This article analyzes the Brazilian telenovela Orfãos da Terra in the light of the concept of diversity. The first telenovela focusing on contemporary immigration to Brazil, Orfãos da Terra was broadcast between April 27th and September 2, 2019, under Jair Bolsonaro’s far-right government (2019-2023). Written by Duca Rachid and Thelma Guedes and directed by Gustavo Fernández, it looks at the daily lives of people who have recently immigrated from various parts of the world (Syria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti, etc.) to the city of São Paulo and who live in a Catholic foster home. Using a semi-discursive analysis of several episodes, this study sheds light on how the TV show presents immigration and the resulting socio-political issues, particularly with respect to discourse and counter-discourse in Brazil.

Este artigo discute a caracterização de identidades de personagens atrelados a mediunidade em telenovelas espíritas da TV Globo. Tendo como corpus eventos narrativos de A Viagem, Alma Gêmea e Além do Tempo, discuto o contexto latino no qual desponta a telenovela brasileira e a importância da atenção às imagens em sua completude. Tomo a televisualidade conjugada ao estilo televisivo como aporte teórico-metodológico e, nas análises, identifico recursos da montagem, atuação dos atores e trilhas figurando as tensões identitárias abordadas nas tramas quanto a mediunidade: desde os enfrentamentos e teor destrutivo visto nas obras iniciais (A Viagem e Alma Gêmea) até a naturalização da mediunidade (Além do Tempo). Concluo pela presença de um percurso que parte do tom didático em torno do tema mediúnico, com abordagem inicialmente literal, até a chegada à figuração da mediunidade como fenômeno fluido e da cotidianidade.

Este ensaio aborda os escritos de Ana Plácido e Anna Emília Ribeiro e algumas representações populares dessas mulheres, que entraram para a história literária luso-brasileira menos como autoras que como adúlteras. Plácido foi amante e depois esposa de Camilo Castelo Branco. Ribeiro foi esposa de Euclides da Cunha até a morte dele num duelo com o amante dela. Examino o tratamento da escrita, do adultério e da mulher transgressora nas "Meditações" de Plácido e nos diários de Ribeiro, destacando também representações delas em telenovelas do fim do século XX e início do XXI. Proponho que, para as escritoras, o adultério representa uma salvação perante o casamento indesejado e uma insubordinação que liberta um poder criador. Esse poder é, porém, posteriormente reinscrito na ordem patriarcal através da prisão, marginalização e submissão das mulheres aos amantes tornados maridos. Nesse sentido, o interesse por Plácido e Ribeiro em produções recentes possibilita a ressignificação de sua imagem e abertura de espaços para suas vozes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

O artigo objetiva abordar como a crítica de telenovela se desenvolveu nos principais jornais impressos brasileiros, a partir da década de 1970, apresentando dois principais críticos: Helena da Silveira e Artur da Távola. A partir do mapeamento teórico acerca do que se entende por crítica no meio literário, abordamos a concepção atual de crítica de televisão e de telenovela e como, atualmente, ela tem sido realizada no país no âmbito digital. Apontamos que a transição da crítica entre o analógico (representado pelo jornalismo impresso) e o digital (com os sites de notícias) modificou a maneira como ela é efetuada. Concluímos que a crítica de telenovela contemporânea corresponde ao conjunto de análises sobre a trama, que é passível de alteração a cada episódio, e que, hoje, está em constante diálogo com seu público leitor/espectador.

This article mobilizes Jesus Martín Barbero's magnum opus, Communication, Culture, and Hegemony, towards a better understanding of the contemporary global success of Turkish television drama, known as dizi, in Latin America, the land of the once-mighty telenovela. Hilighting Martín-Barbero's centrality to my own intellectual project on the transnational connection and transcultural resonances between the Middle East and Latin America, I draw on preliminary fieldwork in Argentina and Mexico, where Turkish dizi have been hits, to revisit Martín-Barbero's pivotal conceptualization of mediaciones and accounts for forces of global media competition, aesthetic mimicry, and the fundamental problematic of South-to-South relations that got a new lease on life with the success of dizi in Latin America. Ultimately, I probe Martín-Barbero's "precious anachronism" to elaborate a notion of "coiled temporality" that emerges between different geocultural zones through the consumption of narrative television fiction. Nesta resenha, visitamos o livro A telenovela e o futuro da televisão brasileira (2023) em que a cineasta, escritora, diretora e produtora cinematográfica estadunidense, radicada no Brasil, Rosane Svartman aborda como a televisão brasileira e, em especial, a telenovela se transformam, resistem, negociam, sobrevivem e aderem à chegada das plataformas digitais de vídeo sob demanda e às mudanças que esse novo contexto de consumo impele aos espectadores.

