RIVM rapport:Het RIVM heeft in kaart gebracht wat volwassenen in de periode 2012-2014 aten en dronken. Vervolgens is dat vergeleken met de richtlijnen voor gezonde voeding van de Gezondheidsraad uit 2015. Dit rapport beschrijft de situatie van de voedselconsumptie in Nederland voordat de richtlijnen van kracht werden. De consumptie van een aantal productgroepen zit in de buurt van de aanbevolen hoeveelheden in de richtlijnen. Een paar andere staan er verder van af. Meer dan de helft van de volwassenen eet de aanbevolen enkele porties zuivel per dag. Daarnaast is ongeveer twee derde van de geconsumeerde smeer- en bereidingsvetten smeerbaar of vloeibaar; de richtlijn beveelt aan vetten zo veel mogelijk in deze vorm te gebruiken. Ook eet bijna de helft van de volwassen Nederlanders conform de desbetreffende richtlijn minstens 90 gram bruin en volkoren graanproducten per dag. Minder goed gaat het bijvoorbeeld met de consumptie van groente: slechts 15 procent van de volwassenen eet de aanbevolen hoeveelheid van dagelijks 200 gram groente. Eenzelfde percentage haalt de richtlijn voor fruit (200 gram fruit). Verder eet circa een op de vijftien volwassenen de aanbevolen hoeveelheid noten van 15 gram of meer per dag. Peulvruchten staan eens in de drie weken op het menu, in plaats van wekelijks. Ook drinkt vrijwel iedereen suikerhoudende dranken (inclusief vruchtensappen): gemiddeld twee kleine glazen per dag terwijl de Gezondheidsraad aanbeveelt daar zo min mogelijk van te nemen. Dit onderzoek, uitgevoerd onder ruim duizend volwassenen, maakt deel uit van een breder onderzoek naar de voedselconsumptie in Nederland van 1 tot 79-jarigen in de periode 2012-2016. RIVM rapport:De afgelopen vijf jaar zijn Nederlanders minder aardappelen, vetten en oliën, alcoholische dranken, zuivel, koek en gebak en vlees gaan eten. De consumptie van niet-alcoholische dranken en kruidenmixen en sauzen is toegenomen. De hoeveelheid groente en graanproducten bleef ongeveer gelijk. Uitzondering hierop is dat kinderen relatief meer zuivel en fruit eten en volwassenen meer drinken (zowel alcoholische als non-alcoholische dranken). In totaal consumeert een Nederlander gemiddeld ruim 3 kg per dag aan eten en drinken. Bijna 2 kg hiervan is in de vorm van dranken (thee, koffie, water, frisdranken, alcohol en andere dranken). Waar eten we? Nederlanders eten vooral thuis (80 procent). Voedingsmiddelen die vaker buitenshuis worden gegeten zijn koek en gebak, fruit en vis. Alcoholische dranken en vis worden relatief vaak in restaurants gebruikt. Adolescenten en volwassenen eten relatief meer op school of op het werk (respectievelijk 15 en 19 procent), ouderen juist meer thuis (85 procent). Interim report RIVM investigates the food consumption in the Netherlands of 1 to 79 year-olds in the period 2012-2016. This report provides the results for the period 2012-2014. RIVM rapport:De Schijf van Vijf is een hulpmiddel om gezond te eten. Uit onderzoek van het RIVM blijkt dat bijna driekwart van de voeding van Nederlanders bestaat uit 'basisvoedingsmiddelen' zoals die in de Schijf van Vijf zijn beschreven. Dit zijn bijvoorbeeld groente en fruit, aardappelen, brood, rijst en pasta, zuivel, vlees en vis, vetten en oliën, en water. Een kwart van de voeding bestaat uit producten die hier niet in zijn beschreven, zoals snacks en (niet-)alcoholische dranken. Dit is meer dan wordt aanbevolen. Verder kiezen Nederlanders binnen productgroepen veelal de minder gezonde producten, zoals witte rijst in plaats van zilvervliesrijst of harde margarine in plaats van olie. Dat is nog meer bij kinderen en bij personen met een laag sociaaleconomische status het geval. De Schijf van Vijf is gebaseerd op de Richtlijnen voedselkeuze van het Voedingscentrum. Een eetpatroon dat meer overeenkomt met deze richtlijnen, kan ervoor zorgen dat mensen onder andere meer onverzadigde vetzuren en voedingsvezels binnenkrijgen en minder suiker en zout. Een gezond voedingspatroon draagt bij aan het voorkomen van chronische ziekten en overgewicht. Binnen de productgroepen, zowel uit de Schijf van Vijf als daarbuiten, wordt een onderscheid gemaakt tussen de gezondere producten en de minder