Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a rare, hereditary disease affecting collagen type-1 in connective tissue. Collagen type-1 is a substantial component of dentine, and it is speculated, whether affected dentine could cause altered mesiodistal tooth dimension possibly affecting restorative treatment regimen. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to measure mesiodistal tooth dimensions in individuals with OI and compare them with healthy controls. Fifty-seven individuals aged 20–77 years with OI type 1–4 were included and 70 control patients aged 11–34 years were drawn from an orthodontic database. Mesiodistal tooth dimensions of all tooth types, except third molars, were measured in mm (two decimals) on digital 3 D-models of the tooth-bearing arches. Multilevel mixed-effects linear regression analysis showed that mesiodistal tooth dimension on average was 0.17 mm (95% CI = (−0.33; −0.01)) reduced for the OI group compared to controls. The analysis revealed variation between tooth types; incisors and first premolars were most affected and molars minimally affected. The mesiodistal tooth dimension in individuals diagnosed with OI is significantly smaller compared to healthy controls, which should be taken into consideration in the restorative treatment planning of individuals with OI, although the magnitude of the deviation is relatively small. The main goal of this report was to solve a clinical case of a 73-year-old man with diabetes, partial edentulism and a pathological occlusion with biocorrosion using conservative and adhesive techniques. A complete rehabilitative treatment was performed, increasing the vertical dimension of occlusion using indirect restorations with composite resins on teeth and resin crowns on implants and returning function using mutually protected occlusion. Ameloblasts cell which is very sensitive to the influence ofinternal and external factors. One external factor is the effect of fluoride elements that are able to affect the integrity of the ameloblasts cells and structure as well as the dimensions of the tooth enamel. This study seeks to analyze the effect of sodium fluoride exposure on the existence of tooth ameloblasts cells using indicators such as caspase-3, B-cel lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2), the distance between ameloblasts cells, as well as changes in the size or teeth dimension. Adult male healthy rats were used to experiment models, control (sterile distilled water treated), treatment group in to fluoride treated. The difference test on Bcl-2 and Caspase-3 between the control and the treatment groups showed different results (p <0.05). Similarly, the difference test on the distance between the ameloblasts cells as well asthat on the dimensional change in both groups indicated significantly different results (p <0.05). These results suggest that the induction of sodium fluoride showed the increase of Caspase-3 protein expression, the decrease of Bcl-2 expression, and the widening of the distance between ameloblasts cells, and the changes in the size or teeth dimension. Objective The associations seen clinically between variations in tooth number, size and shape reflect the repetitive genetic interactions occurring between the epithelium and mesenchyme during the initiation and morphogenetic stages of the Complex Adaptive System that is dental development. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical relationship further by comparing multiple crown parameters, including cusp numbers, between patients with mild hypodontia and controls in a Romanian sample. Design Digital images of dental casts of the permanent dentition from 28 patients with mild hypodontia and 28 controls were used. Measurements from the vestibular and occlusal surfaces were performed using a 2D image analysis method and cusps, including the Carabelli trait, were counted. Two-way analysis of variance was performed. Results The dimensions of the mild hypodontia group had smaller values than the controls, with many measurements being significantly different (significance values varied from p = 0.049 to p = 0.001 ). The most affected regions were the upper and lower anterior region in both sexes. Mesio-distal, bucco-lingual and occlusal area and perimeter dimensions were affected. Females from the hypodontia group had significantly less tricuspidated lower premolars when compared with the control group. Carabelli cusps were present in the hypodontia group less frequently, the difference being highly significant ( p = 0.0002 ) in women. Conclusions The hypodontia patients presented with reduced crown dimensions and shape compared with controls. This is the first published study to demonstrate smaller cusp numbers in patients with hypodontia than in controls. This study was undertaken in a young Irish population to determine the dimensions and ratios of the six maxillary anterior teeth. One hundred and nine Irish subjects (age 18-25 inclusive) had irreversible hydrocolloid impressions made of their maxillary dentition poured in type V stone. Clinical crown dimensions were measured with a digital calliper. The stone casts were digitally photographed in a standardised manner enabling calculation of various ratios between the maxillary anterior teeth. Sexual dimorphism existed for various tooth dimensions; most notably canine teeth were in the region of 0·8 mm longer and 0·6 mm wider in males. Central and lateral incisors were found to be 0·5 mm wider in males. It is, therefore, recommended that dimensional tooth guidelines should be given for each of the sexes and not on a population basis. With regard to tooth proportion ratios, no significant differences were found between genders or the left and right sides for any of the measurements or ratios measured. The digitally recorded tooth proportions were similar for both sexes, and the Golden Proportion guidelines could only be applied to the lateral incisor/central incisor widths (0·618).
