It is essential to maintain the aerodynamic performance of the air-conditioning system meanwhile reducing the noises (including aerodynamic, broadband, and discrete noises), determining the consumer's comfort level. In this work, depending on the coupling of the wavy leading-edge and the seagull airfoil, the aeroacoustics noise and aerodynamic performance of the impellers with the coupling bionic blade were investigated in detail. The results indicate the aerodynamic performance was improved by the coupling bionic optimization. Moreover, the total pressure efficiency (η) of the coupling bionic blade increases by 2.28% in comparison to the original blade. Furthermore, A smaller static differential pressure is observed between the suction and pressure sides, and vortices and backflows from the pressure side to the suction side are hampered, causing a reduction in turbulence noise. Additionally, the broadband noise of the coupling bionic blade decreases by 3.59 dB. Besides, the coupling bionic blade improves the directivity of the sound pressure level, especially in the middle-frequency and low-frequency region, resulting in a decrease of 7.9 dB for the aeroacoustics noise of the coupling bionic blade. What's more, the modal analysis demonstrates the security of the designed coupling bionic blade. In generally, this work provides some inspiration to design axial flow fans with excellent aerodynamic performance and low-noise characteristics.

This paper examines the effects on a Clark-y three-dimensional hydrofoil of wavy leading-edge protuberances in a quantitative and qualitative way. The simulation is accompanied by a hybrid RANS-LES model in conjunction with Zwart-Gerber–Belamri model. Detailed discussions of the stable no-cavitating, unsteady cavitating flow fields and the control mechanics are involved. The force characteristics, complicated flow behaviors, cavitation–streamwise vortex interactions, and the cavitating flow instability are all presented. The results demonstrate that protuberances acting as vortex generators produce a continuous influx of boundary-layer vorticity, significantly enhancing the momentum transfer of streamwise vortices and therefore improving the hydrodynamics of the hydrofoil. Significant interactions are described, including the encouragement impact of cavitation evolution on the fragmentation of streamwise vorticities as well as the compartmentation effect of streamwise vorticities binding the cavitation inception inside the troughs. The variations in cavitation pressure are mainly due to the acceleration in steam volume. In summary, it is vital for new hydrofoils or propeller designs to understand in depth the effects of leading-edge protuberances on flow control.

This paper provides a numerical investigation into the effect of the wavy leading edge on the flow structures and noise of a hydrofoil. NACA0012 hydrofoils with straight and wavy leading edges (denoted by SLE and WLE, respectively) are simulated. The simulations are performed using the large eddy simulation approach to obtain the near-field unsteady flow properties and the Ffowcs Williams–Hawkings equation to predict far-field noise. The numerical results at Reynolds number of 2. 5 × 10 5 show that the fluctuating amplitude of the lift and drag coefficient decreases after the wavy structure is applied to the leading edge, and the flow field around the hydrofoil is changed due to the streamwise vortices generated in each trough by the pressure gradient of the leading edge. In addition, the wavy leading edge can effectively reduce or even eliminate the tonal noise of the foil without significantly changing the noise directivity. Moreover, the effect of inlet velocities on noise reduction is studied with three different velocities(1, 2.5, and 4.8 m/s). It is found that at the higher velocity of the three, the WLE has a better inhibition effect on lift fluctuation and a better noise reduction effect. • Benefiting from the addition of wavy leading edge, the tonal noise of NACA0012 hydrofoil is effectively reduced or even eliminated. • The noise reduction mechanism of wavy leading edge is analyzed, and the noise reduction effect under different velocities is studied.