gezonde. De mate waarin mensen voor gezondere producten kiezen, verschilt per productgroep. Van de groep aardappelen, pasta en rijst is dat bijvoorbeeld 49 procent, van hartige snacks is dat slechts 3 procent. Kinderen consumeren meer zoete en hartige snacks, niet-alcoholische dranken (zoals vruchten- en frisdrank) en broodbeleg (zoals jam, hagelslag en pindakaas). Mensen met een hoge sociaaleconomische status kiezen vaker voor de gezondere producten. Zij eten meer groente, fruit en vis en drinken meer water, koffie en thee. Ook drinken zij meer alcoholische dranken. Dit onderzoek is uitgevoerd met gegevens uit de Nederlandse Voedselconsumptiepeiling van 2007-2010 en het Nederlands Voedingsstoffenbe, The 'Schijf van Vijf' is a tool for planning a healthy dietary pattern. The proportion of healthy foods varies between food groups. For example, 49% of potatoes, rice and pasta but only 3% of salty snacks are considered healthy. Furthermore, children consume more sweet and savoury snacks, non-alcoholic beverages (such as fruit juices and soft drinks) and spreads (jams and peanut butter) than adults. People with high socioeconomic status often opt for healthier products. People with high socioeconomic status consume more vegetables, fruit, fish, water, coffee and tea. RIVM rapport:Dit rapport bevat een erratum na blz. 37 Nederlanders tussen 7 en 69 jaar krijgen over het algemeen voldoende jodium binnen. Doordat brood een belangrijke bron van jodium is, krijgen mensen die weinig brood eten mogelijk te weinig jodium binnen. Mensen die maximaal 1 snee brood per dag eten, krijgen gemiddeld 35 tot 40 procent minder jodium binnen dan mensen die minstens 4 sneden brood per dag eten. Jodium is van belang voor een normale groei en ontwikkeling en voor een goede stofwisseling. Een tekort aan jodium kan de werking van de schildklier verstoren. Tijdens de zwangerschap en in de eerste levensjaren kan een tekort aan jodium een verminderde cognitieve ontwikkeling veroorzaken. Door de toevoeging van gejodeerd bakkerszout is brood een belangrijke bron van jodium in Nederland. Sinds 2009 is de hoeveelheid zout in brood een aantal keer verlaagd in verband met de inspanningen om het productaanbod gezonder te maken. Op verzoek van het ministerie van VWS heeft het RIVM berekend wat het effect van deze verlaging is op de jodiuminname in de Nederlandse bevolking en twee mogelijke risicogroepen. Mensen die brood zonder gejodeerd (bakkers)zout consumeren, zoals een deel van het biologische brood of het zelfgebakken brood, zijn mogelijk een risicogroep om te weinig jodium binnen te krijgen. Het is onbekend of deze personen via andere voedingsmiddelen hun jodiuminname op peil houden. De huidige gegevens over de Nederlandse voedselconsumptie geven namelijk geen inzicht in de mate waarin mensen brood zonder gejodeerd zout consumeren, en dus ook niet in het voedingspatroon van deze consumenten. Zwangeren en vrouwen die borstvoeding geven hebben meer jodium nodig in vergelijking met vrouwen van dezelfde leeftijd. Er is onvoldoende bekend over het voedingspatroon van zwangeren en vrouwen die borstvoeding geven in Nederland. People who consume bread without iodized salt (e.g. organic bread or homemade bread) might also be at risk for low iodine intake. It is unknown whether people who consume bread without iodized salt use other iodine-rich foods to meet the iodine requirement. In the most recent food consumption survey no information was obtained on the consumption of organic or homemade bread and thus not on the dietary habits of these consumers. The iodine requirement for pregnant and lactating women is higher compared to women of the same age. There is a lack of information about the dietary pattern of pregnant women in the Netherlands. If the dietary pattern of pregnant women resembles that of women of childbearing age, about 10% of the pregnant women and about 50% of the lactating women do not have a sufficiently high iodine intake. It is important to gain insight in the iodine status of pregnant and lactating women and their dietary habits, especially considering the consequences of insufficient iodine intake for their (unborn) child.

