Objectives: The aim of this study is to determine the incidence and risk factors associated with COVID‐19 hospitalization among unvaccinated children. Methods: Children aged 0– < 18 years, members of Kaiser Permanente Northern California (KPNC), were followed from March 1, 2020, until the earliest occurrence of: chart‐confirmed COVID‐19 hospitalization, disenrollment from KPNC, age 18 years, receipt of COVID‐19 vaccine, death, or study end (December 31, 2022). We calculated the incidence rate of hospitalization by SARS‐CoV‐2 variant period and by age group. We determined risk factors for hospitalization using Poisson regression. We also conducted descriptive analyses of hospitalized cases. Results: Among 1,107,799 children, 423 were hospitalized for COVID‐19 during follow‐up. The incidence of hospitalization increased with each new SARS‐CoV‐2 variant and was highest among children aged < 6 months. Among the < 6‐month‐olds, the incidence rate per 100,000 person‐months was 7 during predelta, 13.3 during delta, and 22.4 during omicron. Black (RR = 2.05, 95% CI: 1.33–3.16) and Hispanic children (RR = 1.82, 95% CI: 1.34–2.46) and children with any comorbidities were at high risk of hospitalization (RR = 3.81, 95% CI: 2.94–4.95). Overall, 20.3% of hospitalized children were admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU), but ICU admission was 36.1% among 12– < 18‐year‐olds. The majority of ICU admits (91.8%) had no comorbidities. Conclusion: Children too young to be vaccinated had the highest incidence of COVID‐19 hospitalization, while adolescents had the highest proportion of ICU admissions. Influenza can lead to or coexist with severe bacterial pneumonia, with the potential to permanently damage lung tissue, refractory to conservative treatment in the post-COVID-19 period. It can lead to serious complications; therefore, annual vaccinations are recommended. This case series with a literature review pertains to two young female patients with an insignificant past medical history, who required emergency lobectomy due to bacterial complications after influenza infection. Leptospirosis vaccine for dogs in the United States is considered a lifestyle or non-core vaccine, making individual veterinary practitioners responsible for determining if vaccination is necessary for their patients. Veterinary professionals often base their vaccination decisions on local rates of clinical cases. However, even subclinical leptospirosis infections have zoonotic potential. The microscopic agglutination test (MAT) is effective for screening unvaccinated animals, but previous vaccination can lead to inconsistent results and variable MAT titers over time. This prospective research survey evaluated if local experience was sufficient to justify selective vaccination for leptospirosis. MAT analyses were performed on sera collected from well-cared-for, unvaccinated dogs residing in five different geographies across the United States: South-Central (East Texas), New England, the Mid-Atlantic (North Carolina and Virginia), Midwest (Wisconsin/northern Illinois), and Southwest (southern California). Thirty-eight clinics participated, submitting a total of 1345 qualified samples from unvaccinated dogs over 1 year of age. 11.6% of these unvaccinated dogs had MAT titers for one or more serogroups of Leptospira. While seropositivity does not necessarily indicate that disease will result or that a specific serovar is involved, these MAT-positive cases do indicate that the potential for exposure exists and clinical signs or a carrier-state could result from infection. Abstract Introduction COVID-19 disease resulted in over six million deaths worldwide. Although vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 demonstrated efficacy, breakthrough infections became increasingly common. There is still a lack of data regarding the severity and outcomes of COVID-19 among vaccinated compared to unvaccinated individuals. Conclusions: Patients who were unvaccinated or partially vaccinated had more in-hospital complications, severe disease, and death as compared to fully vaccinated patients. Abstract Background Vaccination helped in reducing mortality and disease severity due to COVID-19. Some patients can develop breakthrough infections. The effect of vaccination in critically ill patients admitted with breakthrough infections is not well studied. We designed a study to estimate the effect of vaccination on ICU mortality in critically ill COVID-19 patients by using propensity score matching. Methods We included patients from 15th June 2020 to 31st December 2021. Inclusion criteria were unvaccinated and vaccinated COVID-19 patients requiring intensive care unit (ICU) admission. The institutional ethics committee approval was obtained (institutional ethics committee, IEC 08/2023, Clinical trial registry, India CTRI/2023/01/049142). The primary outcome was ICU mortality. The secondary outcomes were the length of ICU stay and duration of mechanical ventilation. We used multivariable logistic regression (MLR) and propensity score matching (PSM) for the statistical analysis. Results Total of 667 patients (79.31%) were unvaccinated and 174 (20.68%) vaccinated. The mean age was 57.11 [standard deviation (SD) 15.13], and 70.27% were males. The ICU mortality was 56.60% [95% confidence interval (CI) 53.24–60%]. The results of MLR and PSM method showed that vaccinated patients were less likely to be associated with mortality [adjusted odds ratio (AOR), 95% CI using logistic regression: 0.52 (0.29, 0.94), and by propensity score matching: 0.83 (0.77, 0.91)]. Conclusion The findings of this study support COVID-19 vaccination as an effective method for reducing case fatality not only in the general population but also in critically ill patients, and it has important public health implications.

