The Micro-resistivity scanning logging instrument has the characteristics of high well wall coverage, high resolution, and intuitive visualization, which can improve logging accuracy, especially in the identification of thin layers, and can make clear and accurate discrimination. To study the motion accuracy's reliability of push system of micro-resistivity scanning logging instrument, MATLAB and ADAMS software were applied, and based on the Monte Carlo method, motion simulation was conducted on the pole plate, the push arm, corresponding rod components and gaps of the push system, and the reliability analysis of motion accuracy was carried out. The results show that the displacement changes of the measurement points of the error model of the push system are more significant than those of velocity and acceleration, and the impact of displacement changes on reliability is greater than those of velocity and acceleration. The motion accuracy reliability calculated using MATLAB software is 0. 983 0, and the motion accuracy reliability simulated using ADAMS software is 0. 988 7. Velomobiles, despite their potential for efficient transportation, remain relatively unknown compared to electric cars, receiving limited attention in academic research and public awareness. This paper highlights their untapped potential and underlines public interest in their adoption, provided a velomobile meeting customer requirements is available. Leveraging the Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) methodology, this work presents a structured approach to design, focusing on customer needs translation and digital prototype validation. This iterative process ensures velomobiles meet performance criteria while minimizing environmental impact. The lack of standardized testing for the energy consumption of Human-Powered Vehicles (HPVs) is addressed by proposing an analysis of consumption under diverse operating conditions, giving information on the environmental assessments. This study underscores velomobiles’ potential as a sustainable transportation solution and provides a framework for their design, validation, and optimization.

A 3-DOF parallel manipulator with X, Y movement and Z rotation for the end-effector is studied in order to meet the requirements of copying and polishing of louver blades. In order to verify the kinematic performance of the manipulator, firstly, the mechanism characteristics are described, and the degree of freedom of the mechanism is analyzed based on the spiral theory. Secondly, the kinematics equations of the mechanism are constructed based on the closed-loop vector method, the forward and inverse position solutions are analyzed, and the analysis results are preliminarily verified by concrete examples. Finally, the numerical simulation model and virtual prototype model of the mechanism are constructed, and the inverse kinematics simulation analysis of the position and velocity is carried out. The simulation results show that the analysis results of the two models are consistent, and the result of inverse solution is reliable. The arm chain can coordinate the movement, the movement process is smooth, and the displacement and velocity curves are smooth and without mutation, and can provide a basis for the size optimization and motion control of the manipulator.

Taking the point contact gear with circular-parabola configuration as the research object, based on the Adams dynamic analysis software, dynamic characteristics and the variable law of tooth surfaces are studied in this study. Firstly, according to space meshing theory, tooth surfaces equation of the point contact gear with circular-parabola configuration is derived, and three-dimensional solid models of gear pairs are established by the given design parameters. Secondly, the virtual prototype of point contact gears with circular-parabola configuration is established utilizing Adams software. Through simulation process, variation law of normal contact force, circumferential force, radial force and axial force of the gear are discussed. Change law of normal contact force under the same parameters and working conditions are analyzed between the point contact gear with circular-parabola configuration and general involute helical gears. Influences of meshing stiffness on normal contact force of the gear are also discussed. Research results show that the dynamic performance of point contact gears with circular-parabola configuration is better than that of general involute helical gears under the same parameters and working conditions. Meshing stiffness has a certain influence on the dynamic performance of tooth surfaces. For a reasonable variable range, the transmission process will be more stable with the increase of the meshing stiffness. The study can provide a basis for the design of point contact gears with circular-parabola configuration.

