Background: Low vaccination rates, especially in rural regions, and vaccine hesitancy are serious problems for public health. The goal of this study is to determine whether the BeSD (Behavioral Support for Vaccination) tool has a positive impact on parents who live in rural areas near Visakhapatnam who choose to vaccinate their children. The BeSD tool is made to help people make educated decisions about immunizing their children and to alleviate vaccination hesitancy. Methods: To assess the effect of the BeSD tool on immunization uptake, a quantitative research technique was used. Using a standardized questionnaire, a sample of 374 parents from rural areas near Visakhapatnam were questioned. The survey had parts on vaccination uptake, risk factors for vaccine hesitancy, and the use and efficacy of the BeSD tool. A statistical analysis of the data was done using the right techniques. Results: According to this study's findings, 64.17% of the parents who participated in the survey said their children had received all recommended vaccinations, 23.00% said their children had received some vaccinations, and 12.83% said they had not. Lack of knowledge (32.09%), safety worries (20.86%), and a lack of faith in vaccines (17.38%) were all factors in vaccine hesitation. The BeSD tool's use led to a 64.17% vaccine uptake among the intervention group. Conclusion: The findings of this study show that the BeSD tool has the potential to increase vaccination rates among parents who live in rural areas close to Visakhapatnam. The BeSD tool can assist increase immunization rates and contribute to better public health outcomes by addressing vaccine reluctance through focused interventions, such as offering information and support. Abstract In these times of pandemic, the acceptance or rejection of vaccines has become increasingly clear, with a considerable rise in the anti-vaccine movement in Spain. It is important to understand the attitudes that lead a person to refuse vaccination in order to develop more effective public health campaigns. The objective of this study has been to study the psychometric properties and measurement invariance of the Vaccination Attitudes Examination (VAX) scale in a Spanish sample. Confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modelling have been used to study the psychometric properties of the VAX. Likewise, the measurement invariance by gender and educational level has been studied. The structure of four related factors for VAX is confirmed, as well as its predictive value, since the factor “trust in the benefit of the vaccine” clearly predicts the choice to be vaccinated. The strong measurement invariance by gender and educational level is also confirmed. The comparison of latent means between groups indicates that there are no differences by gender in any factor. However, people with a high educational level present higher scores in factors “concern about unforeseen future effects”, “concern about commercial effects and speculation” and “preference for natural immunity”. The VAX is presented as a reliable and valid tool to assess four different factors related to attitudes towards vaccines in Spain. Future studies of its cross-cultural invariance may help to determine the main factors that lead people not to be vaccinated in order to develop more effective public health campaigns.

Background: A global surplus of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines exists as a result of difficulties in aligning the demand and supply for vaccine manufacturing and delivery. World leaders have accelerated vaccine development, approval, production and distribution as a pragmatic approach to addressing the immediate public health challenges of the first two and a half years of the pandemic. Main body: The currently predominant, highly transmissible Omicron variant of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 has brought us closer to the threshold required to achieve herd immunity by greatly increasing rates of natural infection. Paradoxically, in parallel with rising vaccination levels in industrialized nations, this indirectly reduces the need for mass vaccine campaigns. Principal concerns that contribute to low vaccination rates which persist in several other countries, particularly of the Global South, are vaccine hesitancy and unequal access to vaccination. Social uncertainty fueled by fake news, misinformation, unfounded lay opinions and conspiracy theories has inevitably led to an erosion of public trust in vaccination. Conclusion: To address the current mismatch between supply and demand of COVID-19 vaccines, there should be a focus on three principles: decelerating vaccine production, increasing distribution across communities, and optimizing cost-effectiveness of distribution logistics. Slowing down and switching from large-scale production to effectively 'made to order' is a feasible option, which should be commensurate with management capacity. Transparent and evidence-based data should be widely and freely disseminated to the public through multimedia channels to mitigate miscommunication and conspiracy theories. Use of soon-to-expire stockpiles should be prioritized not only to enhance booster dose rollouts in adults but to expand immunization campaigns to children (especially those aged 5–11 years), subject to national approval. Future research should ideally aim to develop vaccines that only require basic, affordable storage and maintenance procedures as opposed to sophisticated and expensive protocols. Objectives: French Guiana, the least-vaccinated French territory, also has the lowest COVID-19 vaccination coverage in Latin America. We aimed to estimate how many deaths, hospitalizations and costs the vaccines had and could have avoided. Methods: We calculated the Number Needed to Vaccinate to prevent one death per year, 1 standard hospitalization, 1 Intensive Care Unit admission given the mean incidence numbers of the past 6 months, and divided the number of persons vaccinated to estimate how many deaths and hospitalizations had been avoided in French Guiana at that time. Results: The crude number needed to vaccinate to prevent one death per year, the crude number needed to vaccinate to prevent one hospitalization per 6 months were computed Based on our observed incidence and ICU admission rate, the crude number needed to vaccinate to prevent one ICU admission per 6 months.After 6 months with an incidence exceeding 400 per million inhabitants, and 148 observed deaths, we estimate that vaccination avoided 46 deaths (IC95%=43.5–48.7). If the number of vaccinated persons had reached the same proportion as mainland France, 141 deaths per year could have been prevented (IC95%=131.9–147.6).With 2085 hospitalization and 370 ICU admissions during the same period, we estimate that the current albeit low vaccination rate avoided 300 hospital (IC95%=280–313) and 77 (IC95%=72–81) ICU admissions. With the same vaccination rates as mainland France, we estimate that 900 hospitalizations and 231 ICU admissions would have been avoided.Similarly, there would have been 139 ICU admission (instead of 370). Conclusions: In sparsely populated French Guiana these numbers are quite substantial and framing the vaccine benefits and wasted opportunities using such concrete numbers may help convincing undecided persons to get vaccinated.