Background: Long‐term outcomes after COVID‐19 infection unique to solid organ transplant recipients (SOTR) are not published. We describe outcomes including readmission, allograft rejection, allograft dysfunction, allograft failure, and death. Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of mostly unvaccinated SOTR with COVID‐19 from March 2020 to November 2021. Disease severity was assigned by NIH criteria. Data included demographics, clinical features, treatment, and outcomes and are presented as mean ± standard deviation or median (range). Results: One hundred and thirty‐eight SOTR were diagnosed with COVID‐19 at a median of 5 (IQR 3–8) years post‐transplant with a mean age of 57 ± 12 years at diagnosis. Forty‐one recovered at home; 97 were admitted. 12/32 (37.5%) SOTR with critical disease expired during initial admission. Among those who recovered, 48/126 (38.0%) had asymptomatic or mild infection, 31/126 (24.6%) had moderate, 27/126 (21.4%) severe, and 20/126 (15.9%) critical infection. 38/85 (44.7%) of SOTR who survived initial admission had 74 readmissions within 180 days (Figure 1). The 6‐month mortality rate among those who survived infection was 4/126 (3.2%). The mean time from initial infection to death was 32 ± 66 days in inpatient deaths and 95 ± 39 days in those who were discharged or never admitted. Six‐month graft dysfunction occurred in 18/125 (14.4%) and graft failure in 9/126 (7.2%); five failures were deaths with function. Conclusion: Readmissions after COVID‐19 infection were frequent after the index admission. Rejection was relatively infrequent; graft dysfunction at 6 months post‐infection was more common than rejection. Aim: to demonstrate the features of detection and diagnosis of latent tuberculosis infection and pulmonary tuberculosis in children from household contacts based on own clinical observation. Materials and methods. A clinical case of own observation of pulmonary tuberculosis and latent tuberculosis infection in children from household contacts who were treated in the paediatric department of the clinical base of the Phthysiatry and Pulmonology Department of Zaporizhzhia State Medical and Pharmaceutical University on Public Non-Profit Enterprise of the “Zaporizhzhia Regional Clinical and Diagnostic Center of Phthysiatry and Pulmonology” of Zaporizhzhia Regional Council. Results. Children from household contacts were examined at ages: 8 months, 2, 3, 5 and 7 years, after their mother was diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB). All children showed an increase in tuberculin skin test, at the X-ray of the thoracic cavity organs (TCO) no changes were detected in any child. Taking into account the age of the children and their constant residence with the index patient, a decision was made to conduct an additional examination using CT scan of the TCO. Thus, three children were diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis – primary tuberculosis complex, and two were infected. After receiving the results of the culture test in the gastric lavage, the youngest child was found MBT, which was resistant to first-line drugs, namely isoniazid and rifampicin, which required a treatment regimen adjustment. It should be noted that the youngest girl, who was not vaccinated, had the most widespread process in the lungs compared to other children. Conclusions. Monitoring and screening of children who have been in contact with the index patient within the household maximises the detection of additional cases of latent tuberculosis infection and pulmonary TB. The most at-risk groups are those who not vaccinated with BCG vaccine and children under 5 years of age. Early detection and timely prescription of anti-TB therapy is the key not only to effective treatment, but also to preventing the transmission of TB infection.

Nowadays, the market for baby and children’s products is growing and offering significant opportunities. This situation increasingly diversifies mothers’ decisions to purchase products and services on behalf of their children. Therefore, these decisions made by mothers and the underlying dynamics have increased remarkably in marketing field in recent years. However, when the studies are examined, it is seen that maternal decisions are handled within the scope of the traditional-consumer decision process. The majority of these theories involve one’s self-directed decisions. However, when making decisions on behalf of their children, mothers make a proxy decision. Another prominent issue is the emphasis on self-expansion theories and the disregard of social identity formation theories in studies examining mothers’ decisions. Based on these shortcomings in the literature, in this research, the decisions taken by mothers on behalf of their children are conceptualized as the “proxy decision-making” process and it aims to reveal the process of social identity formation. In this research, a case study was designed, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 20 participating mothers who decided to be vegan, unvaccinated and unschooled. The findings of the research were presented and interpreted in line with the coding of interview data, literature and relationship analysis. So, it has been seen that mothers tend to create social identity in proxy decision-making, and the themes of verification effort and satisfaction with the decision are effective in this social identity formation process. The vaccine is one of the most reliable protection against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This study aimed to determine the parents' perceptions of the implementation of COVID-19 vaccines. The 15 parent-participants of the unvaccinated students of ARMM Regional Science High School were the respondents of the study. The modified survey questionnaire from Kaiser Family Foundation (2021) was utilized in this study to determine the responses of parents on the implementation of COVID-19 vaccines through the descriptive-survey method. Results revealed that parents were not too confident with the COVID-19 vaccine safety (mean=2.6), yet they were not worried about its side effects if they let their child get vaccinated (mean=3.6), and it makes them very worried when their child gets seriously sick from COVID -19 (mean=3.5). Also, they did have not much trust in their child's pediatrician in terms of reliable information (mean=2.2) and they believed it has no impact on their decision to not get their child vaccinated after talking to a pediatrician (mean=2.7). Furthermore, parents have enough information about the COVID-19 vaccine and infection with the help of their trusted source the public health department and they were even encouraged by their child's school but they were mainly worried about their child's safety due to its side effects hence their child is still not vaccinated. Introduction: Characteristics of exposure and infection risk, are important in strategy development for infection control among healthcare workers (HCWs). Our objective was to investigate the characteristics of exposure of HCWs to SARS-CoV-2 and determine the risk of COVID-19 development. Methodology: This is a retrospective single-center cohort study, conducted between March and December 2020. Unvaccinated and exposed HCWs were asked to complete a standard form, including demographic data and characteristics of exposure(s). Exposures were stratified according to national guidelines. STROBE checklist was used. Results: Among a total of 4,385 healthcare workers, 1,483 HCWs (33.8%) with a total of 