Dit blijkt uit onderzoek van het RIVM in opdracht van het ministerie van Volksgezondheid, Welzijn en Sport (VWS). Aanbevolen wordt om de jodiuminname bij de Nederlandse bevolking in de gaten te houden. Jodium is nodig voor een normale groei en ontwikkeling en voor een goede stofwisseling. Jodiumgebrek kan een slechtwerkende schildklier veroorzaken, en kan bij jonge kinderen bovendien leiden tot een verminderde hersenontwikkeling. Maar ook een te hoge jodiuminname kan de schildklierwerking verstoren. Jodium zit van nature in voedingsmiddelen als zuivelproducten en nietalcoholische dranken (zoals water, koffie en thee, vruchtensappen, frisdranken). Daarnaast is brood, door het gebruik van gejodeerd zout, een belangrijke bron voor jodium. Behalve aan brood mag gejodeerd zout sinds enkele jaren aan bepaalde voedingsmiddelengroepen (broodvervangers, vleeswaren, keukenzout) toegevoegd worden. Sinds 2008 mag jodium aan vrijwel alle voedingsmiddelen worden toegevoegd. Toen is ook het maximum gehalte van jodium in zout verlaagd om een te hoge jodiuminname te voorkomen. In de praktijk blijken producenten van voedingsmiddelen echter minder vaak gejodeerd zout te gebruiken dan was aangenomen. Dit verklaart de gedaalde jodiuminname ten opzichte van vóór 2008. Lagere zoutconsumptie en de jodiuminname: Het ministerie van VWS streeft ernaar de zoutconsumptie te verlagen. Daardoor kan ook de consumptie van gejodeerd zout dalen, een belangrijke bron voor jodium. Het is daarom van belang de jodiuminname bij de Nederlandse bevolking in de gaten te houden. Als de jodiuminname onvoldoende lijkt te worden, kan deze op peil worden gehouden door bijvoorbeeld te stimuleren dat voedingsmiddelenproducenten meer gejodeerd zout gebruiken. But in practice, food producers added iodized salt less frequently than expected. This explains the decrease in iodine intake compared to the situation prior to 2008. Decrease of salt and iodine intake: One aim of the VWS Ministry is to reduce the intake of salt in the population in the Netherlands. As a consequence, the consumption of iodized salt - which is an important source of iodine - will also decrease. This emphasizes the importance of monitoring the iodine intake in the Dutch population. If the iodine intake looks as if it is becoming deficient, then measures can be taken to boost the supply of iodine. For instance, food producers can be stimulated to use more iodized salt

RIVM rapport:De overheid stimuleert dat mensen gezonde voeding en veilig voedsel eten. Een onmisbaar instrument om dit beleid te onderbouwen en te evalueren is de voedselconsumptiepeiling (VCP), die dit jaar 25 jaar bestaat. Hierin wordt gedetailleerd in kaart gebracht wat de Nederlandse bevolking eet en drinkt. Het RIVM heeft nu een afgeslankt en herijkt voedingspeilingsysteem ontwikkeld, omdat de uitvoering van het systeem vanwege de taakstelling en beschikbare financiële middelen onder druk staat. Minder inzicht in voedingspatroon subgroepen Het aangepaste systeem levert nog altijd essentiële basisinformatie op om beleid te ontwikkelen en te evalueren voor de beleidsthema's voedselveiligheid, gezonde leefstijl en informatieverstrekking naar de consumenten. Op verzoek van het ministerie van VWS wordt eraan gewerkt de gegevens ook voor andere doeleinden in te zetten. Hetzelfde geldt voor voedingsmiddelen die door weinig mensen worden gegeten. Invulling drie modules Het afgeslankte voedingspeilingsysteem behoudt de drie oorspronkelijke modules. Module 1 is de belangrijkste module. Om