Objetivou-se relatar a experiência do processo de produção de uma telenovela como ferramenta de educação alimentar e nutricional (EAN) para promover uma alimentação adequada e saudável de frequentadores de Restaurantes Populares. Esse processo passou por duas fases: 1) levantamento de dados sociodemográficos, nutricionais e psicossociais de frequentadores de Restaurantes Populares de uma capital brasileira, para traçar o perfil desses sujeitos, bem como as necessidades deles, de modo a guiar e orientar o enredo de uma história que se entrelaçasse às histórias dessas pessoas; e 2) criação do enredo/roteiro e produção da telenovela, enquanto recursos audiovisuais, carregados de signos disparadores de subjetividade. Defende-se a telenovela como uma ferramenta de EAN potente, pois a sua perspectiva estética, entrelaçada às histórias dos sujeitos, pode marcá-los e afetá-los, tanto pela intensidade das sensações e emoções que é capaz de produzir quanto pelos dispositivos pedagógicos analíticos e produtores de subjetivação. Parte-se do suposto de que a adoção de novos modos de pensamento e novas práticas requer um investimento que atue não só na dimensão intelectual ou cognitiva da aprendizagem, mas na dimensão afetiva.

The article explores the influence of toponymic images on the aesthetics of popular foreign and Russian television Series. The television series is a specific artistic model, the transformation and functioning of which is the result of significant television influence on the audience. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that, being a key genre of contemporary mass culture on one hand, and a multimedia text on the other, the series allows visual content to displace verbal content and constructs a certain reality in the minds of viewers. Within the framework of the geopoetic approach, the authors of the article examine the image of the city in television projects from different years, analyze the functions of urban signs and symbols, and identify various artistic techniques used to characterize characters and represent national-cultural spaces. Special attention is given to the role of the city as a setting and a tool for plot development in TV shows. The result of the study is the identification of the dynamics of the city image in television projects from the 1980s to the 2020s, which allows us to characterize television Series not only as a source of entertainment, but also as a social and national project that claims one of the dominant positions in contemporary culture.

This article is an analysis of the French translation of the titles of Hispanic American television series from Spanish as the source language. More specifically, this study underpins an analysis of the linguistic and functional disparities between the original titles and their translated versions. The basic corpus is made up of twelve series titles grouped according to the three main areas of production on the American continent. They are some series produced by Telemundo in the United States, Televisa in Mexico and Caracol in Colombia: Tierra de Reyes, Una maid en Manhattan, Lo que la vida me robó, Vino el amor, La bella Ceci y el imprudente y Sinú, rio de pasiones. The translated versions of these titles are as follows: Terre de passions, Amour à Manhattan, Les choix de l'amour, L'ivresse de l'amour, Un palace pour deux and La rivière de la passion. The fundamental problem lies in the treatment received by the titles during the process of translation into French and the result. Thanks to a comparative approach, we analyse the titles from a multidisciplinary perspective based on the premises of cultural semiotics and Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), and get to a number of conclusions. The main conclusion is that audiovisual translation, as far as titles are concerned, is essentially intended to conquer a large audience. Consequently, this translation generally goes beyond the level of linguistic and contextual equivalence between the source and target texts to take on the aspect of a much more creative translation.

O presente artigo pretende analisar duas personagens de telenovelas brasileiras, a saber, Sinhôzinho Malta de Roque Santeiro (1985) e Bruno Berdinazzi Mezenga de O rei do gado (1996). A comparação que se quer fazer objetiva demonstrar como as opções estéticas dão sentidos distintos as duas tramas. Para isso utilizaremos frames e diálogos e interrelacionaremos as obras com os seus contextos de produção. A proposta deste artigo surge como reflexão das produções teledramatúrgicas no Brasil.

