We consider the shape of the free surface of steady pendent rivulets (or equivalently, two-dimensional droplets) beneath a planar substrate. We formulate the governing equations in terms of two closely related dynamical systems and use classical phase-plane techniques, in particular time maps, to analyse the bifurcation structure of the problem. Our results explain why lubrication theory is unable to capture this bifurcation structure for pendent rivulets, although it is successful in the related problem of sessile rivulets. Topographic maps, a key principle of brain organization, emerge during development. It remains unclear, however, whether topographic maps can represent a new sensory experience learned in adulthood. MaMe, a congenitally blind individual, has been extensively trained in adulthood for perception of a 2D auditory-space (soundscape) where the y- and x-axes are represented by pitch and time, respectively. Using population receptive field mapping we found neural populations tuned topographically to pitch, not only in the auditory cortices but also in the parietal and occipito-temporal cortices. Topographic neural tuning to time was revealed in the parietal and occipito-temporal cortices. Some of these maps were found to represent both axes concurrently, enabling MaMe to represent unique locations in the soundscape space. This case study provides proof of concept for the existence of topographic maps tuned to the newly learned soundscape dimensions. These results suggest that topographic maps can be adapted or recycled in adulthood to represent novel sensory experiences.

In the analysis of a different process or events it is necessary to positionthem in the coordinate system space-time. Space analysis is an easily understandable andless abstract method, so this is one of the reasons why it is more often subject of research.Genesis of traffic accidents can be viewed as a continuous random process and as such,regardless of the accidents happening in the real world, it must be viewed with a temporalaspect. This kind of analysis is important especially if we know that we are makingdecision and do in time.The main idea of this paper is to cross the number of traffic accidents with killed andinjured in Province of Vojvodina (period 2001-2009) from different time aspect and tryto identify for example critical day and hour, or month and day. After this analysis thisresults are inputs for visualization and time maps. Basic aim of this paper is to emphasizeand show temporal analysis as a method for visualization and searching specified patternsin time for decision making process.

In this paper we consider the second-order nonlinear differential equation ( ∗ ) ( t α − 1 Φ ( x ′ ) ) ′ + t α − 1 − p f ( x ) = 0 , Φ ( x ) = | x | p − 2 x , p > 1 , α ∈ R , with f satisfying x f ( x ) > 0 , x ≠ 0 . We analyze the difference between the cases α < p , α > p , and α = p . In each case we give a condition on the function f which guarantees that solutions of Eq. ( ∗ ) are (non)oscillatory. The principal methods used in this paper are the Riccati technique and its modifications. The results of our paper complement and extend several previously obtained results on the subject. Abstract: This paper deals with the global existence and nonexistence of solutions of the second-order nonlinear differential equation satisfying and , where λ is a positive parameter and with and is strictly increasing odd bijective and continuous on . Necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained for the initial value problem to have a unique global solution which is oscillatory and periodic. Examples are given to illustrate our main result. The racialization of space is the subject of a huge body of literature, most recently in George Lipsitz’s (2011) How Racism Takes Place. But less has been done on the ways in which time could be racialized. Inspired by provocative treatments of the subject in writings by Michael Hanchard (1999) and Lawrie Balfour (2011), I suggest in this paper that we need to explore the workings of a “White temporal imaginary” analogous to Lipsitz’s “White spatial imaginary,” which likewise serves to protect White racial privilege from the threatening encroachments of racial justice. Using Eviatar Zerubavel’s (2003) Time Maps as a jumping-off point, I argue accordingly for the recognition of a “White time,” a “sociomental” representation of temporality shaped by the interests and experience of the White “mnemonic community.” The concept is obviously one of potentially very general usefulness, but in this essay I seek to apply it specifically to the dominant discourse on justice in political philosophy, as framed for the past forty years by John Rawls’ ([1971] 1999c) “ideal theory.” The relevance to the postracial theme of this issue is that, because of the peculiarity of philosophy as a discipline, it can claim it was always, or always-already, postracial, dealing as it ostensibly does with the (timeless) human condition as such. By making ideal theory—the normative theory of a perfectly just society—central to the conceptualization of social justice, by never exploring how radically different actual societies are from the ideal of society as “a cooperative venture for mutual advantage,” an exclusionary sociohistorical framework is established that makes the Euro-time of the West—abstracted out of the West’s relations of domination over people of color—the Greenwich Mean Time of normativity, while the alternative non-White temporality of structurally unjust societies requiring rectificatory racial justice remains a subject permanently untimely. Abstract: We present two different generalizations of R. Schaaf''s (1990) time map formula to quasilinear equations, including the case of p-Laplacian. We give conditions for monotonicity and for convexity of the time map, which imply uniqueness or multiplicity results for the corresponding Dirichlet boundary value problem. In this paper we study the existence and stability properties of certain solutions of a semilinear parabolic equation with Robin boundary conditions. We are actually interested in solutions that exhibit both boundary and internal layers. We give an extension of the Sturm-Liouville theory to treat this problem and compute the number of stable solutions. We also completely determine the attractor for a few examples. Finally, we show that our results are robust and that, in particular, the structure of these attractors persist under small perturbations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
