Context: Horizontal hops can provide insight into how athletes can tolerate high-intensity single-leg stretch loads and are commonly used in athlete monitoring and injury management. Variables like flight, contact, and total time provide valuable diagnostic information to sports science professionals. However, gold-standard assessment tools (eg, 3-dimensional motion capture, force plates) require monetary and technological resources. Therefore, we used a tablet and free software to determine the between-rater, within-rater, and test–retest variability of the temporal events of multiple horizontal hop tests. Design: Reliability study. Methods: Nine healthy males (20.8 [1.3] y, 71.4 [9.8] kg, 171.7 [4.5] cm) across various university sports teams and clubs volunteered and performed several triple (3-Hop) and quintuple (5-Hop) horizontal hops over 3 testing sessions. Six raters detected temporal events from video to determine between-rater variability, while a single rater quantified within-session and test–retest variability. The temporal variables of flight time, ground contact time for each individual hop, and the total time of each hoping series were determined. The consistency of measures was interpreted using the coefficient of variation and interclass correlation coefficients (ICC). Results: Good to excellent between-rater consistency was observed for all hops (ICC =.85–1.00). Absolute (coefficient of variation ≤ 2.0%) and relative consistency (ICC =.98–1.00) was excellent. Test–retest variability showed acceptable levels of absolute consistency (coefficient of variation ≤ 8.7%) and good to excellent consistency in 10/16 variables (ICC =.81–.93), especially those later in the hopping cycle. Conclusions: A tablet and free digitizing software are reliable in detecting temporal events during multiple horizontal hops, which could have exciting implications for power diagnostics and return-to-play decisions. Lichen sclerosus et atrophicus (LSA) is a chronic inflammatory disorder, most often characterized by atrophic skin plaques located on female genitalia. Infrequently, LSA may present extragenitally; however, much is unknown about the temporal relationship between genital and extragenital LSA. Morphea, also known as localized scleroderma, is a rare inflammatory skin condition characterized by sclerotic plaques. Investigators debate whether LSA and morphea exist on the same spectrum of disease, with LSA representing a superficial variant of morphea involving genitalia, or if they are distinct but coincidental entities. Although researchers have described LSA and morphea occurring in different locations on the same patient, few reports describe LSA and morphea occurring in the same lesion and in the inguinal folds. Herein, we report a case of a 62-year-old woman with extragenital LSA-morphea overlap in the inguinal folds, who three months later developed genital LSA. Extragenital LSA-morphea in the same plaque, with no signs of genital lesions on initial exam, with later development of genital LSA, is especially uncommon. The temporal progression of extragenital LSA-morphea overlap to genital LSA over a three-month period is an important contribution to the literature, as the temporal relationship between extragenital and genital LSA is not previously discussed.

While dual-task walking requires the ability to integrate sensory information from multiple ongoing sources, it remains unknown whether dual-task walking is more affected than single-task walking by the multisensory integration ability. How does the audiovisual temporal integration ability affect single-task and dual-task gaits in the aging population? One hundred and thirty healthy middle-aged and older adults (age = 64.7 ± 6.4 years) completed an audiovisual simultaneity judgment (AVSJ) task and underwent single-task, motor dual-task, and cognitive dual-task gait assessments. In the AVSJ task, participants judged whether a flash and an auditory stimulus presented at different stimulus onset asynchronies were simultaneous. The accuracy and precision of the AVSJ performance were assessed using the point of subjective simultaneity (PSS) and the temporal binding window (δ), respectively. A lower absolute PSS and δ indicated better performance. Participants held a cup of water and performed serial-7 subtraction for motor and cognitive dual-task gait assessments, respectively. The spatiotemporal gait parameters and their variability were calculated. The influences of PSS and δ on the gait parameters of the three gaits were examined with multiple hierarchical regressions. Only the cognitive dual-task gait was significantly affected by PSS and δ. Greater PSS predicted a longer single support time (β = 0.195, p = 0.024) and its variability (β = 0.224, p = 0.011). Greater δ predicted greater step time variability (β = 0.198, p = 0.022). Understanding how natural and anthropogenic disturbances affect the structure and functioning of marine ecosystems is central to predicting future dynamics. Placentia Bay is an Ecologically and Biologically Significant Area (EBSA) in the North Atlantic exposed to multiple stressors (e.g., rising sea surface temperatures, tanker traffic, and aquaculture). To investigate changes in the community and functional structure of soft-sediment macrofauna as well as environmental drivers of observed variation, we compared contemporary (2019–2020) and historical (1998) samples at eight stations (n = 77) collected 21 years apart. Although community and functional structure differed between these time points, functional traits were maintained (i.e., no loss of 36 trait modalities). Overall, 37% of species/taxa were only observed in either the historical or contemporary community, and the contemporary community exhibited lower macrofaunal density but had similar richness, resulting in higher evenness and diversity. Highly tolerant subsurface deposit feeders having small body sizes (< 10 mm) and direct development dominated the historical community. The contemporary community had nearly equal proportions of surface and subsurface deposit feeders with small to medium body sizes (< 10–50 mm) with pelagic larvae, and the proportion of highly tolerant species/taxa was reduced. These changes likely reflect the reduction in polychaetes (91 vs. 58%) and increased bivalves (4 vs. 25%) relative to the historical time point. Community variation was driven by changes in the sedimentary habitat. Contemporary versus historical sediments were ~ 4.5x coarser (possibly due to storms) with higher levels of sedimentary organic matter. Temporal ecological niche partitioning is an underappreciated driver of speciation. While insects have long been models for circadian biology, the genes and circuits that allow adaptive changes in diel-niches remain poorly understood. We compared gene expression in closely related day- and night-active non-model wild silk moths, with otherwise similar ecologies. Using an ortholog-based pipeline to compare RNA-Seq patterns across two moth species, we find over 25 pairs of gene orthologs showing differential expression. Notably, the gene disco, involved in circadian control, optic lobe and clock neuron development in Drosophila, shows robust adult circadian mRNA cycling in moth heads. Disco is highly conserved in moths and has additional zinc-finger domains with