This study explores co‐creative gift systems within digital platforms. We define co‐creative gift systems as systems where consumers actively engage in content creation and co‐creation, disseminating original artistic digital gifts (i.e., content such as novels, videos, music) on digital platforms and engaging in collaborative exchanges that shape the work in progress. Using a qualitative methodology, including netnography and guided introspections, we analyze 3 years of netnographic data on Wattpad, a platform for developing and publishing written fiction. Our findings reveal the building of varying relational ties within the gift system, from casual interactions to deep connections that foster communities of practice and fandoms, and fluid role transitions between givers and recipients. These interactions and transitions impact the development of the digital gift through editorial support, narrative co‐creation, and independent reviews. This study contributes to the literature on gift giving by emphasizing the role of co‐creative gift systems in enhancing digital community interactions and content co‐creation. Future research directions are suggested to further explore co‐creative gift systems across various digital platforms and their implications for consumer research and digital content production. The advancement of technology in the current world is leading to the changing of the learning process in the educational field. This study aimed to explore the use of Wattpad to enhance the writing skills of EFL learners following the integration of ICT for educational purposes based on the effect of the application and the student’s perceptions. The study used a mixed method to examine the data provided both numerical and non-numerical. The samples of this study were 80 participants at a state university in Central Java, Indonesia. The investigation conducted was related to EFL. The data of this study were collected through tests and a survey which was distributed online. This study revealed that there was a significant difference between students who were taught using Wattpad and those who were taught using paper-based writing (sig. 0.016 < α). Moreover, there were positive perceptions from the participants toward the use of Wattpad to enhance writing skills. Wattpad was perceived as a pleasurable media of learning where students could express various emotions, ideas, and thoughts. It gave chances to students to develop their writing. Further, this study is expected to give insight into future research related to the investigation of the use of Wattpad in developing writing skills. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper we will compare selected examples of writers' digital libraries, from the Renaissance to contemporary times, to study the different rhetorical strategies that preside over their digital discourse. Second, we will analyze how the rhetoric of digital discourse on digital libraries can influence the "author's posture" (Meizoz 2007), both at the institutional and individual level. We will discuss three different cases: the first is that of virtual, even "mental", "memory" (Ferrer 2001) libraries of authors of the past, reconstructed by specialists from the books these writers read or owned, as in the case of the MONLOE project-dedicated to Michel de Montaigne. The second is that of virtual libraries of "amphibious" authors, working in both media (print and digital), following the example of the forerunner François Bon. One of the most acute and poorly predicted social problems in modern educational institutions around the world and in Russia has become school shooting (armed mass attacks) with tragic consequences and a long-term subsequent media effect. Revenge, the will to power, the search for universal attention: what motivates school shooters and generates a chain of subsequent tragic attacks in educational institutions? To a large extent, this is determined not only by internal factors (mental, behavioral characteristics), but also by external influence, including informational ones. The study is devoted to the study of a underexplored segment of fan-literature about school shooting and its participants, posted on the Wattpat and Ficbook media resources, from the position of identifying the main gender, thematic and content characteristics that contribute to maintaining interest in school shooting, its glorification and mythologization. The characteristic of the specifics, forms and mechanisms of promoting the ideas of school shooting in the media environment is obtained by the example of communities of creators and readers of fanfiction. The study was carried out using the methodological capabilities of modern communication theories as well as using Data-Science. It has been revealed that through fan literature, the topic of school shooting has largely become legalized, expanded its audience, and became a “gray zone”, poorly controlled from the outside.

This article examines recent technological and cultural developments that have transformed the publishing industry in the past two decades—the rise of social media platforms for writing and reading genre fiction as well as the translingual practices they enable. My focus on the digital aims to update earlier studies of translingualism in a world literary space (Stephen G. Kellman, Pascale Casanova). In particular, I examine a French-language platform (Fyctia) and a multilingual one (Wattpad) to argue that digital platforms' affordances and constraints shape the translingual strategies of their writers and readers. The ratio of the number of readers of printed literary books to the population is gradually decreasing. One of the most important reasons is the continued increase of the time spent by young generations in the virtual environment using technological devices. Based on this interest of young people, digital platforms in new media equipped with literacy opportunities that will bring them together attract attention. In this study, the most frequently used words in Turkish books and the frequency of these words are emphasized on the Wattpad digital literacy platform, which has a significant user community in our country and where some works published on this digital platform are printed. The books examined in this study were selected by choosing Turkish among the language options on the home page of a newly generated 13-year-old profile on the Wattpad platform at 12:00 on 06.12.2021. By scanning all the books in this category, the first 10 books with the highest number of reads were determined and the texts of all the books were preprocessed and arranged. The membership date, gender and reading rates of the authors of these selected books were also revealed and the first 100 words used in these books, the frequencies of these 100 words and the total word ratio of these words in 10 books were determined. In addition, the first 50 words and their frequencies identified in this study were compared with the first 50 words found in Yazılı Türkçenin Kelime Sıklığı Sözlüğü and ve Çağdaş Türkçenin Sıklık Sözlüğü. It was concluded that although there were different periods and corpus, the first 50 words used in the written language and their usage frequency did not indicate a significant change.