For several decades, Brazil's Grupo Globo, which controls radio, TV, and newspaper, served as the hegemonic voice controlling the audio, visual, and narrative dimensions of social phenomena that formed and informed social, political, and cultural attitudes among Brazilians. Of all their divisions, none has been more influential than the TV Globo network. Lately, with the popularization of free access to digital media, such as those offered by YouTube, TV Globo's viewership has substantially declined. This paper discusses the concept of controlling images to analyze examples of TV Globo's constructed visual image of the hypersexualized Afro-Brazilian female body in the network's soap operas. It also analyzes cases of TV Globo's constructed narrative over another subaltern Brazilian group: the LGBTQIA+ community. Recently, Afro-Brazilian and Queer-centric YouTube channels have attracted subscribers by emphasizing content centered on negritude, gender politics, and place of speech while deconstructing and de-normalizing Eurocentric and patriarchal controlling images. Against examples of TV Globo's normative discourse of the past decades, the YouTube channels discussed in this paper represent alternative mediums for agency, visibility, and unbiased representations of gender and racial identities in Brazil. Latinas continue to be disproportionately affected by HIV in the United States. Effective interventions to address HIV-related disparities among Latinas are available; however, they have not achieved widespread dissemination due to implementation challenges for real-world settings. A culturally tailored intervention that increases access to HIV prevention is urgently needed. The objective of this study was to develop a culturally tailored telenovela (i.e., a soap opera) to promote HIV prevention behaviors (condom use; HIV testing; and pre-exposure prophylaxis awareness, access, and use) among Latinas. The study was conducted in community organizations throughout South Florida. A total of 44 Spanish-speaking Latinas, 18–35 years old, and sexually active with a man in the past 6 months participated in the study. The final product was an HIV prevention telenovela that incorporated Latinas' ideas and feedback and was produced as four 10-minute filmed episodes. The objective was to report the experience of the production process of a soap opera, as a tool for nutrition education (NE), to promote adequate and healthy eating soup kitchen frequenters. This process went through two phases: 1) collection of sociodemographic, nutritional and psychosocial data of soup kitchen frequenters in a Brazilian capital, to trace the profile of this subjects as well as their needs, in order to guide and orientate the plot of a story that intertwined with their own stories; and 2) creation of the plot/script and the production of the soap opera, as an audiovisual resource, loaded with signs that trigger subjectivity. The soap opera is defended as a powerful NE tool, since its aesthetic perspective intertwined with the stories of these people can mark and affect them, both by the intensity of the sensations and emotions it is capable of producing, as well as by its analytical pedagogical devices and subjectivities producing devices. It is assumed that the adoption of new ways of thinking and new practices requires an investment that acts not only in the intellectual or cognitive dimension of learning, but in its affective dimension. The article seeks to understand the role played by memes -- viral digital content shared within online communities (SHIFMAN, 2014; SARMENTO; CHAGAS, 2020) -- in the circulation of the telenovela Pantanal, a remake shown by Rede Globo between March and September 2022. How as a hypothesis, we discuss the role of memes in the cultural circuit (JOHNSON, 2007; ESCOSTEGUY, 2007) of the television narrative as linked to the updating of the role of the Brazilian telenovela as a space for discussing topics of public interest in contemporary times. Through thematic mapping of memes gathered by the page @remakepantanal on Instagram, the research observes a high incidence of publications on the following themes: access to education, homophobia and women's rights. Based on the reflections presented, the work eventually discusses the role of memes as forms of mediation of telenovela reception based on ritualities and socialities (MARTÍN-BARBERO, 2009) typical of digital social networks. Abstract Background Adolescents in Mexico experience high pregnancy and birth rates. A collaboration with Grupo Televisa led to the development of an entertainment-education telenovela intervention, Overcome the Fear (OTF), which aired in 2020 to a national audience and addressed adolescent sexual and reproductive health (SRH) topics. This study details the development and evaluation of OTF’s impact on adolescent contraceptive practices and parent-adolescent SRH communication in Mexico. Methods We conducted cross-sectional survey interviews (street-intercept and telephone) with 12–19-year-olds (n = 1640) and parents of adolescent children (n = 820) post-broadcast across Mexico’s five most-populated metropolitan zones. Quotas were implemented for gender, zone, and OTF viewership (viewer vs. non-viewer). Bivariate statistics and multivariable binary logistic regression models assessed the relationship between OTF viewership (including parent-adolescent co-viewing) and adolescent contraceptive practices and parent-adolescent SRH communication. Adolescent and parent data are not dyadic and were analyzed separately. Results Nearly half of adolescents (47.9%) and parents (47.7%) were viewers. This article analyzes the space-time constructions of the telenovela Pantanal with the aim of bringing to light the power tensions underlying the discourse, in interface with the Brazilian socio-historical reality. To this end, Bakhtin's concept of chronotope is used together with the concept of territorialities. The fi rst allows investigating the space-time in the narrative and audiovisual language, in the aesthetic and ethical scope, while the notion of territory/territoriality brings concreteness to the extradiegetic relationship raised by fi ction, mainly because it deals with the representation of a real territory. The adopted decolonial perspective seeks to confront the colonial discursive hegemony that refers to the domination of natural spaces and native peoples by white, patriarchal and capitalist culture. Este artigo discute os sentidos de divindade em três telenovelas espíritas da TV Globo: A viagem, Alma gêmea e Além do tempo. Após apontar a relevância da telenovela no continente e propor uma definição para o subgênero telenovela espírita, tomo três eventos narrativos de cada uma das tramas como objeto de estudo, selecionando situações em que a temática Deus ancora interações entre personagens. Para a análise, adoto o método da visualidade combinado ao estilo televisivo, denominado televisualidade, de maneira que os aspectos estilísticos são estudados na relação com elementos socioculturais. A comparação entre os eventos permite notar uma evocação do divino em dualismos que posicionam personagens em lados antagônicos, protagonizando encenações melodramáticas entre crentes e não crentes. Por fim, Deus é apresentado nessas telenovelas espíritas como agente mobilizador e divisor de opiniões, seja em termos narrativos, estilísticos e socioculturais.