specific nocturnal and diurnal mutations. The properties of biochar may vary depending on feedstock type and producing temperature. The aim of this research was to understand the short-term effects of different pyrolysis temperatures and application rates of olive pomace biochar (OPB) on soil carbon (C), aggregate stability (AS), and aggregate size distribution for sandy loam soil. OPB was produced at low (350 °C) and high (700 °C) temperatures and incorporated into the soil at different rates and incubated for 6 months under controlled temperature and moisture conditions. OPB350 had low pH, high carbon, and nitrogen (N) values compared to OPB700. As the temperature increased the concentration of zinc, iron, manganese, copper, sodium, potassium, and magnesium in biochar increased. The BET surface area of OPB350 was 1.076 m2 g−1, and OPB 700 was 107.7 m2 g−1. Application of OPB improved soil aggregate stability and carbon content while the proportion of > 4 mm-aggregates and aggregate mean weight diameter decreased. OPB addition to soil increased microaggregate percentages and decreased macroaggregate percentages. OPB produced at high temperatures significantly increased soil AS value compared to OPB350. Objective To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of dengue fever in Guangzhou and provide a scientific basis for dengue fever prevention and control. Methods The data of dengue cases in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province reported between 2019 and 2023, were retrieved from the China Disease Prevention and Control Information System. Cross-sectional analysis was used to describe the temporal, spatial, and demographic distribution, and analyze the epidemiological characteristics. Results A total of 3 518 cases of dengue fever were reported in Guangzhou from 2019 to 2023, including 3 101 local cases (88.15%) and 417 imported cases (11.85%). The annual average incidence rate ranged from 0.09 to 17.59 per 100 000 population. Imported dengue fever cases were reported in all months, with the peak reported from May to November (374 cases, 89.69%). Local cases were first reported in May and the last in December, with the highest incidence from August to November (2 960 cases, 95.45%). The cases were reported in all 11 administrative districts; the top three were Baiyun District, Yuexiu District, and Liwan District. Male and female cases accounted for 53.52% and 46.48%, respectively; the age group mainly concentrated between 20-<60 years (2 547 cases, 72.40%). The top three occupations were business services (784 cases), housework and unemployment (738 cases), and retirees (596 cases). The average time from onset to diagnosis for local cases was 4.06 days, and 4.60 days for imported cases. The overseas imported cases mainly came from Southeast Asia 88.10%(311/353), with the most being imported from Cambodia. Cases imported from other provinces mainly came from Yunnan Province, and cases imported from other cities within the province mainly came from Foshan City. Conclusions In recent years, the incidence of dengue fever in Guangzhou has remained at a high level, with obvious imported and seasonal characteristics. Relevant departments should pay attention to key populations and take effective measures to reduce the density of mosquito vectors, and strictly prevent the spread of dengue fever. Background: Generalized Joint Hyper-mobility (GJH) can aid in the diagnosis of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), a complex genetic connective tissue disorder with clinical features that can mimic other disease processes. Our study focuses on developing a unique image-based goniometry system, the HybridPoseNet, which utilizes a hybrid deep learning model. Objective: The proposed model is designed to provide the most accurate joint angle measurements in EDS appraisals. Using a hybrid of CNNs and HyperLSTMs in the pose estimation module of HybridPoseNet offers superior generalization and time consistency properties, setting it apart from existing complex libraries. Methodology: HybridPoseNet integrates the spatial pattern recognition prowess of MobileNet-V2 with the sequential data processing capability of HyperLSTM units. The system captures the dynamic nature of joint motion by creating a model that learns from individual frames and the sequence of movements. The CNN module of HybridPoseNet was trained on a large and diverse data set before the fine-tuning of video data involving 50 individuals visiting the EDS clinic, focusing on joints that can hyperextend. HyperLSTMs have been incorporated in video frames to avoid any time breakage in joint angle estimation in consecutive frames. The model performance was evaluated using Spearman's coefficient correlation versus manual goniometry measurements, as well as by the human labeling of joint position, the second validation step. Outcome: Preliminary findings demonstrate HybridPoseNet achieving a remarkable correlation with manual Goniometric measurements: thumb (rho = 0.847), elbows (rho = 0.822), knees (rho = 0.839), and fifth fingers (rho = 0.896), indicating that the newest model is considerably better. The model manifested a consistent performance in all joint assessments, hence not requiring selecting a variety of pose-measuring libraries for every joint. The presentation of HybridPoseNet contributes to achieving a combined and normalized approach to reviewing the mobility of joints, which has an overall enhancement of approximately 20% in accuracy compared to the regular pose estimation libraries. Recently, the growing demand for autonomous driving in the industry has led to a lot of interest in 3D object detection, resulting in many excellent 3D object detection algorithms. However, most 3D object detectors focus only on a single set of LiDAR points, ignoring their potential ability to improve performance by leveraging the information provided by the consecutive set of LIDAR points. In this paper, we propose a novel 3D object detection method called temporal motion-aware 3D object detection (TM3DOD), which utilizes temporal LiDAR data. In the proposed TM3DOD method, we aggregate LiDAR voxels over time and the current BEV features by generating motion features using consecutive BEV feature maps. First, we present the temporal voxel encoder (TVE), which generates voxel representations by capturing the temporal relationships among the point sets within a voxel. Next, we design a motion-aware feature aggregation network (MFANet), which aims to enhance the current BEV feature representation by quantifying the temporal variation between two consecutive BEV feature maps. By analyzing the differences and changes in the BEV feature maps over time, MFANet captures motion information and integrates it into the current feature representation, enabling more robust and accurate detection of 3D objects. Experimental evaluations on the nuScenes benchmark dataset demonstrate that the proposed TM3DOD method achieved significant improvements in 3D detection performance compared with the baseline methods. BACKGROUND: An efficient deep convolutional neural network (DeepCNN) is proposed in this article for the classification of Covid-19 disease. OBJECTIVE: A novel structure known as the Pointwise-Temporal-pointwise convolution unit is developed incorporated with the