de zes jaar vindt uitgebreid voedselconsumptieonderzoek plaats onder personen van 1 tot en met 79 jaar. In deze periode wordt vier jaar lang data verzameld. De deelnemers wordt dan gevraagd wat zij eten en drinken op twee specifieke dagen; voor kinderen en ouderen wordt dat ondersteund met een dagboekje. Daarnaast vullen deelnemers een vragenlijst in. Module 2 richt zich op voedingsstatusonderzoek van de algemene bevolking, dat met andere monitorings- en cohortstudies wordt uitgevoerd. Voedingsstatusonderzoek geeft inzicht in de gehalten van specifieke vitaminen en mineralen in bloed of urine. Module 3 omvat aanvullend onderzoek, afhankelijk van beleidsbehoeften. Every six years extensive food consumption research is conducted among persons aged 1 to 79 years. For this purpose, data collection is done over a period of four years. Participants are asked what they eat and drink on two specific days, for children and the elderly this is supported by a food diary. In addition, participants complete a questionnaire. Module 2 focuses on nutritional status surveys in the general population, in collaboration with other monitoring and cohort studies. The nutritional status module provides insight into the levels of specific vitamins and minerals in blood or urine. Module 3 includes additional

Wel is het type vet in de voeding verbeterd, doordat vooral de hoeveelheid transvetzuren in voedingsmiddelen is afgenomen. Het aandeel verzadigde vetzuren in de voeding is echter nog ongunstig en overgewicht komt frequent voor. Dit blijkt uit recente voedselconsumptiegegevens van het RIVM. Hiervoor is tussen 2007 en 2010 in kaart gebracht wat kinderen en volwassenen consumeren. Belang gezond voedingspatroon: Een gezond voedingspatroon is van belang om overgewicht en chronische ziekten tegen te gaan. Met de verkregen kennis van het huidige consumptiepatroon kan een gezondere voeding worden gestimuleerd. Dit kan via veranderingen in het voedselaanbod en het voedingsgedrag. Inname van vitamines en mineralen: Uit de peiling blijkt ook dat een deel van de bevolking minder vitamine A, B1, C en E, magnesium, kalium en zink binnen krijgt dan wordt aanbevolen. Onderzoek is nodig naar de effecten hiervan op de gezondheid. Verder wordt het advies aan specifieke leeftijdsgroepen voor hogere innames van foliumzuur (voor vrouwen die zwanger willen worden), vitamine D (voor senioren), ijzer (voor vrouwen in de vruchtbare leeftijd) en calcium (voor adolescenten) lang niet altijd opgevolgd. Dit onderschrijft de adviezen van de Gezondheidsraad aan genoemde groepen om foliumzuur- en vitamine D-supplementen te slikken. Voor de lage inname van ijzer en calcium zijn de gezondheidsconsequenties onduidelijk. Hiernaar is meer onderzoek nodig. Toepassingen voedselconsumptiegegevens: Deze voedselconsumptiepeiling bevat gedetailleerdere gegevens dan de vorige bevolkingsbrede peiling in 1997/1998. This observation underlines the advice of the Health Council of the Netherlands to these specific groups with regard to the use of folate and vitamin D supplements. The effects on health of low iron and calcium intakes are unclear; more research is needed in this area. Use of food consumption data: The last survey that included information on food consumption in the Dutch population was conducted in 1997/1998. The recent survey (2007-2010) provides more detailed information. The data from this survey can be used to support policy regarding healthy and safe foods, for improving food supply and in food education and research.

