This paper presents a critical examination of a vexed issue relating to how educational systems respond to diversity, inclusion, and social justice. Whilst there are unique factors specific to the various educational sectors; that is, to early years, schools, colleges, higher education and to the life‐long learning sector, this paper explores education and diversity in its broadest sense and recognizes that issues are as much cross‐sector as they are within‐sector. Further still, this paper shifts across disciplinary epistemic boundaries making use of Foucault's tools and the work of Deleuze and Guattari. Given this broader context, this paper primarily traverses the borders of schooling and higher education. It utilizes the notion of scales of justice and draws upon the work of Fraser and explores how this can offer insights into issues not only in relation to redistribution and recognition, but also to representation. It intentionally, draws upon (critical) disability studies literature; and the often‐forgotten discrimination known as disability. It acknowledges the various paradigms and terminological descriptors associated with disabled people, how these are intentionally, I argue, produced and re‐produced, subject to a process of misframing, misrecognition and maldistribution through various territorialized and often segregated educational spaces. In response, this paper offers a reading of dis/ability which moves through theoretical and conceptual understandings and advances the notion of deterritorialization in order to escape, engage and identify larger patterns of inequality. It offers different insights, provides an alternative mapping that can raise different critical questions about disability, also to issues of diversity, inclusion, and social justice. Children's independent mobility (IM) is profoundly connected to their healthy development and wellbeing, and plays a critical role in promoting their further territorial expansion in their neighborhood. In this paper, we explore perspectives of Canadian children aged 10-13 years on their IM in their neighborhood, using interpretive description analysis. This paper discusses three themes yielded from the children's data: 1) their perceived boundaries for their IM range, 2) utilized places for their IM destinations, and 3) temporal boundaries on their IM created by curfews and check-ins. Our iterative process of data triangulation allowed us to expand beyond the identified themes and original frameworks towards a novel conceptualization of children's territorial boundary expansion in the context of IM development. RABBIT behavior , *ANIMAL social behavior , *OLFACTORY receptors , *FECES , *SPATIAL behavior in animals , *BAIT for wildlife - Abstract
Olfactory signalling is widespread among mammal inter- and intra-specific communication systems. Social mammals use latrines (faecal accumulations) as a communication system, which address the needs of individuals both inside and outside the social group. Latrines are commonly used as olfactory and visual signals for the delimitation of territories, and the location of these signals may thus provide useful clues for the study of the marking animals' behaviour and the delimitation of a spatial framework for these studies. In this work, we have tested the application of indigestible faecal markers in order to define territorial boundaries marked by latrines in wild rabbit social groups. Different combinations of baits and markers were first tested on wild rabbits kept in captive conditions, and the best combinations were then applied to rabbits in semi-natural conditions in order to test their feasibility for use with wild populations. As one possible application of the method, Minimum Convex Polygons and Kernel density estimators were used to analyse the distribution of the latrines of three wild rabbit social groups in semi-natural conditions. The results of this showed that the marked bait method is a useful tool for exploring the territorial behaviour of social mammals that use latrines for communication. It can also provide useful information for the definition of spatial frameworks based on social structures, and is fast, straightforward, easy, cheap, and does not require specialised training. In the timespan between the end of the 3rd and the first half of the 2nd century B.C., a fortress overlapped the remains of the well-known settlement of the Patela hill, near Prinias. It was not isolated. A massive wall barred the pass between the Patela and the opposite hill. A barren and almost inaccessible rocky spur, around 3 km far from the fortress, had the function of monitoring and countering any threats coming from the south. Another defensive building in the opposite side of the valley had the same function. For the moment, the archaeological evidence is not enough to say exactly when the fortress and the related territorial defensive system were created and in relation to which historical moment: many events occurred in the long span of time between 220 and 150 B.C. However, the whole defensive system seems to have been designed to prevent a potential threat from the south, i.e. from Gortina. The inscriptions under discussion come mainly from the surface or from surface layers and can be dated in a period from the beginning of 3rd to the end of 2nd century B.C. The epigraphic material, albeit small and fragmentary, is quite representative of the epigraphic habits both in public and in private life and attests a wide range of activities in the area during the Hellenistic period.