varying kernel-based depth wise temporal convolution before and after the pointwise convolution operations. METHODS: The outcome is optimized by the Slap Swarm algorithm (SSA). The proposed Deep CNN is composed of depth wise temporal convolution and end-to-end automatic detection of disease. First, the datasets SARS-COV-2 Ct-Scan Dataset and CT scan COVID Prediction dataset are preprocessed using the min-max approach and the features are extracted for further processing. RESULTS: The experimental analysis is conducted between the proposed and some state-of-art works and stated that the proposed work effectively classifies the disease than the other approaches. CONCLUSION: The proposed structural unit is used to design the deep CNN with the increasing kernel sizes. The classification process is improved by the inclusion of depth wise temporal convolutions along with the kernel variation. Phalaris aquatica is pasture species introduced into Australia during early European settlement. Consumption of the plant can cause the neurological condition chronic phalaris toxicity (CPT) in sheep and cattle. In recent years, there has been an increase in reports of CPT in macropods, which has raised concerns regarding its impacts on their welfare. Currently, little is known about the distribution or seasonal patterns of this disease in wildlife, information pivotal in assessing its potential risks. Between 2021 and 2022, we conducted a survey targeting government bodies, veterinary businesses and wildlife organisations to investigate the locations and time of occurrence of CPT in macropods in the state of Victoria, Australia. We received 13 survey responses, 12 verbal reports, a full record of investigated cases from a university veterinary school and cases from a wildlife rescue organisation. Over the period of 11 years, Victoria had 918 cases of CPT recorded in macropods from 36 local government areas, with cases concentrated centrally just north of the state capital of Melbourne and July (midwinter) being the month with the highest case count (n = 220). There was a significant positive correlation between case count and both the abundance of kangaroos (Macropus giganteus and Macropus fuliginosus) (P < 0.01) and the abundance of P. aquatica (P = 0.009), and a significant negative correlation between annual case count and average rainfall of March (P = 0.016) and April (P = 0.02). Understanding these relationships will assist land and wildlife managers in predicting the risk and magnitude of disease outbreaks of CPT each in Victoria. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A patient with a non-missile penetrating brain injury might present fully conscious without any neurological deficit with a small linear laceration on skull as the only sign of injury. We present a 27-year-old man who was referred to us with new onset CSF leakage as rhinorrhea and history of penetrating stab wound injury to his right temporal region, 3 months ago. The imaging showed the tract of removed sharp object which was piercing the calvaria and the temporal lobe from the right temporal bone, entering the lateral wall of the cavernous sinus, adjacent to the siphon of the carotid artery till the lateral wall of the right sphenoid sinus, ultimately its distal tip entered the sphenoid sinus. The patient was treated through an endoscopic endonasal approach to repair the defect of his skull base. As a result, we should be cautious in facing these patients even if they are asymptomatic. Abstract Under-five children’s diarrhea is a significant public health threat and the World Health Organization (WHO) reported it as the second leading cause of children’s death worldwide. In this study area, little is known about the spatiotemporal distribution of under-5 diarrhea incidence. This study was therefore, conducted among all districts in the Central Gondar zone to assess the spatial, temporal, and spatiotemporal variation in diarrhea incidence among under-five children in the Central Gondar zone. The data for children under 5 years of age with diarrhea was obtained from Central Gondar Zone Health Department diarrhea reports from January 2019 to December 2022. All districts were included and geo-coded. The spatial data were created in ArcGIS 10.8.1. Global and local spatial autocorrelation were used to detect hot spots and cold spots. The Poisson model was generated by applying the Kulldorff method in SaTScan™9.6 to analyse the the purely temporal, spatial, and space-time clusters. The study revealed spatial variation of under-5 diarrhea where Gondar City, Gondar Zuria, East Dembia, and Lay Armacho districts were the high-rate spatial clusters during the study period. A year search window for temporal scan statistic identified 01 January 2020-30 December 2021 as risk periods across all districts. Spatiotemporal scan statistics detected high-rate clusters at Gondar City, Gondar Zuria, East Dembia, Lay Armacho, and Alefa between 2019 and 2022. In conclusion, there has been a spatial, temporal, and spatiotemporal variability of under-5 children’s diarrhea in the Central Gondar Zone. Interventional and preventive strategies should be developed and given priority to the areas that has been detected as a hotspot in this study to reduce the mortality and morbidity of under 5 children.

Abstract Background Mental illness poses a substantial global public health challenge, including in Thailand, where exploration of access to mental health services is limited. The spatial and temporal dimensions of mental illness in the country are not extensively studied, despite the recognized association between poor mental health and socioeconomic inequalities. Gaining insights into these dimensions is crucial for effective public health interventions and resource allocation. Methods This retrospective study analyzed mental health service utilization data in Thailand from 2015 to 2023. Temporal trends in annual numbers of individuals visiting mental health services by diagnosis were examined, while spatial pattern analysis employed Moran’s I statistics to assess autocorrelation, identify small-area clustering, and hotspots. The implications of our findings for mental health resource allocation and policy were discussed. Results Between 2015 and 2023, mental health facilities documented a total of 13,793,884 visits. The study found anxiety, schizophrenia, and depression emerged as the top three illnesses for mental health visits, with an increase in patient attendance following the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak. Spatial analysis identified areas of significance for various disorders across different regions of Thailand. Positive correlations between certain disorder pairs were found in specific regions, suggesting shared risk factors or comorbidities. Conclusions This study highlights spatial and temporal variations in individuals visiting services for different mental disorders in Thailand, shedding light on service gaps and socioeconomic issues. Addressing these disparities requires increased attention to mental health, the development of appropriate interventions, and overcoming barriers to accessibility. The findings provide a baseline for policymakers and stakeholders to allocate resources and implement culturally responsive interventions to improve mental health outcomes.

