important for people with Parkinson's disease. Findings from epidemiological studies suggest that occupational exposure to whole-body vibration (WBV) may increase the risk of miscarriage and contribute to a reduction in fertility rates in both men and women. However, workers exposed to WBV may also be exposed to other risk factors that contribute to reproductive dysfunction. The goal of this experiment was to examine the effects of WBV on reproductive physiology in a rat model. Male and female rats were exposed to WBV at the resonant frequency of the torso (31.5 Hz, 0.3 g amplitude) for 4 hr/day for 10 days. WBV exposure resulted in a significant reduction in number of developing follicles, and decrease in circulating estradiol concentrations, ovarian luteinizing hormone receptor protein levels, and marked changes in transcript levels for several factors involved in follicular development, cell cycle, and steroidogenesis. In males, WBV resulted in a significant reduction in spermatids and circulating prolactin levels, elevation in number of males having higher circulating testosterone concentrations, and marked alterations in levels of transcripts associated with oxidative stress, inflammation, and factors involved in regulating the cell cycle. Based upon these findings data indicate that occupational exposure to WBV contributes to adverse alterations in reproductive physiology in both genders that may lead to reduction in fertility. This study aimed to examine the continuous effects of whole body vibration (WBV) on bone properties, in growing rats. Fifty 5-week-old male rats were divided into control and experimental groups. Each experimental group underwent WBV at 50 Hz (0.5 g, 15 min/day, 5 days/week) for 5 or 10 weeks. Bone size, muscle weight and bone mechanical strength of the right tibia were measured. Trabecular bone microstructure, cortical bone geometry and bone mass of the left tibia were analyzed by micro-CT. Serum levels of bone formation/resorption markers were also measured. In rats that underwent 5-week WBV, tibial cortical bone mineral content and cortical bone area significantly increased (p < 0.05), and tibial cortical bone volume, thickness, maximum load, break point and stiffness tended to be increased (p = 0.05–0.09), compared with control rats. In rats that underwent 10-week WBV, stiffness tended to be increased (p = 0.07), and the serum level of osteocalcin decreased, compared with control rats. These findings suggest that 5-week WBV had beneficial effects on bone properties, and that increased bone mineral content and cortical bone geometry may lead to higher bone mechanical strength.