The safety of aircraft landing on wet runways is of great importance in runway risk management. In order to ensure landing safety on wet runways, real-time risk warning is required. This paper proposes a method to assess aircraft landing risk in real-time based on finite element-virtual prototype-machine learning co-simulation. Firstly, a tire-water film-runway finite element model was constructed, a virtual prototype model was built based on the Airbus A320 model, and the results of the tire-water film-runway local finite element dynamic analysis were transferred to the system simulation of the virtual prototype for co-simulation. Secondly, considering the influence of wet state parameters on the runway, a database of aircraft anti-skid failure risk was constructed, and three machine learning models were trained to predict aircraft landing risk. The results show that the Support Vector Machine (SVM) model has better generalization capability and should be used to predict the risk level of aircraft landing. The efficacy of the comprehensive taxiing model was validated using an empirical formula for determining the aircraft's landing distance on a wet runway. When an aircraft lands on a runway with an average water film thickness of 8 mm, the braking time is approximately 1.6 times longer than on a dry runway, and the braking distance is roughly 5.3 times greater than on a dry runway. Finally, a risk assessment example was provided: the entire process from landing information input to risk level output for the aircraft model took only 80 ms, which could provide an efficient and real-time aircraft landing risk assessment.

In order to study the influence of various factors on the transmission error of an RV (rotate vector), the working principle and structure of reducer are analyzed, and the ratio is calculated. The mass-spring equivalent model is used to calculate the force, and the mathematical model of transmission error is established and combined with the translation-torsion coupling model. The transmission performance of the RV reducer was characterized using ADAMS and compared with the mathematical model. The effects of three different modification methods and load analysis techniques at different output terminals on the transmission error and frequency ratio are compared. Increasing the meshing clearance between cycloid gear and pin tooth will increase the error. An RV reducer test bench is established to compare the influence of different speeds and torques on transmission error. The analysis shows that the gap between the secondary cycloidal pin gear transmission and the crankshaft installation error is the main cause of the tooth gap. In tunnel construction, over-excavation and under-excavation by the roadheader often occur, which can lead to rough excavation cross-sections that require subsequent treatment resulting in additional time and cost. With a view to improving the quality of excavated tunnels, increasing the speed of the roadheader in tunneling applications, and accurately controlling the excavation process, a virtual prototype (VP) of the roadheader is built using Pro/Engineer, ADAMS, ANSYS, and EASY5. A mechanical model of the system is established and relationships between hydraulic piston expansion length, speed, and boom swing angle are determined. Then, a support vector regression (SVR) internal model controller is introduced into the roadheader swing system. An electromechanical fluid coupling automatic control system model is also established. Combining VP technology with the SVR algorithm, an internal model and inverse model of the roadheader horizontal swing system are obtained. Multi-domain co-simulations are performed. When the SVR internal model controller is incorporated, the gyration platform is more reliable, and the target position can be quickly tracked by the system. The cutting test bench of roadheader was built, and the cutting experiments were carried out by using SVR and PID control methods. Although the PID control system has a faster response, it is only 1.61 s faster than SVR, and the PID control method has a much higher over-excavation amount than SVR control method, and the maximum over-excavation amount is 3.22 times of SVR controller. Therefore, the SVR controller has better control over the over-excavation phenomenon and higher control accuracy. So the proposed method can be used to effectively solve the over-excavation and under-excavation problem. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The research work centered on the relationship between virtual fitting and physical fitting of an apparel developed for fishmongers using computer-aided design in Aba Metropolis. Specifically, the study was designed to test virtually the fit of an apparel developed for fishmongers using CAD; to test physically the fit of an apparel developed for fishmongers and to determine the relationship between the virtual fitting and physical fitting of an apparel developed for fishmongers using CAD. Three research questions and one hypothesis guided the study. The population for the study was thirty students and three lecturers in clothing and textile in the University of Uyo. Purpose Sampling technique was employed to select all the thirty students and three clothing and textile lecturers as judges. Their population was small and they have