Abstract Background Malaria is one of the most devastating tropical diseases, resulting in loss of lives each year, especially in children under the age of 5 years. Malaria burden, related deaths and stall in the progress against malaria transmission is evident, particularly in countries that have moderate or high malaria transmission. Hence, mitigating malaria spread requires information on the distribution of vectors and the drivers of insecticide resistance (IR). However, owing to the impracticality in establishing the critical need for real-world information at every location, modelling provides an informed best guess for such information. Therefore, this review examines the various methodologies used to model spatial, temporal and spatio-temporal patterns of IR within populations of malaria vectors, incorporating pest-biology parameters, adopted ecological principles, and the associated modelling challenges. Methods The review focused on the period ending March 2023 without imposing restrictions on the initial year of publication, and included articles sourced from PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus. It was also limited to publications that deal with modelling of IR distribution across spatial and temporal dimensions and excluded articles solely focusing on insecticide susceptibility tests or articles not published in English. After rigorous selection, 33 articles met the review's elibility criteria and were subjected to full-text screening. Results Results show the popularity of Bayesian geostatistical approaches, and logistic and static models, with limited adoption of dynamic modelling approaches for spatial and temporal IR modelling. Furthermore, our review identifies the availability of surveillance data and scarcity of comprehensive information on the potential drivers of IR as major impediments to developing holistic models of IR evolution. Conclusions The review notes that incorporating pest-biology parameters, and ecological principles into IR models, in tandem with fundamental ecological concepts, potentially offers crucial insights into the evolution of IR. The results extend our knowledge of IR models that provide potentially accurate results, which can be translated into policy recommendations to combat the challenge of IR in malaria control. This study examines the effects of limb dominance and lead limb in task initiation on the kinetics and kinematics of step-off drop landings. Nineteen male participants performed drop landings led by the dominant and non-dominant limbs at 45-cm and 60-cm drop heights. Ground reaction force (GRF) and lower body kinematic data were collected. Between-limb time differences at the initial ground contact were calculated to indicate temporal asymmetry. Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM) was applied for waveform analysis while two-way repeated measures ANOVA was used for discrete parameters. SPM results revealed greater GRF and lesser ankle dorsiflexion in the lead limb compared to the trail limb in 3 out of 4 landing conditions. The dominant limb displayed a greater forefoot loading rate (45 cm: p=.009, ηp2 = 0.438; 60 cm: p=.035, ηp2 = 0.225) and greater ankle joint quasi-stiffness (45 cm: p <.001, ηp2 = 0.360; 60 cm: p <.001, ηp2 = 0.597) than the non-dominant limb. Not all 380 trials were lead-limb first landings, with a smaller between-limb time difference (p=.009, d = 0.60) at 60 cm (4.1 ± 2.3 ms) than 45 cm (5.6 ± 2.7 ms). In conclusion, the step-off drop landing is not an ideal protocol for examining bilateral asymmetry in lower limb biomechanics due to potential biases introduced by limb dominance and the step-off limb. Recent global events have triggered compositional changes in the workplace (e.g., intentional diversification and sudden team member removal). This study investigates whether team gender diversity and the novelty of membership changes moderate the relationship between team processes and performance. We found that development of team confidence plays a pivotal role in shaping performance through its influence on backup behavior. Moreover, gender-balanced teams were better at translating their confidence into backup behaviors, and teams experiencing reduced novelty during membership change events tend to leverage these behaviors more effectively, leading to enhanced overall performance. The airport line plays an important role in the airport landside traffic connection, which greatly relieves the urban road pressure. Studying the characteristics and laws of the time and space distribution of the airport line passenger flow will provide basic support for the airport line's capacity configuration, passenger flow control, and air‐track coordinated operation, and will also provide quantitative basis for the layout of urban terminal buildings. This paper proposes a method to analyse the temporal and spatial distribution characteristics of airport line passenger flow based on AFC card swiping data. By mining and extracting the travel behaviour data of subway airport line air passengers, the distribution characteristics of airport line passenger flow are analysed and visualized from two aspects of passenger travel time and space. Finally, a case study is carried out based on the actual data of Daxing airport express. The results show that: (1) the travel time of departure and return passengers is concentrated in 60–90 min; (2) The departure and arrival points of passengers are concentrated within the Fourth Ring Road, and a large number of air passenger flows are gathered and evacuated at hubs such as Beijing South Railway Station and Beijing West Railway Station. Background and Aims: Behavioral economic theory predicts that high alcohol demand and high proportionate alcohol‐related reinforcement are important determinants of risky alcohol use in emerging adults, but the majority of research to date has been cross‐sectional in nature. The present study investigated prospective and dynamic relationships between alcohol demand and proportionate alcohol‐related reinforcement in relation to heavy drinking days and alcohol problems. Design: Longitudinal cohort with assessments every 4 months for 20 months. Setting: Ontario, Canada. Participants: Emerging adults reporting regular heavy episodic drinking (n = 636, Mage = 21.44; 55.8% female). Measurements Heavy drinking days (HDD; Daily Drinking Questionnaire), alcohol problems (Brief Young Adult Alcohol Consequences Questionnaire), alcohol demand (Alcohol Purchase Task) and proportionate alcohol‐related reinforcement (Activity Level Questionnaire). Findings Linear mixed effects models revealed that behavioral economic indicators and alcohol‐related outcomes significantly decreased over the study, consistent with 'aging out' of risky alcohol use. Random intercept cross‐lagged panel models revealed significant between‐person relationships, such that higher alcohol demand and alcohol‐related reinforcement were positively associated with HDD and alcohol problems (random intercepts = 0.187–0.534, Ps < 0.01). Moreover, alcohol demand indicators (particularly the rate of change in elasticity of the demand curve, as measured by α, and the maximum expenditure, Omax) and proportionate alcohol‐related reinforcement significantly forecasted changes in HDD at all time points (|βs| = 0.063–0.103, Ps < 0.05) in cross‐lagged relationships, with bidirectional associations noted for the rate of change in elasticity (βs = −0.085 to −0.104, Ps < 0.01). Proportionate alcohol‐related reinforcement also significantly forecasted changes in alcohol problems at all time points (βs = 0.072–0.112, Ps < 0.01). Conclusions: Multiple behavioral economic indicators (demand elasticity, maximum expenditure and reinforcement ratio) forecast changes in heavy episodic