Density is more about an experienced nearness to functions and activities than buildingsbeing physically close to each other. Density is interaction, and the intensity of itdepends on accessibility to the functions and activities of the built environment. The current planning, continuing the thoughts of the modernist, are a threat to publichealth and the environment, as sprawling settlements demand more resources forinfrastructure and time spent commuting between home and work, taking up the timeto spend with family and friends. The suburban planning principles of the Swedish housing estate unit have graduallytransformed the suburban neighbourhoods into dispersed, disconnected islands, wheresocial life is inhibited in the mere configuration of space. Legibility of the urban environment is important regarding orientation and navigation, but also to understand the underlying meanings of spaces and places. The urbanstructure should be easily read to be understandable in the choices of everyday life. How we understand the boundaries and transitions of our surrounding affects howspaces are used. Unclear territorial interfaces, like the open space landscape ofmodernist planning feels too exposed to be appropriated. If activities should take placein the outdoor environment, there must be a certain quality to the spaces that areinviting and promote interaction between people. The suburban housing estate neighbourhoods can be developed to promote thisinteraction, providing spaces where the different layers of social life can take place, fromthe private home – through mediating interfaces of front yards, indoor collective spaceand collective gardens – to the public realm of the streets, pathways and parks. The thesis studies the suburban neighbourhood Årsta in eastern Uppsala, whichshows the signs of a disperse suburban housing estate in its configuration of buildings, withdrawn from the streets, turning inward away from the public spaces. By adding built volume within the existing structure of the open yards, the boundariesbetween the public and the private spaces can be clearly defined and new activatedspaces can be created. Many fronts towards the streets and paths make people meet inevery-day life and new types of spaces can be used to set a framework for interactionbetween residents as well as outsiders. Such spaces can also work as a buffer betweenpublic life and the private dwelling, e.g. a collective garden mediates the space inbetween a pedestrian path and an inner yard.

This paper studies the intermediate areas between more and more extended towns and country areas. The territorial links of these intermediate areas are difficult to define. The author studies the example of "Loire-Atlantique". - Abstract
Published in conjunction with Flaka Haliti’s solo presentation conceived for the Kosovo Pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennale, this book continues the artist’s invitation to encounter a visual field in which territorial boundaries are referenced and mediated by the sensory. Through the use of a saturated blue color altered by light and demarcated by architectural forms, the installation at the Venice Biennale reflects on the salient concept of the border. The United Nations building in Pristina was a point of departure for the exhibition, as Vanessa Joan Müller backgrounds in her essay on the project, as well as relating to concerns of the threshold and the horizon line: “Concatenated concrete pylons form a tall, compact barrier which separates the UN building at the city limits from that very city. The concrete of the barriers was painted on the outside to downplay the appearance of a military safety zone. Different shades of blue.” The conversation between Markus Miessen and Haliti in the book tracks topics from migration to subjectivity, material states in relation to the digital and the status of internationalism. Haliti’s approach is to recontextualize these politics into a spatial and visual abstraction. The accompanying book follows through on the exhibition’s experience of place and the notion of the horizon as emblems of both possibilities and limitations; bounded by a deep blue, pages have been set as color fields and the typography of the texts shift in scale. Speculating on the Blue offers multiple entry points for imagining present and future relations to histories and institutions.