adequate knowledge of computer-aided design and virtual prototype. The instrument was the relationship between virtual prototype fitting and physical fitting of apparel developed for fishmongers (RVPFPF). Descriptive statistics of frequency mean and standard deviation were used to analyze the research questions while Pearson Product-Moment Correlation was used to test the hypothesis at .05 level of significance. The findings revealed that the students and the judges rated the fit of the functional apparel very good for virtual and physical fitting as their cluster mean were above 3.00 on fit of shoulder, bust, waist overall length and neckline. The cluster mean for virtual were 4.28 and 4.27 and physical fitting 3.36 and 3.16 respectively while standing and bending. There was no significant difference in the mean responses of the students and the judges on the relationship between the virtual and physical fit of the apparel. It was therefore concluded that virtual prototype fitting is essential when developing apparel using CAD before the actual physical fitting. Tracked inspection robots have demonstrated their versatility in a wide range of applications. However, challenges arising from issues such as skidding and slipping have posed obstacles to achieving precise and efficient trajectory control. This paper introduces a method to determine the steering parameters of robot based on the surrounding obstacles and road information. The primary objective is to enhance the steering efficiency of tracked robots. The corresponding relationship between the track speed, driving force and track steering radius of the tracked robot is obtained. Considering the influence of track skid and slip, relationship models about the steering radius and traveling speed of the robot are established. The minimum and maximum steering radii in the obstacle avoidance process are analyzed, and a mathematical model of the relationship between the steering angle of the robot and the distance between the side obstacles is established. The trajectory deviation model of the tracked robot is established, and a principle analysis of the LiDAR ranging is completed. This lays the foundation for a steering measurement and control system for tracked robots. ADAMS(2020) software is used to establish the multi-body dynamics model of the tracked robot, and three different obstacle-avoiding steering control strategies are designed for the robot in a simulated environment with space obstacles. The simulation experiment demonstrates that the robot achieves more efficient obstacle avoidance steering through the use of differential steering, leading to a decrease in both track skid and slip rates. Through the simulation experiment, it can be seen that the robot uses differential steering to complete the obstacle avoidance steering movement more efficiently, and the track skid and slip rates are smaller. The simulation results are used to complete the steering control experiment of the tracked robot on different road surfaces. The results show that by adjusting the track driving parameters, the robot can effectively complete the obstacle-avoiding steering movement by using the differential steering control strategy, which verifies the accuracy of the steering control strategy. The sudden change in the interface between coal-rock mass can lead to the increased abrasion of picks and the failure rate of mining machinery. The safe and efficient coal-rock identification technology is the key to realize the intelligent control of coal mining machinery. To realize the real-time perception and accurate recognition of coal-rock cutting state information, a novel coal-rock cutting state identification model based on the Internet of Things (IoT) is explored. Specifically, by using the virtual prototype technology, multi-source heterogeneous data from acquisition, processing and identification of coal-rock cutting state information are fused and analyzed. First, the paper analyzes the physical and mechanical characteristics of coal-rock mass, and takes the cutting drum of bolter miner as the research object to theoretically analyze its load, which provides a foundation for the research on coal-rock cutting state identification. Second, a rigid-flexible coupling virtual prototype model of the cutting drum and coal-rock models under different cutting conditions are established. The simulation process is implemented by employing the discrete element method (DEM) to ensure the real-time transmission of motion information and state characteristic signals. Ultimately, the dynamic information of drum load during the coal-rock cutting process is obtained. Finally, LVQ (Learning Vector Quantization) and PSO-BP (Particle Swarm Optimization-Back Propagation) neural networks are created, and the variation coefficient, waveform factor, and peak factor of load curves of cutting drums in the coal-rock mass with different firmness coefficients are input into the neural networks as feature vectors for state recognition. The experimental results show that LVQ and PSO-BP neural networks can be used for coal-rock cutting state identification, and PSO-BP network has faster convergence speed and higher recognition efficiency, which provides a new scheme for coal-rock cutting state identification to improve the safety and efficiency of coal mining machinery.