En este artículo identificamos las estrategias emprendidas por los servicios locales de streaming como un esfuerzo por adaptarse, entrar y permanecer en el contexto altamente competitivo del nuevo ecosistema televisivo. Para ello, nos enfocamos en analizar las posibles innovaciones narrativas y cuestiones de la serialidad de la telenovela Todas las flores (2022), la primera telenovela con el guion completamente original para la plataforma brasileña Globoplay. Si bien la telenovela mantiene preceptos del diseño narrativo clásico y del melodrama, también hallamos aceleración en el ritmo de los sucesos narrativos con la anticipación del incidente incitador, convergencia de tramas en torno a la trama central y entrelazamiento interdependiente de arcos semanales y arcos quincenales que elevan e intensifican el tono dramático, el suspenso y la complejidad de la narración.

In Brazil, the telenovela has established itself as one of the most important products of television. Thus, it addresses the differences between social groups and disputes between them. The visibility for these groups that is built from this dynamic becomes a chance to promote their representation, when they see themselves as part of the nation. This study aims to understand the representation of Black women in the scenario of contemporary Brazilian telenovelas, focusing on Amor de Mãe (2019-2021). The research consisted of analyzing the protagonists of the first part of this narrative, Camila (Jéssica Ellen) and Vitória (Taís Araújo), based on the analytical category of controlling images (Collins, 2019), which unravels the logic that tries to justify the oppression experienced by these women. The results show that these images can be identified isolated and/or combined in the construction of these characters. At times, the telenovela plot questions these images; at others, it reinforces them.

A partir del análisis narrativo, televisual y hermenéutico de tres exitosas telenovelas nocturnas chilenas del subgénero policial: Alguien te mira (2007), ¿Dónde está Elisa? (2009) y El laberinto de Alicia (2011) nos preguntamos por las representaciones de género que nos ofrecen estos relatos. Los resultados nos indican que estas telenovelas son un producto híbrido que combina el melodrama clásico con el relato policial. A diferencia de las producciones diurnas y vespertinas, los protagonistas aquí son de la clase alta, el relato es ágil y dinámico, y juega con el secreto y el suspenso. Sin embargo, en una lectura de género podemos ver que, aunque las mujeres son presentadas inicialmente como autónomas, independientes y empoderadas, finalmente terminan cumpliendo un rol clásico: el de madres.

O artigo analisa a presença da mulher negra nas telenovelas da Rede Globo, com foco em “Lado a lado” (2012-2013), tendo em vista a presença de personagens negras com protagonismo. Nossa base teórica encontra um diálogo alicerçado no pensamento feminista negro a partir das reflexões de Patricia Hill Collins e Lélia Gonzalez. Buscamos empreender uma análise de conteúdo evidenciando as categorias defendidas por tais autoras. O processo metodológico utiliza o conceito desenvolvido por Diane Rose em “análise da imagem em movimento”, que considera a análise específica dos fenômenos televisivos. Nosso tensionamento central é compreender como essas representações atuam para quebrar noções estereotipadas da população negra em geral e, em específico, da mulher negra, ou manter conceitos racistas e pré-determinados.

