The aim of this study was to determine the share of Croatian adults who walk 210 min or more a week and to explore the relationship between regular walking and demographic factors, health-related behaviours, and chronic non-communicable diseases/conditions. To this end, we used the EHIS-PAQ questionnaire and collected self-reported data on minutes spent walking during a typical week from a total of 3,496 respondents. The data were additionally analysed by gender, age, education, residence (urban/rural), counties and regions, smoking, other types of physical activity, and diseases/chronic conditions. The results show that, overall, 40.9 % of the adult Croatian population walks 210 or more minutes a week, with the largest share found among those from the Lika-Senj County (76.8 %), those who spend 300 min or more weekly on health-enhancing (non-work-related) aerobic physical activity (57.6 %), those who reported having diabetes (49.3 %), and those aged 65–74 years (44.7 %). Despite its limitations, our study gives a valuable insight into the frequency and factors determining healthy walking habits in a representative sample of Croatian adults and provides grounds for further research.

Tumor Board for Cancer Rehabilitation) integriran unutar CCC Platforme za upravljanje nuspojavama, potpornu skrb i rehabilitaciju (engl.

- Abstract
Gestational diabetes is diabetes diagnosed in the second or third trimester of pregnancy that is not overt diabetes and is a growing public health problem. About 21.1 million women (16.7%) have some form of hyperglycemia during pregnancy, of which 80.3% include gestational diabetes, 10.6% previously known type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and 9.1% diabetes type 1 and type 2 diagnosed during pregnancy. Medical nutritional therapy, together with physical activity and regular or frequent glycemia self-checks, is the basis of treatment of gestational diabetes with the aim of preventing complications for both mother and child. Research shows that plant-based diet can contribute to both prevention and treatment of gestational diabetes, through the effect of reducing gastric emptying, improving insulin sensitivity and increasing insulin secretion. Since pregnant women with gestational diabetes have elevated indicators of oxidative stress and inflammatory markers (TNF-α, IL-6 and CRP), the pronounced benefits of this type of diet are richness of antioxidants and immunomodulatory effects. High content of dietary fiber, low glycemic index and high proportion of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids compared to saturated ones are additional benefits of this diet. The Mediterranean diet, which is rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, legumes, and olive oil, is a dietary pattern that includes all of the above, and the key to its effectiveness is the synergy, the joint interaction between several different components. COVID-19 pandemic , *MEDITERRANEAN diet , *ONLINE education , *FOOD habits , *HEALTH education teachers , *PHYSICAL education teachers - Abstract
Aim: The COVID -19 pandemic has changed the way people live, and children are particularly at risk because of their vulnerable age. The aim of this work was to evaluate the changes in nutritional status, physical activity, and eating habits of elementary schoolaged children during the Covid 19 pandemic. Methods: The study was conducted from February to April 2021 and included 197 primary school children, 100 boys, and 97 girls. A questionnaire was used to collect data on lifestyle, eating habits, and physical activity outside school. The Mediterranean Diet Quality Index for children and adolescents was used to determine membership in the Mediterranean diet. The kinanthropological and anthropological data of the students were obtained from the diary of the physical education and health teacher. Results: The average rating of the quality of the children's diet, as determined by the Mediterranean Diet Quality Index for Children and Adolescents, showed a moderate affiliation with the Mediterranean diet. Before online instruction, 65.9% of students ate breakfast daily, whereas during online instruction, 75.7% ate breakfast (p< 0.001). Results showed that students exercised statistically significantly more before online instruction than during online instruction (p< 0.05). Students had weaker kinanthropological scores than before beginning online instruction. Conclusions: According to the results, students' diet is of average quality, and some habits, such as breakfast, have improved, while physical activities have decreased significantly during the pandemic. Therefore, the promotion of proper nutrition and physical activity through public health programs should be emphasized to educate both children and parents about the importance of proper nutrition, physical activity, and responsible use of various media. One of the side-effects of the COVID-19 pandemic is a global change in work ergonomic