The Myeloproliferative Neoplasm Symptom Assessment Total Symptom Score (MPN-SAF TSS) is a surrogate marker for symptom evaluation in chronic myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). However, insufficient data are available regarding the relationship among the MPN-SAF TSS, JAK2 mutation allele burden, and thrombosis. In this retrospective analysis, we aimed to determine the genetic burdens, clinical features, and relationships with MPN-SAF TSS in MPN patients. One hundred thirty JAK2V617F-positive patients with MPNs were included in our study. We calculated the MPN-SAF TSS for all patients and compared it with their clinical characteristics. Patients with higher JAK2V617F mutation allele burden had higher MPN-SAF TSS values (p=0.008). Patients with thrombosis had higher MPN-SAF TSS than patients without thrombosis (p=0.003). The mean MPN-SAF TSS was higher in patients with primary myelofibrosis compared to those with polycythemia vera and essential thrombocythemia. Thrombosis was associated with increased symptom severity in several domains, including fatigue, abdominal discomfort, inactivity, night sweats, pruritus, weight loss, and early satiety. Additionally, an increase in JAK2 allele burden was observed with higher symptom scores. The MPNSAF TSS proved to be a reliable tool for assessing symptom burden in Turkish MPN patients. Furthermore, the significant association between thrombosis occurrence and symptom severity suggests that thrombotic events may contribute to symptom development. Notably, increasing JAK2 allele burden was correlated with more severe symptoms, highlighting its potential role in predicting disease burden. This study emphasizes the importance of symptom assessment in MPN patients and supports the incorporation of the MPN-SAF TSS in routine clinical practice to enhance patient care and management. Objective: Warfarin is the most commonly used oral anticoagulant in the treatment and prophylaxis of thromboembolic diseases. In order to prevent thrombosis and to avoid hemorrhagic complications, the patient's International Normalized Ratio (INR) is kept within a certain range according to the indication and monitored at certain intervals. Our aim in our study is to determine the percentage of patients using warfarin for various indications reaching target INR values. Methods: Patients who used warfarin for various indications at our hospital's Internal Medicine outpatient clinic between May 2023 and November 2023 were included in our study, and their INR results were recorded by retrospectively scanning them. Results: A study group was formed with a total of 130 patients. Patients using warfarin due to metallic heart valve replacement, AF, PTE and CVD were evaluated separately according to the target INR value. The percentage of patients with metallic heart valve replacement reaching the target INR value of 2.5-3.5 was calculated as 38.5% (n: 27). The percentages of patients with AF, PTE and CVD reaching their target INR values of 2-3 were calculated as 40% (n:16), 54% (n:7), 70% (n:5), respectively. Considering the entire study group, the percentage of reaching the target INR was calculated as 42% (n: 55). Conclusion: As a result, warfarin not being within the therapeutic range causes serious morbidity and mortality. In our study, the percentage of patients reaching the target INR was found to be 42%. This percentage is very low, and in order to increase this rate, it is necessary to increase patient awareness, increase the frequency of follow-up of patients and develop more effective follow-up strategies. Upper extremity deep vein thrombosis (UEDVT) is extremely rare in children and adolescents. Paget - Schroetter Syndrome (PSS) is the primary, spontaneous thrombosis of the subclavian venous (SV) axillary tract. Herein, we report on PSS in two children who did regular body building exercises. 16-year-old two male patients admitted with complaints of swelling, coldness and pain on the right upper extremity. Their recent history disclosed that they have been doing advanced body building exercises for the last year. Physical examination revealed a difference of 4 cm and 5 cm in the diameter of each arm, as well as coldness and venous engourgement in the upper extremities. An acute thrombus was present in the proximal right SV lumen and no flow was detected on upper extremity venous doppler ultrasaund. Surgical treatment was performed in addition to medical thrombosis treatment. Early diagnosis and treatment of PSS is important for better outcomes. PSS should be considered in young patients with UEDVT, especially those with a history of vigorious exercise. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Thrombophilia encompasses a group of inherited or acquired disorders that predispose individuals to thrombotic events. The identification of these individuals is essential to guide appropriate management strategies and reduce the risk of complications and the associated increased healthcare costs and mortality. Venous thromboembolism (VTE), encompassing deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), represents a major global health concern due to its substantial morbidity and mortality rates. General practitioners (GPs) play a vital role in the assessment and initial screening of patients for thrombophilia, as they perform their activities at the entrance of the health care system - in primary care. In addition, they serve a heterogeneous group of patients - from newborns to pregnant women and adults, knowing their risk factors and underlying diseases well. In general practice, an enduring doctor-patient relationship is usually established and the medical history is documented and well known, making it possible to carry out screening initiated in general practice with great success. The most common genetic defects that lead to thrombophilia are Factor V Leiden mutation, Prothrombin gene mutation, Protein C deficiency, Protein S deficiency, Antithrombin deficiency. Multiple acquired conditions have also been linked with an increased predisposition towards VTE development, including oral contraceptive use, hormone replacement therapy (HRT), pregnancy, postpartum period and malignancy. Objective: Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune disease. Although susceptibility to thrombosis in celiac patients has been reported in case studies, the cause is not yet known. PAI-1 inhibits fibrinolysis. In this study, the association between celiac disease and PAI-1 4G/5G polymorphism was investigated among celiac patients whose disease were confirmed by intestinal biopsy and healthy controls. Methods: Biopsy-diagnosed celiac patients (n=56) and healthy controls (n=52) were included in the study. PCR-RFLP method was used for PAI-1 genotyping and the results were compared according to statistical significance. Results: The PAI-1 4G allele associated with thrombotic risk and inflammation was found to be higher than the 5G allele in cases (0.63 and 0.36, respectively, p=0.054). When the age at diagnosis was compared according to the PAI-1 variants, no significant difference was found (p=0.3). Although the genotype frequencies were similar in 4G/4G patients and controls, the 5G/5G genotype, known as the protective genotype, was found to be higher in controls (35% and 18%). Conclusion: In our study, the 4G allele of PAI-1, which plays a role in the susceptibility to thrombosis, was observed more frequently in celiac patients compared to the control group. Studying genetic markers of thrombosis in celiac patients is important for individual prophylaxis.

Introduction: Thrombosis is less common in childhood compared to adults and is usually acquired. Here, we present a patient who had recurrent thrombosis in different organs and was diagnosed with lupus secondary antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) when the lupus anticoagulant test was positive in the follow- up, which we treated quickly and effectively considering possible catastrophic prognosis due to kidney involvement in the same week. Case Report: Fifteen-year-old girl who presented to the emergency department with complaints of sensitivity, pain, and swelling in her left leg. Her medical history revealed recurrent thrombosis attacks and development of mental retardation after a seizure at around the age of three, and no underlying disease had been identified to date. Her family history revealed that her aunt had complained of hand swelling after cold exposure. No significant finding was detected in her thrombophilia panel. A thrombophilia panel was conducted, but no significant findings were detected. Due to a positive lupus anticoagulant test, the patient was diagnosed with APS. The diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus was also considered secondary to APS after positive results for anti-nuclear antibody (ANA) and dsDNA tests. Due to the recurrent thrombosis attacks and kidney involvement, a possible catastrophic outcome was considered. In addition to the on going heparin, warfarin, and aspirin therapy, high-dose steroids, cyclophosphamide, intravenous immunoglobulin, and 5 sessions of plasmapheresis were administered, and all treatments were met with a positive response. Conclusion: In this case presentation, we wanted to emphasize that despite the difficulties in the differential diagnosis of thrombosis in children and especially the diagnosis of catastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome (CAPS), prompt and effective treatment can be life-saving. Aim: The objective of this study was to determine the patient characteristics and clinical outcomes of COVID-19 patients who experienced a thromboembolic event (TEE) and the frequency of this complication. Materials and Methods: Between January 2020 and December 2021, all the patients with positive COVID-19 PCR test