O reaproveitamento de conteúdos nas mídias é constantemente usado e, com frequência, somos reapresentados à reprises e remakes; Holdsworth (2011) define como safe return, a garantia do retorno seguro. Na televisão brasileira o Grupo Globo realiza tal ação desde 1980, no Vale a Pena Ver de Novo. Acreditamos que a emissora forma o repertório audiovisual do público da TV aberta e, além de ativar a memória dos espectadores, transfere essa estratégia para o Globoplay. Examinamos o retorno das novelas clássicas no streaming por meio das estratégias de transmidiação. Focamos na divulgação dos dez primeiros relançamentos nas principais redes sociais digitais.

This article explores the Turkish telenovela phenomenon that has swept Latin America since 2014 and, more recently, the Hispanic media market in the US. Drawing on media scholar Marwan Kraidy's concept of hybridity, the article examines the processes and conditions that created fertile ground for the enthusiastic reception of dizis , the name by which these series are known in Turkey. The article briefly examines the cross-pollination that is taking place between the Turkish dizi , an already hybrid genre, and the Latin American telenovela. It suggests that these cross-cultural exchanges are fueling a renewal of the Latin American telenovela after years of decline. The article's analysis of the internationally successful melodrama ¿Qué culpa tiene Fatmagul? provides an in-depth example for the discussion. Telenovelas have become an attractive form of entertainment for many Ghanaians largely because of the use of local Ghanaian languages as voiceovers during telecast. The question that arises is - Does the telecast of telenovelas in a local language play any role in the promotion of Ghanaian languages? Using focus group discussions and in-depth interviews, we explored the role of Telenovelas with voice-overs in the promotion of Ghanaian languages among residents of some communities in Accra, Ghana; specifically, Lapaz, Osu and Gbawe Mallam communities, University students and market women. Findings show that due to low English literacy levels, voice-over telenovelas were preferred among residents in Lapaz community and the market women. A privately-owned television station, Max TV, emerged as the station with a wider audience due to its innovative broadcasting strategy of voice-over Telenovelas using the Ghanaian (Akan) language. Overall, the telenovelas appear to be promoting the Akan language by exposing viewers to lexical knowledge, facilitating the acquisition of new vocabulary items, and shaping children's learning of Akan. Resenha do Livro: PORTO, César Henrique de Queiroz. A Representação dos árabes e muçulmanos na televisão brasileira. 1. ed. Curitiba: Appris, 2020.

Rethinking the practice of historiography through certain productions, whether on the big or small screen, has become a topic of common interest in the academic field. In this sense, this article aims to study a particular period of Mexican history, from the mid-18th century to the first decades of the 20th century, through a specific television genre: the telenovela, a product that, incidentally, has gradually become one of the most consumed audiovisual products in Latin America.

Este estudo postula uma releitura, ressignificação e adequação de algumas das categorias básicas de análise de ficção, construtoras da produção ficcional televisiva, como: ficção/ realidade, polifonia/ dialogia, autonomia/ independência, construção de personagens, foco narrativo/ autor implícito, convergência de sujeitos produtores, memória discursiva, interdiscursividade. Um dos objetivos é, a partir delas, desvelar as modificações maiores ou menores das narrativas ficcionais no trânsito das plataformas e verificar o papel dos receptores coprodutores, os quais, se não passaram a existir a partir da rede, têm nela um forte aliado para a disseminação rápida das contaminações de sua coprodução e possível extensão ou diminuição do peso das categorias. Nessa primeira etapa procuramos construir/reconstruir categorias de análise.

En la primera década del siglo XXI aumentan en las telenovelas brasileñas las grabaciones en el extranjero, difundiendo nuevos modos de vida, promocionando expectativas de consumo. En Brasil, la estabilidad económica resulta en la ampliación del acceso a bienes materiales. Hago una reflexión sobre estos acontecimientos por la vía de la promoción de los destinos turísticos, en confluencia con las prácticas de consumo y con interés especial en la intersección consumomedios de comunicación. Analizo las grabaciones en el extranjero en las telenovelas brasileñas de 2000 a 2011. Estas ambientaciones revelan diferentes culturas, ampliando el universo simbólico y material del receptor.

