Purpose: An assessment of the condition of companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, operating in the 'Transport and Logistics' sector, taking into account liquidity and profitability indicators. Design/methodology/approach: The study was carried out using ratio analysis in the areas of liquidity and profitability. Consolidated financial data obtained through the Notoria Serwis database was used. In assessing the company's liquidity situation, ratios in static terms were used, such as the current liquidity ratio, the accelerated liquidity ratio, and the immediate liquidity ratio. The return on equity and the return on assets were used to examine the profitability area. Findings: The results showed that the companies surveyed between 2015 and 2021, were characterised by a negative liquidity situation. This represents a significant problem, especially given the range of challenges facing companies today. The best situation in the period under study was characterised by the company Stalexport Autostrady S.A included in the sub-sector "transport and logistics: other". Slightly better results of the companies in the subsectors under consideration were recorded in the area of profitability, both equity and assets. Originality/value:. The assessment of the financial situation in the perspective of the last few years of business entities' activities is a valuable source of information for both theory and practice, as it allows the identification of areas requiring corrective action on the part of the analysed entities. This is important especially in the context of a number of challenges facing businesses today and adapting to the changing socioeconomic environment (e.g. the resilience of business entities to crisis situations). It is also possible to mention necessary actions aimed at preserving the principles of sustainable development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The significance of this study is derived from instability situations faced by various markets, particularly in the transport and logistics sectors, and the necessity to ascertain methods for their future advancement. The aim of this paper is to determine transformative modifications in the fundamental principles of strategic management for companies engaged in transport and logistics markets. In the course of the research, various methods were employed, including generalization, system analysis, abstract-logical method, systemic approach, analysis and synthesis method, graphical method, induction, deduction, comparison and systematization method, expert analysis, and selective observations. As a result, the authors identified the prerequisites for the transformation of unique and oversized air carriers into 3PL (Third-Party Logistics) operators, which are divided into the following blocks: needs, threats and risks, and product uniqueness. Today there is a growing interest in the problems of assessing the impact of greenhouse gases on the environment. Modern methods for estimating the volume of CO2 emissions from cargo transportation processes are inaccurate. The study aims to develop a methodology for calculating and estimating the volume of CO2 emissions generated by rail transport during the transportation of goods and its subsequent validation. Research methods – analysis of Russian and international regulatory documents, scientific and practical methodological approaches to determine the volume of CO2 emissions for rail transport. It is substantiated that the actual methodological approach should consider direct emissions, indirect emissions and specific parameters: carbon intensity and cargo intensity, mass of transported cargo. The result of study is a methodology for calculating the volume of CO2 emissions, considering the specifics of freight transportation on railway transport and accounting for direct and indirect CO2 emissions. An example of calculating the volume of CO2 emissions during the transportation of building materials by rail between St. Petersburg and Murmansk is given. The proposed methodology makes it possible to include the amount of estimated CO2 emissions in the service, which will facilitate the introduction of "green" certificates for customers.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ongoing war and the implementation of the so-called Mobility Package there are profound changes taking place in the Polish LSP sector. The competitive struggle on the market is intensifying, and it mobilizes the management to diagnose the condition of companies with the use of effective comparative tools. This article aims to present the conclusions of the study of 46 entities on the Polish LSP market. It uses an original, multi-faceted evaluation method. The authors hope to popularize this method for evaluating LSPs by making it cyclical. The comparative evaluation of LSPs was carried out with the use of economic (index) and statistical analysis tools. A model of rank correlation was used for the values of all variables (ten economic parameters and one greening parameter). LSPs were grouped up based on the average value of the economic variables and according to investment attractiveness and then clustered. Sets of the most correlated characteristics in the assessment of the LSPs were developed based on the k-means method and the Spearman coefficient. A collective ranking of LSPs has been prepared. This paper investigates the adoption status of lean manufacturing (LM) in the transport and logistics sector of Thailand. A survey questionnaire was design, validated and distributed among Thai transport and logistics companies. In total, 120 useable responses were received and analysed using descriptive statistics. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of LM is relatively high, with PDCA, 5S and root cause analysis being the most implemented LM approaches and tools. However, the LM's implementation was found to be mainly contained within individual departments or improvement projects, rather than being a company's wide strategy. Main challenges to LM implementation included: organisational structure of companies, misalignment between goals of individuals and their companies, and lack of sustainment of a lean culture. Main benefits were the ability to identify and reduce waste, increased productivity and better organisation of workstations. On the other hand, lack of understanding, knowledge and expertise in LM were the main reasons for not implementing it, plus the use of technology-based tools instead of LM. Non-LM companies showed interest in adopting LM in the future, with JIT, Kaizen and Six Sigma being the most likely to implement. This study is among the very first of its kind. It offers academics, researchers and practitioners interested in LM and/or the transport and logistics sector with some initial evidence of the adoption of LM in this industrial sector of Thailand. During the last quarter of 2009, Poland has entered a phase of economic growth. Presently, despite the emerging financial problems in the EU zone, positive market sig-nals can still be observed in Poland, for example increase in domestic and external de-mand, incoming orders in the industry sector and production capacity in companies. The-se changes enhance growth of production in the industry and construction sectors, which are perceived as key sectors for generating demand for transport services. Therefore the lack of market signals that indicate economic slowdown means that the conditions for transport and logistics sector development in Poland are not expected to deteriorate. The key threat to the stability of economic growth in Poland, and in consequence to transport and logistics companies, is the excess debt of public finance sector.

ABSTRACT Sustainability as part of the development of companies' business strategies is gaining in importance. Due to its impact on the environment, this is particularly essential for companies of the transport and logistics sector. This paper explores several factors that influence the environmental behaviour of transport and logistics companies in Austria. It discusses the importance of the economic impact on environmental management decision in detail and analyses the sector's specific characteristics in terms of environmental behavior. A case-based approach involving multiple field studies with face-to-face expert interviews and secondary data analysis was used to evaluate environmental performance and specific practices. Using selected cases, we will demonstrate how environmental measures contribute to overall business performance and draw general conclusions regarding the transport and logistics sector. Furthermore, suggestions are given as to how the government can further support transport and logistics companies in this regard. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd and ERP Environment. The article analyzes the logistics services market of the CIS countries, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Georgia on the basis of the LPI for 2011 and the LPI for 2013. The countries under analysis were divided into 3 groups depending on the logistics services market development. Due to the experts’ survey the strengths and weaknesses of the CIS countries, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Georgia logistics systems were revealed, the influence of the external environment factors was analyzed, as a result the matrix of the transport-logistics sphere condition of the countries under analysis was built. The authors analyzed the groups of the countries depending on the logistics sphere development.