drinking and alcohol problems over the course of emerging adulthood. These results further implicate alcohol demand and proportionate alcohol‐related reinforcement as etiologically and developmentally important mechanisms in alcohol use trajectories. Researchers have intimated that cognitions and emotions can change in the lead up to important events. However, previous research has adopted atemporal cross‐sectional designs, making it challenging to understand how cognitions and emotions unfold in the lead up to a competition. In the current study, we extended previous research by examining the temporal patterns of cognitive appraisals, irrational beliefs, and challenge and threat evaluations in predicting pre‐competitive affective states (hedonic balance and anxiety) in the lead up to an actual competition, among competitive elite Indian golfers (N = 107). We adopted a within‐subjects repeated‐measures design and collected data in the lead up to an actual golf tournament, at three timepoints; 1 week before (T1), the night before (T2), and an hour prior (T3). Self‐reported measures of cognitive appraisals, irrational beliefs, challenge and threat evaluations, affect, and anxiety were completed. Also, objective golf performance was collected from participants. Crossed‐lagged path analysis did not find a causal effect for irrational beliefs on any of the variables across the three time points. On the other hand, hierarchical multiple regression analysis determined that changes in irrational beliefs predicted changes in cognitive appraisals, threat evaluation, cognitive and somatic anxiety, and the directional interpretation of anxiety. The findings of temporal patterns in the current research indicated that sport psychologists should consider the dynamic nature of antecedent cognitions and affective states in the lead up to competition, and accordingly provide adequate support to the athletes. This study proposed a spatially explicit non-linear function for estimating the benefits following the release and establishment of the koinobiont endoparasitoid, Fopius arisanus at a landscape scale in Kenya to control the oriental fruit fly, Bactrocera dorsalis. The proposed model relates the bioecology of the parasitoid to its impacts on fruit growers' economic benefits per fruit farm. In addition, we used financial information attributed to the cost of importation, conducting associated research, and the release of F. arisanus to estimate the return on investment from the parasitoid's release in Kenya. We observed distinct variations in potential annual benefits across the diverse mango cultivation regions throughout Kenya. In Kenya, the potential benefits range from negligible benefit to high benefit per acre (US$201- US$255) annually when classical biological control is applied. Furthermore, the cost-benefit ratio analysis showed that in Kenya, for every US$1 invested, the return benefit was US$33.92. In addition in Kenya, the investment yielded a significant net present value of US$13.7 million over a 16-year period and an attractive internal rate of return of 73% compared to the reference discount rate of 12%. The study suggests the need to facilitate further release of the parasitoid (F. arisanus) across major fruit production regions of countries affected by the invasive fruit fly (B. dorsalis). Highlights: This study presents a spatially explicit non-linear function for estimating the economic benefits at scale following parasitoid release and establishment to control an invasive fruit fly. Costs incurred in the exploration, importation, lab research, and field release were employed to estimate the return on investment in the bio-control of fruit flies using F. arisanus as an agent in Kenya. Terpenoids are defense metabolites that are induced upon infection or wounding. However, their role in systemic‐induced resistance (SIR) is not known. Here, we explored the role of terpenoids in this phenomenon at a very early stage in the interaction between Austrian pine and the tip blight and canker pathogen Diplodia pinea. We induced Austrian pine saplings by either wounding or inoculating the lower stems with D. pinea. The seedlings were then challenged after 12 h, 72 h, or 10 days with D. pinea on the stem 15 cm above the induction. Lesion lengths and terpenoids were quantified at both induction and challenge locations. Key terpenoids were assayed for antifungal activity in in vitro bioassays. SIR increased with time and was correlated with the inducibility of several compounds. α‐Pinene and a cluster of β‐pinene, limonene, benzaldehyde, dodecanol, and n‐dodecyl acrylate were positively correlated with SIR and were fungistatic in vitro, while other compounds were negatively correlated with SIR and appeared to serve as a carbon source for D. pinea. This study shows that, overall, terpenoids are involved in SIR in this system, but their role is nuanced, depending on the type of induction and time of incubation. We hypothesize that some, such as α‐pinene, could serve in SIR signaling. Summary statement: Trees can resist recurring pathogenic attacks using memory of successful prior encounters with pest or pathogens. Here we show that pathogenic induction results in systemic and selective accumulation of certain terpenoids and other non‐terpenoids in trees conferring higher resistance against newer infection. We aim to estimate the pose of dogs from videos using a temporal deep learning model as this can result in more accurate pose predictions when temporary occlusions or substantial movements occur. Generally, deep learning models require a lot of data to perform well. To our knowledge, public pose datasets containing videos of dogs are non existent. To solve this problem, and avoid manually labelling videos as it can take a lot of time, we generated a synthetic dataset containing 500 videos of dogs performing different actions using Unity3D. Diversity is achieved by randomising parameters such as lighting, backgrounds, camera parameters and the dog's appearance and pose. We evaluate the quality of our synthetic dataset by assessing the model's capacity to generalise to real data. Usually, networks trained on synthetic data perform poorly when evaluated on real data, this is due to the domain gap. As there was still a domain gap after improving the quality of the synthetic dataset and inserting diversity, we bridged the domain gap by applying 2 different methods: fine-tuning and using a mixed dataset to train the network. Additionally, we compare the model pre-trained on synthetic data with models pre-trained on a real-world animal pose datasets. We demonstrate that using the synthetic dataset is beneficial for training models with (small) real-world datasets. Furthermore, we show that pre-training the model with the synthetic dataset is the go to choice rather than pre-training on real-world datasets for solving the pose estimation task from videos of dogs. Multilayer social networks are the main representative form for today's social networks. In fact, the multiplicity of relations, the huge amount of data and the dynamic nature of nowadays social networks impose the representation of the network with multiple layers. This new representation makes network analysis more challenging especially Community retrieval. So, researchers propose different approaches to handle these challenges to detect accurate communities in the multilayer networks. The main goal of this paper is to present a novel and comprehensive view on community detection strategies within multilayer social networks. To do so, we provide a taxonomy of existing methods in static and dynamic multilayer social networks. Additionally, we introduce a "four worlds framework" to offer a comprehensive comparison of the different existing