The acceptability of technology is an essential factor to consider, particularly in frontier areas that encounter challenges related to availability and limited educational resources. This study aims to evaluate the acceptance of physics learning tools in a virtual laboratory (V-Lab) platform, utilizing the POGIL strategy, referred to as the Physics Funbased mobile application. Mobile learning refers to the learning process carried out through mobile devices such as smartphones. The implementation took place at a senior high school located in West Papua Province, one of Indonesia's frontier areas, with 136 students participating. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) were employed in this quantitative study. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was implemented for data analysis. The findings indicated that Attitude (ATT) and Behavioral Intention (BI) were significantly influenced by Perceived Ease of Use (PEU) and Subjective Norm (SN), respectively, while Perceived Usefulness (PU) did not have a direct effect on ATT. As a result, to enhance the acceptance of technology, teachers and technology developers should prioritize enhancing ease of use and reinforcing social factors. This should be done with a particular emphasis on the social benefits and simple accessibility of technology in the learning process, particularly in frontier areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Despite the continuous upsurge in the use of social networks by consumers and marketers, the empirical research investigating their economic value in different cultures still lags. This study develops an extended Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) model that includes trust in the social network community, perceived enjoyment, and Hofstede's cultural factors (masculinity/femininity, power distance, individualism/collectivism, and long-term objectives). Using survey methodology across three countries (Kuwait, Tunisia, and Italy), data is analyzed using a structural equation model. The results of this study empirically extended the TRA model by including the significant impact of perceived enjoyment and attitude on the use of Facebook across different cultures. Trust in the social network community and its impact on the use of Facebook was only significant in Arab culture and not European culture. Hofstede's factors moderate the relationship between subjective norms and usage of Facebook, and their impact is varies across different cultures. The study highlights the differential impact of cultures on social network use and the importance of understanding the type of culture the business is targeting. Commercial organizations should guide their marketing efforts to manage their marketing differently across cultures to enhance their consumer engagement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The rate of development of educational technologies has implications not only for the technical capacity of an educational institution to provide hardware and software solutions for the existing learning environment, but also for pedagogical practices that are influenced by stakeholders' acceptance of new technologies. Effective use of emerging technologies requires training future and actual teachers with professional digital literacy skills that provide pathways for connecting best educational practices with modern digital technology-based enhancements to increase the quality of learning environment through the integration of educational technologies, especially in terms of educational agents' perceptions of the effectiveness of technology in delivering educational content and acquiring knowledge. In studies on technology acceptance, the theory of reasoned action (TRA) and the technology acceptance model (TAM) are commonly used to explore the factors that affect users’ intentions to adopt educational technology and less so to study the motivations of pre-service or/and in-service teachers for accepting and integrating emerging technologies into pedagogical practices. This study addresses TRA and TAM to design a framework built on constructs as perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, subjective norms, attitude toward use, behavioral intention, intention to use for explaining or predicting students and teachers' intentions to adopt and use emerging technologies. Despite a plentiful supply of organic food in emerging economies, consumers are slow to adopt sustainable organic food behaviors. India is one of the top five nations in the world in terms of the total amount of agricultural land that is certified as organic, but the domestic organic consumption in the country itself is really sparse. Using the framework of the theory of reasoned action, this investigation explores how customers' perceived values (health and hedonic values) influence their attitude toward purchasing organic food. Also, it elaborates on the moderating effect of media exposure to food safety issues to know its strength in the attitude–intention relationship. This research utilized PLS-SEM to analyze the structural relationships among the constructs, with 202 responses from consumers in India. The study found the strongest influence of hedonic value over health value and subjective norms on the green purchase attitude of consumers. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that investigated the moderating effect of media exposure on food safety issues on consumers' attitude–intention relationship in a developing nation context. The study highlighted that people who have regularly been exposed to food safety related issues around them are more willing to buy organic food. Thus, it contributes to a more robust attitude–intention relationship among customers toward the purchase of organic food. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this groundbreaking study, we explore the behavioral determinants critical to the acceptance and effective utilization of Jordan's digital tax platform among taxpayers. Utilizing an unprecedented combination of frameworks from the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), Social Capital Theory (SCT), and Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA), this study pioneers a unique integrated approach. Data gathered through questionnaires across Jordan's multiple governorates lay the groundwork for this analysis. Employing the sophisticated Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) within SPSS, our results uncover the profound impact of both social factors (trust, subjective norms) and technological attributes (perceived ease, utility), as conceptualized in TAM, SCT, and TRA. This research is distinct in its focus on Jordan, providing new insights into the nexus of tax compliance and technology adoption, a relatively uncharted area in existing literature. - Abstract
A fine-grained, flexible frequency grid of elastic optical transmission and space division multiplexing (SDM) in conjunction with spectrally efficient modulations is an ideal solution for the impending capacity crunch. The routing, modulation, core, and spectrum assignment (RMCSA) problem is an important lightpath resource assignment problem in SDM elastic optical networks (SDM-EONs). Intercore Crosstalk (XT) degrades the quality of parallel transmissions on adjacent cores, and the RMCSA algorithm must satisfy XT requirements while optimizing network performance. There is an indirect trade-off between spectrum utilization and XT tolerance; while higher modulations are more spectrum-efficient, they are also less tolerant of XT because they allow fewer connections between neighboring cores on the overlapping spectrum. In the presence of XT, the Tridental Resource Assignment algorithm (TRA) has been shown to optimally assign resources in multicore fiber networks. Using the tridental coefficient (TC), this algorithm strikes a balance between spectrum utilization and XT. However, TRA is computationally expensive because TC is calculated for all the possible candidate resource sets for each lightpath request. In this paper, we demonstrate that acceptable or better TRA performance can be achieved while reducing computational overhead than traditional TRA. We achieve that using different stages of offline optimization, required only once. We demonstrate that by using tailored weights in TC, the performance of TRA can be enhanced further. We observe that acceptable TRA performance can be achieved with as low as 40% of the total computations and that adjusting weights reduces the bandwidth blocking of TRA, which is already performing better than the baseline algorithms, by approximately two orders of magnitude. The new era of technologies represented by artificial intelligence is profoundly reconstructing the field of education. The integration of emerging technologies in intelligent teaching provides new approaches for improving teaching effectiveness and enriching learning experiences. Today, we know little about students' participation in intelligent teaching with the help of artificial intelligence. In this study, we investigated the mechanism of students' involvement in intelligent teaching. We designed a questionnaire for the confirmatory model of the participation of intelligent teaching through literature research and content analysis. After modeling and empirical analysis with the help of partial least structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) software (SmartPLS 3.0), we found that: satisfaction, university support, perceived enjoyment, and interactive rewards all indirectly affect intelligent teaching participation through mediating variables (i.e., participation intention and interactivity); participation intention and interactivity directly and positively affect intelligent teaching participation; artificial intelligence usefulness positively moderates the relationships between the two mediating variables (participation intention, interactivity) and intelligent teaching participation. Based on the results of the data analysis, this study offered corresponding optimization strategies: improving students' participation experience in intelligent teaching through using the new technology "artificial intelligence"; implementing the teaching philosophy of "teaching for learning, teaching for fun"; applying "student-oriented" approaches to improve the participation intention. The aim is to make education in the future more diverse, equitable, and high-quality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The improvement of the quality and efficiency of vehicle wireless network data transmission is always a key concern in the Internet of Vehicles (IoV). Routing transmission solved the limitation of transmission distance to a certain extent. Traditional routing algorithm cannot adapt to complex traffic environment, resulting in low transmission efficiency. In order to improve the transmission success rate and quality of vehicle network routing transmission, make the routing algorithm more suitable for complex traffic environment, and reduce transmission power consumption to improve energy efficiency, a comprehensive optimized routing transmission algorithm is proposed. Based on