This paper takes as its starting point the current debates surrounding new forms of reading and writing on online platforms, particularly those interfaces aimed at adolescent or young adult audiences. The focal point of this analysis is Wattpad, a digital literary production, distribution, and consumption platform that presents reading and writing as a communal, multimedia, and interactive phenomenon. This article outlines some of its key features, along with a brief data analysis aiming to sketch the general functioning of the algorithm that determines the success of texts published on the platform. By creating two databases using web scraping techniques and subsequently processing them using Python in the Jupyter Notebooks environment, this study draws partial conclusions about the potential of the website and some of its potential transformations in young adult reading and writing practices.

Studi kualitatif ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan analisis campur kode (CK) pada aspek jenis, bentuk, kode bahasa, pola frasa, dan faktor penggunaannya pada judul karya sastra yang dimuat di media literasi Wattpad. Penelitian ini bersumber dari judul karya sastra publikasi tahun 2023 yang dimuat dalam 23 tagar cerita yang selanjutnya direduksi sehingga analisis final dilakukan terhadap 14 judul sebagai representasi data lainnya yang serupa. Data dikumpulkan dengan prosedur simak, catat, dan tangkapan layar (screenshot). Data yang terkumpul dianalisis berdasarkan instrumen tagar cerita, judul karya, jenis CK, bentuk, dan pola struktur frasa M-D atau D-M serta uraian lebih lanjut mengenai faktor CK. Temuan penelitian ini adalah: (1) jenis CKKD, CKKL, dan CKC, (2) bentuk CK kata (akronim, kata majemuk, gabungan kata) dan frasa (frasa nominal), (3) kode bahasa sebanyak 8 bahasa, (4) pola frasa M-D sebanyak 5 frasa dan D-M sebanyak 2 frasa, dan (5) CK difaktori oleh penggunaan istilah yang lebih populer dan/atau modern, fungsi dan tujuan yang disesuaikan dengan topik dan konteks cerita, serta pokok pembicaraan, ragam bahasa, dan situasi yang informal. Simpulan dari temuan penelitian ini adalah bahwa CK pada judul karya sastra didasari oleh kesesuaian antara makna penyisipan dan pencampuran berbagai istilah dengan isi cerita. This study aims to explore the EFL students' Perception on use of the Wattpad application in helping reading comprehension. The research method used is a qualitative case study. The participants were three English Education students at a university in West Java, Indonesia. The data collection was carried out using semi-structured interviews. Then, the data analysis used the thematic analysis framework from Braun and Clarke (2006). The results of the study found two themes, namely (1) Wattpad Facilitates users for Reading Easily and (2) Achievement of Reading Comprehension Levels. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of Wattpad as a medium to teach narrative text writing to the tenth-grade students of SMK Negeri 5 Pontianak. This study was carried out using a pre-experimental study with one group pre and post-test design. The sample of this research was a cluster involving 30 students from Class X Tata Kecantikan I taken from a population of 334 students. The results indicated that the t-test was 12.489. The analysis of the pre-post-test scores indicated that the pre-test was lower than the post-test (71.52.045) with the degree of freedom 29 and ???? = 0.05. The analysis revealed that the null hypothesis was rejected while the alternative hypothesis is accepted. In addition, the effect size was categorized as a strong effect with the value (2.28>1.00). Therefore, the research referred that the use of Wattpad as a medium to teach students narrative text writing was effective with a strong effect. Despite its initial purpose, Wattpad can be a recommended media to teach tenth-grade students.