1,903 exposures to SARS-CoV-2 were identified. Median age was 31 (IQR: 26-40) years and 45.4% were male (N = 673). Following exposure, 78 HCWs became SARS-CoV-2-positive (attack rate: 3.9%) and secondary attack rate was 4/16. In terms of infection, exposure to SARS-CoV-2-positive HCWs posed a greater risk compared to contact with patients (8.9%, [n = 66] vs. 3.8% [n = 12], respectively, p = 0.003). PCR positivity rates were 11.5%, 6.3%, and 8.4% for low, medium, and high-risk contacts (p = 0.152). Median time to infection post-exposure was 7 (IQR: 4-13) days. Conclusions: Given the attack rates, there was no correlation between risk levels and PCR test positivity rates. There was no difference between HCWs with or without work restrictions, in terms of PCR positivity. Due to feasibility issues, prioritizing universally applied symptom screening and resource control strategies and suspending contact tracing and work restrictions, appear to be safe during high prevalence period. SARS-CoV-2 vaccination promises to improve outcomes for patients with COVID-19 pneumonia (most notably those with advanced age and at high risk for severe disease). Here, we examine serum 25-Hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) status and outcomes in both old (>70 years) and young vaccinated (n = 80) and unvaccinated (n = 91) subjects, who were hospitalized due to COVID-19 pneumonia in a single center (Connolly Hospital Dublin). Outcomes included ICU admission and mortality. Serum 25(OH)D levels were categorized as D30 (<30 nmol/L), D40 (30–49.99 nmol/L) and D50 (≥50 nmol/L). In multivariate analyses, D30 was independently associated with ICU admission (OR: 6.87 (95% CI: 1.13–41.85) (p = 0.036)) and mortality (OR: 24.81 (95% CI: 1.57–392.1) (p = 0.023)) in unvaccinated patients, even after adjustment for major confounders including age, sex, obesity and pre-existing diabetes mellitus. While mortality was consistently higher in all categories of patients over 70 years of age, the highest observed mortality rate of 50%, seen in patients over 70 years with a low vitamin D state (D30), appeared to be almost completely corrected by either vaccination, or having a higher vitamin D state, i.e., mortality was 14% for vaccinated patients over 70 years with D30 and 16% for unvaccinated patients over 70 years with a 25(OH)D level greater than 30 nmol/L. We observe that high mortality from COVID-19 pneumonia occurs in older patients, especially those who are unvaccinated or have a low vitamin D state. Recent vaccination or having a high vitamin D status are both associated with reduced mortality, although these effects do not fully mitigate the mortality risk associated with advanced age. We compared the clinical characteristics and outcome of vaccinated hospitalized COVID-19 patients with unvaccinated hospitalized COVID-19 patients. A retrospective cohort study was conducted at the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital and Research Center, Karachi, Pakistan. A total of 1407 hospitalized COVID-19 positive patients were included from April 2021 to March 2022, of which 812 (57.71%) were males. Of the 1407, 378 (26.87%) patients were vaccinated while 1029 (73.13%) were unvaccinated. Of the vaccinated patients, 160 (42.32%) were partially vaccinated while 218 (57.68%) were fully vaccinated (vaccine breakthrough infection). Fewer unvaccinated COVID-19 patients survived compared to vaccinated patients (62.5% vs. 70%, RR 0.89, 95% CI: 0.82–0.96, p-value = 0.004). Despite there being more vaccinated patients above 60 years of age (60.05% vs. 47.13%), their risk of mortality was lower by 43% (OR = 0.578; CI = 0.4201 to 0.7980, p = 0.0009). On survival analysis, vaccinated patients had better 30-day survival compared to unvaccinated patients (p = 0.028). Moreover, comparing waves 3–5, unvaccinated patients of wave 4, which was driven by the delta variant, had the worst survival (51.8%, p ≤ 0.001) while vaccinated patients of wave 3 (driven by the alpha variant) had the best survival (71.6%). Introduction: COVID-19 in Brazil has already caused, and it still causes, several impacts on health, economy, and education. The risk factors for death involved those with cardiovascular diseases (CVD), which were prioritized for the vaccination of COVID-19. Objective: To investigate the clinical characteristics and outcomes between vaccinated and unvaccinated patients with cardiovascular diseases hospitalized for COVID-19 in Brazil in the year 2022. Methods: A retrospective cohort was analyzed from the year 2022, with cases being hospitalized by COVID-19 being drawn from SIVEP-GRIPE surveillance. We compared clinical characteristics, comorbidities, and outcomes between CVD carriers and non-carriers, and we also compared vaccinated with two doses vs. those that are unvaccinated in CVD carriers. We performed chi-square, odds ratio, logistic regression, and survival analysis. Results: We included, in the cohort, 112,459 hospital inpatients. An amount of 71,661 (63.72%) of the hospitalized patients had CVD. Regarding deaths, 37,888 (33.69%) died. Regarding vaccination against COVID-19, 20,855 (18.54%) people were not vaccinated with any dose among those with CVD. Death p- < 0.001 (OR 1.307-CI 1.235–1.383) and fever p- < 0.001 (OR 1.156-CI 1.098–1.218) were associated with the unvaccinated CVD carriers, and diarrhea p-0.015 (OR 1.116-CI 1.022–1.218), dyspnea p-0.022 (OR 1.074-CI 1.011–1.142), and respiratory distress p-0.021 (OR 1.070-CI 1.011–1.134) were also recorded. Those patients who possessed predictors of death, including invasive ventilation (p- < 0.001 (OR 8.816-CI 8.313–9.350)), were admitted to the ICU p- < 0.001 (OR 1.754-CI 1.684–1.827), and some had respiratory distress p- < 0.001 (OR 1.367-CI 1.312–1.423), dyspnea p < 0.001 (OR 1.341-CI 1.284–1.400), O2 saturation < 95% p- < 0. 001 (OR 1.307-CI 1.254–1.363), they were unvaccinated against COVID-19 p- < 0.001 (OR 1.258-CI 1.200–1.319), they were of male sex p- < 0.001 (OR 1.179-CI 1.138–1.221), they had diarrhea p-0.018 (OR 1.081-CI 1.013–1.154), and they may have been old p < 0.001 (OR 1.034-CI 1.033–1.035). Survival was shorter for the unvaccinated p-0.003, and p- <0.001. Conclusions: We highlight the predictors of death for those unvaccinated against COVID-19 in this research, and we evidenced the benefits of the COVID-19 vaccine in reducing deaths in hospitalized CVD patients. Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) was declared a pandemic in March 2020. Its reported impact on solid-organ-transplant-recipient morbidity and mortality has varied. The aim of this study was to present the effect of transplant status, patient comorbidities and immunosuppression modality on the survival of solid-organ-transplant recipients who contracted SAR-CoV-2 during the pre-vaccination era, at a single academic transplant center. Patients (n = 103) were assessed for 90-day mortality. A univariate analysis identified an age of over 60 years (HR = 10, p = 0.0034), Belatacept (HR = 6.1, p = 0.022), and Cyclosporine (HR = 6.1, p = 0.0089) as significant mortality risk factors; Tacrolimus was protective (HR = 0.23, p = 0.022). Common metabolic comorbidities (hypertension, diabetes, obesity) did not stand out as risk factors in our patient cohort. This study on the unvaccinated is expected to facilitate a paired comparison of outcomes in transplanted patients who contracted SARS-CoV-2 during the latter period of the pandemic, when broad SARS-CoV-2 vaccination and novel antibody treatments became broadly available.