the routing transmission algorithm, an optimization algorithm based on road condition, vehicle status and network performance is proposed to improve the success rate of routing transmission in the IoV. Relative distance difference and density are used as decision-making indicators to measure Road Side Unit (RSU) assisted transmission. And the Ambient backscatter communication (AmBC) technology and energy collection are used to reduce the energy consumption of routing relay transmission. An energy collection optimization algorithm is proposed to optimize the energy efficiency of AmBC and improve the energy efficiency of transmission. Simulation results show that the proposed routing optimization algorithm can effectively improve the success rate of packet transmission in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs), and the AmBC optimization algorithm an effectively reduce energy consumption in the transmission process. The proposed optimization algorithm achieves comprehensive optimization of routing transmission performance and energy efficiency. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Metabolism in males and females is distinct. Differences are usually linked to sexual reproduction, with circulating signals (e.g. hormones) playing major roles. In contrast, sex differences prior to sexual maturity and intrinsic to individual metabolic tissues are less understood. We analyzed Drosophila melanogaster larvae and find that males store more fat than females, the opposite of the sexual dimorphism in adults. We show that metabolic differences are intrinsic to the major fat storage tissue, including many differences in the expression of metabolic genes. Our previous work identified fat storage roles for Spenito (Nito), a conserved RNA-binding protein and regulator of sex determination. Nito knockdown specifically in the fat storage tissue abolished fat differences between males and females. We further show that Nito is required for sex-specific expression of the master regulator of sex determination, Sex-lethal (Sxl). “Feminization” of fat storage cells via tissue-specific overexpression of a Sxl target gene made larvae lean, reduced the fat differences between males and females, and induced female-like metabolic gene expression. Altogether, this study supports a model in which Nito autonomously controls sexual dimorphisms and differential expression of metabolic genes in fat cells in part through its regulation of the sex determination pathway. As ecological problems are rapidly expanding, they bring with them increasingly threatening and drastic complications. On the other hand, the economic benefits of plastic products have created a dilemma for consumers and business owners. Since one of the main channels for satisfying daily needs is online shopping and social media, and the market share of electronic commerce is growing inexorably compared to traditional brick-and-mortar methods, it would be useful to understand the factors related to consumer behavior on these platforms in order to resolve environmental issues. This research attempts to identify the factors affecting green consumer purchase decisions on social commerce platforms. A questionnaire was designed based on data gathered using bibliographic methods, and collected data from 532 valid samples was analyzed using SmartPLS software. According to the findings, subjective norms such as social network inference is positively correlated to green product attractiveness. In addition, the results show that personality traits and green product attractiveness are positively correlated; moreover, the results show that there is a positive relation between green advertising and green product attractiveness. It is believed that the outcomes of this research will contribute to and be beneficial for manufacturers and businesses by proposing a new model for green marketing and green product awareness.

The present research investigates brand love for luxury cars and extends the knowledge on brand love by testing and validating psychographic consumer qualities, including emotional stability. Data for the present research study was collected through an online survey administered to 700 respondents. A total of 426 responses were received, and after deleting 26 unfilled responses, the total sample size came to 400 responses. In the first stage, the data were tested for the construct reliability. After testing the composite reliability of constructs, convergent validity, and discriminant validity was estimated. AMOS 26 was employed for path analysis which revealed the robustness of the conceptual model. Using Model 1 and Model 4 in the PROCESS macro in SPSS Version 26, the present study performed mediation and moderation analysis. The results revealed that consumers brand love mediates the relationship between brand anthropomorphism and consumer's intention to purchase and it also mediates the relationship of NWOM with purchase intention. Further, the analysis revealed that consumer's brand attitude mediates the relationship between brand anthropomorphism and NWOM with purchase intention. The moderation results showed that emotional stability moderates the association of brand anthropomorphism with brand love and it also moderates the association of brand anthropomorphism with brand attitude. Further, emotional stability has a moderating effect on the relationship between NWOM and brand attitude. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Reproduction-manipulating bacteria like Wolbachia can shift sex ratios in insects towards females, but skewed sex ratios may also arise from genetic conflicts. The flea beetle Altica lythri harbors three main mtDNA strains that are coupled to three different Wolbachia infections. Depending on the mtDNA types, the females produce either offspring with a balanced sex ratio or exclusively daughters. To obtain markers that can monitor when sex bias arises in the beetle’s ontogeny, we elucidated the sex determination cascade of A. lythri. We established a RT-PCR method based on length variants of dsx (doublesex) transcripts to determine the sex of morphologically indistinguishable eggs and larvae. In females of one mtDNA type (HT1/HT1*) known to produce only daughters, male offspring were already missing at the egg stage while for females of another type (HT2), the dsx splice variants revealed a balanced sex ratio among eggs and larvae. Our data suggest that the sex determination cascade in A. lythri is initiated by maternally transmitted female-specific tra (transformer) mRNA as primary signal. This tra mRNA seems to be involved in a positive feedback loop that maintains the production of the female splice variant, as known for female offspring in Tribolium castaneum. The translation of the maternally transmitted female tra mRNA must be inhibited in male offspring, but the underlying primary genetic signal remains to be identified. We discuss which differences between the mtDNA types can influence sex determination and lead to the skewed sex ratio of HT1. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction:Trichogramma wasps are egg parasitoids of agricultural lepidopteran pests. The sex of Trichogramma is determined by its ploidy as well as certain sex ratio distorters, such as the endosymbiotic bacteria Wolbachia spp. and the paternal sex ratio (PSR) chromosome. The sex determination systems of hymenopterans, such as Trichogramma spp., involve cascades of the genes transformer (tra), transformer-2 (tra2), and doublesex (dsx) and are associated with sex-specific tra and dsx splicing. First, these genes and their sex-specific variants must be identified to elucidate the interactions between the sex ratio disorders and the sex determination mechanism of Trichogramma. Methods: Here, we characterized the sex determination genes tra, tra2, and dsx in Trichogramma dendrolimi. Sex-specific tra and dsx variants were detected in cDNA samples obtained from both male and female Trichogramma wasps. They were observed in the early embryos (1–10 h), late embryos (12–20 h), larvae (32 h and 48 h), pre-pupae (96 h), and pupae (144 h, 168 h, 192 h, and 216 h) of both male and female T. dendrolimi offspring. Results: We detected female-specific tra variants throughout the entire early female offspring stage. The male-specific variant began to express at 9–10 h as the egg was not fertilized. However, we did not find any maternally derived, female-specific tra variant in the early male embryo. This observation suggests that the female-specific tra variant expressed in the female embryo at 1–9 h may not have originated from the maternal female wasp.Discussion: The present study might be the first to identify the sex determination genes and sex-specific gene splicing in Trichogramma wasps. The findings of this study lay the foundation for investigating the sex determination mechanisms of Trichogramma and other wasps. They also facilitate sex identification in immature T. dendrolimi and the application of this important egg parasitoid in biological insect pest control programs.

BACKGROUND:The domestic cat (Felis catus) is an important companion animal and is used as a large animal model for human disease. However, the comprehensive study of adaptive immunity in this species is hampered by the lack of data on lymphocyte antigen receptor genes and usage. The objectives of this study were to annotate the feline T cell receptor (TR) loci and to characterize the expressed repertoire in lymphoid organs of normal cats using high-throughput sequencing. RESULTS:The Felis catus TRG locus contains 30 genes: 12 TRGV, 12 TRGJ and 6 TRGC, the TRB locus contains 48 genes: 33 TRBV, 2 TRBD, 11 TRBJ, 2 TRBC, the TRD locus contains 19 genes: 11 TRDV, 2 TRDD, 5 TRDJ, 1 TRDC, and the TRA locus contains 127 genes: 62 TRAV, 64 TRAJ, 1 TRAC. Functional feline V genes form monophyletic clades with their orthologs, and clustering of multimember subgroups frequently occurs in V genes located at the 5' end of TR loci. Recombination signal (RS) sequences of the heptamer and nonamer of functional V and J genes are highly conserved. Analysis of the TRG expressed repertoire showed preferential intra-cassette over inter-cassette rearrangements and dominant usage of the TRGV2-1 and TRGJ1-2 genes. The usage of TRBV genes showed minor bias but TRBJ genes of the second J-C-cluster were more commonly rearranged than TRBJ genes of the first cluster. The TRA/TRD V genes almost exclusively rearranged to J genes within their locus. The TRAV/TRAJ gene usage was relatively balanced while the TRD repertoire was dominated by TRDJ3. CONCLUSIONS:This is the first description of all TR loci in the cat. The genomic organization of feline TR loci was similar to that of previously described jawed vertebrates (gnathostomata) and is compatible with the birth-and-death model of evolution. The large-scale characterization of feline TR genes provides comprehensive baseline data on immune repertoires in healthy cats and will facilitate the development of improved reagents for the diagnosis of lymphoproliferative diseases in cats. In addition, these data might benefit studies using cats as a large animal model for human disease.