El objetivo de la investigación es analizar la contribución de la plataforma digital Wattpad en el incremento de hábitos de lectura en sus usuarios. Para alcanzar una comprensión profunda de este fenómeno, se adoptó una metodología cualitativa de tipo básica, con un diseño de enfoque fenomenológico-hermenéutico. La plataforma Wattpad sirvió como nuestro escenario de estudio. Se seleccionaron dos grupos de participantes: uno de 12 mujeres jóvenes, con edades comprendidas entre los 15 y los 24 años, que activamente leen en Wattpad, y otro formado por 6 expertos en plataformas digitales y fomento de la lectura. Ambos grupos son originarios de la ciudad de Trujillo, en Perú. Este estudio se articuló en torno a una categoría principal, dividida en tres subcategorías, cada una de las cuales se exploró mediante dos indicadores. Los datos se recopilaron mediante entrevistas, guiadas por un protocolo de entrevista predefinido. Posteriormente, se analizaron los datos mediante el método de análisis del discurso. Los resultados obtenidos de las entrevistas permitieron afirmar que el uso de Wattpad contribuye de manera significativa a la promoción y fortalecimiento de los hábitos de lectura entre sus usuarios. Los factores que contribuyen a esta afirmación incluyen las características distintivas de Wattpad, como su facilidad para interconectar a los usuarios, la creación de comunidades virtuales y el fomento de la inteligencia colectiva. Con base en los hallazgos, se recomienda incentivar especialmente el uso de Wattpad entre jóvenes y potenciar sus características de interconexión y creación de comunidades, además de implementar herramientas que fomenten la inteligencia colectiva.

Digital literature is literature in electronic/digital media. Such literature offers a forum for intensive communication, in which readers may provide suggestions, ideas, opinions, and comments. This feedback can provide new insights for a digital fiction storyline. This is what is called as a collaborative idea. The information transfer process on Wattpad uses the circular model of communication created by Osgood and Schramm during 1954. This research is conducted using the phenomenological method. The data is taken from a popular novel entitled The Devil's Own. The data is grouped using the theory of readers' comments patterns on digital literature. The results of this study show that the transfer of information on the Wattpad digital platform can be in the form of ideas, criticism, opinions, suggestions, and information, each of which represents a two-way form of interaction between the readers and the writer. This interaction continues until the work is complete. In the collaborative idea phase, the digital literary work is enriched through the process of combining the writer's and the readers' ideas. This article brings together the results obtained from carrying out post--doctoral research in the area of Literature, focusing on the field of Literary Studies. This initiative aimed to investigate the dynamics of intermedia reference, a concept by Irina Rajewsky that is present in texts whose plots are based on the layout of the WhatsApp and Instagram applications, published on Wattpad, a virtual literary self-publishing platform. Therefore, the findings obtained, in dialogue with the contributions offered by various scholars in the field, help us to understand the new configurations currently assumed by Literature and also the motivations that drive its production. Fan-fiction has a decades-long history of existence, with its debut preceding the invention of the internet. However, nowadays, fan-fiction in the form of writing has moved almost exclusively to designated platforms for hosting fanfiction as well as social media, where the terms and conditions permit it. The present paper aims to analyse the social media sites where fan-fiction creations were or are currently hosted within their selected communities and the ways in which the platforms are influencing the form of the text themselves. Wattpad, and AO3, as fanfiction hosting platforms, as well LiveJournal, Tumblr, and Twitter have been used as places to disseminate fan-fictional content, be it images or in textual form. The analysis will include the requirements of the content creators with regards to the platform prerequisites for publishing new content, as well as the limitations of the platforms and the effect they have on the fan-fiction itself, from shortened tags for ship names all the way to its structure. The paper aims to be a brief cataloguing of aspects of each platform in itself as well as the "unspoken rules" devised by individual fandoms for the purpose of making the content more accessible to readers and also to abide by the requirement for content warnings and tags with respect to the matters contained within the creation.