RIVM rapport:Het rapport beschrijft een instrument waarmee de beoordeling van voeding en lichamelijke activiteit aan de hand van de Richtlijnen Goede Voeding (RGV) gevisualiseerd wordt in een figuur, zodat in een oogopslag inzicht kan worden verkregen in de voedingssituatie van de bevolking of de betreffende bevolkingsgroep. De figuur betreft een cirkel verdeeld in segmenten. Elk segment beschrijft de situatie van een bepaalde voedingsfactor of van de mate van activiteit. De kleur van het segment geeft aan of er reden tot bezorgdheid is, en de grootte geeft aan in welke mate gezondheidswinst te behalen is. Bij gebleken bruikbaarheid voor het voedingsbeleid (en/of andere toepassingsgebieden) zou het instrument opgenomen kunnen worden in rapportages van voedselconsumptiepeilingen., In the report an instrument is described that visualizes the assessment of nutrition and physical activity against the Guidelines for a Healthy Diet of the Health Council of the Netherlands into one single figure, in order to provide an overall view of the nutritional situation of the population or subgroup of the population. The instrument consists of a circle divided into a number of parts. Each part describes the situation with respect to a specific nutritional factor (vegetables, fruit, fibre, fish, saturated fat, trans-saturated fat, salt, alcohol) or level of physical activity. The colour of each part indicates whether there is reason for concern and the size points at the level of health gain that might be obtained by complying with the Guidelines. Within each part there is a small circle indicating in percentage points to what level the percentage complying with the Guidelines has increased or decreased in comparison with previous surveys on the nutritional situation. In the report the instrument has been applied to data from recent Dutch food consumption surveys (VCPs) with adults in the age of 19-30 years (VCP Young Adults, 2003) and with children aged 2-6 years (VCP Young Children, 2006). The instrument could not be fully applied to these two subgroups because of lacking data and therefore it was necessary to use fictitious examples to be able to demonstrate all aspects of the instrument. As soon as the instrument has proven to be valuable to nutrition policy (or perhaps to other application fields such as nutrition information and education) the instrument might get a permanent position in the reports on food consumption and nutrition surveys.

De ongezonde voeding van deze generatie kinderen kan leiden tot overgewicht en op latere leeftijd tot chronische ziekten. Beleid is nodig om een gunstig lichaamsgewicht te bevorderen en om de consumptie van groenten, fruit, vis, vezelrijke producten en voedingsmiddelen met een goede vetzuursamenstelling te stimuleren. Een peiling onder kinderen van 2 tot en met 6 jaar laat zien dat het aandeel van vet, eiwitten en koolhydraten in hun voeding goed is. Wel is het type vet in de voeding van veel jonge kinderen ongunstig. Ze eten te weinig vis (rijk aan visvetzuren) en vooral de voeding van kleuters bevat te veel verzadigde vetzuren. Daarnaast zijn er weinig jonge kinderen die voldoende groenten eten. Voor fruit is het beeld iets gunstiger: een op de vier jonge kinderen eet de geadviseerde hoeveelheid. Verder is een op de zeven kinderen in mindere of meerdere mate te dik. Het lijkt erop dat zij dus meer energie binnenkrijgen dan verbruiken. Jonge kinderen krijgen van de meeste vitamines en mineralen voldoende binnen. Van vitamine D en foliumzuur is de inname echter laag. Slechts drie op de vijf peuters gebruikt een supplement met vitamine D. Vervolgonderzoek is nodig om vast te stellen of daadwerkelijk sprake is van tekorten. Bovendien is nader onderzoek nodig naar de gevolgen van een hoge inname van zink, koper, retinol (een type vitamine A) en synthetisch foliumzuur bij een deel van de kinderen., Young children in the Netherlands aged 2 to 6 years do not consume sufficient amounts of vegetables, fruit, fish and fibre. In addition the intake of saturated fatty acids is higher than recommended in the 4 to 6 year-old age group. This unhealthy diet can lead to overweight, and later in life to chronic diseases. Policy measures need to focus on achieving optimal body weight, increasing intakes of vegetables, fruit, fish and fibre, and improving the fatty acid composition in the diet of young children. A food consumption survey of young children (2 to 6 years of age) in the Netherlands has shown the diet to be adequate in terms of the proportions of total fat, carbohydrates and protein. However, the fatty acid composition of the diet isunfavourable, because fish consumption (rich in fish fatty acids) is low, and saturated fatty acid intake especially in 4 to 6 year-old children is high. Only a small proportion of children meet the recommended vegetable intake. For fruit the situation is slightly more favourable (one in four). Furthermore, one in seven children was found to be overweight or obese, indicating a positive energy balance in the period prior to the study. Intakes of most vitamins and minerals were shown to be adequate, with the exception of vitamin D and folate. Only three in five children aged 2 to 3 years received the recommended vitamin D containing supplements. The implications of the low intakes of vitamin D and folate and the high intakes of zinc, retinol, synthetic folic acid and copper need to be investigated.