During pregnancy, certain viral infections are known to significantly affect fetal development. Data regarding the impact of COVID-19 viral infection in pregnancy, specifically in asymptomatic or mild cases, remains limited. This presents a challenge in providing prenatal counseling and antepartum surveillance in pregnancies complicated by COVID-19 infection. Placenta studies have demonstrated that vascular malperfusion patterns attributed to COVID-19 appear to depend on the timing of infection. Given these placental changes, we aim to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on fetal growth in pregnant patients with asymptomatic or mild disease, stratified by trimester of infection. We hypothesize that COVID-19 infection, especially early in pregnancy, increases the risk of fetal growth restriction (FGR). Study design. This is a single institution, retrospective cohort study of patients ages 16–55 years old with a singleton delivery between December 10, 2020, and April 19, 2021 who had not received a COVID-19 vaccination prior to delivery. COVID-19 infection during pregnancy was defined as a positive SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR test. FGR was defined as an estimated fetal weight less than the 10th percentile for gestational age or abdominal circumference less than the 10th percentile for gestational age. Maternal and fetal characteristics, including FGR, were compared between women with versus without COVID-19 infection during pregnancy. Among 1971 women with a singleton delivery, 208 (10.6 %) had a prior asymptomatic or mild COVID-19 infection during pregnancy. With the exception in the median prenatal BMI being significantly higher in the COVID-19 group (median, 27.5 vs 26.3, p = 0.04), there were no significant differences in demographics, baseline maternal comorbidities or gestational age between those with versus without COVID-19 infection during pregnancy, or in the proportion of their offspring with FGR (3.4 % (7/208) vs 4.8 % (84/1763), p = 0.36). When the 208 women were stratified by the timing of their COVID-19 infection, the proportion with an offspring with FGR was 8.7 % (2/23), 1.2 % (1/84), and 4.0 % (4/101), for those first diagnosed with COVID-19 during the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimesters, respectively (p = 0.72 Cochran-Armitage test for trend). Asymptomatic or mild COVID-19 infection in pregnancy, regardless of timing of infection, does not appear to be associated with FGR. We report 2 immunocompetent and otherwise healthy adults in the United States who had monkeypox and required hospitalization for viral myocarditis. Both patients were unvaccinated against orthopoxviruses. They had shortness of breath or chest pain and elevated cardiac biomarkers. No immediate complications were observed. Between the first case of COVID-19 in January 2020 and the end of 2021, Thailand experienced four waves of the epidemic. The third and fourth waves were caused by the alpha and delta strains from April 2021 to November 2021. Serosurveillance studies provide snapshots of the true scale of the outbreak, including the asymptomatic infections that could not be fully captured by a hospital-based case detection system. We aimed to investigate the distribution of SARs-CoV-2 seroprevalence in unvaccinated adults after the delta wave outbreak. From November to December 2021, we conducted a cross-sectional survey study in 12 public health areas (PHAs) across Thailand. A total of 26,717 blood samples were collected and tested for SARs-CoV-2 antibodies (anti-S IgG) using a qualitative immunoassay. The results showed that seropositive prevalence in this cohort was 1.4% (95% CI: 1.24 to 1.52). The lowest prevalence was in the northern region (PHA 1) and in central Thailand (PHA 3) at 0.4% (95% CI: 0.15 to 0.95), while the highest was in the southern region of Thailand (PHA 12) at 5.8% (95% CI: 4.48 to 7.29). This seropositive prevalence was strikingly lower than the reports from other countries. Abstract Background Immunization plays a vital role in child health and survival. Zero-dose children are coming increasingly into focus as part of the global Immunization Agenda 2030. Although the percentage of zero-dose children has decreased in Turkey over time, regional/socioeconomic inequalities persist. This study aims to analyze the trend in zero-dose children and the factors associated with this problem in Turkey in light of regional inequalities. Methods Six data sets (1993, 1998, 2003, 2008, 2013, and 2018) were pooled from the last six Turkey Demographic and Health Surveys (TDHSs). The vaccination module for children aged 12–35 months and variables related to household characteristics, socio-economic, cultural characteristics of parents, bio-demographic/health-related factors were taken from the DHS data. Binary logistic regression analyses were carried out by taking into account the complex sample design of surveys for Turkey in general, the East region, and other regions. Results Significant progress has been made in reducing the number of zero-dose children in Turkey over the last three decades, as it has dropped from 3.2 to 0.9%. The results of multivariate analyses revealed that survey year, household wealth, the mother’s level of education, payment of bride price, mother’s native language, place of delivery, and the number of antenatal care visits are associated with zero-dose children. Factors associated with zero-dose children also differ between the East region, and other regions. Conclusion Public health programs targeting uneducated parents, poor households, lack of social security, Kurdish-speaking mothers, older mothers and those without antenatal care should be implemented to promote childhood immunization.

The risk of hospitalization and occurrence of moderate to severe disease was 2.3 and 4 times more in the non-vaccinated group as compared to the vaccinated group, respectively. No mortality was reported among the breakthrough cases. Interpretation and Conclusions: Despite the occurrence of BTIs, the benefits of vaccines are far greater. Our findings suggest that vaccination is associated with a lower risk of hospital admission, severe disease, and mortality against COVID-19.

Introduction: Breakthrough infections in fully vaccinated persons pose a major challenge to the ongoing vaccine campaign against SARS-CoV-2 globally. Objectives: To investigate the occurrence of breakthrough infections and the association of Covid symptoms with the vaccination status of health care workers (HCWs). Material and Methods: Done in Government Medical College, Patiala among Covid-positive HCWs who have received one or both doses of Covid vaccine, using pretested semi-structured validated Proforma and telephonic interview from April 1, 2021 to June 15, 2021. Results: Among 3388 HCWs, 115 vaccinated HCWs (1st or 2nd dose) became Covid positive. Among vaccinated Covid positive HCWs, 54 received the first dose and 61 both doses. Breakthrough infections (≥14 days post 2nd dose) occurred in 4.6% (47 of 1021) HCWs. The vaccine is significantly protective as shown by an odds ratio of 0.27; thus, vaccinated HCWs are 73% less likely to get Covid infection as compared to non-vaccinated HCWs. There was no statistically significant difference between symptom profiles of cases whether they took one or both doses of vaccine, except headache. Only tiredness and headache were reported significantly higher in the unvaccinated group in comparison to vaccinated HCWs. Conclusion; Research is needed on tracking the immune response and viral genomic sequence of samples of vaccinated Covid-positive HCWs to have constant vigilance on remerging new strains of the SARS-CoV-2.