community detection methods. Background: Mental illness poses a substantial global public health challenge, including in Thailand, where exploration of access to mental health services is limited. The spatial and temporal dimensions of mental illness in the country are not extensively studied, despite the recognized association between poor mental health and socioeconomic inequalities. Gaining insights into these dimensions is crucial for effective public health interventions and resource allocation. Methods: This retrospective study analyzed mental health service utilization data in Thailand from 2015 to 2023. Temporal trends in annual numbers of individuals visiting mental health services by diagnosis were examined, while spatial pattern analysis employed Moran's I statistics to assess autocorrelation, identify small-area clustering, and hotspots. The implications of our findings for mental health resource allocation and policy were discussed. Results: Between 2015 and 2023, mental health facilities documented a total of 13,793,884 visits. The study found anxiety, schizophrenia, and depression emerged as the top three illnesses for mental health visits, with an increase in patient attendance following the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak. Spatial analysis identified areas of significance for various disorders across different regions of Thailand. Positive correlations between certain disorder pairs were found in specific regions, suggesting shared risk factors or comorbidities. Conclusions: This study highlights spatial and temporal variations in individuals visiting services for different mental disorders in Thailand, shedding light on service gaps and socioeconomic issues. Addressing these disparities requires increased attention to mental health, the development of appropriate interventions, and overcoming barriers to accessibility. Freshwater lakes play a vital role in global hydrological and biogeochemical cycles, serving various functions and maintaining ecological balance. However, freshwater resources are more vulnerable to deterioration due to multiple stressors. Gaoyou Lake is one of the impounded lakes of the Eastern route of South-to-North Water Diversion Project in China, and as an important source of drinking water, the lake has been routinely monitored. Long-term monitoring of water quality in Gaoyou Lake showed that concentrations of nutrients and chlorophyll a as well as trophic state in the water column increased while water transparency decreased, indicating that the water quality has declined during the last 12 years. Specifically, there was a notable and statistically significant increase in chlorophyll a concentrations, averaging an annual rate of 9.9%. Despite a slight decline in trophic level index until 2014, subsequent years saw an upward trend, ranging from 50.7 to 56.4 and indicating a light eutrophic state. Spatially, the western area displayed higher nutrient and chlorophyll a concentrations. Changes in hydro-meteorological variables and nutrients from inflowing rivers were the main factors correlated with water quality in Gaoyou Lake. Thus, pollution source apportionment and management within Huaihe River basin should be considered to reduce the external loadings of nutrients in order to improve and sustain long-term water quality. Background: Malaria is one of the most devastating tropical diseases, resulting in loss of lives each year, especially in children under the age of 5 years. Malaria burden, related deaths and stall in the progress against malaria transmission is evident, particularly in countries that have moderate or high malaria transmission. Hence, mitigating malaria spread requires information on the distribution of vectors and the drivers of insecticide resistance (IR). However, owing to the impracticality in establishing the critical need for real-world information at every location, modelling provides an informed best guess for such information. Therefore, this review examines the various methodologies used to model spatial, temporal and spatio-temporal patterns of IR within populations of malaria vectors, incorporating pest-biology parameters, adopted ecological principles, and the associated modelling challenges. Methods: The review focused on the period ending March 2023 without imposing restrictions on the initial year of publication, and included articles sourced from PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus. It was also limited to publications that deal with modelling of IR distribution across spatial and temporal dimensions and excluded articles solely focusing on insecticide susceptibility tests or articles not published in English. After rigorous selection, 33 articles met the review's elibility criteria and were subjected to full-text screening. Results: Results show the popularity of Bayesian geostatistical approaches, and logistic and static models, with limited adoption of dynamic modelling approaches for spatial and temporal IR modelling. Furthermore, our review identifies the availability of surveillance data and scarcity of comprehensive information on the potential drivers of IR as major impediments to developing holistic models of IR evolution. Conclusions: The review notes that incorporating pest-biology parameters, and ecological principles into IR models, in tandem with fundamental ecological concepts, potentially offers crucial insights into the evolution of IR. The results extend our knowledge of IR models that provide potentially accurate results, which can be translated into policy recommendations to combat the challenge of IR in malaria control. The concept of time in physics and its connection to consciousness are becoming increasingly problematic. A missing ingredient to both could be retrocausation — the temporal inverse of everyday causation — in which the future influences the past. Apparent evidence for it is in the phenomenon of precognition. Thus far, psychology and physics have assiduously avoided incorporating precognition into their paradigms, even though experimental evidence for it is substantial. Among many noteworthy studies, the Graff–Cyrus experiment is explicated here as an outstanding example of the phenomenon. Rivers are biodiverse ecosystems that play an essential role in the processing of organic matter from headwaters to the lower reaches. The biodiversity within these spatially complex ecosystems is often subject to huge seasonal variation, particularly in temperate regions, for example seasonal peaks in emergence of aquatic insects or migration of fish through the river network. However, these ecosystems are also subject to strong anthropogenic pressures that affect not only the biodiversity within this system, but the functions this biodiversity provides to key ecosystem processes. Therefore, spatial and temporally dynamics must be considered to effectively assess and understand the biodiversity and functioning within an ecosystem. Here, we assessed ecosystem function at a high spatial and temporal resolution across a large river network, specifically focussing on standardised organic–matter decomposition. Our results show—even when correcting for temperature—significant effects of both season and water chemistry parameters on microbial decomposition. However, we found no effect of space (i.e., site location within the network) on ecosystem function, contrary to expectations. We also found no imprint of the microbial community richness assessed in the water column (α–diversity and Shannon Index) on the patterns of organic–matter decomposition, however, this may be due to our focus on potential colonising microbes rather than benthic communities. Our study highlights the need to include functional indicators for the assessment of ecosystems.