Virtual reality (VR) enables prototypes of devices to be evaluated in a simulation of a future usage environment. A disadvantage is the insufficient feedback design during the interaction with prototypes. In this study, we investigated how virtual control elements in VR must be designed to compensate for the lack of feedback. Therefore, 35 participants performed VR tasks using a virtual joystick and virtual rotary control. According to the design of experiments method, 12 factors, such as haptic feedback, sensitivity, size, and shape, were systematically varied. The control accuracy, task time, user experience, presence, and mental workload were recorded. The effect of a factor on the recorded parameters was examined using multifactorial ANOVA. Linear regression was used to calculate the mathematical models between the factors and parameters. These models were used to calculate the optimal design of the control elements in the VR. For rotary control, eight factors had a significant influence on the recorded parameters. There were seven factors for the joystick. With mathematical models, optimized control element designs for VR were calculated for the first time. These findings can help to better adapt prototypes and human–machine interfaces to different modalities in VR. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to accelerate and simplify the design of the active magnet bearing (AMB) system, a virtual prototype model is constructed using the Simulink/Simscape toolbox for an AMBs-supported unbalanced rigid rotor with five degrees of freedom. With this model, rapid visual modeling and co-simulation of such a complex coupled system involving multiple physical domains are realized on a single computing platform. The simulation results show that this virtually developed AMBs-supported rotor system has good suspension characteristics and stable operation under random imbalance interference. With the notch filter, compensation of the imbalance at a fixed speed is realized, which also effectively reduced the exciting force transmitted to the base. The system robustness is improved and has a certain anti-interference ability in the axial direction after the controller parameters are automatically adjusted by the PID tuner. The proposed parametric modeling and simulation of an AMB system on Simscape can be used to easily and quickly modify the structural parameters and control parameters of a virtual prototype, and further analyze the dynamic characteristics of the system, so it provides a new solution for the structure design and control-algorithm development of the AMB systems based on the target experimental physical prototype. User evaluations of prototypes in virtual reality (VR) offer high potential for products that require resource-intensive prototype construction, such as drilling rigs. This study examined whether the user evaluation of a VR prototype for controlling an onshore drilling rigproduces results comparable to an evaluation in the real world. Using a between-subject design, 16 drilling experts tested a prototype in VR and reality. The experts performed three different work processes and evaluated their satisfaction based on task performance, user experience, and usability via standardized questionnaires. A test leader evaluated the effectiveness of the work process execution using a 3-level rating scheme. The number of user interactions and time on task were recorded. There were no significant differences in the effectiveness, number of interactions required, perceived usability, and satisfaction with respect to task performance. In VR, the drilling experts took significantly more time to complete tasks and rated the efficiency of the VR prototype significantly higher. Overall, the real-world evaluation provided more insights into prototype optimization. Nevertheless, several usability issues have been identified in VR. Therefore, user evaluations in VR are particularly suitable in the early development phases to identify usability issues, without the need to produce real prototypes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Garment simulation enables the reduction of physical prototypes, saving time, material and costs. Complete elimination of physical prototypes is not yet possible because simulation is not reliable enough for a robust fit analysis. In addition, predictions of the textile-physical behaviour of virtually available materials would be useful. A new approach is being developed to represent the material and construction properties of textile surfaces, their correlations and their influence on the simulation. Based on the material parameters, conditions for a reliable simulation and prediction of the material behaviour can be derived. A lower limb exoskeleton rehabilitation robot can effectively improve the rehabilitation efficiency of patients with impaired lower limb motor function and reduce the workload of rehabilitation physicians. Therefore, a lower limb exoskeleton rehabilitation robot is designed, the relationship between the motion state of the exoskeleton robot and the motion mechanism of each joint is explored, the Lagrange equation to model the dynamics of the lower limb exoskeleton is used and the established virtual prototype model into Adams for dynamic simulation is imported. Further, the torque changes of each joint of the lower limb exoskeleton rehabilitation robot in different motion states are obtained. The data are analyzed to verify the correctness of the data, which provides a theoretical basis for the next step of the physical prototype fabrication and the selection of the actuator.

