This paper investigates the factors that influence the actual use of password managers. In this paper, we have integrated some factors from the Technology Acceptance Model (perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and attitude) with other factors from the literature review (user readiness, awareness, and motivation) to investigate the influence of these factors on the use of password managers. The authors used an online questionnaire to collect data. The questionnaire was distributed by using two social media platforms (Twitter and WhatsApp). There were 171 participants from 6 countries who completed the questionnaire. Structural equation modelling was employed by using SmartPLS-3 software to analyse the data. Findings indicate that perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and user readiness have a positive impact and are substantially associated with attitude, thus influencing the actual use of password managers. Likewise, perceived usefulness, user readiness, and awareness have a positive impact and are significantly associated with motivation of users to use it, which also influences the actual use of password managers.

Digital extension is widely embraced in African agricultural development, promising unprecedented outcomes and impact. Especially phone-based services attract attention as tools for effective and efficient agricultural extension. To date, assessments of digital extension services are generally ex-post in nature, thus consideration of users and broader systems occurs once an intervention is broadly identified. However, early understanding of user needs, readiness, and relevant context is a prerequisite for successful adoption and sustainable use of digital extension services. We conducted an ex-ante assessment of user readiness (UR) for phone-based services. We developed an ex-ante framework to assess UR, considering capabilities, opportunities, and motivations of targeted users. The case study of Rwandan banana farmers served to verify the UR framework, using survey data from 690 smallholder farmers. Findings demonstrate limited capacity to access and use phone-based extension services, especially those requiring a smartphone, and a mismatch between expected UR and actual UR, current capabilities and opportunities. Findings provide entry points for designing suitable digital extension projects and interventions, suggesting a need for capacity building. The UR-framework provided understanding about current limitations in farmer readiness for digital extension. This ex-ante approach to explore UR before designing digital interventions for African farmers is recommended. It points at the importance of embedding digital technologies into existing practices and creating blends of 'digital' and 'analogue' or 'high-tech' and 'low-tech'. The UR-framework provides a structured approach to developing pre-intervention insights about users and use-context, supporting informed strategizing and decision-making about digital extension. It is a relevant addition to existing readiness frameworks, participatory design methods, and ex-post intervention performance assessments, as part of a balanced readiness level assessment. This is the first ex-ante assessment of UR for digital extension services in an African context, and the first attempt to analyse Rwandan farmers' readiness for digital extension services. Abstract The goal in this commentary is to share the development of the NASA Applied Science pre‐launch protocol called the Early Adopter Program (EAP) that is designed to build user‐readiness of planned satellite Earth observing missions proactively and before the launch. Here we focus in particular on the Surface Water and Ocean Topography satellite mission EAP as an illustration of benefits of such a program of proactive and sustained user community engagement. Such a commentary will be of value to other satellite Earth observation missions that are currently in service, scheduled for launch or prioritized for development in the near future.

Mobile apps have been transforming how individuals and organizations share information and conduct business. This research studies the relationships among user readiness factors, privacy concerns, and user acceptance of mobile app stores. A survey was conducted among college smart phone users. Results indicate that the privacy concerns construct has a direct negative effect on purchase intention of mobile apps in the app store. In addition, user readiness has a direct positive effect on attitudes to the app store, and a net positive effect on purchase intention of apps in the app store. Purpose: This study aims to analyze the readiness factors and dimensions affecting the use of m-health applications in Indonesia from the users' perspective. In addition, this study could be used as reference for the m-health developers to improve their existing applications. Method: This research used a quantitative approach. A total of 624 respondents who have utilized m-health filled out the online questionnaire. The data were collected, analyzed, and processed by covariance-based structural equation modelling methods using AMOS 21.0 tools. Results: The most influential dimensions in m -health readiness are technological readiness (i.e., ease of use and affordability) and motivational readiness (i.e., trust, attitude, and perceived usefulness). Conclusions: Understanding the users’ perspective on the readiness factors can help m-health service providers to focus more on improving services in accordance with the readiness factors of users to meet user needs and increase user readiness in m-health applications.

As one of the most developed cities in terms of information technologies and Internet penetration, Hong Kong possesses a high technological potential for the growth and bloom of open educational resources (OER). Yet, previous studies have shown that the use of OER in the territory has been rather limited and that potential users' reluctance and ambivalence towards it have constrained its development. This paper presents a study being carried out as the initial phase of a longitudinal project to gauge user readiness for the use and contribution of OER in the tertiary education sector of Hong Kong at intervals over a period of five years. It reviews the technological infrastructure, Government support and development of resources in the city. It then reports the results of a preliminary survey, highlighting that most university student respondents, despite their high computer literacy, have a low level of awareness and limited experience of OER, and have been exposed to only a few popular types of resources. The observations call for further institutional and instructional support to enhance university students' awareness of available resources and the benefits of their use. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nearly every information system development (ISD) triggers a wide variety of feelings from all stakeholders who are impacted in various ways because, more than ever, ISD is leveraged as a means of organizational change. Motivated by the stubborn progress on the success rate of ISD, this research, in contrast to the previous research, hypothesizes that user readiness underpins all other kinds of readiness for ISD. In light of this hypothesis, our research team has interviewed representatives of 50 ISD projects in order to identify the efficacy of user readiness in the success rate of ISD and the responsiveness of user readiness to project-specific efforts. Our interview findings indicate that user readiness does correlate to the success of ISD, although such correspondence varies in degree according to the complexity of ISD. In addition, our findings show that the motivational aspect of user readiness responds to project-specific efforts more slowly than the cognitive aspect of it, and that user readiness is in the midst of other kinds of readiness such as process readiness, data readiness, organizational and cultural readiness, so it is pivotal to the success of ISD.