Obtaining a booster dose of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine is required to maintain the protective level of neutralizing antibodies and therefore herd immunity in the community, and the success of booster dose programs depends on public acceptance. The aim of this study was to determine the acceptance of a booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine and its drivers and barriers in Indonesia. A cross-sectional survey was conducted in the provinces of Indonesia between 1 and 15 August 2022. Individuals who completed the primary series of the COVID-19 vaccine were asked about their acceptance of a booster dose. Those who refused the booster dose were questioned about their reasons. A logistic regression was used to determine the determinants associated with rejection of a booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine. A total of 2935 respondents were included in the final analysis. With no information on the efficacy and safety of the COVID-19 vaccine, 95% of respondents agreed to receive a booster dose if it were provided for free by the government. This acceptance was reduced to only 50.3% if the vaccine had a 75% efficacy with a 20% chance of side effects. The adjusted logistic regression analysis indicated that there were eight factors associated with the rejection of the booster dose: age, marital status, religion, occupation, type of the first two vaccines received, knowledge regarding the importance of the booster dose, belief that natural immunity is sufficient to prevent COVID-19 and disbelief in the effectiveness of the booster dose. In conclusion, the hesitancy toward booster doses in Indonesia is influenced by some intrinsic factors such as lack of knowledge on the benefits of the booster dose, worries regarding the unexpected side effects and concerns about the halal status of the provided vaccines and extrinsic determinants such as the effectiveness and safety of the vaccine. Introduction: since vaccines started being used, groups have been opposing them. This refusal has persisted in small communities. In recent decades, with the advent of social networks, this message has spread to the whole world. Thus, the main purpose of this study is to highlight vaccine hesitancy in parents of children under five years of age. Specifically, this study aims to determine the prevalence of vaccine hesitancy and to list its determinants. Methods: we conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study among parents of children under five years of age in the city of Gao from March to August 2021. Based on a survey quota, parents were enrolled using the itinerary method. Surveys were conducted by face-to-face interviews. Results: a total of 384 subjects responded; 9% of parents were hesitant about vaccines. Thus, 49% [31-66] did not think vaccines were safe; 23% [10-40] hesitated because someone else had informed them that vaccines were unsafe and 17% [7-34] hesitated because they had heard or read negative reviews. There was a statistically significant association between vaccine hesitancy by parents, being under 30 years of age, not attending school or having a low level of educational attainment and having less than 3 children. Conclusion: vaccine hesitancy is a reality in the city of Gao. Some factors have been listed and a mixed study should be conducted to understand them. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Vaccine reluctance is both a complex and context-specific issue and is the result of many complicating factors that need to be addressed more systematically. In Europe, several country-based ad-hoc studies have been carried out on COVID-19 vaccines/vaccination and vaccine reluctance but a comprehensive overview covering all 27 European Union (EU27) countries is lacking. Such study can help understand vaccine reluctance in the overall EU as well as examine differences between individual countries. This study relies on data from Flash Eurobarometer 505, covering all 27 European Union member states; the sample size is N = 26 , 641. It takes a fuzzy clustering approach to construct typologies of attitudes towards COVID-19 vaccination, and subsequently develops an "Index of Attitudes" (IA) which accounts for individual positioning of EU citizens. The data analysis is based on grade of membership (GoM) model which is a reliable statistical tool to tackle heterogeneous populations. The output of GoM model unveiled a hierarchical fuzzy 3-partition corresponding to three clearly identified typologies of feelings towards COVID-19 vaccination: Typology 1 entails favourable feelings while moderate-favourable feelings describe the Typology 2. Finally, Tipology 3 encompasses the scepticism towards COVID-19 vaccines. The IA, which quantifies the sentiment of European citizens towards COVID-19 vaccination in a 0–1 scale, reveals that although EU27 citizens overall are not against COVID-19 vaccination (index mean = 0. 