results were enrolled in this study. The data of the cases that developed TEE with the diagnosis of COVID-19 were evaluated retrospectively. Results: During the study period, a total of 2,845 patients were hospitalized with a diagnosis of COVID-19. Among this group, 96 patients (3.37%) had TEE associated with COVID-19. The mean age was 63.76 ±13.85 years (range: 28-80 years), with 46 males (4.92%) and 50 females (52.08%). Of these patients, 46 (47.92%) had severe COVID-19 and 50 (52.08%) had only mild respiratory symptoms. Patients in the severe COVID-19 group were older, but there was no statistical significance between the groups. The peripheral venous disease was more common in the mild COVID-19 group while the peripheral arterial disease was more common in the severe COVID-19 group. CRP, uric acid, troponin, creatinine, D-dimer, and leukocyte levels were higher in severe COVID-19 patients with TEE (p<0.05). 81 of 96 patients (84.37%) had the peripheral venous disease, 5 of 96 patients (5.2%) had peripheral arterial disease and 11 of 96 patients (11.45%) had a pulmonary embolism. One patient (1.04%) had both peripheral venous disease and pulmonary embolism. The overall mortality rate was 6.25% (6/96). Conclusions: The thrombotic process associated with COVID-19 affects venous structures more frequently than arteries. Given the significant risk observed for TEE in COVID-19, diagnostic imaging for TEE should be considered with a high degree of clinical suspicion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Left ventricular (LV) thrombus is a serious complication of acute myocardial infarction (MI). In this study, the effect of biochemical resistance to antiplatelet agents used after ST elevation MI on LV thrombus development was investigated. Material and Methods: Patients who were diagnosed with anterior MI and undergone primary percutaneous coronary intervention were included in this study. The patients were divided into two groups: Patients with thrombus (Group 1) and the patients without thrombus (Group 2). PFA-100 platelet analyzer was used to measure platelet reactivity. Clopidogrel resistance was defined as collagen adenosine 5-diphosphate closure time (COLL/ADP CT) <120 seconds and acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) resistance was defined as collagen epinephrine closure time (COLL/EPI CT) <180 seconds. Group 1 and Group 2 were compared with ASA and clopidogrel resistance. Results: The mean CT for COLL/EPI was similar in two groups (Group 1: 221.4±64.8 sec, Group 2: 217.7±70.2 sec; p=0.81). ASA resistance was detected in 24 (26.7%) patients in the whole patient group. There was no difference between the two groups in terms of ASA resistance [8 patients (26.7%) in Group 1, 16 patients (26.7%) in Group 2; p=1.0]. The mean closure times for COLL/ADP were similar in two groups (Group 1: 145.9±63.9 sec, Group 2: 155.9±63.9 sec; p=0.48). Clopidogrel resistance was detected in 27 (30%) patients in the whole patient group. There was no difference between two groups in terms of clopidogrel resistance [9 (30%) patients in Group 1, 18 (30%) patients in Group 2; p=1.0]. There was no difference between two groups in patients with both clopidogrel and aspirin resistance. Conclusion: In vivo resistance to dual antiplatelet therapy does not appear to be an effective mechanism in the development of LV thrombus after MI. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Amaç: Bu çalışmada son dönem böbrek yetmezliği hastalarına takılan tünelli kalıcı hemodiyaliz kateterlerinin uzun dönem etkinliğinin ve kateter disfonksiyonuna yol açan komplikasyonların değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır.Gereç ve Yöntem: Son dönem böbrek yetmezliği tanılı 40 hastaya iki yıllık çalışma süresinde ultrasonografi ve floroskopi eşliğinde toplam 68 adet kalıcı hemodiyaliz kateteri takıldı. Erken ve geç dönemde ortaya çıkan komplikasyonlar retrospektif olarak değerlendirildi. Ortalama primer, sekonder ve total kateter ömürleri hesaplandı.Bulgular: Yaşları 20 ile 80 arasında (ortalama 58,2) değişen 40 hastanın 28'i kadın (%70), 12'si erkekti (%30). Uzun dönem komplikasyonlar toplam 58 kez saptandı (1000 kateter gününde 5.2 kez). Kateter trombozu, 10 hastada toplam 28 kez (2.5/1000 kateter günü), kateter bağımlı sepsis 14 hastada toplam 14 kez (1.25/1000 kateter günü), kateterin spontan yerinden çıkması 3 hastada toplam 3 kez (0.27/1000 kateter günü), kateter giriş yerinden kanama 6 hastada toplam 7 kez (0.63/1000 kateter günü), yetersiz kan akımı 3 hastada toplam 3 kez (0.27/1000 kateter günü) saptandı. Buna göre ortalama primer kateter ömrü 186 gün, sekonder kateter ömrü 133 gün ve genel kateter ömrü 164 gün olarak hesaplandı. Sonuç: Kronik hemodiyalizde nativ arteriovenöz (AV) fistül günümüzde en ideal vasküler girişim yoludur. Çeşitli nedenlerle AV fistül kullanamayan hastalarda tünelli kalıcı hemodiyaliz kateterleri iyi bir alternatiftir.