The investigation domain is defined by an intermediate and alternating scale, associated with the complexity of urban projects: from the domestic scale, to the scale of the neighborhood till the dimension and complexity of urban development areas. The thesis pronounces a theoretical and conceptual discourse about depth, tested by re-reading historical and contemporary projects that used various models of proximity and accessibility. The academic investigation includes references about proximity, permeability, territorial boundaries and the study of depth configurations, together with its spatial, social, cultural and environmental conditions. Various depth configurations that determine linear and multiple movements between public and private realms, between spaces with individual or collective use, were studied and compared. The idea of collective space and its related systems of relative distances is the file rouge of investigation. The present dissertation redefines and frames the concept of depth and explains, classifies and compares different models of accessibility and their very social or cultural meaning. Different ways of defining boundaries, together with new concepts of public space are studied and linked with the discourse about proximity, depth and accessibility. Using re-reading of both theoretical models and built projects, the thesis describes different ways of application and suggests possible guidelines for urban design projects. Depth is related to models of space organization in ever-changing aggregated, included or overlapped territories: defining and controlling access provides territorial control. Territorial mechanisms are based on creating asymmetrical relationships: territorial control tends to establish vertical relationships that avoid equal or indifferent accessibility between different space users at all scales. Hierarchical as well as non-hierarchical reading of depth suggests the existence of configurational systems, with several determining urban parameters and simultaneously operating agents. Both theories coincide in the importance of depth and the permeability within spatial configurations. After various case studies, we conclude that depth does not only depend on the amount of territorial boundaries crossed, or on the amount of collective spaces within a sequence, but on the way of configuring shared spaces within a project: it is the integration value of the shared space that defines the quality of the depth configuration. Increasing the amount of collective spaces does not necessarily increase the value of depth: this depends on the configuration of proximity and permeability of the project at different levels, together with the nature of applied tactics of space codification. In general, we can detect a decreasing level of complexity in many urban projects, with less subtle territorial codification, almost not allowing the user's interpretation. Last century's urban projects do not present longer or shorter depth configurations but in many occasions obtained a much more simple configuration, compensated by explicitly defined territories. Most recent urban projects show less multiple-choice strategies and are more functionally based. In many projects, the integrated value depends increasingly on corridor elements and pre-planned territorial transitions, avoiding overlap scenarios. Collective spaces are no synonyms for areas forced between clearly private and public spaces: they are time-dependent stretchable horizontal interfaces, often including private or public properties. Collective spaces rather depend on the way of sharing space. Depth configurations are not based on the traditional private/public distinction but depend on the amount, the nature and the structural qualities of collective space, together with several spacing mechanisms. The concept of depth configurations does not define a simple morphological discourse about linear quantitative sequences of crossing boundaries: the designing or reading of depth is placed within a more complex configuration of proximity, permeability, integration values and delimiting boundaries on a physical, visual and territorial level. The way and intensity of sharing space is determining for depth value.

Übersetzung : Isa Odenhardt-Donvez, This is the first detailed study of two metal deposits dated to the first half ot the 6th century B. C., found in 1878 and 1958. These two sets mostly include weapons : spear and javelin heads and sockets, swords and daggers, knifes and cutlasses, helmet and probably scale armour and harness fittings in the first set, javelin head, cnaemid and armlet in the second one. Both topographical backgrounds are analyzed, showing privileged sitings on the fringes of natural landscapes which are also necessary crossing-points. Due to the similarity in the deposits and their peculiarity, being not funerary, the authors consider them markers of territory, and put them in a historical context of structuring local communities and where strained relationships increased at the time when the first Etruscan and Greek traders settled on the sea coast., Cet article est la première étude détaillée de deux dépôts d’objets métalliques de la première moitié du vie s. av. - Abstract
A common position adopted by international lawyers on State borders is that they should be changed as little as possible, as allowing too much scope for changes to borders risks opening up a Pandora’s box of unending claims. The liberal position on international boundaries posits that the location of a State’s external boundaries matters little anyway, as the liberal State can function within any borders. The article attempts to provide a critique of these positions, and argues that another approach to borders, and particularly to boundaries at the dissolution of States, is needed. The liberal assumption does not adequately respond to boundary changes in non-liberal States. Differences between borders, and the importance attached to these differences in different contexts, have attracted little attention by international lawyers. Because the same solution often tends to lead to different results in different contexts, attempting to apply Public International Law rules, such as a modern version of uti possidetis, to boundaries in all cases of State dissolutions and new State formations, forms not only an insufficient response, but might in fact risk contravening obligations under the UN Charter to maintain international peace and security. The conflicts over the republican boundaries of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) in the early 1990s exemplify that an automatic conversion of federal boundaries into international ones risks undermining long-term peaceful solutions. The final status of Kosovo, and the issue of its borders, remains a challenge for the international community. In light of the recent tensions in Kosovo existing territorial and political assumptions need to be reexamined, in order that the solution adopted for the territory accord with international obligations set out under the UN Charter.