El eco de la transnacionalización de la ficción televisiva latinoamericana se ha hecho escuchar en los países de Europa del Este y especialmente en Rumania, donde su modelo se ha adaptado a las realidades locales a través de producciones nacionales. El mundo marginado de la etnia gitana ha servido de inspiración para la telenovela rumana Corazón gitano. A través del personaje principal que es gitano y médico, esta narrativa inspirada de la vida real rompe con los estereotipos negativos preconstruidos por la sociedad, lo que lo transforma en un modelo identitario y de integración de la etnia gitana.

La centralidad de la telenovela en la escena mediática brasileña pone en evidencia su destacado papel en el entretenimiento y ocio cotidianos, con la formación de gustos y la consolidación de prácticas de consumo. Este trabajo examina la inserción de este universo simbólico en las lógicas y dinámicas de la cibercultura. Tomando como objeto una telenovela del horario de máxima audiencia de la principal emisora del país, se investiga el juego comunicacional que se establece entre los capítulos exhibidos en la televisión y el contenido disponible en el portal Globo.com. Interesa discutir la formación de nuevos patrones de recepción y consumo de productos audiovisuales en el contexto de las narrativas transmediáticas.

Este artículo tiene como objetivo proporcionar una taxonomía sobre la telenovela turca emitida en el canal temático español Nova, con el fin de determinar nuevas estrategias y narrativas en tendencia. Para ello, se combina una metodología cualitativa con el análisis del discurso que ofrece resultados sobre las diferencias y similitudes entre la telenovela turca y latinoamericana y permite detectar tendencias que están contribuyendo al posicionamiento del producto narrativo en cuestión.

Este ensayo aborda los conceptos de extraposición, autoría y géneros discursivos en el estudio de las telenovelas brasileñas. El melodrama Cordel encantado [Cuento encantado], producido y exhibido en el 2011 por la Rede Globo de Televisão, en Brasil, es el objeto empírico de análisis. A su vez, la lectura bajtiniana direcciona la discusión conceptual entre los principios de exceso de visión, autor-creador, autor-persona y géneros discursivos secundarios (todos ellos estudiados dentro del ámbito de la ficción televisiva). Como consideración final, es posible afirmar que el dialogismo de Mijaíl Bajtín (cuando está específicamente reubicado dentro de los medios masivos) revela cómo las ideas de autoría y discurso se resignifican en el complejo tejido melodramático de la telenovela brasileña.

Lack of knowledge and negative attitudes towards mental health is linked to low utilization of services among Latinxs. Entertainment-education videos have been effective at increasing literacy and reducing stigma across different health domains but Latinxs have not been a focus of research. We developed an E-E video aimed at reducing stigma and increasing mental health literacy. Focus groups (N = 28) and expert consultants (N = 2) were used to aid in the development of the video. After the video was developed, we conducted a randomized control trial (RCT) in which Latina participants (N = 111) were assigned to view the video or receive an informational brochure. Results indicated that participants in the video intervention condition experienced statistically significant increases in mental health literacy as compared to the participants in the flyer condition and that both the video and the flyer contributed to shifts in stigma. TV Azteca is one of the biggest multimedia conglomerations in Mexico. From its beginnings in 1993, TV Azteca knew it had to offer something different to audiences so they had a reason to tune in to its telenovelas. Things have changed significantly as TV Azteca announced in the middle of 2016 that it would no longer produce telenovelas. However, TV Azteca still has a vested interest in TV production via its super series. This research focuses on the political economy of production and development of telenovelas and super series, the effect of delineating quality television and the regendering of melodramatic narratives and heroines. This article intends to problematize the racial issue of the housemaid character in Brazilian telenovelas. For this, we consider two plots aired on Globo, Avenida Brasil and A Regra do Jogo, both by author João Emanuel Carneiro. Four characters were analyzed, two black and two white, with the aim of contrasting their differences and identifying the reflexes of structural racism in their constructions. The methodology used, French semiotics, proved to be fruitful in allowing the observation of racist discourse in the narrative path and in the basic semantic oppositions of the characters. Los medios de comunicación han favorecido la construcción de estereotipos de género, de tal forma que las personas son capaces de adoptarlos por su representación en los medios y se instauran en el imaginario colectivo como correctos y son transmitidos, legitimados y reproducidos en entornos personales, familiares y sociales. Las personas nacen en una sociedad estereotipada. Los niños encuentran estereotipos en sus juguetes; los adolescentes, con la ropa y los adultos, con sus oficios. Y todo esto visualizado en contenidos comunicacionales, como los programas de televisión, la publicidad, los libros, etc. El objetivo de esta investigación fue identificar los estereotipos femeninos representados en la telenovela ecuatoriana “Sharon La Hechicera”, determinando si estos han sido apropiados por su audiencia. El 52% de las personas que visualizaron la telenovela fueron de Santo Domingo de los Colorados; el 30%, fueron de Guayaquil y el 18%, fueron de Quito. Entre los estereotipos que mayormente asimilan los ecuatorianos se encuentra que “las mujeres deben soportar infidelidades y maltratos de sus esposos, para mantener su matrimonio” y “las mujeres que usan prendas cortas son más fáciles y accesibles”. Y finalmente, con las entrevistas se pudo determinar que sí existe una reproducción de comportamientos, influenciados por la visualización de la telenovela. Como principal conclusión, los estereotipos femeninos identificados en la telenovela tienen relación con el aspecto físico, las prendas de vestir principalmente, las apariencias y la posición económica. No todas las mujeres entrevistadas conocen el significado de un estereotipo, pero sí son capaces de identificarlos, reproducirlos y asimilarlos en su construcción social.