Objective: Thrombosis of umbilical artery is a rare condition. The diagnosis is established commonly in the third trimester after detection of fetal distress or intrauterine growth retardation, or could be established after deliver]·'. Also, the management of the condition is conflicting after the diagnosis. Case: Here we reported an umbilical artery thrombosis case that was diagnosed in the second trimester after referral for an umbilical cord cyst. After the diagnosis at 24th week of pregnancy, she had been followed up weekly. She had been delivered electively at the 34th week of pregnancy' uneventfully. The diagnosis was confirmed postnatally. Conclusion: The prenatal diagnosis of umbilical arterial thrombosis is so important to prevent perinatal morbidity. When umbilical cord cysts are detected, further evaluation is required in terms of umbilical artery thrombosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The ST- elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), a serious health care problem, is commonly a thrombotic complication of coronary artery disease. We compare the STEMI patients and control group in terms of the possible causes of inherited thrombophilia including FactorV Cambridge G1091C, FactorV Leiden G1691A, MTHFRC677T, MTHFR A1298C, FactorII G20210A, Factor XIII (V34L), PAI-1, FGB, ITGB3, APOB, FVHR2, ACE gene variants. Methods: Fifty-three patients with STEMI and 47 individuals without diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome were included in the study. Percutaneous coronary intervention was performed for patients with STEMI. Echocardiography was performed and inherited thrombophilia genes were evaluated in all subjects. Results: The MTHFR A1298C, Factor XIII (V34L), ITGB, ACE and homozygous or compound heterozygous gene varations of inherited thrombophilia are significantly related with STEMI (p<0.05). Also significantly higher MTHFR A1298C, FactorV Leiden G1691A, PAI and ACE gene variations in MI patients who were smokers; Factor XIII (V34L), PAI and ACE gene variations in MI patients with HT; PAI and ACE gene variation in MI patients with FH and PAI gene variations in MI patients with HL were detected when compared with the control groups with all of the same risk factors (p<0.05). Objectives: : Mean platelet volume (MPV) is an index of platelet activation. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the relationship between in patients with COPD and cardiovasculary disease who present to chest diseases department and MPV. Materials and Methods: Smoker 535 (71.80%) and non-smoker, 210 (28.20%) subjects were compared for MPV and other parameters. Accordingly, patients with and without COPD were compared in terms of MPV and other parameters. Results: The levels of white blood cells (Wbc), hemoglobin (Hgb) and hematocrit (Htc) in smokers were statistically significantly higher than non-smokers (p<0.001). The level of MPV in smokers was statistically higher than non-smokers [the levels of MPV were, 10.10 (8-14.20), 9.60 (6.40-11.80),respectively p<0.001]. There were 106 cases of COPD among smokers. The differences in levels of platelets and MPV between patients with COPD and nonsmoker patients without COPD were [10.20 (8.30-14), 9.60 (6.40-11.80), respectively p=0.001] statistically significant. Also, MPV levels of COPD patients with cardiovascular comorbidities (CVC) were higher than that of the patients without CVC. Conclusion: In this study, higher MPV and higher platelet values have been shown in smokers and COPD patients compared with non- smokers. As a result, consider that high MPV levels may increase the tendency to thrombosis, with COPD. However, further larger studies are warranted about the relationship of COPD with MPV and CVC. Typhoid fever is a systemic infection caused by Salmonella typhi. It is a disease caused by food and water sources and is an important public health problem in developing countries. Fever, flu-like symptoms, headache, cough, malaise, nausea and myalgia are the most common symptoms. Venous thrombosis often occurs in the fourth week of the disease and was a common complication before the antibiotic era. Background: Invasive procedures are increasingly used in neonatal intensive care units. Umbilical catheters are frequently attached to preterm babies. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship and risk factors of umbilical catheters inserted in our clinic with portal vein thrombosis (PVT). Materials and Methods: We retrospectively evaluated preterm infants with a gestational age of 32 weeks and below, who had a umbilical vein catheter (UVC) inserted in our neonatal intensive care unit between 01 October 2017 and 31 December 2018, and who had a catheter inserted for at least 6 hours. UVC inserted cases were evaluated for portal venous doppler ultrasonograpy (USG) examination before discharge. Perinatal risk factors and properties related to catheter were evaluated. Results: A total of 142 patients underwent UVC insertion. Doppler USG results of 118 patients were achieved. In 15 (9.9%) cases, portal vein thrombosis was detected by doppler USG. None of the patients with PVT had clinical findings. The mean gestational age and birth weight were lower in patients with PVT. Thrombosis was detected in the left branch of portal vein in 14 patients and thrombosis in the main portal vein in one patient. In a patient with PVT, gestational diabetes was present in the mother. Patients with PVT had higher rates of late neonatal sepsis and bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and the length of hospitalization was longer. In this group, the low placement rate of the catheter was higher, and the length of catheter stay was longer than other group. Conclusions: Umbilical vein catheterization is an important risk factor for the development of PVT. Especially low birth weight infants with UVC should be evaluated with portal doppler USG for PVT. Objective: Cardiac catheterization is one of the basic procedures applied in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Development of thrombosis is a serious complication of catheterization. In this study, the frequency and the factors affecting the development of arterial thrombosis were prospectively evaluated in neonates who were subjected to diagnostic or interventional cardiac catheterization. Methods: Twenty newborns that received femoral artery catheterization within 6-month period were enrolled in this study. Blood samples were taken for complete blood count, prothrombin, activated partial thromboplastin time, INR ratio and mutations of factorV Leiden, prothrombin 20210A, methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase C667T and A1298 before the procedure. 100 U/kg bolus of heparin was infused during catheterization. 28 U/kg/hour infusion of heparin was given to the patients with clinically suspected thrombosis during first few hours after catheterization. Doppler ultrasonography was performed in all patients within 6 hours after catheterization. Results: The gestational age of patients ranged from 31 to 40 weeks (median 39). Mean birth weight was 2996 ± 589 (1880-4000 gr). Arterial thrombosis was detected in 10 patients by Doppler USG. On development of arterial thrombosis, patient age, gender, diagnosis, treatments, platelet count, hemoglobin, prothrombin and activated partial thromboplastin time values, FactorV Leiden, prothrombin 20210A, methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase C667T and A1298 mutations were found as not impacting (p>0.05). Those who were found to have thrombosis in Doppler ultrasonography had lower INR levels compared to others (p= 0.023). Conclusions: The rate of femoral arterial thrombosis in newborns after catheterization detected by Doppler ultrasonography was 50% in this study. Our data suggest that early clinical assessment for the diagnosis of thrombosis may be misleading but Doppler ultrasonography may be helpful early detection. Further studies are needed to prediction appropriate drugs and/or doses for prevention of thrombosis after arterial catheterization in newborns. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Olanzapine is an atypical antipsychotic drug, commonly used in the management of psychotic symptoms in patients with schizoprenia and bipolar affective disorder. Deep venous thrombosis is a manifestation of venous thromboembolism. It is very well known that use of antipsychotic drugs increase the risk of thrombosis in a patient with schizophrenia. It has been reported in many studies the effects of olanzapine on thrombosis but there isn’t any report about the effect of olanzapine on international normalized ratio (INR). in the medical literature. In this paper, a patient with schizophrenia and also family history of deep venous thrombosis who emerged deep venous thrombosis after being started on olanzapine treatment and effect of olanzapine treatment on INR has been reported.