As more young girls write stories online thanks to the increased amount of publishing platforms, their fiction becomes a means to explore if they are offsetting prescribed practices of patriarchy in their gender constructions. Often, young women interrogate gender and recontextualize their experiences by writing fanfictions. In the age of transmedia storytelling, various online fan communities are rich data sources, as transnational female fans prolifically write fiction featuring icons from music and movies belonging to another country. We examined how young Indian girls frame gender roles and power dynamics in their fanfictions of BTS, the South Korean boyband, on Wattpad. To know if conventional gender frames are upheld or challenged in fanfiction stories revolving around non-Indian celebrities, we performed a textual analysis on forty-four BTS fanfictions. We found that in these fanfictions, existing gendered tropes used to depict masculinity and femininity are mostly normalized, with minor alterations reflecting a power imbalance typical in Indian patriarchal households. A subversion of tropes was found in framing men as emotionally expressive, arguably drawing from the soft masculinity projected in the home country of BTS–South Korea. Grounding these findings in self-categorization theory implores us to situate the construction of gendered identities within the socio-cultural conventions of fanfiction writers.

O presente artigo em desenvolvimento traz à apreciação o recorte de uma tese de doutoramento já defendida na área de Letras, com enfoque nos Estudos Literários. Trata-se da exposição de alguns dos principais achados acerca da imersão na plataforma virtual de autopublicação literária Wattpad, uma comunidade que abarca trabalhos autorais de caráter essencialmente eletrônico. Para tanto, elegemos os feitos de Anna Todd, wattpader estadunidense responsável por assinar os livros que integram a saga After, sucesso no ciberespaço e para além dos limites virtuais, uma vez ter passado também a protagonizar as páginas dos livros impressos, as graphic novels e as telas do cinema. Partindo dessa premissa, objetivou-se elucidar o contexto de manufatura de suas obras, assim como as especificidades que demarcam o seu processo criativo de elaboração textual. Diante disso, alguns importantes aportes de natureza teórica foram selecionados a fim de trilharmos o caminho aqui pretendido, tal como é o caso de Franco Moretti, Anne Jamison e Henry Jenkins, dentre outros nomes que contribuem aos diálogos entre Literatura e Cultura Digital. Em linhas gerais, verificamos que o distanciamento em relação ao objeto de análise selecionado se faz por vezes necessário à aproximação de uma compreensão significativa a respeito das práticas literárias eletrônicas em tempos contemporâneos e digitais.

Digital reading enriches the reading and writing experiences of the students. The study aims to explore and understand the lived experiences of the selected students in Muertegui National High School who are avid readers of Wattpad as a form of digital reading. The study used a phenomenological research design. There were fifteen participants who were purposively selected through snowball sampling. The data were gathered through face-to-face interviews using semi-structured interview questions. The interview process was transcribed and analyzed through the use of thematic analysis in generating codes and theme patterns. Findings showed that students started reading Wattpad because of their curiosity and recommendations from their friends. Students also read Wattpad as a form of relaxation and entertainment. Students also experienced sleep loss and deprivation of doing school works when reading Wattpad. Most students read romance fiction stories in Filipino - English language. Furthermore, students learn to value their self, and friends upon reading the Wattpad. They also learned that textbooks were still better to read than Wattpad. The study recommends conducting a quantitative study that will survey the effects of Wattpad in the students' lives. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aktivitas fandom menjadi komunitas yang sedang populer di kalangan anak muda pada saat ini. Fandom adalah sebuah kelompok yang terbentuk karena adanya ketertarikan dan minat yang sama akan suatu objek yang sama. Fandom merupakan bentuk dari budaya populer di mana aktivitas yang dilakukan oleh para penggemar menjadi bagian dari bentuk budaya partisipasi. Selain mengonsumsi produk budaya populer, beberapa penggemar juga mengekspresikan diri melalui fanfiction. Peneliti mencoba menganalisis fenomena fanfiction yang digunakan sebagai bentuk budaya partisipasi oleh penggemar Harry Styles di Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian grounded theory melalui wawancara online kepada lima informan yang merupakan penulis fanfiction Harry Styles di Wattpad. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kelima informan menjadikan kegiatan untuk menulis fanfiction sebagai bentuk dari penyaluran hobi dan pengisi waktu luang. Budaya artistic expression juga berperan dalam diri mereka sehingga mendukung mereka untuk menciptakan sebuah karya dan kreativitas ke dalam pengalaman yang lebih luas. Dari penelitian ini juga bisa dilihat bahwa mayoritas fanfiction Harry Styles memiliki genre romance dengan happy ending. Jenis fanfiction dengan unsur sexual menjadi lebih diminati oleh pembaca yang rata-rata merupakan anak muda. Fandom activities are becoming a popular community among youth currently. A fandom is a group formed because of the same interest and interest in the same object. A fandom is a popular culture where activities carried out by fans are part of a form of participatory culture. Besides consuming popular culture products, some fans also express themselves through fanfiction. This research analyzed the fanfiction phenomenon used by Harry Styles fans in Indonesia as participatory culture. This study used grounded theory research methods through online interviews. We interviewed five informants who are writers of Harry Styles fanfiction on Wattpad. The results of this study indicated that all five informants viewed their activities in writing fanfiction as a form of channeling their hobbies and filling their spare time. Artistic expression culture also plays a role, supporting them in creating work and creativity into a broader experience. From this study, it could also be seen that most of Harry Styles’s fanfiction has a romance genre with a happy ending. Types of fanfictions with sexual elements are becoming more attractive to readers, primarily young people.

