In this study, the Değirmendere waterfall located in the boundary of İbrahimderesi village, Ulus, Bartın is investigated. The waterfall situated in the West Blacksea Region in the southwest of the Küre mountains is 34 km from Ulus town and 54 km from Bartın. The aim of this study is to provide some planning about its active usage and sustainability as an area that can be used for tourism and recreation. During the study, the morphometric features of the area and the waterfall was studied. In addition, the location and the features of its environment was mentioned. The waterfall located on the Değirmendere stream which is the side stream of the Ulus river is on the land with sandstone and has four steps with the height 10.90 m. The use of the term Geotourism is much prior to the creation of Geoparks and not exclusive to them, although it is in this type of area where you can know the true extent of geotourism. Thus, in this paper, the objective is to make considerations on the promotion, support, and financing of geotourism projects, the integration of geotourism in global tourism and in sustainable development. The methodology used was bibliographic and documentary research. It is concluded that the joint participation of involved actors (scientific community, administration, and tourism sector) is what defines geotourism, so there is no geotourism without the scientific community, or without the support of the administration and the tourism sector.

The tourism sector is considered a powerful stimulator of national economies because it affects those economic sectors associated with it, and at the same time creates jobs, increases domestic demand, contributes positively to the balance of payments and allows a better reallocation of wealth. Recognizing this importance, it becomes relevant to investigate the impact of tourism in Portugal at the regional level in order to compare the different Portuguese regions and identify their determinants of attraction. After characterizing the Portuguese tourism market, the authors undertake an empirical analysis, based on a panel data analysis for the Portuguese regions classified by NUTs II and for the period 1990-2007. The results suggest that Lisbon is the region that contributes most to Portuguese GDP because its tourism product is more differentiated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
