Reaction of thorium(IV) nitrate with 2-[(4-phenyl-1H-1,2,3-triazol-1-yl)methyl]pyridine (L) yielded (LH)2[Th(NO3)6] or (C14H13N4)2[Th(NO3)6] (1), instead of the expected mixed-ligand complex [Th(NO3)4L2], which was detected in the mass spectrum of 1. In the structure, the [Th(NO3)6]2− anions display an icosahedral coordination geometry and are connected by LH+ cations through C—H...O hydrogen bonds. The LH+ cations interact via N—H...N hydrogen bonds. Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that the most important interactions are O...H/H...O hydrogen-bonding interactions, which represent a 55.2% contribution.

The new eight‐coordinate complex of thorium(IV) was synthesized by the reaction of Th(NO3)4.4H2O with 1,10‐phenanthroline(phen) and 2‐hydroxy‐5‐sulfobenzoic acid (SSA) by coprecipitation method. An environment friendly chelating agent sulfosalicylic acid (SSA) having oxygen donor atoms, phen with delocalized π‐electron system, and N‐donor atoms were used during the preparation of complex. The complex was characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, UV–Vis spectroscopy, powder X‐ray diffraction (PXRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The complex was further assessed for structural and magnetic behavior. The results revealed that the complex has been completely formed as eight coordinated, amorphous in nature, diamagnetic, air stable, granular surface morphology, and water soluble. Furthermore, the FTIR studies of the complex demonstrate coordination of Th(IV) with SSA, phen, and nitrate by the participation of oxygen and nitrogen atoms. According to the results obtained, the changes in the IR spectra indicate that the coordination takes place via nitrogen atoms of phen, oxygen atoms of SSA and nitrate ions, the former two acting as bidentate ligands while as the latter coordinate via the monodentate mode. • A novel 4,4,4-trifluoro-1-(thiophen-2-yl)butane-1,3‑dione) and a 1,10 phenanthrene thorium metal complex was synthesized and characterized using single crystal X-ray structural analysis, providing valuable insights into its molecular structure. • Hirshfeld surface analysis was carried out to validate the intermolecular interactions quantitatively. • Density functional theory computational studies were carried out to calculate the molecular geometry and global reactive parameters, allowed to gain a better understanding of the properties. • Non-covalent interactions and electron charge density distribution were explored using the NCI models, providing further insights into the complex's behavior. This study presents the crystallographic analysis of a defect-free single crystal of a novel thorium metal complex, revealing its intricate three-dimensional molecular structure. The crystal was found to belong to space group C2/c, containing six mononuclear complexes in each unit cell. The central metal atom exhibited a ten-coordinated distorted sphenocoronal capped square antiprismatic geometry, forming bidendate bonds with 4,4,4-trifluoro-1-(thiophen-2-yl)butane-1,3‑dione) (TFTBD) and a 1,10 phenanthrene (Phe) ligand groups. Intriguingly, the crystal displayed a nonplanar geometry and featured various non-covalent interactions within its structure, both intra and intermolecular, enhancing its overall stability. Notably, intramolecular interactions involving C H⋯F/S/O bonds led to the formation of unique synthons, further substantiated by NCI analysis. Intermolecular interactions, such as C H⋯F, C H⋯Cg, and π⋯π interactions, played a crucial role in the crystal packing, resulting in the formation of two-dimensional molecular zig-zag chains, linear layers and hexagonal arrangements on the crystallographic ab-, bc-, and ca-planes respectively. Two new actinide metal-organic frameworks were constructed by using a tripodal flexible ligand tris (2-carboxyethyl) isocyanurate (H 3 tci) under hydrothermal condition. The combination of H 3 tci and uranyl nitrate hexahydrate in aqueous solution leads to the isolation of [(UO 2 ) 2 (H 2 O) 4 ] 0.5 (tci) 2 (UO 2 ) 4 (OH) 4 ·18H 2 O ( 1 ), which contains two distinct UO 2 2+ coordination environments. Four uranyl cations, linked through μ 3 -OH respectively, result in the edge-sharing ribbons. Then, the layer structure is constructed by U-O clusters linked through other eight-coordinated uranyl unions, giving rise to a porous structure in the space. Topological analysis reveals that complex 1 belongs to a (4, 8)-connected net with a schläfli symbol of (3 4. 2 6. 3) 2 (3 4. 4 6. 5 6. 6 8. 7 3. 8). Th 3 (tci) 2 O 2 (OH) 2 (H 2 O) 3 ·12H 2 O ( 2 ) generated by the reaction of H 3 tci and thorium nitrate tetrahydrate, possesses nine-fold coodinated Th(IV) centers with a monocapped square antiprismatic geometry. The hexamers “Th 6 O 4 (OH) 4 ” motifs are connected together by the carboxylate groups, showing a three-dimensional structures. Organoactinide complexes containing terminal metal-ligand multiple bonds have received widespread attention over the past three decades. In the last few years, significant progress has been made in the synthesis and characterization of the imido, oxo, sulfido, and carbene-containing complexes of thorium. Such thorium complexes are of interest because of their unique structural properties, their potential application in novel group transfer reactions and catalysis, as well as their ability to engage the 5f orbitals in metal-ligand bonding. Abstract: Treatment of ThCl4(tmeda)2 with 3equiv of [η 5-1,3-(Me3C)2C5H3]K in toluene under reflux gives the tris-Cp chloride complex [η 5-1,3-(Me3C)2C5H3]3ThCl (1) in 75% yield. The chlorine atom can be replaced by other groups via metathesis reactions. For example, reaction of 1 with an excess of KH in toluene under reflux affords the hydride complex [η 5-1,3-(Me3C)2C5H3]3ThH (2) in 68% yield. Complexes 1 and 2 have been characterized by various spectroscopic techniques, elemental analyses, and X-ray diffraction analyses. Complex 2 is an active catalyst for the polymerization of rac-lactide, leading to the atactic polylactides with high molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distributions. Two complexes [Th(NO3)3(dchso)4][Th(NO3)5(dchso)2] (1) and [UO2(NO3)2(dchso)2] (2) (dchso=dicyclohexyl sulfoxide) have been synthesized and characterized. The crystal structure of [Th(NO3)3(dchso)4][Th(NO3)5(dchso)2] (1) has been determined. The X-ray analysis reveals that 1 contains [Th(NO3)3(dchso)4]+ cations and [Th(NO3)5(dchso)2]− anions. In the cations, the Th atom has a coordination number 10 with irregular polyhedron involving six oxygen atoms from three bidentate nitrate groups and four oxygen atoms from the four dchso ligands. In the anions, the Th atoms have a coordination number 12 with icosahedron involving 10 oxygen atoms from five bidentate nitrate groups and two oxygen atoms from the two dchso ligands.