The recent development in Islamic banking has uplifted the demand for Islamic banking products and services including Islamic credit card (ICC). The main focus of this study is to understand and analyse the factors influencing the acceptance of ICC in Brunei. The theory of reasoned action (TRA) was modified to categorise and determine the factors influencing the acceptance of ICC. Sample data were drawn from 210 Islamic bank customers through a convenience nonprobability technique using a self-administrated questionnaire. Multiple regression analysis was performed to categorize the most influential factors. The findings revealed that subjective norms, media awareness and attitude were the most influential factors and had a significant positive impact on the acceptance of ICC. Furthermore, the perceived financial cost had an insignificant negative and reputation had an insignificant positive impact on the acceptance of ICC. The findings suggest the regulators, policy makers and Islamic bankers to enhance the awareness of ICC through electronic and social media to create a better reputation and image. The findings further suggest Islamic bankers to customise ICCs based on customers’ demographic characteristics to maximise ICC acceptance. This study contributes to the literature by filling the knowledge gap through empirical findings from a single country analysis based on ICC facility in Brunei. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
With the continuous emergence of global warming and excessive waste of resources, especially in the clothing industry, sustainable clothing has become a fast-moving consumer goods trend. As a necessity of life, clothing often sensitively reflects the fashion, the characteristics of the times and, for young people, their lifestyle. Intelligent, cultural and sustainable clothing has become the mainstream development trend of the clothing industry. Based on the theory of reasoned action, this research takes online clothing stores as the research object and constructs the effect model between e-store image, consumer attitude and intention, and verifies the impact of e-store image on consumers' intention in the two important stages of information search and purchase. By distributing online questionnaires to consumers of online clothing stores, 823 questionnaires were finally effectively recovered. The hypothesis was verified using a multi-statistical analysis and structural equation model. The findings showed that for young consumers, in the information search stage, the three dimensions of e-store image, which are information, atmosphere and convenience, positively affect consumers' search intention. Meanwhile, in the purchase stage, the three dimensions of e-store image, which are enjoyment, uncertainty and service, have a significant impact on consumers' purchase intention. Particularly, consumer attitude plays a mediating role between different dimensions and intentions. According to the constructed consumer attitude model, we should propose these sustainable marketing suggestions for online clothing stores: First of all, online clothing store operators should improve the atmosphere, convenience and information image of electronic stores, establish a sustainable image, and enhance young consumer's identity. Secondly, using multiple marketing methods, we can establish an unimpeded one-to-one interaction with young customers through the current popular live broadcast marketing, improve the enjoyment of stores, more specifically implement marketing strategies, and strengthen the sense of sustainability. PURPOSE: Tax compliance is a topic of concern for many scholars all over the world. Most of them point out factors affecting tax compliance, and one significant factor is the adoption of tax compliance. However, there have not been many studies analyzing the relationship between attitude towards an e-tax system, adoption of an e-tax system, and tax compliance. This paper aims to investigate the mediating impact of adoption of an e-tax system in the association between attitude towards an e-tax system and tax compliance based on empirical evidence from Vietnamese enterprises. METHODOLOGY: On the basis of the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA), the research model is proposed. Accordingly, hypotheses are developed and this study applies a quantitative analysis with a research sample of 435 Vietnamese enterprises. The questionnaire includes close-ended questions sent to managers or tax accounting officers at enterprises by three methods: directly interviewing, via e-mail, and via the General Department of Taxation. The collected data are then processed and analyzed by SPSS v.22 and AMOS. The study applies Cronbach’s Alpha as a tool for assessing the reliability or internal consistency of scales. Following is the exploratory factor analysis (EFA). Finally, regression analysis is used to evaluate the impact of the independent variables on the dependent variable and to