Smart Connected Product(SCP) and Smart Environment(SE), typical product-service integrated system under intelligent manufacturing context, have attracted significant attentions from both researchers and practitioners owning to its effectiveness in enabling user interaction and improving user satisfaction. In this paper, we conduct a systematical literature review to summarize the current user-oriented SCP or SE researches. A totally 102 journal articles are fully analyzed to illustrate the current research concentration and highlight future research directions. Different from existing review articles that focus on specific SCP or SE, our research incorporates diverse SCPs or SEs and proposes an objective-based taxonomy, which distinguishes three objective dimensions, that is, integrated optimization within system, vertically iterative optimization of the system and the horizontally collaborative optimization between systems. Besides, we distill five user-oriented indictors, that is, user need identification, user interaction optimization, serve special group, user security protection as well as energy consumption improvement and combine them with three research objectives to unveil the mainstream research concentration. Awareness of users' perceptions and interpretations of the information labels of the user interface of digital library of the NLAI. The present study was an applied research with a mixed method. Data were collected through a researcher-made questionnaire, interview, and observation. Through a exploratory method, participants were asked to spend considerable time and in-depth to examine the categories, elements, and labels used in the digital library website and to determine their understanding of the website labels in the online questionnaire in the form of a Likert scale. Then, the semi-structured interview technique was used to study users' perceptions and interpretations of the labels assigned to the elements on the website. The study population included users of the digital library of the NLAI, which was selected in two groups of novice users (clients) and advanced users (librarians) of 20 people (10 novice users and 10 advanced users). In order to validate the research results, Methodological angulation was used to increase the reliability of the research data. During this method, the researcher used several methods to collect data (using interviews with observation, exploratory study, and questionnaire), as well as all research strategies and steps with the necessary documentation at the time of data collection were recorded. Finally, after collecting the data, the researcher used the Member checking method. During this quality control process, the researcher asked the 7 participants to read the notes and the results of the data and express their opinion on the accuracy of the findings. Cronbach's alpha test (0.85) was used to ensure the reliability of the data collection tool and the possible problems of the questionnaire. SPSS software was used to analyze the research data. Content analysis and Excel software were used to analyze the interview data. The results showed that the final average of comprehensibility of labels and terms used in the website is over 50% and indicates a good understanding of the terms and labels used in the website to represent information categories, but some labels need to be changed and updated. Some terms are not very understandable from the users' point of view and need to be revised, such as: "review", "quick look", "typical classification", "source registration", "legal considerations", "main site", "texts", "Periodical" and "Collection". The friendliness and user-friendliness of the words on the website, and the ban on the use of specialized, complex, and ambiguous words were among the demands of the users. New terms and labels were suggested by users. The use of specialized library terminology on the website, intangible and abstract words and lack of sufficient explanations about labels, lack of a comprehensive guide, going into more detail, complications on the website, and inconsistency in the use of words for similar concepts are some of the problems that cause the user does not have a good browsing experience.

The purpose of this study is to monitor the views of users about the services of the National Library of Iran and use them in service planning. The method of this research is qualitative and focus group and brainstorming and group decision making were used to collect data. Focus groups continued until data saturation with the participation of 29 members (in two groups of 11 and 18). Maxqda software was used for data analysis.The results showed that the service factors of the Information department of the National Library of Iran from the perspective of users fall into 4 themes. Qualitative analysis of the data collected from users led to the extraction of 546 initial codes that reported service factors. Multiple revisions and code integration based on similarity over several stages resulted in 14 sub-themes. The findings of this study indicated some problems in the service desks of the National Library from the perspective of users and 4 main themes of librarians, clients, services and service desks were studied separately in its sub-themes. Based on the suggestions of the participants of this research and due to the lived experience of the authors in the service desks, suggestions were presented separately for the topics discussed.