Objectives: First, to determine prevalence of vaccinated COVID-19 patients among hospitalized patients; second, to determine the epidemiological, clinical, and laboratory characteristics of vaccinated and unvaccinated COVID-19 patients. Methods: The study was carried out on 300 adult COVID-19 hospitalized patients at Duhok COVID-19 health facilities. A prospective crosssectional study was used as the study design. Between October 1, 2021, and March 31, 2022, all patients with PCR-confirmed COVID-19 were enrolled. Results: The majority of people in this study were unvaccinated. Pfizer was most popular among people who had received vaccination. The majority of hospitalized patients were old ages, the mean age was 60.73 ± 15.83 yr. In our study, the unvaccinated females had higher infection rates while vaccinated males had higher hospital admission rates. In our study, vaccinated patients had shorter hospital duration stays. In both vaccinated and unvaccinated patients, predominated cases were severe cases. D dimer was significantly higher among vaccinated patients. The mortality rate was relatively high among both groups. Patients who had received vaccinations tended to experience vomiting and flu-like symptoms more frequently than those who had not. In terms of comorbidities, smoking and malignancy were significant risk factors for COVID-19 infection in unvaccinated patients. Conclusion: We looked at 300 COVID-19 hospitalized patients. In this study, the majority of people were unvaccinated. Pfizer, had higher prevalence among vaccinated individuals. Majority were elderly. The unvaccinated cases had a higher rate of female hospital admissions than male. The D.Dimer level was significantly different between the two groups. Vomiting and flu-like illness showed higher prevalence in vaccinated cases with significant difference. Smoking and malignancy were significant risk factors for COVID-19 infection in unvaccinated patients. • Comprehensive review of recent literature on zero- or missed-dose children in Nigeria. • Risk factors are well-known and widely studied. • Literature on interventions was scattered, and focussed on campaigns and polio. • Gaps exist in investigating how to deliver sustainable immunization programs. • Further work is needed to operationalise findings of this review. 'Zero-dose' refers to a person who does not receive a single dose of any vaccine in the routine national immunization schedule, while 'missed dose' refers to a person who does not complete the schedule. These people remain vulnerable to vaccine-preventable diseases, and are often already disadvantaged due to poverty, conflict, and lack of access to basic health services. Globally, more 22.7 million children are estimated to be zero- or missed-dose, of which an estimated 3.1 million (∼14 %) reside in Nigeria. We conducted a scoping review to synthesize recent literature on risk factors and interventions for zero- and missed-dose children in Nigeria. Our search identified 127 papers, including research into risk factors only (n = 66); interventions only (n = 34); both risk factors and interventions (n = 18); and publications that made recommendations only (n = 9). The most frequently reported factors influencing childhood vaccine uptake were maternal factors (n = 77), particularly maternal education (n = 22) and access to ante- and perinatal care (n = 19); heterogeneity between different types of communities – including location, region, wealth, religion, population composition, and other challenges (n = 50); access to vaccination, i.e., proximity of facilities with vaccines and vaccinators (n = 37); and awareness about immunization – including safety, efficacy, importance, and schedules (n = 18). Literature assessing implementation of interventions was more scattered, and heavily skewed towards vaccination campaigns and polio eradication efforts. Major evidence gaps exist in how to deliver effective and sustainable routine childhood immunization. Overall, further work is needed to operationalise the learnings from these studies, e.g. through applying findings to Nigeria's next review of vaccination plans, and using this summary as a basis for further investigation and specific recommendations on effective interventions. Infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2/Covid-19) has been correlated with micro and macrovascular thrombosis. Reports have discussed localized thrombosis leading to ischemia, we report a case of diffuse systemic thromboembolism resulting in limb ischemia and organ damage from Covid-19 despite prompt anticoagulation. A 60-year-old unvaccinated male with a history of asthma, diabetes mellitus and coronary artery disease, presented with shortness of breath and right lower extremity pain. The patient was found to be Covid-19 Delta variant positive. CTA and transthoracic echocardiogram showed diffuse thromboembolic disease affecting the left ventricle, right kidney and bilateral lower extremities.

We compared the clinical characteristics and outcome of vaccinated hospitalized COVID-19 patients with unvaccinated hospitalized COVID-19 patients. A retrospective cohort study was conducted at the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital and Research Center, Karachi, Pakistan. A total of 1407 hospitalized COVID-19 positive patients were included from April 2021 to March 2022, of which 812 (57.71%) were males. Of the 1407, 378 (26.87%) patients were vaccinated while 1029 (73.13%) were unvaccinated. Of the vaccinated patients, 160 (42.32%) were partially vaccinated while 218 (57.68%) were fully vaccinated (vaccine breakthrough infection). Fewer unvaccinated COVID-19 patients survived compared to vaccinated patients (62.5% vs. 70%, RR 0.89, 95% CI: 0.82–0.96, p-value = 0.004). Despite there being more vaccinated patients above 60 years of age (60.05% vs. 47.13%), their risk of mortality was lower by 43% (OR = 0.578; CI = 0.4201 to 0.7980, p = 0.0009). On survival analysis, vaccinated patients had better 30-day survival compared to unvaccinated patients (p = 0.028). Moreover, comparing waves 3–5, unvaccinated patients of wave 4, which was driven by the delta variant, had the worst survival (51.8%, p ≤ 0.001) while vaccinated patients of wave 3 (driven by the alpha variant) had the best survival (71.6%).

Introduction: Vaccination offers significant protection against hospitalization and death due to severe COVID-19. However, a significant portion of the nonelderly U.S. adult population remains unvaccinated. Methods: This retrospective analysis of adult patients aged under 65 years hospitalized with PCR-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 between March and November 2021 assessed the age-biased risk for severe disease and outcome in non-elderly unvaccinated adults hospitalized for COVID-19. Main measures included predisposing risk factors, disease severity and progression, and outcomes in non-elderly adults compared between (1) vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals and (2) unvaccinated individuals grouped by 10-year age increment. Results: Two hundred nineteen non-elderly adults were included; of whom, 82.6% were unvaccinated. Overall, unvaccinated patients were more likely to be obese (60% vs 29%, P <.001) while vaccinated patients were more likely to have cardiovascular disease (50% vs 29%, P =.03). Unvaccinated individuals had prolonged ICU stay (11 vs 2 days, P =.002) and overall length of stay (6 vs 5 days, P <.0001), and higher proportion requiring oxygen at discharge (54% vs 29%, P <.0001). An age-stratified analysis of the unvaccinated cohort found that the time to discharge increased with age (P =.003). Compared to unvaccinated patients aged <46 years, unvaccinated patients aged ≥46 years demonstrated 1.47- and 3.49-times higher likelihood of oxygen dependency upon discharge (P =.002) and requiring higher level of care or worse at discharge (P =.004), respectively. Conclusion: Results from our non-elderly cohort affirm the benefit of vaccination despite a subset requiring hospitalization for breakthrough infection. In unvaccinated non-elderly adults, risk for worse outcomes and severe disease increased substantially from middle age onward and provides strong support for vaccination efforts in this population. This study aimed to describe the impact of vaccination and the role of humoral responses on post–COVID-19 syndrome 1 year after the onset of SARS coronavirus type 2 (CoV-2). This prospective study was conducted through interviews to investigate post–COVID-19 syndrome 6 and 12 months after disease onset in all adult in- and outpatients with COVID-19 at Udine Hospital (March–May 2020). Vaccination status and two different serological assays to distinguish between response to vaccination (receptor-binding domain (RBD) SARS-CoV-2 IgG) and/or natural infection (non-RBD-SARS-CoV-2 IgG) were also assessed. A total of 479 patients (52.6% female; mean age: 53 years) were interviewed 13.5 months (standard deviation: 0.6 months) after acute infection. Post–COVID-19 syndrome was observed in 47.2% of patients (n = 226) after 1 year. There were no significant differences in the worsening of post–COVID-19 symptoms (22.7% vs. 15.8%; p = 0.209) among vaccinated (n = 132) and unvaccinated (n = 347) patients. The presence of non-RBD SARS-CoV-2 IgG induced by natural infection showed a significant association with post–COVID-19 syndrome (OR: 1.35; 95% CI, 1.11–1.64; p = 0.003), and median non-RBD SARS-CoV-2 IgG titres were significantly higher in long haulers than in patients without symptoms (22 kAU/L (interquartile range, 9.7–37.2 kAU/L) vs. 14.1 kAU/L (interquartile range, 5.4–31.3 kAU/L); p = 0.009) after 1 year. In contrast, the presence of RBD SARS-CoV-2 IgG was not associated with the occurrence of post–COVID-19 syndrome (>2500 U/mL vs. 0.9–2500 U/mL; OR: 1.36; 95% CI, 0.62–3.00; p = 0.441), and RBD SARS-CoV-2 IgG titres were similar in long haulers as in patients without symptoms (50% values > 2500 U/mL vs. 55.6% values > 2500 U/mL; p = 0.451). The SARS-CoV-2 vaccination is not associated with the emergence of post–COVID-19 symptoms more than 1 year after acute infection. Background: Monoclonal antibodies (mAb) prevent COVID-19 progression when administered early. We compared mAb treatment outcomes among vaccinated and unvaccinated patients during Delta wave and assessed the feasibility of implementing stricter eligibility criteria in the event of mAb scarcity.Methods: We conducted a retrospective observational study of casirivimab/imdevimab recipients with mild-to-moderate COVID-19 infection in an emergency department or outpatient infusion center (July 1-August 20, 2021). Primary outcome was all-cause hospital admission within 30 days post-treatment between vaccinated vs. unvaccinated patients during Delta surge in the Bronx, NY.Results: A total of 250 patients received casirivimab/imdevimab (162 unvaccinated vs. 88 vaccinated). The median age was 39 years for unvaccinated patients, and 52 years for vaccinated patients (p < 0.0001). The median number of EUA criteria met was 1 for unvaccinated and 2 for vaccinated patients (p < 0.0001). Overall, 6% (15/250) of patients were admitted within 30 days post-treatment. Eleven unvaccinated patients (7%) were admitted within 30-days compared to 4 (5%) vaccinated patients (p = 0.48).Conclusions: All-cause 30-day admission was not statistically different between vaccinated and unvaccinated patients. Background: Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination is recommended for children aged 11-12 years in the United States. One factor that may contribute to low national HPV vaccine uptake is parental exposure to misinformation on social media. Objective: This study aimed to examine the association between parents' perceptions of the HPV vaccine information on social media and internet verification strategies used with the HPV vaccine decision-making stage for their child. Methods: Parents of children and adolescents aged 9-17 years were recruited for a cross-sectional survey in North Texas (n=1192) and classified into 3 groups: children and adolescents who (1) were vaccinated, (2) unvaccinated and did not want the vaccine, and (3) unvaccinated and wanted the vaccine. Multinomial logistic regression models were estimated to identify factors associated with the HPV vaccine decision-making stage with children and adolescents who were vaccinated as the referent group. Results: Of the 1192 respondents, 44.7% (n=533) had an HPV-vaccinated child, 38.8% (n=463) had an unvaccinated child and did not want the vaccine, and 16.4% (n=196) had an unvaccinated child and wanted the vaccine. Respondents were less likely to be "undecided/not wanting the vaccine" if they agreed that HPV information on social media is credible (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 0.40, 95% CI 0.26-0.60; P=.001), disagreed that social media makes them question the HPV vaccine (aOR 0.22, 95% CI 0.15-0.33; P<.001), or had a higher internet verification score (aOR 0.74, 95% CI 0.62-0.88; P<.001). Conclusions: Interventions that promote web-based health literacy skills are needed so parents can protect their families from misinformation and make informed health care decisions. Introduction: COVID-19 in Brazil has already caused, and it still causes, several impacts on health, economy, and education. The risk factors for death involved those with cardiovascular diseases (CVD), which were prioritized for the vaccination of COVID-19. Objective: To investigate the clinical characteristics and outcomes between vaccinated and unvaccinated patients with cardiovascular diseases hospitalized for COVID-19 in Brazil in the year 2022. Methods: A retrospective cohort was analyzed from the year 2022, with cases being hospitalized by COVID-19 being drawn from SIVEP-GRIPE surveillance. We compared clinical characteristics, comorbidities, and outcomes between CVD carriers and non-carriers, and we also compared vaccinated with two doses vs. those that are unvaccinated in CVD carriers. We performed chi-square, odds ratio, logistic regression, and survival analysis. Results: We included, in the cohort, 112,459 hospital inpatients. An amount of 71,661 (63.72%) of the hospitalized patients had CVD. Regarding deaths, 37,888 (33.69%) died. Regarding vaccination against COVID-19, 20,855 (18.54%) people were not vaccinated with any dose among those with CVD. Death p- < 0.001 (OR 1.307-CI 1.235–1.383) and fever p- < 0.001 (OR 1.156-CI 1.098–1.218) were associated with the unvaccinated CVD carriers, and diarrhea p-0.015 (OR 1.116-CI 1.022–1.218), dyspnea p-0.022 (OR 1.074-CI 1.011–1.142), and respiratory distress p-0.021 (OR 1.070-CI 1.011–1.134) were also recorded. Background: Immunization plays a vital role in child health and survival. Zero-dose children are coming increasingly into focus as part of the global Immunization Agenda 2030. Although the percentage of zero-dose children has decreased in Turkey over time, regional/socioeconomic inequalities persist. This study aims to analyze the trend in zero-dose children and the factors associated with this problem in Turkey in light of regional inequalities.Methods: Six data sets (1993, 1998, 2003, 2008, 2013, and 2018) were pooled from the last six Turkey Demographic and Health Surveys (TDHSs). The vaccination module for children aged 12-35 months and variables related to household characteristics, socio-economic, cultural characteristics of parents, bio-demographic/health-related factors were taken from the DHS data. Binary logistic regression analyses were carried out by taking into account the complex sample design of surveys for Turkey in general, the East region, and other regions.Results: Significant progress has been made in reducing the number of zero-dose children in Turkey over the last three decades, as it has dropped from 3.2 to 0.9%. The results of multivariate analyses revealed that survey year, household wealth, the mother's level of education, payment of bride price, mother's native language, place of delivery, and the number of antenatal care visits are associated with zero-dose children. Factors associated with zero-dose children also differ between the East region, and other regions.Conclusion: Public health programs targeting uneducated parents, poor households, lack of social security, Kurdish-speaking mothers, older mothers and those without antenatal care should be implemented to promote childhood immunization. In order to determine the antibodies levels against Bovine Herpesvirus type 1 (BHV-1) and associated risk factors in unvaccinated dairy herds of tropical wet weather of Ecuador, an investigation was carried out in thirteen production units (PU), in the Chone Canton, Province of Manabí. The sample size was calculate by cluster sampling and the variables to be evaluated were antibodies levels frequency, age, sex, ocular or vulvovaginal lesions, breed and PU. One hundred eighty three blood samples were taken from the jugular or caudal vein and labeled for transfer to the laboratory. The tubes were centrifuged at 3,220 g for 15 minutes and the sera were transferred to Eppendorf tubes that once labeled were stored at –20°C until processing. Antibodies levels against HBV-1 were measured through of competitive ELISA technique, and calculated with simples statistical. The risk factors were estimated through the Odds ratio and relative risk, and the significance level through the Chi-square. The general antibodies levels frequency was 58.47 %. Rabies is one of the deadliest zoonoses that have existed for decades, affecting wide range of hosts globally. In Nigeria, there is paucity of data on routine antibody check of antirabies vaccinated dogs as quality assurance. This study was designed to investigate the seroprevalence of canine rabies virus in both vaccinated and unvaccinated dogs within Kwara State, Nigeria. A total of one hundred and eighty-two (182) blood samples