estimate the research model. FINDINGS: There are significant direct effects of the two independent variables, attitude towards an e-tax system and adoption of an e-tax system, with the dependent variable tax compliance. Furthermore, the adoption of an e-tax system partially mediates the association between attitude towards an e-tax system and tax compliance. This mediating effect positively consolidates the impact of attitude towards an e-tax system and tax compliance. IMPLICATIONS: This paper mainly focuses on the tax compliance of Vietnamese enterprises that could be further studied with foreign enterprises that have been operating in Vietnam. Besides, the research is conducted in the context of Vietnam, thus, it is a reference for studies in other developing countries having a similar economy or tax administration. ORIGINALITY/VALUE: This study contributes to enhancing research associated with tax compliance, especially investigating the mediating impact of adoption of an e-tax system in the association between attitude towards an e-tax system and tax compliance of enterprises in the context of Vietnam. The findings of the study suggest some policy implications for improving tax compliance in Vietnam including (1) continuously improving the information technology infrastructure for both tax authorities and enterprises; (2) widely disseminating tax law and providing support services to enterprises; (3) upgrading the e-tax system to ensure the effective coordination between tax authorities, tax officials, enterprises, and other authorities in applying e-tax; (4) consolidating the supervision and assessment of the adoption of e-tax; (5) promoting information and education on the perception of complying with the tax law for taxpayers in particular and the entire population in general; (6) developing a tax administration strategy based on tax compliance.

The present study investigates the motives and intricacies of the conflict between the trans-inclusive and trans-exclusionary communities from a linguistic perspective. The purpose of the study is to analyse the use and the connotations of the acronyms TERF and TRA across the two groups, as well as examining the representation of participants in USA-based forums regarding this matter. In order to tackle this issue, this paper uses WordSmith Tools to carry out a discursive-semantic analysis of the conflict and the acronyms TERF and TRA. Employing a mixed- method approach, quantitative analysis revealed that the use of these acronyms is higher in trans- exclusionary forums. Moreover, findings from the qualitative analysis shed light on the conceptualization of the conflict as a war through metaphors, and the representation of participants as enemies in the two groups. In summary, different discursive and linguistic strategies are employed in trans-inclusive and trans-exclusionary forums that perpetuate and enhance the online conflict.

CMC Tiga Warna is one of the coastal area management for conservation and ecotourism in southern Malang, Indonesia. Despite fewer tourist visits, the COVID-19 pandemic did not dissuade locals from managing and protecting ecotourism in the coastal area. This study aims to: (a) to describe coastal ecosystem management; and (b) to analyze coastal ecotourist visit intention related to tourism knowledge, perceived health risk, and risk attitude in the post-COVID-19 era as a part of developing strategy for coastal ecosystem management in the study area from the perspective of ecotourists and destination management. CMC Tiga Warna management, community group supervisors, the local community, and a variety of experts were interviewed in order to gather data for the current strategy. Coastal ecotourist visit intention data from domestic ecotourists was gathered via online and offline surveys. Analyzing the visit intention data with Warp-PLS. Using the visit intention model and interview data, the coastline management strategy was described. This study found that the coastal environment management plan constantly involved ecotourists and locals. Tourism knowledge and risk attitude are positively related to the visit intention, however perceived health risk is negatively related to it. The significant positive relationship between tourism knowledge and ecotourist visit intention is mediated by perceived health risk and risk attitude. Development of the coastal ecosystem management plan could be supported by boosting visit intention, ecotourism visits, or economic incentive as a motive for sustaining the conservation program's consistency, and ecological and social rewards in a sustainable manner. This study added to the Theory of Reasoned Action by adding two additional factors, tourist knowledge and perceived health risk, in addition to the attitude to predict the visit intention. The ecotourism manager should provide varied tourist information and knowledge as needed, reduce COVID-19 exposure risk at tourist destinations, and increase risk attitude.