Utilization of moving aerial base stations (ABSs) has attracted a lot of attention in recent years. Accordingly, path planning to optimize a given utility function, and in particular, mechanical energy, has been the subject of many investigations. Most of the works in this area are user-oriented, i.e., the path planning is implemented for a given user location. In this letter, we propose a non user-oriented path planning scheme, based on a family of spiral shaped curves, that is efficient in terms of energy and can provide a fairly uniform coverage for all users within a cell. We show that the proposed spiral curves will result in considerable amount of saving in mechanical power consumption compared to the radial paths already proposed in the literature. The SR4RS software includes tools to apply super-resolution methods on remote sensing images. It employs TensorFlow on the deep learning side, and relies on GDAL and the Orfeo ToolBox to deal with geospatial data. Although web-scale discovery services have been implemented increasingly worldwide, there is a need for the exploration of search effectiveness from users' perspectives. In this sense, this study examined web-scale discovery services in the view of users' relevance judgment comparing to individual databases in the fields of Education and Library and Information Science. Using four search topics for the EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS), ERIC, ERC, LISA, and LISTA, their search effectiveness were measured in terms of modified precision, recall, and reciprocal rank based on the relevance judgments of four participants. Comparison of the measurements showed that the web-scale discovery service was less effective than individual databases. In particular, EDS's effectiveness was lower than that of ERIC and ERC in terms of modified precision and recall. The modified reciprocal rank of EDS was lower than those of most individual databases in the fields of Education and LIS. Moreover, the relationship between the rankings from EDS and those from four participants was weak, as indicated by Spearman rank-order correlation coefficients (0.141 in Education and 0.170 in LIS). In fact, the effectiveness in the fields of LIS and Education of EDS was lower than those individual databases to a degree dependent on the field. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The public, industry, emergency managers and other decision makers can use weather, climate and impact forecasts more effectively in their decision making when the quality of forecasts is measured in terms that are meaningful and comprehensible to them. To encourage the development of user-oriented verification approaches and support the major projects of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) World Weather Research Program, a challenge was issued to develop and demonstrate new user-oriented forecast verification metrics. Several new forecast verification metrics were proposed to meet the needs of very different user-communities including public safety and amenity, shipping, aviation, defence, agriculture, and water resources. A few general purpose metrics were also proposed. The winner of the inaugural verification challenge proposed a new metric called the Spatial Probability Score for assessing forecasts for the location of a relevant boundary or contour, for example, sea ice edge or extent of flood inundation. We hope and expect that many of the user-oriented forecast verification metrics submitted to the inaugural verification challenge will be taken up by the broader community.

The explosive advancements in mobile Internet and Internet of Things challenge the network capacity and architecture. The ossification of wireless networks hinders the further evolution toward the fifth generation of mobile communication systems. Ultra-dense small cell networks are considered as a feasible way to meet high-capacity demands. Meanwhile, ultra-dense small cell network virtualization also exploits an insightful perspective for the evolution because of its superiority, such as diversity, flexibility, low cost, and scalability. In this paper, we specify the necessity of resource management in virtualized ultra-dense small cell networks through a mapping and management architecture and consider the problem of user-oriented virtual resource management. Then, we model the virtual resource management problem as a hierarchical game and obtain the closed-form solutions for spectrum, power, and price, respectively. Furthermore, we propose a customer-first (CF) algorithm that characterizes the user-oriented service of virtualization, and analyze its convergence. Simulation results present the effectiveness of the proposed CF algorithm.