In recent years, Wattpad has become the leading collaborative reading and writing platform allowing young writers to publish their works, some of which belong to the tradition of fan fiction, including stories derived from a source text from popular culture. The main objective of this article is to explore how teenagers reading and writing fan fiction on Wattpad apply transmedia skills related to production and narrative and esthetic reflection. Using a theoretical framework that integrates transmedia literacy, fan fiction communities as affinity spaces, and Wattpad as a tool to promote transmedia reading, we carry out a qualitative study using data collected from workshops, media newspapers, and interviews with adolescents in five different Spanish regions. The results highlight identity-play in the production of the stories, in which fanfics about real-life celebrities from the teenagers' media universes coexist with original stories inspired by the authors' personal lives and interests. Likewise, there is a trend toward the hybridization of fan fiction with languages and formats more typical of social media platforms, such as Instagram, with a superficial application of narrative and esthetic transmedia skills related to fan fiction practices. Wattpad is a community website that allows people to find stories from authors of various genres. This study aims to determine the pattern of fiction publishing in the Wattpad online community. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. The research data were obtained through three (3) informants who were productive fiction writers on Wattpad. The results show that the writers on Wattpad get ideas from an open-minded/objective view of many things, the environment, and experiences that are supported by information. The process of publishing starts from creating an account then filling in the details of the story, till publishing it. There are two types of publishing processes, namely the author submits the manuscript to the publisher or publisher who contacts the author. Apart from being published, some have been made into cinema films. This research concludes that writers on Wattpad can get story ideas from anywhere and then develop them into stories, while the publication process on Wattpad has no special rules because everything is based on the author and the existence of publications from Wattpad to other media such as a publishing and being made into cinema films.

Student literacy ability of Indonesian Literature Study Program in Ahmad Dahlan University still lacks attention and handling. This resulted in a low ability of students in literacy literacy skills. While literacy skills can help students to develop critical thinking, divergent thinking, and positive thinking in solving problems. As scholars, prospective scientists and agents of change, students are required to master literacy skills and critical thinking in facing the 21st century's fierce competition. Literacy ability in question here is literacy in the broad sense of being aware of technology, conscious of information, thinking critically, and sensitive to the environment. A person is said to have literacy skills if he is able to understand something because he reads the right information and does something based on his understanding of the contents of the reading. The use of the internet in literary learning is considered to be used as one of the learning models which is supposed to be able to foster independence in learning Popular Literature. To examine the learning process of Wattpad-based Popular Literature, this study uses the mixed methods approach. The results of the study show that the Wattpad application can help students to sharpen literacy skills. The use of Wattpad is considered to provide an interesting learning experience for students.

Dijitalleşme her geçen gün ekrana olan bağımlılığı arttırmakta ve kitap okuma alışkanlıklarının yanı sıra yazma alışkanlıklarını da değiştirmektedir. 2015’ten beri Türkiye’de popülerliğini artıran sosyal okuma ve yazma platformu Wattpad, sunduğu ücretsiz hikaye okuma ve yazma özelliğiyle 13-17 yaş ergen grubun yakından takip ettiği bir platform haline gelmiştir. Bu durum geleneksel kitap yayıncılarının da dikkatini çekmiş ve pek çok yayınevi Wattpad’den basılı olarak hikayeler yayınlamıştır. Bu nedenle bu çalışmada, kişisel yayıncılık platformu Wattpad, Wattpad yayınları ve yayınevlerinin Wattpad’le ilişkisinin açıklanması hedeflenmiştir. Bu bağlamda Türkiye’de Wattpad’den çeşitli yayınevleri tarafından yayınlanan 361 adet kitap genel hatlarıyla olmak üzere, kitapyurdu.com üzerinden en çok satılanların arasından amaçlı örneklem yöntemiyle seçilen 5 basılı kitap ise ayrıntılı olmak şartıyla incelenmiştir. Böylece yazarlık-yayıncılık anlayışı gün geçtikçe değişse de günümüzde yayınevlerinin prestijlerini hale devam ettirdiği, teknolojik ve kültürel anlamda değişimlere ayak uydurarak yeni medya platformlarıyla ortak bir çalışma yürüttüğü, okur ve yazarlar için de basılı olana karşı ilginin sürdüğü ortaya çıkartılmıştır. Ayrıca incelenen Wattpad kitaplarında okur kitlesine uygun olmayan dil kullanımı ve davranışlar, birbirine benzer konular kaleme alındığı tespit edilmiştir.