collected from dogs were transported to the Virology and Immunology Laboratory of the University of Ilorin Veterinary Teaching Hospital for processing. Sera were harvested from the blood samples and rabies IgG was qualitatively determined by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) technique. Overall seroprevalence of 11% (20/182) was recorded in this study. One hundred and twenty-one (66.5%) and Sixty-one (33.5%) of the dogs used in this study had vaccination and non-vaccination status respectively. The study also revealed that several dogs (78.7%; 48/61) that were said to be vaccinated did not have rabies antibodies while some unvaccinated dogs (5.8%; 7/121) had rabies antibodies. There was a significant (χ2 = 11.177, df = 4, P = 0.025) association between age group and rabies virus antibodies detection. The same significant (χ2 = 9.995, df = 1, P = .002) association was observed for vaccination status of dogs sampled. On the other hand, sex has no significant (χ2 = 0.71, df = 1, P = .790) association with rabies virus antibodies. Poor attitude to vaccination of dogs used for hunting in rural and semi-urban areas was generally observed compared to dogs kept for other purposes in urban areas. There is need for increased rabies awareness campaign, vaccine subsidies, and wider sero-surveillance activities engaging the relevant stakeholders with government sponsorship. Introduction:Vaccination offers significant protection against hospitalization and death due to severe COVID-19. However, a significant portion of the nonelderly U.S. adult population remains unvaccinated. Methods: This retrospective analysis of adult patients aged under 65 years hospitalized with PCR-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 between March and November 2021 assessed the age-biased risk for severe disease and outcome in non-elderly unvaccinated adults hospitalized for COVID-19. Main measures included predisposing risk factors, disease severity and progression, and outcomes in nonelderly adults compared between (1) vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals and (2) unvaccinated individuals grouped by 10-year age increment. Results: Two hundred nineteen non-elderly adults were included; of whom, 82.6% were unvaccinated. Overall, unvaccinated patients were more likely to be obese (60% vs 29%, P < .001) while vaccinated patients were more likely to have cardiovascular disease (50% vs 29%, P = .03). Unvaccinated individuals had prolonged ICU stay (11 vs 2 days, P = .002) and overall length of stay (6 vs 5 days, P < .0001), and higher proportion requiring oxygen at discharge (54% vs 29%, P < .0001). An age-stratified analysis of the unvaccinated cohort found that the time to discharge increased with age (P = .003). Compared to unvaccinated patients aged <46 years, unvaccinated patients aged =46 years demonstrated 1.47- and 3.49-times higher likelihood of oxygen dependency upon discharge (P = .002) and requiring higher level of care or worse at discharge (P = .004), respectively. Conclusion: Results from our non-elderly cohort affirm the benefit of vaccination despite a subset requiring hospitalization for breakthrough infection. In unvaccinated non-elderly adults, risk for worse outcomes and severe disease increased substantially from middle age onward and provides strong support for vaccination efforts in this population. Relevance. In recent years, in Russia, against the background of a stable high (no less than 95%) coverage of live measles vaccine (GI) inoculations of decreed groups of the population for almost twenty years, increases in morbidity have been registered, reaching the indicators of 3.3(2014) and 3.1 (2019) per 100 ths population and local outbreaks involving the child population. This situation has raised doubts among a number of researchers about the reliability of high vaccination coverage in children and adults. In this regard, some researchers assumed the loss of post-vaccination immunity and suggested revaccination against measles every 10 years for people up to 50 years old. Others suggested serological examination of certain cohorts of the adult population without taking into account the vaccination history for timely detection and vaccination of individuals with primary post-vaccination failures and who have lost post-vaccination immunity. The purpose of the work: to assess the state of population immunity for some manifestations of the epidemic process of measles infection and the feasibility of changing the tactics of vaccination against measles. Materials and methods. The work uses epidemiological operational and retrospective analysis. The research is based on the analysis of official statistics № 2, № 5, № 6, reports of regional centers, «maps of the surveillance of a case of suspected measles...», information and analytical bulletins of the National scientific and methodological center for the supervision of measles and rubella (NNMC). A total of 18,750 documents were analyzed. The average values, the average standard error, the correlation coefficient of the series, the reliability of the correlation coefficient, and the regression coefficient were calculated. Results and discussion. One of the indirect indicators of the state of population immunity is the ratio of vaccinated and not vaccinated against measles in the structure of patients. The analysis showed a steady trend towards the prevalence of cases not vaccinated against measles in the structure: since 2011, more than 70%, and since 2017 – more than 80%. The percentage of vaccinated people is decreasing from 12.8% to 5.4% (2017) and has stabilized in the last 2.5 years at the level of 5.4–7.2%. Over the past 2 years, there has also been some stabilization of the proportion of people twice vaccinated – 9.4–9.8%. Intensive indicators of morbidity confirmed the General trend of extensive indicators. In addition, over the past 3 years, the intensive incidence rate of those vaccinated is 14 times lower than that of those not vaccinated against measles. All this testifies to the lack of accumulation of susceptible individuals due to the loss of post-vaccination immunity and confirms the adequacy of the strategy and tactics of vaccination against measles in our country. The calculation of the regression coefficient showed that with an increase in vaccination coverage of the entire population by one percent, the incidence of measles among unvaccinated people will increase by 1.34 per one hundred thousand unvaccinated people against measles. The prevalence of foci without infection spread (more than 80%) during the analyzed period, and the restriction of secondary measles spread by the second generation of infection reproduction in foci with two or more cases of measles, multiple circulation of genotypes and subtypes of the measles virus also characterizes a fairly high population immunity. Conclusion. The steady predominance of lesions 1 case, limiting secondary spread of infection in outbreaks, the maintenance of the epidemic process of measles through an unvaccinated population indicate adequate tactics and strategy for measles immunization in our country. In dogs, canine distemper has a worldwide distribution with high morbidity/mortality, despite the widespread usage of vaccines and has no specific treatment. In susceptible animals with the canine distemper virus, respiratory, gastrointestinal and nervous system disorders, immunosuppression and cutaneous lesions can also be seen. Especially puppies and unvaccinated dogs are prone to get the viral infection. IgM and IgG antibodies constitute the major component of the natural antibodies produced during the primary and secondary antibody response that have long been recognised to inhibit viral infections. In the present study, the presence of the viral N protein-specific IgM and IgG was investigated by indirect ELISA in naturally infected dogs. Moreover, the rate of outbreaks in naturally infected dogs was shown by the detection of new and re-infections. In the Western Mediterranean region, blood serum samples were collected from 50 unvaccinated dogs for the mentioned infection between 2015 and 2017. At 0-12 months, in the dogs with clinical symptoms, the indirect ELISA detected 4% acute, 54% early convalescent, 40% late convalescent and 2% no infections phases. The clinical manifestations were studied in four main groups follow as: respiratory, gastrointestinal, nervous and cutaneous symptoms. The evaluation showed that the canine distemper virus N protein-specific antibodies detection by the indirect ELISA is quick and safe in naturally infected dogs. In conclusion, the method is very useful for the pre-diagnosis of the disease when evaluated together with the clinical symptoms. It helps to distinguish acute and convalescent (early/late) phases. Distinguishing these phases of infection is important for monitoring the spread of the outbreaks and identifying the risk of severe forms of canine distemper.