Due to the ever-growing demands of larger capacity of flash storage devices, various new manufacturing techniques have been proposed to provide high-density and large-capacity NAND flash devices. Among these new techniques, 3-D NAND flash is regarded as one of the most promising candidates for the next-generation flash storage devices. 3-D NAND flash brings high bit density and significant cost saving via stacking memory cells vertically. However, the read/write and erase units of 3-D NAND flash also grow larger than those of traditional planner flash devices. This growing trend of read/write and erase units for 3-D NAND flash imposes significant management difficulties, such as the grown size of mapping information, decreased garbage collection efficiency, and worsened write amplification issue. To alleviate these negative impacts of the growing read/write and erase units, this paper proposes a multiregional space management design to achieve subpage-level management while adaptively adjusting mapping granularity by considering the user behaviors. The monitoring of Global Aquatic Land Cover (GALC) plays an essential role in protecting and restoring water-related ecosystems. Although many GALC datasets have been created before, a uniform and comprehensive GALC dataset is lacking to meet multiple user needs. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of using existing global datasets to develop a comprehensive and user-oriented GALC database and identify the gaps of current datasets in GALC mapping. Eight global datasets were reframed to construct a three-level (i.e., from general to detailed) prototype database for 2015, conforming with the United Nations Land Cover Classification System (LCCS)-based GALC characterization framework. An independent validation was done, and the overall results show some limitations of current datasets in comprehensive GALC mapping. The Level-1 map had considerable commission errors in delineating the general GALC distribution. The Level-2 maps were good at characterizing permanently flooded areas and natural aquatic types, while accuracies were poor in the mapping of temporarily flooded and waterlogged areas as well as artificial aquatic types; vegetated aquatic areas were also underestimated. The Level-3 maps were not sufficient in characterizing the detailed life form types (e.g., trees, shrubs) for aquatic land cover. However, the prototype GALC database is flexible to derive user-specific maps and has important values to aquatic ecosystem management. With the evolving earth observation opportunities, limitations in the current GALC characterization can be addressed in the future.

A transmit antenna selection (TxAS) aided multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) system is proposed for operating in the MIMO downlink channel environments, which shows significant improvement in terms of higher data rate when compared to the conventional MU-MIMO systems operating without adopting TxAS, while maintaining low hardware costs. We opt for employing a simple yet efficient zero-forcing beamforming (ZFBF) linear precoding scheme at the transmitter in order to reduce the decoding complexity when considering users’ side. Moreover, considering that users within the same cell may require various qualities of service (QoS), we further propose a novel user-oriented smart TxAS (UOSTxAS) scheme, of which the main idea is to carry out AS based on the QoS requirements of different users. At last, we implement the proposed UOSTxAS scheme in the software defined radio (SDR) MIMO communication hardware platform, which is the first prototype hardware system that runs the UOSTxAS MU-MIMO scheme. Our results show that, by employing TxAS, the proposed UOSTxAS scheme is capable of offering higher data rates for priority users, while reasonably ensuring the performance of the common users requiring lower rates both in simulation and in the implemented SDR MIMO communication platform.

Role mining is to define a role set to implement the role-based access control (RBAC) system and regarded as one of the most important and costliest implementation phases. While various role mining models have been proposed, we find that user experience/perception - one ultimate goal for any information system - is surprisingly ignored by the existing works. One advantage of RBAC is to support multiple role assignments and allow a user to activate the necessary role to perform the tasks at each session. However, frequent role activating and deactivating can be a tendinous thing from the user perspective. A user-friendly RBAC system is expected to assign few roles to every user. So in this paper we propose to incorporate to the role mining process a user-role assignment constraint that mandates the maximum number of roles each user can have. Under this rationale, we formulate user-oriented role mining as the user role mining problem, where all users have the same maximal role assignments, the personalized role mining problem, where users can have different maximal role assignments, and the approximate versions of the two problems, which tolerate a certain amount of deviation from the complete reconstruction. The extra constraint on the maximal role assignments poses a great challenge to role mining, which in general is already a hard problem. We examine some typical existing role mining methods to see their applicability to our problems. In light of their insufficiency, we present a new algorithm, which is based on a novel dynamic candidate role generation strategy, tailored to our problems. For the purpose of evaluating the image quality of ZY-3 (Ziyuan-3) satellite imagery and from the perspective of data users in various professions, this paper proposed a user-oriented