The purpose of the study was to find out which one is more effective between wattpad and blog in project based learning to teach written analytical exposition text. This study was a quasi-experimental research. The subject was the eleventh grade students of SMA Ibu Kartini Semarang in the academic year of 2018/2019.They were divided into experimental group 1 and experimental group 2. The experimental group 1 was taught using wattpad while the experimental group 2 wastaught using blog as the learning media and both of them used project based learning as the teaching method. The pre-test result revealed that the mean score of the experimental group 1 was 60.76 and the experimental group 2 was 60.69.Meanwhile, the post-test mean scores of experimental group 1 and experimental group 2 were 80.23 and 74.46. The t-test showed that there was a significant difference between the experimental group 1 and the experimental group2 since t-value was higher than t-table (4.490 > 2.064). It could be concluded that both wattpad and blog were effective to teach writing skills. However, the use of wattpad was more effective than using blog in project-based learning to teach written analytical exposition text.

This article investigates how readers and writers engage on the Wattpad platform. As examples of the digitalization of book culture, platforms such as Wattpad allow converging practices of reading and writing by means of collaborative community actions of prosumption in a data-driven environment of communication and cultural exchange. Following the concepts of prosumption, communities of practice and the platformization of media cultural production, I refer to Wattpad's converging practices of reading and writing as 'platformized book prosumption'. To understand how platformized book prosumption works on the Wattpad platform, I will analyse the reading and writing of the most frequently read COVID-19 online diary as a case study. Digital platforms have reshaped the creative industries and restructured relationships between media sectors. Creative writing and reading social media platforms like Wattpad are challenging what it means to publish fiction in the early 21st century, and digital streaming platforms like Netflix, Hulu and others have begun looking to these platforms to source creative content for adaptation. Praxis on creative writing social media platforms is shaped by a complex and ongoing interplay between the technocultural and socio-economic conditions of platforms and their users. This article argues for an integration of publishing studies and platform studies by applying a media ecology framework to map behaviour on Wattpad, one of the largest creative writing social media platforms, and the relationships it has developed with other media companies. Specifically, it draws on and extends José van Dijck's ((2013) The Culture of Connectivity: A Critical History of Social Media. New York, NY: Oxford University Press.) microsystem/ecosystem connective media model and proposes a broader conceptualisation of the entertainment ecosystem that incorporates adaptation of content across the book publishing and entertainment media sectors. Mapping these platforms alongside legacy media and publishing companies offers a productive framework for theorising contemporary entertainment media production within the platform media landscape. This article discusses the evolution and popularity of the Mary Sue character in the works by Wattpad social platform users on the basis of Teenage Dirtbag by SumNawaz. The study maps the relationships between the rise of fan-fiction on the social platform, characteristics of autobiographical genres and the idealized characters constructed subconsciously by young authors. The analysis of the sub-genre of Real Person Fiction reveals the elements binding the fiction genre and the Mary Sue character, presenting the differences and similarities between contemporary versions of the character and its archetype introduced in the 1960s. The study enhances the understanding of “imaginative reading” and reveals the variety of literary tendencies enabled by new social media technologies.

Wattpad is one of the sites and blogging applications that provide facilities for users to write and read, meaning that the users can write stories and also read stories created by other users. One of the postings made by the user is fanfiction which is the imagination of fans about idols especially Kpop idol in the form of writing. The purpose of the study is to understand the motivation and know the process of making fanfiction by Kpop fans who write fanfiction on Wattpad. The research method used is grounded theory in which the researcher tried to find data by online and offline interview and observation on 10 informants with criteria is Kpop fans who write fanfiction in Wattpad. The results showed that there was a motivation from inside and outside of Kpop fans and the process of making fanfiction consists of three stages: the creative process, the writing process and the editing and posting process.