Dit kan aan de hand van onderzoek in bloed en urine, ook wel voedingsstatusonderzoek genoemd. Momenteel wordt de inneming van vitaminen en mineralen bepaald door middel van voedselconsumptiepeilingen. Hierbij wordt gewerkt met de navraag van de voedselconsumptie. Met behulp van voedingsstatusonderzoek kunnen signalen uit de voedselconsumptiepeiling van een mogelijk te lage inneming (vitamine B2, foliumzuur, vitamine B12, vitamine D, magnesium, ijzer, zink) of te hoge inneming (vitamine D, natrium, zink) worden getoetst. Voor enkele mineralen kan de inneming niet goed worden bepaald, dit is het geval voor jodium, natrium en seleen. Met statusonderzoek kan wel de beschikbaarheid in het lichaam worden bepaald voor deze mineralen. Voor allochtone bevolkingsgroepen wordt om praktische redenen aanbevolen om statusonderzoek uit te voeren voorafgaand aan voedselconsumptieonderzoek. De te bepalen parameters voor de vitaminen B2, B12, D en foliumzuur en voor de mineralen magnesium, natrium, ijzer, jodium, seleen en zink worden in het rapport besproken. Ook voor vitamine A, calcium en chroom zou voedingsstatusonderzoek gewenst zijn; echter voor deze voedingstoffen zijn momenteel geen goede parameters beschikbaar., It is important to be able to determine the actual supply of vitamins and minerals in the population, a procedure that can be carried out by using parameters applied to blood or urine. This is also called nutritional status assessment. At the moment, the intake of vitamins and minerals is determined in the Dutch National Food Consumption Surveys. In these food consumption surveys, dietary monitoring is done via 24-h dietary recalls. Signals of possible inadequate intake (vitamin B2, folate, vitamin B12, vitamin D, magnesium, iron, zinc) and the potential risk of an excessive intake (vitamin D, sodium, zinc) from the surveys can be evaluated through a nutritional status assessment. Information gained through such an assessment can also compensate for the lack of knowledge in the Netherlands about the nutrient supply of iodide, sodium and selenium. And finally, status assessment is recommended as being more practical than dietary monitoring for immigrant groups. Parameters for the vitamins B2, folate, B12 and D, and the minerals magnesium, sodium, iron, iodide, selenium and zinc are also discussed in the report. Although status assessment is also advisable for determination of the supply of vitamin A, calcium and chrome, appropriate parameters are not currently available.

RIVM rapport:Abstract niet beschikbaar, In studies and regulations on the ingestion of radionuclides, which are present in food, information on food consumption is in general limited to the average consumption of a population or to the consumption of large subgroups of a population. However, an insight in the individual variation in food consumption is essential for assessing maximal doses which may be received by individuals. The data collected in a large food consumption research programme in the Netherlands are used to assess the variation and extremes in consumption for one-year-olds and for adults and children of 10 to 11 years old, male and female separately. The variation in food consumption appears to be rather similar for all classes of food and all population groups considered. Extremely high consumption, relative to the average consumption of the population group considered, is slightly higher for adults than for other population groups.
