- Abstract
Objective: to identify the therapeutic guidelines of self-catheterization in patients affected by neurogenic bladder from a legal perspective, confronting the constitutional protection of the right to life with the ethical and social postulates of a nursing. Methods: theoretical-reflexive essay, carried out in the period from May 2016 to January 2017, from practical field activities of the multiprofessional residence of the Federal University of Amazonas. Results: the nursing professional plays a very paramount importance in relation to patient's assistance as healthcare promotion in acute and chronic spinal cord injury. With the advancement of technology, the care status and nursing praxis have undergone significant changes, therefore requiring new guidelines, actions and guidance designed for the new scenario. Final Considerations: it is understood that the practice of self-catheterization can cause damage to the urethrovesical structure. Thereby, hygiene, physical comfort, and bladder re-education are essential for prevention of sequelae in the patient and promotion of well-being. Nursing comes over time by building and strengthening their performance scenarios and in front of this we need a new reflective and transforming state for the profession. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Neurogenic Bladder is classified as a dysfunction of the lower urinary tract resulting from interruption of the nerve roots, with vesico-sphincter alterations and disturbances in the filling and emptying phases. Its symptoms include urinary urgency, increased frequency of daytime urination, nocturia, and also the absence or presence of urinary incontinence, which reflect both on the patient's physical and mental health and on their social life. Considering the symptoms of the pathology, this study is a literature review, which sought to list the physical therapy treatments available in the literature. Searches were carried out in the Cochrane, Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), LILACS, PhysiotherapyEvidenceDetabase (PEDro) databases. The results highlighted the physical therapy techniques that showed positive results for the Neurogenic Bladder, among them, electrostimulation in the sacral region and peripheral nerves, interferential electrical stimulation, electroacupuncture, combined therapy, training for pelvic support muscles and bipolar radiofrequency. It is concluded that physiotherapy has proven to be effective in symptoms of BN, with methods that are easily accepted and adaptable to patients, providing benefits and better quality of life for this audience. Lower Urinary Tract Dysfunction (DNTUI) or also known as Neurogenic Bladder (BN), refers to voiding disorders caused by neurological disorders in the Central or Peripheral Nervous System, where they cause changes in patients' voiding patterns, especially in the bladder innervations. sphincter, and in the filling or emptying phases. Among the physical therapy interventions, electrical stimulation is a viable form of treatment, with good results, easy application, low cost and no side effects. The objectives of this review is to investigate the effectiveness of electrical stimulation in patients with neurogenic bladder in various neurological disorders . The electronic databases PubMed and SciELO were used. 10 studies were selected to carry out this review. The results showed that electrical stimulation in the posterior tibial nerve was used in 70% of the studies, appearing in the majority, while the use of electrical stimulation in the parasacral nerve was mentioned in 30% of the articles. The most used frequency was 20Hz and the pulse width ranged between 200 and 500 μs. The results showed a decrease in neurogenic bladder symptoms, regression of urinary losses and had a impact on bladder filling time. Therefore, it has been shown that the posterior tibial and parasacral nerves, as they are easily accessible, help in carrying out the treatment of the neurogenic bladder, making it safe and painless.

Abstract Introduction: The diagnosis of overactive bladder is made from clinical suspicion, the use of a voiding diary (VD) is recommended as part of its initial assessment. The VD is not a standard measure in Colombia, due there being no valid VD. The aim of this study is to adapt the 3- day bladder diary (3dBD) validated in Spain by Jimenez-Cidre et al. in women with overactive bladder seen in the Urological clinic. Material and methods: A description is presented on the results of a representative population of 20 women with clinical suspicion of overactive bladder used to culturally adapt the 3dBD. Instructions were given on how to complete the 3dBD and the QQ10 as Likert scale. The transcultural validation of the 3dBD was carried out by assessing the terms used in the original 3dBD and replacing them with words easier to understand by our population. Results: In the QQ10 the average score of the questions that assess the positive aspects of the 3dBD was 3.3, with 4.0 being the highest score. All the patients complete the 3dBD, which suggest a good feasibility. Conclusions: The 3dBD is a useful tool, validated and reliable in Spain for assessing women with overactive bladder. With the transcultural validation of the 3dBD, this VD can now be use in our population, given its good feasibility, validity and reliability.

Objectives: measure and compare the quality of life of neurogenic bladder patients using intermittent urinary catheterization who were going through rehabilitation in Brazil and Portugal. Method: multicenter, quantitative, cross-sectional, observational-analytic and correlational study executed in Brazil and Portugal. Two data collection tools were used, being one questionnaire with sociodemographic and clinical data and the World Health Organization Quality of Life-bref. Patients were included who were over 18 years of age, suffering from neurogenic urinary bladder and using intermittent urinary catheterization. Results: in the sample of Brazilian (n = 170) and Portuguese (n = 52) patients, respectively, most patients were single (87-51.2%; 25-48.1%), had finished primary education (47-45.3%; 31-59.6%) and were retired (70-41.2%; 21-40.4%). Spinal cord injury was the main cause of using the urinary catheter in both countries. The Brazilian patients presented higher mean quality of life scores in the psychological domain (68.9) and lower scores in the physical domain (58.9). The Portuguese patients presented higher scores in the psychological domain (68.4) and lower scores in the environment domain (59.4). The execution of intermittent urinary self-catheterization was significant for both countries. Conclusions: in the two countries, these patients’ quality of life can be determined by the improvement in the urinary symptoms, independence, self-confidence, social relationships and access to work activities. OBJECTIVE: to investigate the factors affecting the adequate continuous use of intermittent catheterization and its relation with social support.METHOD: sectional, descriptive and correlational study involving 49 patients with neuropathic bladder caused by spinal cord injury.RESULTS: almost all (92%) participants continued the intermittent catheterization, but 46.9% made some changes in the technique. The complications (28.6% of the sample) were mainly infection and vesicolithiasis. There were high scores for social support in relation to people that were part of the patient's social support.CONCLUSION: All of them noticed great support from the family, but not from the society in general. The difficulties were related to the lack of equipment and inadequate infrastructure, leading to changes that increased urologic complications. - Abstract