[es] Este artículo se propone a analizar escenas de parto exhibidas en telenovelas brasileras a lo largo de cuatro décadas, criteriosamente seleccionadas, con el objetivo de identificar las relaciones de género en ellas inscriptas, explicitas o veladas. Para eso, optamos por dos métodos complementarios, el Análisis de Contenido y el Análisis de la Imagen en Movimiento. Para la discusión, hemos considerado especialmente autores de los Estudios de Género y del campo de la Comunicación Social centrados en la teledramaturgia, así como aquellos que se dedican al objeto de esta investigación, el parto como evento social y su representación ficcional. Como resultado, identificamos tres ejes centrales que, al convergieren, encarcelan la parturiente y la convierte en un cuerpo biológicamente necesario y destituido de su derecho/poder de dar a luz. La falta de problematización sobre las desigualdades de género que circundan el parto en la ficción, de forma sintomática, contribuye para su naturalización. [en] This article proposes to analyze scenes of childbirth broadcasted by Brazilian soap operas broadcasted along four decades, carefully selected, aiming to identif y the gender relations there inscribed, explicit or vailed. Therefore, we have opted by two complementar y methods, the Content Analysis and the Analysis of Moving Images. For the discussion, we have considered especially authors belonged to the fields of Gender Studies and Social Communication centered on tele-dramaturgy, as well as the ones who study the childbirth as a social event and its fictional representation.As a result, we have identified three central axes, when converged, imprison the parturient and convert her into a biologically needed body, without her right/power to give birth. The lack of problematization regarding gender inequality in fictional childbirth, symptomatically, contributes for its naturalization.

Considerando que a telenovela permanece como uma das formas culturais de maior interesse por parte do público em nosso país, buscamos explicitar algumas das principais estratégias de apresentação desse tipo de produto na grade de programação. Para tanto, realizamos um levantamento histórico das novelas produzidas e transmitidas pela Rede Globo, emissora brasileira que mais investiu em dramaturgia e cujas obras possuem reconhecida qualidade de produção tanto no país como no exterior. A investigação considerou o período que vai de 1965 a 2015, utilizando como referência os títulos disponíveis no site Memória Globo. Vinhetas de abertura foram analisadas à luz da semiótica francesa, e os resultados apontaram para o reconhecimento de quatro recursos recorrentemente explorados: projeções de pessoa, tempo, espaço e procedimentos de tematização – todos articulados de forma a promover no público um sentido de identificação.

Este artigo tem como interesse analisar as estratégias discursivas empregadas pela Rede Globo em sua ficção seriada televisiva para abordar transgeneridade e direitos a partir da aprovação de leis favoráveis a esse grupo social em decisões do Supremo Tribunal Federal. O STF garantiu, em 2018, às pessoas transgêneras ter sua identidade de gênero e seu nome alterados no registro civil sem precisar de cirurgia e, em 2019, criminalizou a LGBTfobia. Dessa forma, foram acompanhadas, em diários de observação, cenas de quatro produções (Malhação, A Dona do Pedaço, Bom Sucesso e Segunda Chamada) que tiveram personagens trans desde a implementação das leis. Por fim, compreende-se que, com todas as personagens, houve uma abordagem ligada a direitos mesmo sem se referir diretamente às leis, contribuindo para novas narrativas sobre transgeneridade na televisão.

