Participants underwent detailed ophthalmic examinations, including spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT). VMT was defined as abnormal posterior vitreous detachment with anatomical deformation of the fovea, which may include pseudocyst, macular schisis, cystoid macular edema, and subretinal fluid.Main Outcome Measure: Prevalence of VMT.Results: A VMT was detected in 151 (2.3%) eyes (prevalence rate (mean ± SE): 2.3± 0.2%; 95% CI: 1.9%, 2.7%) of 80 (2.4%) subjects (prevalence rate: 2.4± 0.3%; 95% CI: 1.9%, 2.9%). Mean age of all subjects with VMT was 70.1± 8.7 years (median, 70.0 years; range, 50– 90 years), mean refractive error was − 0.22 ± 2.38D (median, 0.25 D; range, − 15.00 to 5.25D). In multivariate analysis, prevalence of VMT was associated with elder age (P=0.001, OR 1.06), female gender (P = 0.036, OR 1.77), subfoveal retinal thickness (P = 0.005, OR 1.01), and subfoveal choroidal thickness (P = 0.026, OR 0.10).Conclusion: In adult Chinese in Greater Beijing, the prevalence of VMT was 2.3% for eyes or 2.4% for subjects. While it was associated with elder age, female gender, thicker subfoveal retinal thickness and thinner subfoveal choroidal thickness.Keywords: vitreous macular traction, optical coherence tomography, the Beijing Eye Study

AIM: To explore the efficacy of minimally invasive vitrectomy (MIV) with or without internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling on the treatment of diabetic macular edema (DME) in proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) combining with preoperative anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) injection. METHODS: Totally 132 eyes (132 patients) diagnosed PDR with DME were included between June 2015 and June 2018 in Tianjin Eye Hospital. The single MIV treatment group included 68 eyes and the MIV combined with ILM peeling group included 64 eyes. Anti-VEGF drugs were injected intravitreally 1wk before the operation and the period of follow-up was 1 to 3y. Best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), central retinal thickness (CRT), total macular volume (TMV), macular edema (ME) severity, intraocular pressure (IOP), and complications were recorded. Purpose: To estimate the efficacy and safety of ocriplasmin for patients with vitreous macular traction (VMT). Methods: The PubMed, EMBASE and Ovid were searched up to May 2020 to identify related studies. Statistical analysis was conducted by R software version 3.6.3. Results in proportion with 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated by means of Freeman–Tukey variant of arcsine square transformation. Results: The pooling results indicated the overall complete release rate was 50% (95% CI [45%–54%]). For VMT patients younger than 65 years old, with smaller adhesion size of VMT (<1500 μm), phakic eyes, with macular hole (MH) and subretinal fluid (SRF), while without epiretinal membrane (ERM), ocriplasmin could achieve much higher complete release rates than those under opposite conditions. The general nonsurgical closure rate of MH was 34% (95% CI [30%–37%]), and it was positively correlated with the MH size. The visual improvement rate was 45% (95% CI [32%–59%]), and it was higher for patients with VMT resolution (59%, 95% CI [41%–75%]). The secondary pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) rate for patients without MH closure or VMT resolution was about 31% (95% CI [23%–39%]). The incidence of MH progression was 10% (95% CI [4%–18%]), and other severe adverse events such as endophthalmitis, retinal detachment and retinal tear were relatively rare. Conclusion: Ocriplasmin is an effective, reliable and relatively safe intervention for the treatment of VMT. The most suitable candidates were patients younger than 65 years old, with smaller adhesion size (<1500 μm), phakic eyes, with MH and SRF, while without ERM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