44) some, mostly in eastern countries, deviate from this prevailing trend. Distrust in the safety and efficacy of all kinds of vaccines, as well as a generalised distrust in European and national institutions, are associated with the reluctance in relation towards COVID-19 vaccination. However, this reluctance varies across countries. The outcomes of our study not only inform national government and health care agents but also help define communication strategies to reach the most reluctant citizens. The segmentation it provides makes it easier to customise campaigns that raise awareness of the consequences of not being vaccinated, particularly as new SARS-CoV-2 variants emerge. Vaccination campaigns have been key to controlling the pandemic, but vaccine hesitancy is on the rise. This study investigated the general population's attitude to vaccination in Veneto (northeast Italy) in January 2021 as part of a study on the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infection. An ad hoc questionnaire collected 4467 respondents' sociodemographic data and propensity to be vaccinated, and findings were analyzed using logistic multivariable regression. The 48.9% of respondents were male, and the mean age was 46.8 ± 16.0 years. Asked whether they would get vaccinated against COVID-19, 84.3% said yes, 5.0% were uncertain, and 10.7% said no. Vaccine acceptance was higher in males than in females (85.8% vs. 82.8%), in people 70+ years old (92.3%), and among people with more than 14 years of schooling (89.6%). Multivariable analysis with adjOR (95% CI) showed a significantly greater vaccine reluctance in females (0.68 (0.57–0.81)), people 30–49 or 50–69 years old (0.69 (0.54–0.87)), and (0.76 (0.58–0.99)); and those with <9 or 9–13 years of schooling (0.62 (0.46–0.82)), and (0.72 (0.57–0.91)). COVID-19 has put vaccine efficacy under a spotlight. However, the reluctance of people to be vaccinated has postponed the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, opioid vaccines are being developed, which could help prevent opioid addiction, overdoses, or relapse in combination with medication-assisted therapy. Background: In 2019, the World Health Organization declared the reluctance to vaccinate despite the availability of vaccination services as one of the top 10 threats to global health. In early 2021, self-reported reluctance to vaccinate among military personnel might have been considered a significant threat to national security. Having a choice architecture that made COVID-19 vaccination optional rather than required for military personnel could have inadvertently undermined military readiness if vaccination uptake did not reach an acceptable threshold., Objective: The purpose of this observational study was to examine Marines' self-reported reasons for planning to decline the COVID-19 vaccine to understand their barriers to vaccination., Methods: As the vaccination became available to 1 company of Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team (FAST) Marines in early 2021, company command required those planning to decline vaccination to write an essay with up to 5 reasons for their choice. These essays provided the data for this study. Qualitative descriptive analysis with elements from grounded theory was used to thematically categorize FAST Marines' written reasons for planning to decline the COVID-19 vaccine into a codebook describing 8 key behavioral determinants. Interrater agreement among 2 qualitatively trained researchers was very good (κ=0.81)., Results: A troop of 47 Marines provided 235 reasons why they planned to decline the COVID-19 vaccine. The most frequent reasons were difficulty understanding health information (105/235, 45%), low estimates of risk (33/235, 14%), and fear of physical discomfort (29/235, 12%). Resulting interventions directly targeted Marines' self-reported reasons by reducing barriers (eg, normalized getting the vaccine), increasing vaccine benefits (eg, improved access to base gyms and recreational facilities), and increasing nonvaccine friction (eg, required in writing 5 reasons for declining the vaccine)., Conclusions: Understanding the barriers military personnel experience toward COVID-19 vaccination remains critical as vaccine acquisition and availability continue to protect military personnel. Globalization has led to what has happened in a certain part of the world having a significant and rapid impact on other places, causing significant changes in health problems. In the last quarter of the 18th century, the history of vaccination began, becoming an effective tool to prevent and control communicable diseases. This paper proposes an observational research with a cross-sectional design to study the importance of health education and vaccination in building inclusive societies. With a sample of 1000 participants from 76 countries, vaccine awareness and regulation were analyzed, considering the following variables: gender, age, sector, Human Development Index (HDI), and continent. The instrument used was a questionnaire (VACUNASEDUCA) developed for this research and timely validated. As a result, it is highlighted that the profiles of women, people under 30 years of age, education sector, high Human Development Index, and European continent are those that most value the importance of raising awareness in society and the regulation of actions for vaccination compliance. The consequences of “vaccine reluctance” are of concern in every country on the planet. Therefore, it is concluded that effective and evidence-based communication is key to allaying fears and promoting acceptance of vaccination around the world, building inclusive societies in which all citizens enjoy the health benefits.

Information was gathered on the participants’ perspectives towards the severity and susceptibility of the COVID-19 infection, reasons for their hesitancy to receive the vaccine, perceived benefits, and reasons for action. Just under a quarter (19.6%) of respondents had previously tested positive for COVID-19. A small minority of the participants had already received the vaccine (2.1%), while 20.3% had registered in the Sehaty app (application) to receive the vaccine. Just under half of them (48%) will take the vaccine when mass vaccination is achieved and approximately the same number (46.7%) will only take it if it is made mandatory. Vaccine reluctance is highly prevalent among the general public in Saudi Arabia during the COVID-19 pandemic. While many are aware of a high likelihood of getting the infection, the efficacy and safety of the COVID-19 vaccine were reported as barriers to vaccination.
