This Special Report is a condensed version of previous technical reports describing the shoreline change model GenCade. It is meant to provide new and prospective users of GenCade a starting point to learn the model. While no new topics are presented, important information which would otherwise be distributed among several publications is conveniently grouped in one shore document. The first part of the report describes the basic features of the model and its suitability to a range of applications to help prospective users decide if GenCade is the right tool for a specific project. The second part of the report is a quick start guide with step-by-step instruction on how to build a GenCade project. Each topic presented in this publication is accompanied by a list of references that provide more in depth information., The original document contains color images. In this Small Business Innovation Research Phase II project, AIphaTRAC's goal was to revolutionize crisis decision-making by developing a radically innovative approach to training. The AlphaACT(registered tradename) decision support system is a platform technology used as the basis for web-based training applications. The training applications use varying levels of immersion to provide the engagement necessary for effective training on decision-making skills. Based on the recognition-primed decision model, AlphaACT applications employ a pattern recognition engine to help the decision maker quickly choose a case on which to base an appropriate course of action. In this Phase II project, AIphaTRAC: 1) Built core components and integrated them into the AlphaACT platform; 2) Developed three discipline-specific applications for asymmetric combat, HAZMAT emergency response, and firefighting response; and 3) Developed two applications to gather and archive event experiences for populating the application knowledge bases and developing training scenarios. All of these applications have been transitioned and fielded or commercialized, with the exception of the asymmetric combat application. The intelligence community today is combating information overload. Analysts lack tools to extract relevant information from large masses of information. Graph-based algorithms can assist analysts to sift through vast amounts of information in order to find the subset relevant to a common intelligence picture. Graph-based tools can support social network analysis by facilitating the reasoning over relationships between actors and groups of actors. In order to address the challenge of information overload, researchers at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory developed the Graph Matching Toolkit (GMT). GMT is a visual interface for performing graph matching and serves as a front end to a variety of graph matching algorithms such as the Truncated Search Tree (TruST) algorithm. This report demonstrates the GMT interface and TruST algorithm in the context of performing a series of queries on the Ali Baba Data Set. Descriptions of key features and capabilities, as well as, step-by-step instructions for GMT use are provided. An extended use case suggests GMT is an effective tool for facilitating an analyst's search and social network analysis of a complex dataset to rapidly identify high-value targets (appendix A). This is the first report to describe the new shoreline change and sand transport model, GenCade. GenCade is based on the synthesis of GENESIS (Hanson and Kraus 1989), a project-scale, engineering design-level model, and Cascade (Larson et al. 2003), a regional-scale, planning-level model. This report describes GenCade model theory, model validation and benchmark cases. The first model validation was performed with data from an experiment conducted in the CHL Large-Scale Sediment Transport Facility while the second focuses on the Jucar River in Spain. A series of simple idealized cases was developed to demonstrate GenCade model capabilities and verify results against the established legacy model, GENESIS. Additionally, this report includes a user s guide that describes the process of setting up and running GenCade. This section should include enough detail for a user with no previous GenCade experience to run a simple GenCade case. The report also describes a GenCade model application on the south shore of Long Island, New York. The application of the Volterra series method for the analysis of circuits with multiple nonlinear elements and multiple multi-frequency input sources is described. Using multi-dimensional transform theory, an approach for deriving the Volterra transfer functions is given. The computation of the sinusoidal steady-state response from these transfer functions is presented. Finally, algorithms for adapting the Volterra series method for computer-aided steady-state analysis of nonlinear circuits are described. Program R2D2, A Fortran program for finite difference solution of the unsteady equations of motion of an inviscid, chemically reacting and/or vibrationally excited mixture of gases in a two-dimensional (planar or axisymmetric) duct, is described. The formulation and method of analysis has been outlined in Volume I of this report. The present volume describes the input, output, and operational procedures of the program. A summary flow chart of the main program is also presented, and the functions of all subroutines are outlined. Descriptions of computer programming requirements to support the Department of the Army's Installation Restoration Program. The assumptions used in this study were: 1) Record formats (tier 2) as specified in IR Data Management User's Guide will be used as a input files until a Data Base Management System is established; 2) Output formats will be equally adaptable to the Univac 1108/CalComp combination and the Tektronix 4051 screen and 4662 plotter; 3) If a requirement of one installation can be of use to another installation, then the requirement will be generalized; and 4) Programs already available on the Univac 1108 computer at the central site will be preferred to those available elsewhere. Recognitional capacity is needed in order to perform tasks: a recognition of when procedures apply. Further, recognitional capacity cannot be replaced by higher-level procedures. This creates an insurmountable barrier for guidebooks that attempt to provide step-by-step procedural accounts of task performance. User guides will be most successful when they attempt to show novices how to perform procedural tasks. However, step-by-step user guides will be least successful when applied to tasks involving recognitional capacity, with the goal of developing high levels of proficiency. The information gathered will be voluminous and difficult to present, but will also be criticized as insufficient. It is suggested that the way to overcome the barrier presented by recognitional capacity is by approaching it directly, perhaps as a type of analogical inference, rather than by trying to decompose it into more procedures. Computer simulation of electron beams interacting with electromagnetic pulses generated in internally switched cavities is presented. The formulation and properties of the algorithms for the electromagnetic field propagation and particle motion are given. Results are shown for coaxial geometry, first showing the electromagnetic pulse propagation properties in the absence of a beam and then the interaction with a beam. The calculated accelerated beam has a risetime of a fraction of a nanosecond and the quality of the accelerated beam depends critically on the synchronization of the beam with the electromagnetic pulse. The limitations of the present version of the computer code and the directions for future work are discussed. A users guide for the code is provided as an appendix. (Author)

Assistance is provided to Human Factors (HF) engineers in planning, scheduling, and performing HFE T/E in accordance with the requirements of MIL-H-46855. All appropriate aspects of the total HFE T/E process are indicated with emphasis being given to 33 HFE T/E techniques which may be used. Details of technique selection and use are included along with technique samples where appropriate. The emphasis of this guide (as compared to the Navy manager's guide--AD-A045 098) is placed on the HFE evaluator's task of performing the most cost effective total T/E effort. Both formal and technical T/E program requirements are indicated. Basic T/E considerations such as data inputs, level of detail, timing, and applications are detailed. Types of HFE T/E are indicated and a system for evaluating and categorizing techniques is presented. The techniques included are both automatic and manual; these are further divided into groups of direct, indirect, automatic recording, physiological, and simulation. A fold-out chart, which integrates much of the guide content into an HFE evaluator's decision tree, is provided and may be used as a checklist to assist him in his tasks.

The test and evaluation portions of MIL-H-46855 are elaborated upon in two guides, one for Navy managers and one for human factors engineering (HFE) user/evaluators (AD's A045 097 and A045 098). Several test and evaluation techniques are presented along with their capabilities and limitations. Recommendations are made for three modified HFE test and evaluation Data Item Descriptions and a preliminary draft of Navy T/E policy and procedure instructional documentation is also included.

PAFEC75 is the latest development in the PAFEC suite which carries out stress or thermal analysis on any structure by means of finite element methods. A guide to the method of use on the 1904S at A.U.W.E. is given. It is intended that later a dedicated minicomputer will become available. (Author)