Recently developed high-fidelity finite element (FE) models represent a state-of-the-art approach for gaining a deeper understanding of the vibrational behavior of musical instruments. They can also be used as virtual prototypes. However, certain analyses, such as optimization or parameter identification, necessitate numerous model evaluations, resulting in long computation times when utilizing the FE model. Projection-based parametric model order reduction (PMOR) proves to be a powerful tool for enhancing the computational efficiency of FE models while retaining parameter dependencies. Despite their advantages, projection-based methods often require complete system matrices, which may have limited accessibility. Consequently, a systematic discrepancy is introduced in the reduced-order model compared to the original model. This contribution introduces a discrepancy modeling method designed to approximate the parameter-dependent effect of a radiating boundary condition in an FE model of a classical guitar that cannot be exported from the commercial FE software Abaqus. To achieve this, a projection-based reduced-order model is augmented by a data-driven model that captures the error in the approximation of eigenfrequencies and eigenmodes. Artificial neural networks account for the data-driven discrepancy models. This methodology offers significant computational savings and improved accuracy, making it highly suitable for far-reaching parametric studies and iterative processes. The combination of PMOR and neural networks demonstrate greater accuracy than using either approach alone. This paper extends our prior research presented in the proceedings of Forum Acusticum 2023, offering a more comprehensive examination and additional insights.

User experience and user acceptance of a product are essential for the product’s success. Virtual reality (VR) technology has the potential to assess these parameters early in the development process. However, research is scarce on whether the evaluation of the user experience and user acceptance of prototypes in VR, as well as the simulation of the usage environment, lead to comparable results to reality. To investigate this, a digital twin of a blood pressure monitor (BPM) was created using VR. In a 2 × 2 factorial between-subjects design, 48 participants tested the real or VR BPM. The tests were performed either in a low-detail room at a desk or in a detailed operating room (OR) environment. Participants executed three use scenarios with the BPM and rated their user experience and acceptance with standardized questionnaires. A test leader evaluated the performance of the participants’ actions using a three-point scheme. The number of user interactions, task time, and perceived workload were assessed. The participants rated the user experience of the BPM significantly (p < .05) better in VR. User acceptance was significantly higher when the device was tested in VR and in a detailed OR environment. Participant performance and time on task did not significantly differ between VR and reality. However, there was significantly less interaction with the VR device (p < .001). Participants who tested the device in a detailed OR environment rated their performance significantly worse. In reality, the participants were able to haptically experience the device and thus better assess its quality. Overall, this study shows that user evaluations in VR should focus on objective criteria, such as user errors. Subjective criteria, such as user experience, are significantly biased by VR.

Engineered material arresting system (EMAS) is a foamed concrete arrestor that can arrest aircraft overrunning the runway. Identification of the arresting effect of foamed concrete materials on overrunning aircraft is crucial for optimizing EMAS. By coupling the Discrete Element Method (DEM) and the Virtual Prototype Method (VPM), the EMAS crushing process and the aircraft dynamics are simulated simultaneously. The material properties of different foamed concrete were firstly determined via experiments, and then adopted as input for DEM of EMAS. Subsequently, the VPM of A320 aircraft with various overrun speeds was established. The rationality of the DEM-VPM model was verified by the field test result. The sensitivity analysis on the arresting processes reveals that a 67% increase in EMAS thickness and a 102% increase in material strength can enhance the arresting performance by 96% and 11.5%, respectively. However, freeze–thaw has negative effect. In addition, higher overrun speeds of the aircraft can cause greater acceleration and drag forces, and thereby magnify the risk of damage to the aircraft.