Researchers have shown that the emotions that athletes experience during sporting competition can be transferred between team members to create collective team emotional states. Nevertheless, collective emotions have not yet been investigated for sporting dyads. In this study, the emotional experiences of 68 doubles table tennis players (34 dyads) were examined at three time points: precompetition, in-competition, and postcompetition. It was found that the intensity of each emotional state differed as a function of match situation (positive/negative). Moreover, in-competition anxiety, dejection, and anger were shown to predict poorer subjective performance, and anxiety was shown to negatively impact future objective athlete performance. Most pertinently, within-dyad emotional aggregation was identified for athlete in-competition happiness and dejection and for postcompetition happiness, dejection, and anger. These findings represent the first quantitative evidence of emotional convergence in sport dyads and provide support for the social functional theory of emotion in sport. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose Technical differences may explain why elite hurdles specialists (EHS) and elite decathletes (ED) perform differently in the 110-metre hurdles. This study aims to compare the hurdle-unit kinematic parameters in EHS and ED. Methods A total of 20 male athletes were recruited, including 10 EHS (age: 20.9 ± 2.2 years, body mass: 76.9 ± 7.0 kg, height: 1.85 ± 0.05 m) and 10 ED (age: 20.8 ± 2.27 years, body mass: 87.7 ± 6.9 kg, height: 1.91 ± 0.03 m). Their three-dimensional movement was analysed for hurdling sequences over the whole hurdle-crossing phase and the entire cycle of the first stride after the hurdle, with spatial, temporal, and angular characteristics compared between groups. Results EHS were characterised by faster hurdle crossing (p = 0.002), shorter stride length over the hurdle (p = 0.002), and a shorter support phase in the first stride post-hurdle (p = 0.005). The centre of mass (CM) path of ED was higher than that of EHS (p = 0.003). EHS attack the hurdle with the lead leg’s knee significantly more flexed (p = 0.001) and after crossing the hurdle, regain contact with the ground with the lead leg more flexed at the hip level (p = 0.004), the trunk more inclined forward (p = 0.01), and a relatively smaller positioning angle of the supporting leg (p = 0.021). Conclusions EHS can be identified by their reduced impulse time, abbreviated take-off phase over the hurdle, and accelerated landing. Furthermore, EHS achieved optimum speed between obstacles faster, resulting in less speed loss and enhanced performance.

Abstract Temporal transcriptional variation is a major contributor to functional evolution and the developmental process. Parthenogenetic water fleas of the genus Daphnia (Cladocera) provide an ideal model to characterize gene expression patterns across distinct developmental stages. Herein, we report RNA-seq data for female Daphnia mitsukuri at three developmental stages: the embryo, juvenile (three timepoints) and adult. Comparisons of gene expression patterns among these three developmental stages and weighted gene co-expression network analysis based on expression data across developmental stages identified sets of genes underpinning each of the developmental stages of D. mitsukuri. Specifically, highly expressed genes (HEGs) at the embryonic developmental stage were associated with cell proliferation, ensuring the necessary foundation for subsequent development; HEGs at the juvenile stages were associated with chemosensory perception, visual perception and neurotransmission, allowing individuals to enhance detection of potential environmental risks; HEGs at the adult stage were associated with antioxidative defensive systems, enabling adults to mount an efficient response to perceived environmental risks. Additionally, we found a significant overlap between expanded gene families of Daphnia species and HEGs at the juvenile stages, and these genes were associated with visual perception and neurotransmission. Our work provides a resource of developmental transcriptomes, and comparative analyses that characterize gene expression dynamics throughout development of Daphnia.

Abstract Background An aneurysmal bone cyst is a locally destructive benign lesion affecting mostly the long bones. Aneurysmal bone cyst of the skull bones is a very rare phenomenon and the involvement of the sphenoid bone of the skull with extension into the orbit is even rarer. We present a case of 15-year-old adolescent with fibrous dysplasia of the sphenoid wing with secondary aneurysmal bone cyst. Case presentation A 15-year-old male presented to us with chief complaints of headache with swelling in the left temporal region of the face and proptosis of the left eye associated with decreased vision for the past 2 months. NCCT showed a large heterogeneous mass in the left temporal region extending into left orbit. Gadolinium-enhanced MRI showed a well-defined multiloculated osteo-expansile lesion in the left middle cranial fossa extending into the anterior cranial fossa consistent with the fibrous dysplasia of the sphenoid bone with associated aneurysmal bone cyst. Digital subtraction angiography brain to look for any feeders to the lesion was done followed by microsurgical gross total excision of the tumor. The histopathology report confirmed it to be fibrous dysplasia secondary to aneurysmal bone cyst. Conclusion Aneurysmal bone cyst is a rare entity, commonly affecting the long bones of the body. The involvement of sphenoid wing of skull is very rare occurrence. It can be primary or secondary to fibrous dysplasia, chondroblastoma, giant cell tumor, fibromyomas, etc. Fibrous dysplasia with secondary aneurysmal bone cyst should be kept in mind as one of the differential diagnoses while dealing with osteolytic bone lesions of skull.

Abstract Background The number of people living with dementia (PLWD) continues to increase, particularly those with severe symptomatology. Severe symptoms and greater ill-health result in more acute care need. Early healthcare interventions can prove beneficial. Healthcare use has not been analysed as a holistic set of interlinked events. This study explores different healthcare pathways among PLWD, social or spatial inequalities in healthcare pathways and subsequent mortality risk. Methods Group-based trajectory models (GBTM) were applied to electronic healthcare records. We generated clusters of PLWD with similar five-year, post-diagnosis trajectories in rates of primary and secondary healthcare use. Potential social and spatial variations in healthcare use clusters were examined. Cox Proportional Hazards used to explore variation in subsequent mortality risk between healthcare use clusters. Results Four healthcare use clusters were identified in both early- (n = 3732) and late-onset (n = 6224) dementia populations. Healthcare use variations were noted; consistent or diminishing healthcare use was associated with lower subsequent mortality risk. Increasing healthcare use was associated with increased mortality risk. Descriptive analyses indicated social and spatial variation in healthcare use cluster membership. Conclusion Healthcare pathways can help indicate changing need and variation in need, with differential patterns in initial healthcare use post-diagnosis, producing similar subsequent mortality risk. Care in dementia needs to be more accessible and appropriate, with care catered to specific and changing needs. Better continuity of care and greater awareness of dementia in primary can enhance prospects for PLWD. Research needs to further illuminate holistic care need for PLWD, including health and social care use, inequalities in care, health and outcomes.