patterns as millions of people replaced their usual work environment with home to limit the spread of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-COV-2) infection. The aim of our cross-sectional pilot study was to identify musculoskeletal pain that may have resulted from this change and included 232 telecommunications company workers of both genders [121 (52.2 %) men aged 23–62 (median 41; interquartile range 33–46 yrs.) and 111 (47.8 %) women aged 23–53 (median 40; interquartile range 33–44)] who had been working from home for eight months (from 16 March to 4 December 2020) before they joined the study. The participants were asked to fill in our web-based questionnaire by self-assessing their experience of hand, lower back, and upper back/neck pain while working at home and by describing their work setting and physical activity. Compared to previous work at the office, 90 (39.1 %) participants reported stronger pain in the lower back, 105 (45.7 %) in the upper back/neck, and 63 (27.2 %) in their hands. Only one third did not report any musculoskeletal problems related to work from home. Significantly fewer men than women reported hand, lower back, and upper back/ neck pain (p=0.033, p=0.001 and p=0.013, respectively). Sixty-nine workers (29.9 %) reported to work in a separate room, 75 (32.4 %) worked in a separate section of a room with other household members, whereas 87 (37.7 %) had no separate work space, 30 of whom most often worked in the dining room. Ninety-five participants (40.9 %) had no office desk to work at, and only 75 (32.3 %) used an ergonomic chair. Of those who shared their household with others (N=164), 116 (70.7 %) complained about constant or occasional disturbances. Over a half of all participants (52 %) said that they worked longer hours from home than at work, predominantly women (p=0.05). Only 69 participants (29.9 %) were taking frequent breaks, predominantly older ones (p=0.006). Our findings clearly point to a need to inform home workers how to make more ergonomic use of non-ergonomic equipment, use breaks, and exercise and to inform employers how to better organise working hours to meet the needs of work from home.

The sudden emergence of COVID-19 has led to the confinement of people in homes around the world. In Croatia as well, people were in self-isolation and stayed at home. Since confinement conditions may greatly affect physical and mental health, we investigated the scope of physical activity (PA), well-being and quality of life. A total of 580 adults were surveyed online about PA and health-related quality of life during the lockdown in Croatia. The results have shown that men are more involved in vigorous-intensity PA and have better physical and mental health in almost all domains. When comparing respondents regarding categories of PA, participants with high levels of PA function better physically, have fewer role limitations due to emotional problems and have higher levels of emotional well-being, vitality, and general health. Males, participants with lower BMI, fewer role limitations due to emotional problems, greater vitality and better social functioning have better physical health. Participants who consider that their PA is adequate and engage more in PA, who have fewer role limitations due to physical health, less physical pain, and better general health have better mental health. The results provide insights into the physical and mental components of health during the pandemic. This supports the premise that physical and mental health are highly dependent, and that there is a need to promote the importance of PA, especially for women and those who are less physically active in pandemic times. A small number of studies have examined the relationship between bone health and level of physical load. We explored the effect of occupational physical activity on skeletal status in younger sawmill workers using ultrasonic indices of bone density. In a cross-sectional study, we measured bone density with quantitative ultrasound (QUS) in 128 sawmill workers (89 men and 39 women), mean age 39.1 +/- 10.8 years. Back strength was measured by dynamometry. Information on occupational and leisure physical activity, joint pain, education and smoking were obtained with the questionnaire. All QUS bone parameters and back strength were significantly higher in men than in women. A T score for quantitative ultrasound index (QUI) of − 2.2 or lower was found only in two men and one women. QUI did not significantly differ based on presence of parameters of physical occupational activity (carrying loads exceeding 5 kg, repetitive move ments, physical exertion while working and non-sitting position at work). When controlling for age, gender and body mass index, participants with higher smoking index had significantly lower QUI (p=0.004). Physical workload was not significantly associated with QUI. In our working po pulation, some lifestyle habits, such as smoking, had a greater impact on bone health than physical occupational activity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