quality assessment to assess the panchromatic and multispectral images of ZY-3, which included the assessment of its image statistical characteristics, image visual effect, and interpretability. In order to better understand the quality level of the ZY-3 image product and the scope of its applications, a comparison of image quality factors was conducted between ZY-3 image and SPOT-5 image due to the close similarity between their functionalities. As far as the ZY-3 image was concerned, features of its gray-scale statistics showed the advantage in its wider data range, higher standard deviation, and a better histogram presenting in image. The analysis of texture from the two images also revealed better performance of the ZY-3 image than that of SPOT-5 with respect to homogeneity (HOM), contrast (CON), entropy (ENT), and angular second moment (ASM). Moreover, the result of visual effect assessment also confirmed the good performance of ZY-3 data. An evaluation of the interpretability was conducted by using the National Imagery Interpretability Rating Scale (NIIRS). According to the relationship between NIIRS and mapping scale, the suitable mapping scales of the images from both ZY-3 and SPOT-5 were estimated from the viewpoint of image quality. As our survey shows, ZY-3 image products are marked by good gray scale characteristics and texture effect. To enhance the efficiency of soil information in the field survey, we developed the mobile application called “e-SoilMap” for creating a new user-oriented soil map. This application has the following three unique functions: annotatable map, data sharing over the cloud and offline support for allowing the user to create a high-value-added soil map in their Internet space. Both iOS and Android versions of the mobile application mainly consist of three key components: (1) a map manager, (2) a soil manager and (3) a user manager. The map manager is responsible for displaying background maps to the user. The soil manager displays a soil map and related soil information, which are provided by the National Institute for Agro-Environmental Sciences (NIAES), on the background maps. And the user manager is responsible for creating an annotatable map and sharing the user data in the cloud. The “e-SoilMap” provides soil information to users using location-based spatial query processing and allows the creation of annotatable pins on the soil map. The main target of this application was designed to be a wide variety of technical fields such as agronomic assessment, engineering applications, hydrology and hydrogeologic assessments, environmental assessment and policy decisions. Abstract: There is much uncertainty and confusion as to the real differences between prescrip-tive and descriptive dictionaries. In general, the majority of existing accounts can be summarised as follows: Descriptive relates to the empirical basis; accordance between the empirical data and the dictionary is required. Prescriptive relates to the genuine purpose of the dictionary; the dictionary is meant to help with problems concerning text production and will thus affect usage. This asym-metrical understanding would imply prescriptive and descriptive in practice being false contrasts. Abstract: In this research, we develop user-oriented RT service proposal system in Kukanchi. Kukanchi is interactive Human-Space Design and Intelligence. By carrying out data mining of user information, service history, sensor data, and object data, this system finds out those relationships and gives weight to each of them. Abstract: Many studies have attempted to measure human response in music halls in order to determine acoustic quality. However, all these works have used parameters defined by experts. This approach may be an important drawback since users who have to evaluate such concepts may not understand or misunderstand parameters which do not correspond to their own conceptual structure. This paper attempts to establish a methodology to define valid evaluation scales for different collectives and determine evaluation criteria related to the overall assessment of music hall acoustics. It analyses music hall acoustics from the user''s perspective and investigates the differences of perception between experts and non-experts through Semantic Differential within the frame of Kansei Engineering. The research was carried out through a field study in 17 auditoria of the Valencia Region (Spain). Perceptions regarding the acoustic quality of these venues were studied in a group of non-experts (236) and other of experts (74). Differences of perception between both collectives were identified and analysed. The main factors characterising the subjective preference of each group were determined (5 factors for non-experts and 6 for experts) and their influence on the global acoustic assessment was quantified. Furthermore, predicting perceptual models were built and the utility of the methodology was tested through the semantic profiles of two venues not included in the above analysis. This methodology was useful for studying music hall acoustics from the viewpoints of experts and non-experts and it may also enable optimization of design features of music halls. Recent advances in ad hoc and sensor wireless networks have brought us new designs and deployment orientations. Even more, when the ad hoc (or sensor) wireless network integrate users and services. On one hand, the Quality of Service for each user must be guaranteed. On the other hand, the user behavior and the services offered for the users could affect to the network performance. A spontaneous ad hoc (or sensor) network enables a group of users to communicate and work together collaboratively very close to each other, sharing services, during a period of