Yeni medya dolayımıyla izleyici/kullanıcının, alımlama/okuma alışkanlıkları değişime uğramıştır. Yeni medyanın interaktif katılıma imkan tanımasıyla, alıcı medya içeriğini tüketen olmasının yanı sıra içeriği üreten, şekillendirebilen bir nitelik de kazanmıştır. Bu bağlamda alıcılar, anlatıya etki ederek içeriği dönüştürebilmektedir. Hedef kitlenin etkileşimini içeren bu anlatı tarzında, aynı içerik farklı platformlardan yayınlanarak daha geniş bir kitleye ulaştırılabilmektedir. Transmedya hikâye anlatıcılığı olarak adlandırılan bu kavrama göre, bir içerik çeşitlenerek birden fazla platformda alıcısına ulaşmaktadır. Çalışmada, kullanıcılara ücretsiz olarak, hikayelerini paylaşma ve diğer üyelerin paylaşımlarını okuma platformu sağlayan bir uygulama olan “Wattpad” bir transmedya hikaye anlatıcılığı örneği olarak ele alınmıştır. İlk olarak online bir hikaye okuma-yazma platformu şeklinde kullanıcısıyla buluşan Wattpad hikayeleri, basılı kitaplardan, sosyal ağlardaki hayran gruplarına ve sinema filmlerine kadar farklı mecralardan kitlesine ulaşmaktadır. Çalışmada yapılan araştırmada Wattpad okur kitlesinin tercih ve alışkanlıklarının incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Söz konusu okur/hayran kitlesinin, Wattpad okuma tercihleri, Wattpad’den nasıl haberdar oldukları, arkadaşlarına tavsiye etme, yazar ve yayıncılarla iletişim kurma durumları ve en çok beğendikleri kitap ve yazarlar araştırılmıştır. Wattpad kullanıcılarının genel durumlarını incelemek için bu araştırmada nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden deneysel araştırma yöntemi uygulanmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak yüz yüze anket yapılmıştır. Çalışmanın hipotezlerinden ilki, Wattpad okuma tercihinde arkadaş ve sosyal çevrenin etkisinin bulunduğudur. Bir diğer hipotez, Wattpad yazarları ile kurulan iletişimin okuma alışkanlıklarını olumlu yönde etkilediğidir. Sonuncu hipotez ise, Wattpad okurlarının beğendikleri içerikleri, transmedya biçiminde farklı mecralarda da takip etmeyi tercih ettikleri yönündedir. Çalışmanın sonucunda tüm hipotezlerin doğrulandığı görülmektedir. Wattpad okurlarının çoğunluğunun, yazarlarıyla iletişime geçmeyi tercih ettikleri, öncelikle mizahi ve sade bir dili olduğu için bu kitapları seçtikleri ve arkadaşlarının tavsiyesi ile okumaya başladıkları sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

Abstract: This paper presents the integration between the use of technology and conventional learning and teaching process. Taking advantage of technology in classroom like the use of Wattpad by integrating with process-genre approach helps students to make the classroom activities become more efficient. This objective of this paper is to show the effect of using Wattpad in teaching and learning process by integrating with process-genre approach towards students’ writing achievement. The treatment starts from pre-test, and end with post-test. The result in this study shows after the students teach by using Wattpad gain better writing achievement than before using it. Abstrak: Penelitian ini berisi tentang integrasi antara penggunaan teknologi dan pembelajaran konvensional pada proses pembelajaran. Mengambil kelebihan dari teknologi pada pembelajaran di kelas, seperti penggunaan Wattpad dengan mengintegrasikan pendekatan Process-genre, hal ini meningkatkan tingkat keefisiensian kegiatan pemblejaran di kelas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat keefektifan penggunaan Wattpad yang diintegerasikan dengan pendekatan process-genre pada proses pembelajaran terhadap penacapaian menulis siswa. Penelitian yang dilakukan dimulai dari pretest dan diakhiri dengan posttest. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan siswa yang telah belajar menggunakan Wattpad memiliki pencapaian menulis yang lebih baik daripada sebelum menggunakannya.
