- Abstract
The Mounts of Traras are situated on the western south border of the Mediterranean Basin. They belong to the littoral chains (channels) of the oranie. It is a mountainous region, the average height varies between 500 and 1000 m. these mountains are subjected (submitted) to a dry semi climate with an average temperature of 18 ° C and an annual haste of 300 mm. The game (set, play) of the lithologie, the relief and the climate allows an ecological stratification and consequently an original important biological diversity for the region. The study was made during 2009, 2010 and 2011 at the level of the massif of Tarasmouth (municipality of Souk Tleta), where, we notice an alarming situation by certain subjects of Thuja. The main noticed symptoms are in order chronological, a tanning the Sheets (Leaves), rough drying of branches then total decay of the tree. The investigations show that these damages are due to a xylophagous insect in this particular case, a bupreste in phase of dangerous multitude. The identification of this insect was made in association with Pr: BOUHRAOUA (laboratory of forest Zoology), it is about Ovalisia festiva. To our knowledge, it is the first time when are observed the damages of this insect on Tetraclinaie’s Mounts of Traras. A random sampling was made along this study. The holes of penetration are studied on depressants’ trees. The damage of the bupreste Ovalisia festiva on Tetraclinis articulata results from the action(share) of larvas by digging(accentuating) galleries of reproduction under the bark The effect of group to the populations of this xylophagous pulls(entails) the tanning and the death of branches where from a total decay of attacked(affected) Tetraclinaies. The statistical study showed that there is a narrow correlation between the bupreste and the characteristics of the tree enters besides the height, the age, the diameter and the thickness of the bark. According to the obtained results (profits), we conclude that the height and the diameter of the tree play an important role on the distribution of the insect. These elements are to be considered within the framework of silvicultural arrangement (development) and to implement (operate) a strategy of protection of these ecosystems against the attacks of this bupreste. Altogether, supervision and precautions are necessary for the preservation of the health of Tetraclinaies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