time. They seek to imitate human relationships in order to work together in groups, running on an existing technology. Devices used for spontaneous ad hoc (or sensor) wireless networks have limited resources, few computing capacity and low energy consumption. User-oriented and service-oriented spontaneous ad hoc and sensor wireless networks can be used to solve a problem, to carry out a specific task, or just to share services and resources between users, with no dependence on a central server. Having provided an overview of the ideas of developing user-oriented interactive forecast system (UIFS) emerging in recent years, the authors proposed an idealized framework of the new-generation meteorological system, which includes the initial user-end module for configuring the forecast target, the physical predictive and downscaling components, and an incessant assessing module in association with decision-making at the user-end. A case study was carried out with a focus on applying the TIGGE (THORPEX Interactive Grand Global Ensemble; THORPEX stands for The Observing System Research and Predictability Experiment) precipitation forecasts for the hydrological users in Linyi, a region richest in rivers and reservoirs in eastern China. The preliminary results exhibited great potential of improvement in applications of weather forecasts by combining the user-end information. Although the TIGGE results provided by existing national/ international operating models were independent from the user-end, the case study enlightened ways of establishing an iteratively self-improving UIFS involving user-orientation throughout the forecast process. The purpose of improving weather forecast is to enhance the accuracy in weather prediction. An ideal forecasting system would incorporate user-end information. In recent years, the meteorological community has begun to realize that while general improvements to the physical characteristics of weather forecasting systems are becoming asymptotically limited, the improvement from the user end still has potential. The weather forecasting system should include user interaction because user needs may change with different weather. A study was conducted on the conceptual forecasting system that included a dynamic, user-oriented interactive component. This research took advantage of the recently implemented TIGGE (THORPEX interactive grand global ensemble) project in China, a case study that was conducted to test the new forecasting system with reservoir managers in Linyi City, Shandong Province, a region rich in rivers and reservoirs in eastern China. A self-improving forecast system was developed involving user feedback throughout a flood season, changing thresholds for flood-inducing rainfall that were responsive to previous weather and hydrological conditions, and dynamic user-oriented assessments of the skill and uncertainty inherent in weather prediction. Public signs are graphical images for the provision of warnings, directions, regulations and guidance in all locations and all sectors where the public has access. One of the major deficiencies of the current practice of public design is that it is policymaker- and designer-oriented. To create more user-friendly graphical signs, the stereotype production method has been introduced to involve users as much as possible in phases of the conceptual design process. With the use of the stereotype production method, prospective users recommend pictorials for sign referents while designers recognise and integrate the common images users have for the signs in design. Therefore, the weights of the designs have been shifted from professional- to user-oriented, and both designers and users could play an active role in the sign design process. Comprehensive research on the effectiveness of the new practice for sign development, the stereotype production method, had never been reported. Taking public sign development in Hong Kong as a case study, this paper aims to identify and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the stereotype production method for sign development from the perspective of design participants, i.e., users and designers during the design process. Abstract: A new approach is suggested for designing and developing an intrusion detection application where the domain expertise is used for generating it more easily. This approach uses ontologies as a way of grasping the knowledge of a domain, expressing the intrusion detection system much more in terms of the end users domain, generating the intrusion detection more easily and performing intelligent reasoning. Furthermore, ontologies are also used as a conceptual modeling tool allowing a non-expert person to model his/her intrusion detection application only using the concepts of intrusion detection more intuitively and more user-oriented towards his/her domain expertise. Managing public infrastructure is becoming more complex due to aging assets, increasing demand, and budget limitations. Besides these challenges, best practices recommend putting stakeholders (specifically end-users) in the center of asset management planning for public assets incorporating provided services in the decision-making process to achieve sustainable cities goals. This study improves the classical asset-based approach and proposed a user-oriented platform to maintain urban railway systems. The model is applied to the Toronto regional railway network (Go Transit) in Canada and the Greater Montreal regional railway network (Exo). Results indicate that a proactive approach significantly can save money and bring higher value and performance for the agency. The user-oriented platform was able to push budget allocation toward enhancing provided and potential services for users.