BACKGROUND: Hospital staff members are most susceptible to the COVID-19 illness, which is currently prevented through vaccination. Hospital staff members also refuse vaccinations, albeit the underlying causes have not been identified. The study aimed to compare the severity of the symptoms of the disease on the body for health workers who took the coronavirus vaccine and those who did not take the vaccine.MATERIALS AND METHODS: This cohort study aimed to estimate the of infection severity of vaccinated and unvaccinated health workers with Corona Virus in Mosul Hospital, Iraq. Data were obtained from the General Mosul Hospital, Nineveh, Iraq. The first of the three components of this questionnaire outlined the demographic characteristics. Second part: First group of unvaccinated Health care workers included those who had not received the COVID-19 immunization or had only gotten one dose of the vaccine; the second group included those who had received their first dose of Corona vaccine and the third group included those who had received two doses of Corona Vaccine. HCWs who got corona vaccine were included in the three-dose final group.RESULTS: The study's findings indicate that as compared to the corona vaccination, the vaccinated experienced less severe infection symptoms and fewer dosage stays. The high share of healthcare workers among the 20- to 30-year-olds who received vaccinations accounts for the gender gap between the vaccinated and unvaccinated groups.CONCLUSION: This study concluded that the results of the corona vaccine are not consistent among the various groups of HCWs. The acceptability of vaccinations is practically unanimous among nurses, but less so among doctors and other healthcare professionals.

Between the first case of COVID-19 in January 2020 and the end of 2021, Thailand experienced four waves of the epidemic. The third and fourth waves were caused by the alpha and delta strains from April 2021 to November 2021. Serosurveillance studies provide snapshots of the true scale of the outbreak, including the asymptomatic infections that could not be fully captured by a hospital-based case detection system. We aimed to investigate the distribution of SARs-CoV-2 seroprevalence in unvaccinated adults after the delta wave outbreak. From November to December 2021, we conducted a cross-sectional survey study in 12 public health areas (PHAs) across Thailand. A total of 26,717 blood samples were collected and tested for SARs-CoV-2 antibodies (anti-S IgG) using a qualitative immunoassay. The results showed that seropositive prevalence in this cohort was 1.4% (95% CI: 1.24 to 1.52). The lowest prevalence was in the northern region (PHA 1) and in central Thailand (PHA 3) at 0.4% (95% CI: 0.15 to 0.95), while the highest was in the southern region of Thailand (PHA 12) at 5.8% (95% CI: 4.48 to 7.29). This seropositive prevalence was strikingly lower than the reports from other countries. Our serosurveillance results suggest that the vaccination of unvaccinated groups should be accelerated, especially in the public health areas with the lowest seroprevalence.

Abstract Background Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination, intended for young women aged 11–14 years old, has been introduced in Switzerland in 2007. Ten years after its introduction, only a few studies have explored the reasons associated with uptake and non-uptake of the vaccination. Our objective was to identify the sociodemographic characteristics of a population of vaccinated and unvaccinated undergraduate healthcare female students, to define the reasons of non-uptake of vaccination, and compare our findings with those found in other Swiss cantons. Methods Between January and November 2017, women studying in Health Sciences School and Medical School in Geneva, aged 18–31 years old, were recruited in a large trial assessing HPV prevalence. As part of a smaller, observational study nested in this larger trial, women were invited to complete a questionnaire. Self-reported HPV vaccination uptake or non-uptake, as well as knowledge and attitude about HPV vaccination were assessed. T-Test and Chi square test were used to compare characteristics of vaccinated and unvaccinated women. Results Overall, 409 women were recruited in the study. The majority of them (69.1%) reported having been vaccinated for HPV, while 30.9% of them had never received any dose of the HPV vaccine. The only factor associated with a higher vaccination rate was the participants’ origin, as women from Geneva were more represented in the vaccinated group than women from other Swiss regions or countries. The evaluation of infection rate for CoVid-19 cases among vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals using haematological parameters is of interest. Data such as age, gender, occupation, location, signs and symptoms, length of symptoms, date of sample collection and report generation, status of vaccinations, and outcome available in the database was used in this analysis. Ferritin levels, D-dimer values, CRP, troponin-1 levels and platelet count of each CoVid-19 patient were recorded and analysed. Data shows that maximum number of cases was reported during the second wave 143 (51.07%). The common age group affected was 31-40 years 28.56%. The common symptom identified was weakness in arms and legs among the unvaccinated group of CoVid-19 positive group. However, common symptom identified was fatigue (87%) among those who received only the first dose of CoVid vaccine. Nonetheless, the symptom identified was hair loss (68%) among those who received both the doses of CoVid vaccine. Thus, data shows that people do experience severe and life-threatening COVID-19 infection despite receiving the vaccination. Nonetheless, the infection is mild and very few individuals require hospitalization. No deaths are reported in the group that received the vaccination.