VITAMIN D , *PSYCHOLOGICAL distress , *PHYSICAL activity , *STUDENT health , *COLLEGE students , *UNDERGRADUATES , *TEST anxiety - Abstract
The aim of the study was to investigate serum vitamin D level in undergraduate students of health studies and its relationship with the frequency of vitamin D rich food consumption, sun exposure, study-related fatigue, headache and psychopathological status, and the relationship of the latter three parameters with the type of physical activity. A blood level of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D), Migraine Disability Assessment (MIDAS), Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory Multidimensional Fatigue Scale, Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation-Outcome Measure (CORE-OM), nutrition and physical activity were surveyed in randomly chosen students. Study results showed that 49% of students had 25(OH)D insufficiency/deficiency. The MIDAS values were higher in the insufficient/deficient group (p=0.035) and were associated with hours of weekly cardio exercises (r=-0.48, p=0.031). CORE-OM and total fatigue correlated with 25(OH)D (r=-0.59, p=0.024; r=0.51, p=0.023). Students with sufficient 25(OH)D had a significantly higher vitamin D intake by consuming sardines in their monthly nutrition (p=0.048). 25(OH)D correlated with the amount of monthly consumed sardines (r=0.59, p=0.006) in general. Our results provide initial evidence that an appropriate lifestyle along with proper physical activity, especially cardio exercise, and vitamin D rich nutrition is important to reduce fatigue, headaches and psychological distress. Cilj je ovog rada analizirati tjelesnu aktivnost i prehrambene navike djece rane i predškolske dobi u jednom dječjem vrtiću u Istri. Engaging in physical activity for every individual is extremely important in preserving health, and proper eating habits also have a significant impact on health. Physical activity and proper eating habits have a positive influence on the growth and development of a child from an early age, creating a good foundation for the future. The aim of this paper is to analyze the physical activity and eating habits of early and preschool children in a kindergarten in Istria. Research has shown that most children spend time outdoors, playing with friends and/or family, and not so much in front of a screen and in a sedentary lifestyle. The obtained data also showed that parents are aware of their importance in their child's life, where research shows that children usually have three main meals and two snacks, and a small number of respondents consume unhealthy food every day.

Kombinirana metodologija istraživanja ponudila je dublju analizu u razmišljanja sudionika o temi društvenog kapitala i subjektivne procjene dobrostanja tijekom pandemije bolesti COVID-19. The primary objective of this study was to explore the determinants of social capital associated with the well-being of adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research included 317 participants who were in their final year of high school (gymnasium and vocational programs) in four major cities in the Republic of Croatia: Zagreb (n=82), Split (n=80), Rijeka (n=65), and Osijek (n=90). The participants were between 17 and 20 years old. Data were collected through a questionnaire titled „Social Capital and Subjective Assessment of Adolescent Well-being during the COVID-19 Pandemic“, which consisted of four parts. In the first part of the questionnaire, research participants provided demographic information, self-assessment of their health, and the educational level of both parents. The second part of the questionnaire consisted of the globally used Kessler Psychological Distress Scale, which assesses the risk of developing mental disorders. The third part of the questionnaire included questions to assess students' physical activity during a typical week (GPAQ), and the fourth part assessed social capital in the family, neighborhood, and school using the Social Capital Questionnaire. In addition to quantitative research methods, a qualitative method in the form of semi-structured face-to-face interviews was also applied. Six participants were selected from each city, making a total of 24 participants, chosen randomly. Six participants were selected from Zagreb, Split, Rijeka, and Osijek, covering gymnasium, vocational technical, and trade educational programs. The combined research methodology provided a deeper analysis of participants' thoughts on the topic of social capital and subjective assessment of well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic. Frequencies were calculated for all categorical variables, while basic statistical parameters (mean, standard deviation, minimum, maximum, median, skewness, and kurtosis) and the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test for normality were calculated for the