As the utilization of various forms of Renewable Energy (RE) resources such as solar and wind power have become more developed and consumed over the last several years, general awareness of innovative forms of clean sustainable energy production has increased. This article discusses Waste-to-Energy (WtE) as an advanced and evolving method of RE and measures the acceptance of the technology using Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) as a basis for assessing variables that correlate to the general acceptance of WtE by those who benefit from its use. The study further examines the degree to which individuals' acceptance of WtE is predicated by attitudes concerning global warming, conventional energy use, US energy production, RE knowledge, WtE knowledge, income, and net worth. The findings indicate that all predictors, with the exception of income, indicate statistically significant and positive correlations with acceptance of WtE within the sample. Further, multiple regression analysis was used to analyze predictors to determine which factors had statistical significance and a positive relationship with WtE acceptance. The results conclude that knowledge of WtE, global warming and conventional energy beliefs, and net worth all revealed positive correlations to WtE use, which is believed to lead to positive acceptance among potential users. Based on the findings of this study, strategy implication should include leveraging this perceived acceptance through enhanced educational, advocacy and marketing efforts that focus on increasing consumer knowledge of WtE as an innovative and reliable source of RE. 49. Framtidens Gruvlavar: En Undersökning av Trä som Byggmaterial

- Abstract
Open-pit mining exposes the mine above ground, while underground mining involves extraction beneath the surface, with ore transported to ground level using a mine hoist. The structure supporting this hoist over the shaft is referred to as a minehead frame. Originally constructed mainly in wood, minehead frames transitioned to steel and concrete as mining depths and load requirements increased. Concrete, comprising gravel, crushed rock, stone, cement, and water, is considered a sustainable material, but its manufacturing process generates significant carbon dioxide emissions with adverse climate impact. Similarly, steel production significantly impacts the environment, with the industrial sector contributing substantially to Sweden's total emissions, particularly from the steel and iron industry. Considering these challenges, Boliden Mineral AB (Hereinafter referred to as Boliden) has conducted a pre-study for an expansion project aimed at increasing the production rate in the mine. A prominent goal in the project is to minimize or eliminate CO2 emissions to enable the production of "no-carbon zinc." Despite potential reductions in the environmental impact of mining operations, it is acknowledged that construction activities will always have some level of environmental impact. To mitigate the environmental impact of construction, timber is proposed as an alternative building material. Timber, a renewable resource with low environmental impact and high availability, is recognized as potentially advantageous for future minehead frame construction. This serves as the foundation for this thesis, which focuses on analyzing and comparing a new minehead frame in Boliden's expansion project. The study specifically investigates the environmental impact of construction by comparing the use of concrete and steel with timber as the primary building material. The examination is c

- Abstract
Industrial processes were responsible for approximately 24 % of the anthropogenic global greenhouse gas emissions in 2019. Similarly, industrial processes in Sweden account for the largest share of CO2 emissions among Swedish sectors. Recently, Sweden aims to be carbon neutral before 2045 and completely fossil free until 2040. Meanwhile, Sweden consists of approximately 68% forest. Hence, the Swedish forest and wood industry is a large business and an energy intensive sector contributing to anthropogenic emissions. Drying processes are widely used for different applications and stand for approximately 10-15% of the energy consumption of the industry. Wood drying is a commonly used method in the wood industry where wood is dried at higher temperatures. Previous studies of the scope have shown that incorporating High Temperature Heat Pumps (HTHPs) in industrial drying processes can result in energy savings up to 80% and thus provide energy efficiency. This is by harnessing the waste heat in industrial processes. However, the previous experience and availability of the HTHP scope is limited. Thus, the main objective of this thesis is to investigate the possibilities of HTHP integrations in the Swedish wood industry. Furthermore, this investigation was principally conducted with a case study at the timber drying kiln manufacturer Valutec, where crucial data and information were obtained. Swedish sawmills currently use biomass boilers as energy driven technology and are additionally self-sufficient in fuels, utilizing their own biomass rest products. The results of this study indicated that HTHPs currently are too expensive in order for the technology to be economically profitable and feasible for the industry. They rather indicated that implementing a heat pump achieving medium temperatures is sufficient and more economically feasible. However, HTHPs are observed to increase energy efficiency significantly especially when utilizing waste heat for this purpose.