Este artigo reflete sobre a representação que a telenovela A força do querer, da Rede Globo, construiu sobre a transexualidade, por meio da/do personagem Ivana/Ivan. A análise do trabalho se utiliza do instrumento analítico do Circuito da Cultura, aporte teórico-metodológico dos Estudos Culturais, que compreende cinco processos distintos – representação, identidade, produção, consumo e regulação – como responsáveis por produzir significados na sociedade. São processos diferenciados que se articulam na construção de sentidos. Neste artigo, apresenta-se o conteúdo trabalhado no eixo Representação, com o apoio teórico dos estudos queer de Judith Butler. O estudo conclui que a telenovela teve a intenção de promover um discurso a favor da diversidade, desmistificando concepções essencialistas e apontando para novas possibilidades de identidades generificadas, trazidas à tona a partir da experiência da transexualidade. Ainda assim, a telenovela construiu um sujeito transexual de acordo com os parâmetros do discurso médico e, dessa forma, sua representação estabelece uma verdade sobre a transexualidade, que confina a identidade transexual aos padrões rígidos do que é ser transexual, deixando de lado as diversidades e as pluralidades que existem em cada experiência.

Este trabalho, inicialmente apresentado em junho de 2020 no Congresso Virtual da Associação Brasileira de Pesquisadores em Cibercultura - ABCiber, foi revisto, atualizado e ampliado desde então, com a intenção de acompanhar a retificação dos dados produzidos, de modo acelerado, pelo campo. Temos como objetivo observar as alterações na produção, circulação e audiência da ficção televisiva brasileira, durante um ano — de março de 2020 a março de 2021 —, considerando a emergência da pandemia de Covid-19 e o processo de distanciamento social no Brasil, ainda que o mesmo tenha se apresentado em diferentes momentos e intensidades nas diversas regiões do país. Para isso foi realizado um levantamento de dados tanto em instituições de pesquisa como em artigos jornalísticos visando observar as mudanças comportamentais da sociedade em decorrência da pandemia e também os ajustes necessários feitos pela indústria cultural nacional diante das alterações exigidas pela necessidade de segurança sanitária. Depois, os dados levantados foram associados a uma revisão de literatura, tendo como base o pensamento complexo de Morin (2010). A coleta de dados, bem como a análise dos mesmos foram concentrados nas produções da Globo e em suas estratégias de programação no período.

A novela “Amor de mãe” exibida pela Rede Globo de Televisão usa como mote de divulgação a frase “tudo é incerto, menos o amor de mãe” em vista de ter três personagens centrais que são mães. A reprodução da ideologia do instinto do amor materno pelos meios de comunicação bem como pela supracitada novela é uma questão a ser refletida na sociedade brasileira posto que meios de comunicação exercem papel fundamental na formação de subjetividades e de acesso à informação. Além disso, esse ideal materno é histórico e deita raízes na consolidação do capitalismo no século XIX, momento em que os ideais burgueses se cristalizam na sociedade ocidental. A partir de Elisabeth Badinter e de autores vinculados ao materialismo histórico como Alysson Mascaro e Joachim Hirsch esse artigo explana sobre o vínculo necessário entre formação do Estado, a construção sexista do mito do amor materno e sua reprodução.

This paper intends to discuss the relationship between media competence and fan culture, focusing on content creation shared on Twitter by fans of the Limantha ship, from the Brazilian telenovela Young Hearts (Malhação: Viva a Diferença). In order to reflect on how telenovela social issues were explored in the content shared on Twitter, we adopted Ferrés and Piscitelli’s concept of media competence. We concluded that, in addition to deepening themes dealt within the plot, fans expanded and resignified discussions based on correlations with personal reports. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this article, we analyze the social representations produced by the discourses of three current Chilean telenovelas and their contribution to the citizenship education of young people. From a qualitative and narratological perspective, the analyzed productions allow these audiences to self-identify with characters, problematize citizen issues based on the fictitious situations presented by these stories, use explanatory categories to solve the dilemma at hand, and critically analyze the stories, which are fundamental components of citizen education.