set of dependent variables related to social capital. Due to issues with the measurement characteristics of Likert-type scale variables, frequency histograms were provided for all the mentioned dependent variables. Differences between groups in the categorical variables of gender and parental education level were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test, while differences between groups in the categorical variables of city and educational program were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test. Differences between categorical variables of gender, city, educational program, and parental education level with respect to the categorical variable of health were analyzed using the Pearson chi-square test, and the association among variables was calculated using the contingency coefficient. The significance level observed in all the mentioned tests was corrected using the Bonferroni correction to control for family-wise error rate (FWER). The relationship between the variable HEALTH and the set of family social capital variables, the variable RISK and the set of neighborhood social capital variables, as well as the variable physical activity (PA) and the set of school social capital variables were explored using a sigmoidal logistic regression analysis. Logistic regression analysis was used to calculate the values of the omnibus test, Hosmer and Lemeshow test, Cox and Snell's and Nagelkerke's coefficients of determination, the overall percentage of successful classification of the predictive model compared to the null model, and to calculate the regression equation coefficients and their level of significance. The data were processed using Microsoft Excel (version 2017) and TIBCO Statistica (version 13.5), with the exception of the logistic regression analysis which was processed using the IBM SPSS Statistics program (version 23). The results suggest that parental support and encouragement, as well as shared family activities, have increased the perceived value of subjective health assessment among adolescents. Additionally, the family support experienced by adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic is positively associated with healthy lifestyles of immediate family members. The results of informal social control suggest that the majority of participants do not perceive their environment as a support for the protection and improvement of mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic. The level of mutual connectedness among students has a positive effect on the overall level of physical activity. Specifically, participation in extracurricular or structured activities within school increases the likelihood of high levels of physical activity in students by 37%. The results showed that during the COVID-19 pandemic, within the domain of family social capital, household chores were distributed unequally with a much higher engagement of girls. A gender difference was also noticed in the greater need for discussing school events among girls. The results of the school social capital indicate that high school students participate the most in extracurricular school activities, while the lowest engagement is observed among students in vocational programs. Additionally, students in the academic program socialize more with their school peers in their free time, while the least social interaction with school peers is observed among students in vocational programs. The neighborhood's social capital suggests that students whose parents have lower levels of education perceive their neighborhood as a safer place compared to the perception of safety among students whose parents have a higher level of education. Regarding the place of residence, there were no statistically significant differences among study participants in terms of social capital variables and subjective health assessment. Differences in self-rated health by gender suggest that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a negative impact on the health of girls. The combined research methodology confirmed the quantitative data and provided a deeper analysis of the participants through the use of semi-structured face-to-face interviews, resulting in a better understanding of their thoughts on social capital and subjective well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study provides an overview of the effects of social capital on adolescent well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic and the underlying mechanisms that explain these effects. The results of this study suggest that strong social ties and reciprocity norms can facilitate crisis management and encourage individuals and communities to adopt adaptive behaviors to protect and enhance adolescent well-being. Given the dynamic nature of the COVID-19 pandemic and the possibility of new variants of the virus, the contribution of this study is enriched with relevant recommendations for preserving and enhancing adolescent well-being.