With the development of aerospace technology, more and more scientific activities are carried out in the universe. Due to the microgravity environment of space, the control of the 6-DOF platform is different from those on the earth. First, a virtual prototype model of the 6-DOF non-contact platform was built in ADAMS. The dynamics model was developed based on the Newton-Euler method. Then, the 6-DOF backstepping sliding mode controller and disturbance observer were designed in MATLAB/Simulink. Finally, by combining the virtual prototype model in ADAMS and the control system in MATLAB, the co-simulation model was proposed. According to the simulation results, the 6-DOF backstepping sliding mode controller can well complete the positioning, 3D trajectory tracking, and vibration isolation tasks of non-contact 6-DOF platform. Quantitatively, the spatial error of backstepping sliding mode controller's 3D trajectory tracking is only 50% of the ordinary sliding mode control and it is 20% of the nonlinear propotional-derivative-integral. The installation and commissioning of fish processing lines can be challenging and expensive since many failures occur here. Each fish has its unique weight, shape, sliminess, and rigidity. The parameters, combined with fish behavior, represent the essential data for developing equipment and machines for fish processing lines. However, there is a lack of engineering approaches that address this data. Currently, most engineers design processing lines based on their experience of what will work. During New Product Development, however, it is challenging to predict fish behavior within new machines and systems. In this study, the researchers used the simulation program Unity to develop digital fish that were then used to test a fish processing line. The physics engine in Unity allows for mapping of parameters of the digital fish that correspond to natural fish behavior. A conveyor belt system was designed and imported into Unity and tested with digital fish. A physical version of the same conveyor belt system was built and tested with fish to verify the digital model. The experts from the industrial review board tested the prototype. They verified that the simulation of the fish processing line with digital fish gives a similar flow and distribution of fish as the physical fish processing line. The research indicates that using the program with a physical engine has the potential to make the design process more efficient and eliminate design flaws. This study aims to improve the vehicle vertical dynamics performance in the sprung and unsprung state for in-wheel-motor-driven electric vehicles (IWMD EVs) while considering the unbalanced electric magnetic force effects. An integrated vibration elimination system (IVES) is developed, containing a dynamic vibration-absorbing structure between the IWM and the suspension. It also includes an active suspension system based on a delay-dependent H ∞ controller. Further, a novel frequency-compatible tire (FCT) model is constructed to improve IVES accuracy. The mechanical-electrical-magnetic coupling effects of IWMD EVs are theoretically analyzed. A virtual prototype for the IVES is created by combining the CATIA, ADAMS, and MatLab/Simulink, resulting in a high-fidelity multi-body model, validating the IVES accuracy and practicability. Simulations for the IVES considered three different suspension structure types and time delay considerations were performed. Analyses in frequency and time domains for the simulation results have shown that the root mean square of sprung mass acceleration and the eccentricity are significantly reduced via the IVES, indicating an improvement in ride comfort and IWM vibration suppression. In-wheel-motor-drive electric vehicles have attracted enormous attention due to its potentials of improving vehicle performance and safety. Road surface roughness results in forced vibration of in-wheel-motor (IWM) and thus aggravates the unbalanced electric magnetic force (UEMF) between its rotor and stator. This can further compromise vertical and longitudinal vehicle dynamics. This paper presents a comprehensive study to reveal the coupled vertical–longitudinal effect on suspension-in-wheel-motor systems (SIWMS) along with a viable optimization procedure to improve ride comfort and handling performance. First, a UEMF model is established to analyze the mechanical–electrical–magnetic coupling relationship inside an IWM. Then a road–tire–ring force (RTR) model that can capture the transient tire–road contact patch and tire belt deformation is established to accurately describe the road–tire and tire–rotor forces. The UEMF and the RTRF model are incorporated into the quarter-SIWMS model to investigate the coupled vertical–longitudinal vehicle dynamics. Through simulation studies, a comprehensive evaluation system is put forward to quantitatively assess the effects during braking maneuvers under various road conditions. The key parameters of the SIWMS are optimized via a multi-optimization method to reduce the adverse impact of UEMF. Finally, the multi-optimization method is validated in a virtual prototype which contains a high-fidelity multi-body model. The results show that the longitudinal acceleration fluctuation rate and the slip ratio signal-to-noise ratio are reduced by 5.07% and 6.13%, respectively, while the UEMF in the vertical and longitudinal directions varies from 22.2% to 34.7%, respectively, and is reduced after optimization. This research established a virtual prototype of the sugarcane cutting system. The influence of the harvester on the cutting time of sugarcane stalks under the conditions of different forward speeds and cutting disc speed was studied. Using a dual variance analysis of the experimental data, it was revealed that the rotating speed and forward speed of the cutter disc of the sugarcane cutter had a significant influence on the cutting time. The empirical regression equations between the cutter spin speed-n of the sugarcane cutting device, the forward speed-v of the harvester, and the cutting time-T are given, that is, T = 12.38 - 0.5875 v - 0.0137 n . Further analysis of repeated cutting and missing cutting during the cutting process was conducted. The result revealed that the optimized cutting disc speed range value was as follows: 423–579 rpm, and the optimal forward speed range value is as follows: 0.66–3.07 m/s. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