Purpose: Thrombosis in children is a multifactorial disorder associated with both genetic and acquired factors. Idiopathic thrombosis is a rare condition. This study aimed to examine the etiology and risk factors of thrombosis in pediatric patients followed at Baskent University Adana Teaching and Research Center, a reference hospital in the southern part of Turkey.Material and Methods: This study included a sample of 49 pediatric patients who were retrospectively evaluated. The patient records were examined retrospectively in terms of age at diagnosis with thrombosis, gender, family history of thrombosis, localization of thrombosis, underlying primary disease and presence of catheter, as well as indicators of genetic risk factors. Results: The number of children presenting to our clinic during the study period was 10358. The incidence of thrombosis was calculated as 49 cases in 10358 children. The median age of the patients was 5.1 years (ranging from 0 to 17.2 years), and there were 32 (65.3%) males. In the analysis of the genetic factors causing susceptibility to primary thrombosis, only a portion of the patients were studied for genetic mutations. Among these, 5 patients showed factor V Leiden mutation, 13 patients MTHFR 1298C mutation, and 18 patients MTHFR 677CT mutation. Seven patients were found have a combination of multiple mutations. When we investigated any possible correlation between high lipoprotein (a) levels and the distribution of mutations, we found that 7 patients with mutations had normal levels of high lipoprotein (a), while other 10 patients with mutations were found to have elevated levels of lipoprotein (a).Conclusion: We conclude and strongly emphasize that lipoprotein (a) elevation is one of the important genetic risk factors, which might prove a major risk indicator, as valuable as other mutation screening tests performed by molecular genetics

Korpus kavernozum trombozu nadir görülen bir durumdur.Otuz yaşında bir orak hücreli anemi hastası priapizm şikayeti ile kliniğimize başvurdu. Hastaya korpus kavernozum aspirasyonu ve exchange transfüzyon uygulandı. Hastanın ağrılı ereksiyonu geriledi ancak ağrısı düzelmedi. Hastada korpus kavernozum trombozu saptandı ve sistemik antikoagülasyon tedavisi sonrası hastanın ağrısı düzeldi. Özellikle konvansiyonel tedavi yöntemleri ile şikayetleri devam eden hastalarda korpus kavernozum trombozu akılda tutulmalıdır.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has implications for the cardiovascular system. The host receptor through which COVID-19 enters cells to trigger infection is angiotensin converting enzyme-2 (ACE-2). ACE-2 is expressed in alveolar epithelial cells, intestinal alveolar epithelial cells, arterial and veneous endothelial cells and smooth muscle cells. In addition to arterial and venous thrombotic complications presenting as acute coronary syndromes and venous thromboembolism, myocarditis plays an important role in patients with acute heart failure. Moreover, arrhythmias has been reported to complicate the course of COVID-19 including potential pro-arrhythmic effects of medical treatment of COVID-19 and associated diseases. Purpose:The aim of this study was to assess long-term efficacyy of tunnelled permanenThemodialysis catheters in end stage renal insufficiency patients and to detect complications which result in catheter dysfunction. Materials and Methods: We inserted 68 permanent catheters to 40 end stage renal insufficiency patients (28 female, 1 0 m ale; m ean a ge 5 8,2 years, r ange 2 0-80 years) under the guidance of ultrasonography and fluoroscopy in the study period of two years. We evaluated catheter related complications retrospectively and calculated survival of hemodialysis catheters. Results: We determined 58 long term complications (5.2 times in 1000 catheter days) which were; 28 cases of catheter thrombosis in 10 patients (2.5/1000 days), 14 cases of catheter related sepsis in 14 patients (1.25/1000 days), 3 cases of spontaneous extrusion of catheter in 3 patients (0.27/1000 days), 7 cases of bleeding at catheter insertion site in 6 patients (0.63/1000 days), 3 cases of inadequate blood flow in 3 patients (0.27/1000 days). The mean survival of catheters were 186 days, 133 days and 164 days in primary, secondary and in total respectively. Conclusion: The native arteriovenous (AV) fistulas are the best procedure of vascular access in chronic hemodialysis. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the levels of ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) in people with essential thrombocytosis (ET). Methods: A total of 30 patients with ET patient group and 30 volunteers with no known disease control group (C group) were included in this study after the approval of ethics committee and written informed consent was obtained. Patients with a history of major thrombosis were excluded. IMA levels and independent variables were investigated and effects on thrombosis susceptibility were also studied. In addition to that; comorbid disease state, drug use and used drugs group were questioned in patient group and effects of them on IMA levels were studied. Results: In our study, when ET patient group and C group were compared, the mean serum IMA levels in ET patient group and C group was detected as 0,6726 (0,527-0,776) Absorbans Unite (ABSU) and 0,4342 (0,346-0,612) ABSU respectively and in ET patient group was significantly higher than C group (p<0,001). The glucose, total cholesterol and triglyceride values were significantly higher in ET patient group (p= 0,026, p= 0,058, p= 0,004, respectively). There is a correlation between IMA concentration and age (p= 0,042). Conclusions: In our study IMA levels were found significantly high in ET patient group, this supports increased risk of thrombosis in ET. The difference of metabolic parameters between the ET patient group and C group can be explained by insulin resistance and atherosclerosis background caused by chronic inflammation. Factor XI (FXI) is a haemostatic plasma glycoprotein which circulates as a serine protease zymogen of activated FXI. We present an example of a patient with severe FXI deficiency who is not protected against thrombosis and developed a spontaneous ischaemic stroke at a very early age.