ABSTRACTBackground and objective: The current study aimed to investigate the within-day symptom dynamics in PTSD patients, specifically focusing on symptoms that most predict changes in other symptoms. The study included a baseline diagnostic assessment, followed by an assessment using the experience sampling method (ESM) via a smartphone.Method: Participants answered questions related to their PTSD symptoms four times per day for 15 consecutive days (compliance rate 75%). The clinical sample consisted of 48 treatment-seeking individuals: 44 with PTSD as a primary diagnosis, and four patients with subsyndromal PTSD, all of whom had not yet begun trauma-focused treatment. The ESM assessment included the 20 items from the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5, five items from the International Trauma Questionnaire (ITQ) assessing disturbances in relationships and functional impairment, and two items from the Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale for DSM-5 assessing symptoms of depersonalization and derealization.Results: Temporal networks (prospective associations between symptoms) showed that changes in hypervigilance predicted changes in the greatest number of symptoms at the next time point. Furthermore, hypervigilance showed temporal connections with at least one additional symptom from each of the DSM-5 PTSD symptom clusters.Conclusions: Results show that the contemporaneous network (representing the relationship between given symptoms within the same assessment occasion) and the temporal network (representing prospective associations between symptoms) differ and that it is important to estimate both. Some findings from earlier research are replicated, but heterogeneity across studies remains. Future studies should include potential moderators.

Introduction: Lumpy skin disease is a viral disease that affects cattle belonging to genus Capripoxvirus (Poxviridae) and lead to significant economic losses. Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the distribution of lumpy skin disease (LSD) outbreaks and predict future patterns based on retrospective outbreak reports in Ethiopia. Methods: Data were collected through direct communication with regional laboratories and a hierarchical reporting system from the Peasant Associations to Ministry of Agriculture. Time-series data for the LSD outbreaks were analyzed using classical additive time-series decomposition and STL decomposition. Four models (ARIMA, SARIMA, ETS, STLF) were also used to forecast the number of LSD outbreaks that occurred each month for the years (2021-2025) after the models' accuracy test was performed. Additionally, the space-time permutation model (STP) were also used to study retrospective space-time cluster analysis of LSD outbreaks in Ethiopia. Results: This study examined the geographical and temporal distribution of LSD outbreaks in Ethiopia from 2008 to 2020, reporting a total of 3,256 LSD outbreaks, 14,754 LSD-positive cases, 7,758 deaths, and 289 slaughters. It also covered approximately 68% of Ethiopia's districts, with Oromia reporting the highest LSD outbreaks. In the LSD's temporal distribution, the highest peak was reported following the rainy season in September to December and its lowest peak in the dry months of April and May. Out of the four models tested for forecasting, the SARIMA (3, 0, 0) (2, 1, 0) [12] model performed well for the validation data, while the STLF+Random Walk had a robust prediction for the training data. Thus, the SARIMA and STLF+Random Walk models produced a more accurate forecast of LSD outbreaks between 2020 and 2025. From retrospective Space-Time Cluster Analysis of LSD, eight possible clusters were also identified, with five of them located in central part of Ethiopia. Conclusion: The study's time series and ST-cluster analysis of LSD outbreak data provide valuable insights into the spatial and temporal dynamics of the disease in Ethiopia. These insights can aid in the development of effective strategies to control and prevent the spread of the disease and holds great potential for improving efforts to combat LSD in the country. Comparisons of gene expression patterns among these three developmental stages and weighted gene co-expression network analysis based on expression data across developmental stages identified sets of genes underpinning each of the developmental stages of D. mitsukuri. Specifically, highly expressed genes (HEGs) at the embryonic developmental stage were associated with cell proliferation, ensuring the necessary foundation for subsequent development; HEGs at the juvenile stages were associated with chemosensory perception, visual perception and neurotransmission, allowing individuals to enhance detection of potential environmental risks; HEGs at the adult stage were associated with antioxidative defensive systems, enabling adults to mount an efficient response to perceived environmental risks. Additionally, we found a significant overlap between expanded gene families of Daphnia species and HEGs at the juvenile stages, and these genes were associated with visual perception and neurotransmission. Aims: In Canada, enteric diseases pose substantial health and economic burdens. The distribution of these diseases is uneven across both geography and time and understanding these patterns is therefore important for the prevention of future outbreaks. We evaluated temporal, spatial and space–time clustering of laboratory‐confirmed cases of Campylobacter spp. (n = 28,728), non‐typhoidal Salmonella spp. (n = 22,640), Shiga toxin‐producing Escherichia coli (STEC; n = 1340), Yersinia spp. (n = 1674) and Listeria monocytogenes (n = 471) infections, reported between 2010 and 2017 inclusive in Ontario, the most populous province in Canada (population ~ 13,500,000 in 2016). Methods and Results: For each enteric pathogen, we calculated the mean incidence rates (IRs) for Ontario's 35 public health unit (PHU) areas and visualized them using choropleth maps. We identified temporal, spatial and space–time high infection rate clusters using retrospective Poisson scan statistics. Campylobacter and Salmonella infections had the highest IRs, while Listeria infections had the lowest. Campylobacter, Salmonella, STEC and Listeria mostly clustered temporally in the spring/summer and sometimes extended into fall, while Yersinia showed a less clear seasonal pattern. The IR visualizations and spatial and space–time scan statistics showed geographic heterogeneity of infection rates with high infection rate clusters detected mainly in PHUs across the southwestern and central‐western regions of Ontario for Campylobacter, Salmonella and STEC infections, and mainly in PHUs located in the central‐eastern regions for Yersinia and Listeria. A high proportion of cases in some of the significant Salmonella, STEC and Listeria infection clusters were linked to disease outbreaks. Conclusions: Results from this study will inform heightened public health surveillance, and prevention and control programmes, in populations and regions of high infection rates. Further research is needed to determine the pathogen‐specific socioeconomic, environmental and agricultural risk factors that may be related to the temporal and spatial disease patterns we observed in our study.
