- Abstract
The General Teaching Council for England (GTC) commissioned RAND Europe in 2008 to undertake a perceptions audit, to take the temperature on its current status and to inform its future work with teachers, organisational partners and the wider public. A perceptions audit is a method for gathering opinions and views of selected informants about how they see the topic in question, and analysing the range and aggregation of those views to present a snapshot at a moment in time. This report presents the findings of that perceptions audit. This report contains four chapters. Chapter 1 introduces the context and objectives of the study. Chapter 2 describes the perceptions of the GTC that interviewees provided. Chapter 3 contains a synthesis of the interview material and presents the emerging issues. Chapter 4 outlines some next steps that the GTC could consider. Appended are the methodology, organisations interviewed, interview questions, and the GTC Vision Statement. (Contains 2 footnotes.)