56% ispitanika pije 1l do 2l vode. 30% ispitanika konzumira do dva puta tjedno jela brze hrane, dok 64% ispitanika jela brze hrane konzumira jednom do dva puta mjesečno. Cultural variations, level of education, modernized technology and sedentary lifestyle are the main cause of obesity in the 21st century. According to the definition of the World Health Organization (WHO), obesity and overweight are described as an abnormal or excessive accumulation of fat that can impair health. Obesity promotion and prevention are carried out and recorded regularly and as part of the nursing service in all levels of health care. I conducted the research in 2021 on the adult population in Croatia using a Google Forms questionnaire. 431 respondents participated in the research. The aim of this research is to examine the participants about their eating and physical habits, and to compare the lifestyle of the population with the occurrence of obesity in Croatia. The results of the research show that the average age of the respondents is 31 years, the average height is 170 cm, and the average weight is 72 kg. 72% of respondents are women, while 28% of participants are men. The largest percentage of respondents lives in Međimurje County, 88%. 64% of the respondents live in the village, while 32% of the respondents live in the city. 51% of respondents have a high school education, while 29% of respondents have completed undergraduate studies and/or graduate studies. 59% of respondents spend most of the day at work, 25% of respondents at school/college, only 13% of respondents spend most of the day at home. 69% of respondents engage in physical activities, while 31% of respondents decided not to engage in physical activities. Respondents who do not engage in any physical activity cited: 49% of respondents lack of time, 36% lack of motivation, 9% work, 5% comfort zone, 2% respondents financial situation. Most respondents, 42%, consume fruit two or more times a week, while 36% of respondents consume vegetables daily. Regarding sweets, 43% of respondents consume sweets two or more times a week. 30% of respondents consume fast food meals up to twice a week, while 64% of respondents consume fast food meals once or twice a month. The majority of respondents 56% in this study have 2 to 3 meals a day, while a smaller percentage of respondents (27%) have 4 to 5 daily meals. According to the research results, the place of residence in Croatia does not affect an individual's physical activity and diet, while the level of education greatly affects an individual's physical activity. We also came to the result that respondents who believe that they eat properly, to a greater extent, perceive their body composition as normal or sports. Also, respondents who are engaged in physical activity in greater numbers consume from 1l to 2l of water per day, as well as more than 2l of water per day.

DRUŠTVENE ZNANOSTI. Kineziologija ,SOCIAL SCIENCES. Kinesiology ,dobrobiti vježbanja ,physical activity ,prepreke vježbanja ,exercise benefits ,tjelesna aktivnost ,exercise barriers - Abstract
The aim of this research was to determine gender differences in attitudes towards physical activity and the association between the domains of physical activity and the benefits and barriers of exercise. The sample consists of 76 male and female students of Zadar medical school. The level of physical activity was measured with the long form of the International physical activity questionnaire (IPAQ) and attitudes towards physical activity with the Barriers & Benefits Scale (EBBS) questionnaire. The results show that the most significant benefits of exercise are health, feeling better after activity, and stress reduction and relaxation. The most significant barriers are lack of time, family and school obligations. Female students give greater importance to the well-being of the psychological effect compared to male students, and there is no significant difference in other variables. On a weekly level, the students are active on average 7364.22 ± 5338.38 MET-min/week, and they are most active in their leisure time, on average 2241.7 ± 2599.62 MET-min/week. There are no differences in physical activity domains by gender. In the entire sample, there is a association between physical activity in leisure time with health benefits (r=0.33) and overall sitting with psychological benefits (r=-0.27), lack of will (r=0.25), objective obstacles (r= 0.27), total benefits (r=-0.24) and total barriers (r=0.27). Among female students, physical activity at home is associated with objective obstacles (r=-0.37), physical activity in leisure time is associated with health benefits (r=0.37) and overall sitting is associated with psychological benefits (r=- 0.28), objective obstacles (r=0.31) and overall benefits (r=-0.31). Among male students, physical activity at work is associated with objective obstacles (r=0.43), physical activity at home is associated with lack of will (r=0.4), objective obstacles (r=0.4) and total barriers (r=0.39) and total physical activity is associated to objective obstacles (r=0.49) and total barriers (r=0.4). Lack of time is the most significant perceived barrier while the health benefits are the most significant expected benefit in female and male high school students. In campaigns for the promotion of physical activity, it is necessary to comprehensively inform students about the health benefits of physical activity and include strategies that will help students organize their free time more effectively.
